X Trail diesel has issues
Do not buy the turbo diesel model. This is our second X Trail having owned the previous T30 model with no issues in 120,000kms. It was replaced with a T31 Diesel auto, no problems until recently when the fault light came on. Turned out it was the EGR valve which was clogged. Car has only done 40,000km's and warranty has just expired - dealer quoted just under $1k to fix. Research shows this is a typical issue for this vehicle (diesel only). Pity as this negates any benefit of cheaper running costs for the diesel. Dealer says too bad, Nissan Aus...Read more
tralia hasn't responded to my questions. After sales service and support is also poor - vehicle came supplied with factor reverse sensors, these go off all the time. Dealer(s) told me that it was because I had the (factory) towball on, and told me to take it off. What's the point of having it on - I tow twice a week! I won't be buying another X-Trail, or Nissan for that matter. Comfortable, space, storage Dealer support poor, EGR issues, parking sensors useless3 comments
Most diesels have this problem, it's not an x-trail thing. I have a diesel astra and have had the the EGR block up on me several times. Nothing 30 mins and a can of carbie clean cant fix. Or better still, blanck it off!
Model is a T31 TS 2010 model.
Thistler - while EGR issues are common, Nissan needs to acknowledge this and have it as a service item. While I'll probably blank mine off, anyone who buys one needs t... Read more
o be aware that they'll need to deal with the problem, and the dealership will want to charge them substantially for the privilege.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

2013 ST X trail
Really happy with this SUV. Bought the 2WD model as the worst type of road I travel on is dirt and it handles this fine. Very spacious cabin and heaps of boot space with excellent all round visibility. Fuel economy is great and I'm getting 7.3lt after 8000km and about 700km on a tank of fuel, it's comfortable and easy to drive with its only let down being 4 star ANCAP rating and the 2.0lt engine being a bit underpowered. Overall it's a very good practical vehicle that is great to throw gear in the back on the weekend and commute to work during the week.
Practical and spacious, easy to drive, looks great
Slightly underpowered engine and average looking interior

Clutch Issues
We bought a 2012 nissan x-trail ti in early 2013, initially we had some problems with the bluetooth with nissan replacing the whole system. At 15oo0km the clutch went and was replaced by nissan but this was not covered under warranty. 4000km later we are once again having clutch and gearbox problems. It is a shame as otherwise it is a great car.
spacious, comfortable
Clutch doesnt last

Clutch went at 23000km .. Nissan didn't want to know us. never again.

Great car!
Our T31 Nissan Xtrail ST manual was purchased in March this year as a demo and there's been no regrets.
This car is smooth and comfortable with plenty of room for passengers and cargo.
The car is only a 2.0litre so it's more a cruiser than a racer. We travel both city and freeway and average 8.4litres/100km.
The interior has a simple and practical layout but still looks good and doesn't look very plastic. The seats are very comfortable (we have the cloth option) and I like that the drivers seat has the option for back support. The blu...Read more
etooth is clear but is not user friendly when trying to look through the phone book. The exterior may look a bit dated but it's still easy on the eye. The side mirrors are large which is great and windows are big which helps with blind spots. Our overall verdict is that this is a great car, it's really practical and very comfortable. If you are in the market for a new car - make sure you have it on your shopping list.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Owners of more then one x trail
We been driving x trail's for a very long time. We bought one back in 2008 4x4.
We never had a problem with the x trail. ;) It's been every where we drive it mostly to work. As a home care driver. So short trips never had a problem and loves to drive. ;) it's been on 4x4 roads and never had problems.
We just got a new one 2013 nissan x trail adventure edition
The adventure package gave us free 2x$1000 bike's which is great since our x trail get's us to places
the good this about this spare if it's box i dislike the new ones and i felt Nissan has killed the x trail
the only recommendation is to buy a Diesel x trail for better fuel
Heated seat. 4x4, love CVT ;) sunroof, touch screen,GPS
Nothing

A 2WD SUV just for the Family
I recently bought a 2011 Nissan Xtrail as we needed a larger car to fit more than the average car. We looked at Station Wagons which did not appear to suit our requirements. On checking out the Xtrail, we found that it suited our requirements perfectly. The 2011 Model was at an extremely reasonable rate and just what we wanted. And now, some 6 months later, we are happy that we made the choice.
It was just perfect for an average family with appropriate space and luggage area.

Great Family SUV
I have owned my 2010 Diesel TL from new and couldn't be happier with my choice. GPS is easy to use. Fuel economy is great, heated leather seats are extremely comfortable. Large sunroof is like driving a convertible when full opened. Blue tooth works great. Love that car x-trail lover
Great all round visibility, very easy to live with.
Low profile tyres can be a bit firm over speed humps.

My horrible experience with Nissan X-Trail TL-D 2012
I have purchased the Nissan X-Trail TL-D back in May 2012 for the cost of $46,000 from Western Nissan, Victoria. I always wanted to go for SUV and while I had cheap options from Honda-CRV, Toyota Rav4 and Kia Sportage, I decided to go for X-Trail as I had the feeling Nissan X-Trail would be a much more reliable car.
Problem with Sunroof
After four weeks waiting the car delivered on 1st June 2012. On the first day at the dealership I’ve found sunroof does not work as it suppose to be. I was pretty upset as I spend quite a lot of money and...Read more
on the first day I found some faulty with the vehicle. I was being told by Ellios (my dealer at Western Nissan) that is should be something small fix and asked me to come on next day. Whfen I went there the next day only to be told I should book in with a service department and should come on another day. I was devastated I had to leave my car which I bought brand new after spending nearly $50k at the dealership for a “FIX” just after few days from delivery. I have been told sunroof electronic system had not reset before the delivery and when they “reset” the system it was fixed. I was kind of relieved but still was pretty upset for the experience I’ve got after purchasing a brand new vehicle..11 comments

