Absolutely useless
We have been NIB customers for not even a week and the service has already been horrific! I would not recommend NIB to anyone. Get with the picture, it's 2022 my partner does not have to give me authority to speak with you about our policy.

Horrific claims process
Had a hospital admission claim declined because I didn’t think I actually broke my foot. They declined it without asking any further information. Could not get through to anyone to answer and say why. Eventually told someone would call me back in 24hrs. 72hrs I received an email with no clarity. Had to lodge a complaint with the Health Insurance Ombudsman. The approved the claim within 2hrs of the complaint lodgement.

Greed
NIB Boss wants to scrap Medicare only because he wants more people to join NIB. I say scrap all Greedy Private Health Insurers and make Medicare cover everything. Goodbye NIB.

Dodgy policies
Never ever again I will get any insurance with this company.
They understimate their clients!
I have bought an international student health cover (oshc) and for some reason my visa was refused then at the moment of applying for a refund they have made all super difficult also taking me as an ignorant, they tried to convince me that I still need the insurance but I know is not true, they have done all possible to not to refund, telling me fake legal requirements and things like that.

$500 Excess.
My doctor recently advised me to have a procedure carried out.
As this was a day procedure I was disappointed to find I have to pay a $500 excess.
As this was unexpected I had no time to save the $500.
Therefore I find myself on the public waiting list and feeling it pointless having private health insurance.
I emailed nib to air my problem but received no reply. That adds to the disappointment.

First Experience Worst Experience
I purchased the policy for my father on june 21st with mail id [email protected], it has been almost a month but the policy hasn't even started, they just mail and run away for 7 days then ask a question then run away for 7 days, i am just chasing them, not even sure that my policy has even been started . I am sure that i have made a wrong decision already to purchase the policy from NIB, trusting there words from there webstie .
Not a happy Customer :( .

Buyer Beware.
I've been with NIB for 6+ Years as a single independent, and the 21 Years before that 'covered' under one of their family plans. At no point during my sign-up was it explained (or product disclosure material received then, or now that specifies) that core extras including general, and major dental excludes items such as orthodontic work as a separate category under other plans. d to the kiosk consultant that I was saving for 'wisdom teeth this year, braces the next' - would have been nice to have been told then that my policy would not even pay for that small amount, but hey I didn't ask so why should they tell!... fast forward to now, a year later - having found this out, I am given the stock-standard 'we can't waive the waiting period because of the insurance act' but offered me 'loyalty for 6 Years' after the 12 months which would increase my monthly payment from $175 > $230 in the meantime, and still only cover $1400 on $8000... a return that does not even come close to the yearly cost. These sort of things are never about returns, but affordability, and clarity are basic requirements. 'Other insurers will be the same' is never an appropriate excuse for any issue, although it has convinced me to stick with Medicare until I am 31. Buyer beware, question all details - as they won't provide it.2 comments

Let's be fair
I've been a member for quite a few years and have never had an issue with NiB.
I recently needed clarification on the Govt initiated changes and the Call Centre couldn't be more helpful (as frustrating as my enquiry must have been). They really went over and above.
My 4 stars rating is the result of reading the "exclusions" with their Travel Insurance. It appears that nearly everything is excluded! If I'm drinking on holidays, any medical issue is excluded. If I'm walking around the block, in sports shoes, I better have an "optional" package. This troubles me as I want to be able to enjoy myself and know I'm covered. I also want to be loyal to NIB, as every other experience I've had, has been so positive.

Loyalty means nothing
I have been a member for nearly 30 years and have slowly seen the level of service reduce. Recently i asked what NIB would do for long term members. The replied use the rewards programme. I asked if they would give me a month free as the were giving new members one month free. They said no make use of the rewards programme. I replied that i have to spend to get a so called benefit.
So loyalty means nothing to them now. Extremely disappointed in their customer service now. Will be looking for a better fund.

s a rewards scheme were they have to spend money to save money. Not much of an incentive as nearly every company now have similiar programmes. . I wish i could put zero star
The worst insurance provider i ever had. I had to rang them for 8 times and my money still not back. Rang again today and the guy who pick up the calls said they dont know when i will be able to claim my refund and its been 2 months after i submitted my receipt.

I would never choose NIB again and I’m sorry we did. Misguided and not supported with excess hospital coverage. Poor poor service and I have been with them for 6 years and no support for loyal customers.

Rang to query and got a very rude response!
Been with nib over 35 years now. Found I can hardly claim anything the last 4 years or so. Recently told I need cataract surgery. Nib will pay the surgeon and the anaethetist but not for the theatre? As they won't operate on your lounge I couldn't have the surgery. Phoned nib to discuss changing cover. The oh so rude woman told me I didn't deserve the benefits as I was obviously just getting out of paying the govt health fee! But I've been with nib for many years before Medicare even came in! So rude. Gone to westfund..cheaper and more I can claim. Bad service nib.

Misleading information.
I have top corporate gold cover hospital and extras with NIB ( $525 p/m for two 40+ adults). Recently I had to have shoulder surgery and contacted NIB to check my coverage, they reviewed it all and said I was fully covered including the item numbers from the anaesthetist. All I would pay was the excess, which was $500. My anaesthetist bill was $1140, of which Medicare paid $225. I forwarded on the bill to NIB and got back a tiny $75. Leaving me about $840 out of pocket, not including the excess.

Trying to attract new customers but
I have been with NIB (hospital cover)for over 6 years and wanted to add an extras cover....Comparing the new policies in their website, I fond that I could take a Hospital + extras cover for almost the same monthly premium I have been paying so far. Also they promise 200 $ visa gift card and waiving off 2
& 6 month wait periods for new customers.
today I asked the NIB person who took my call, if I could cancel my existing hospital; only policy and re-join with a Hospital & extras package to get the promotional offer. only to be told that I couldn't since I am an existing customer...they were not happy to negotiate.....and I joined another health fund one hour later..!

Regrettably wasted a lot of money with NIB for 20years! During a financial shortage they suggested a 1month hold they could back date two weeks, it would mean that I would only be without insurance for 2weeks.i rarely claimed so I felt confident it would be ok. y I wasn’t covered when I explained they told me to call back nib and try again as they had met others in the same situation and their insurances still paid. I tried 2more times with no luck. Not happy
I am really disappointed with NIB since changes in the past year, I am finding it difficult contacting them via the phone (having to leave a message with my details, no call back) or calling them back (message saying the mailbox is full), poor customer service. I have been a customer since 2005 and am seriously considering changing funds.

Waste of Money
We changed to NIB in 2017 and were assured that we had the same cover as our previous provider. I am booked in for surgery on Monday only to find out that this is not the case. They cover nothing!!! My surgery will $6600! I am supposed to be comforted by the fact that they understand and they will cover me if I upgrade to the cover they told me I had in the first place and wait 12 MONTHS!!!! I feel ripped off!

Had to cancel much needed surgery the day before due to NIB lies
I needed surgery to treat advanced endometriosis. It required 2 surgeons as it has spread throughout my abdomen. I called NIB to check I was covered for the surgery in a private hospital - they said I was. So I scheduled the surgery. I called again 2 weeks later to double check. They ran the item numbers, said I was covered for 3 out of the 4, and that I was 100% covered for all hospital and operating theater costs. had to pay the entire surgeon's feel myself, but everything else was still covered. No problem. I even called the hospital, who told me NIB had told them I was covered. Then I called them again the day before to check one more time - and they tell me that not only am I not covered for the 2nd surgeon's fee, but I am not covered for anything at all to do with him. I asked what this actually meant, but the guy just kept repeating 'You are not covered for his part of the surgery' in an angry tone, without actually giving details. So I hung up, called back and got a better consultant, who told me that I wasn't covered for ANY part of the 2nd surgeon's surgery - including the operating theater costs for the time he spends operating on me, any complications that may arise from his specific surgery, and numerous other things. This information was NOT given to me in any of the other phone calls I made. I called the hospital to find out how much extra it would cost me - it was thousands of dollars, with the potential to sky rocket into more. I was forced to cancel the surgery at the last minute - and I have already taken a month off work to recover, having organised my entire life around this surgery I was told numerous times I was covered for. Now, I'm still in pain, I have no work, and I've lost thousands in lost wages. NIB also refused to pay another procedure, that every time I call them about, they tell me I am covered and they don't know why it keeps getting refused. AVOID AVOID AVOID!Similar opinion? Caught in the fine print
My sister is insured with NIB and was scheduled for surgery related to endometriosis only to find they would not cover her in a private hospital due to a bowel surgeon being required as well as a specialist gyno. She received advice that if she was insured with someone other than NIB her surgery would have been covered. She is (and now was) a Hospital Plus member for a number of years. I would suggest you carefully read and evaluate NIB's fine print before signing any policy as their cheaper price point appears to come with associated limitations in cover.