pre delivery department of his dealership. Diagnosing why an air con system has no gas involves searching for signs of leaks, when cars are built they do not have a fluorescent dye in the gas so it makes it very difficult to find leaks, the mechanic would had to have regassed the system with dye and get the customer to drive it until air con stops working again and then you can see the dye, dealerships cannot hold all parts for all models that they sell, they just don't have the budget. By the way I do not work for Nissan or any of their dealers I just hate when people that have No idea about cars or dealerships carry on with nonsense.Good Advice Steve, you've obviously walked in Nadula's shoes for the last 6 months. Wouldn't buy one
Hired a 2012 petrol model for a regional QLD trip this year so had it for 10 days. It felt really flimsy with no torque, especially on hilly roads. Felt like a cheap car. No lie our 13 year old Forester GT is a way better drive. Part time 4wd is a pretender
Quiet engine, practical if cheap feeling interior, good fuel economy on hwy
Cheap, flimsy feel, no torque, harsh when revved.

Shame to hear about your experience . I didn't like the petrol xiy. diesel has traditional 6 speed auto and engine I has plenty of torque. One of my likes with the X-trail is the build quality and feel.

I've had my ST T31 Auto X-Trail from new 4.5 years now and can not find anything to complain about. It has fantastic fuel economy, very comfortable( I drive all day)and so much room yet easy to park.I'm thinking of getting the new one as the deals are too good at the moment although at 105,000 Klms this one is running great.
Cheap to run and service and never lets me down.

Great family car
Bought an st manual 2010 4wd. Great comfy car that is very fuel efficient in town and on the open road 8.8l per hundred around town and 7.9 on long trips. Excellent cargo area and storage. It does lack in power for me and torque. I did tow a trailer with about 1800kgs on it which is pushing its limits but it did do it.
Great 6 speed gearbox in town and cruising on the highway.
Cloth seats that wipe clean really well are good for families.
Having come from sports cars I felt on a recent trip on the putty road that it handles surprisingly well. I personally love the look of this model.
Great no frills family SUV for those that are happy with simple, if not grab the ti with all the fun gadgets.
I would buy another one....Read more

Dissapointing X trail
we bought an X trail in 2010. A good car to buy if you dont do any 4wdriving.Its just a pretend 4wd. Knocked the underside of the car and did a cv joint. Nissan of course didn't want to know. The suspension is too low to the ground if you do any serious 4w driving. 35.000km and we cant wait to get rid of it!
an annoying whistling sound coming from the dash. Pretend 4wd. Have to dismantle the whole of the back to get at the spare tyre. Only getting 30,000km wear from a tyre.

Inadequate clutch for towing purposes
I purchased a 2012 manual petrol specifically for towing my 1165kg (tare) caravan. However, the clutch burned out at 13000k leaving me stranded 250k east of Port Hedland WA. Nissan refused to honour repairs under warranty claiming no structural defect. Repair bill was $4500 but after numerous complaints Nissan eventually paid for the repair as a goodwill gesture. Anecdotally, have heard a number of similar stories regarding manual xtrails and navarras and there has been some newspaper reports on this also.
The xtrail is allegedly capable of towing 2000kg - but not for long! My caravan was 1450kg all up. It is really a soft suv ideally suited for town use.
I have sold the vehicle.

hough for anyone with delusions of towing a caravan with an inadequate vehicle. They are great for town use but the fwd option is handy for dirt roads and slippery conditions and the extra clearance does help over sharp approaches and drop offs. From all accounts Nissan does not have a great reputation for helping so it sounds like you did OK in that regard - eventually.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Nissan warrranty is worthless and their conduct reprehensible
This is my second X-Trail. Had my first from new for 8 years without a single issue.
Liked it so much I bought another two years ago. 1.5 weeks ago the clutch / manual transmission started to play up, had no power and could not engage.
Took it to the Nissan dealer who serviced it since new; the mechanic looked under the bonnet and announced the clutch was worn. Even I knew you can'rt see the clutch without taking it out! Then they said, clutches are wear and tear. Age, warranty status, km's, never have been off road, never towed (doesn't ha...Read more

Excellent SUV - Great family car - Love the Diesel
We looked at the Ti version in the showroom and fell in love with the wonderfully comfortable leather interior, but I was a little cautious about the CVVT transmission and I was keen on a Diesel, so we bought (without test drive) the TL Diesel. I am SO glad I did! The Diesel (which is of Renault pedigree) has heaps of torque and is incredibly economical on fuel. On combined City/country cycle (including some off-road work) we are achieving 8.0L/100km which exceeds the Nissan spec.
The auto transmission has incredibly long legs and in fact s...Read more

We purchased off the internet and got a great deal on a top of line TL. Has already done 30000klms of rough western Qld driving, and hasnt missed a beat. Air con great and comfortable. One warranty claim, one window got a rattle, but I think due to rough terrain, but fixed no troubles.

d have peace of mind. Yesterday I filled wrong fuel for first time in my life as I was in a rush. In my Xtrail diesel I have got now 15 litter of unleaded. I did not even insert the key as I would activate the pump and called the tow truck. In the morning I tried to find the tank drainage valve... no way. I opened the back seat to access the tank where you can see two plugs top be undone but without proper device you can cut you hands and achieve nothing. Called Nissan and the reception was the filter preventing me to talk to a manager as a dealer wanted to charge me $450 to drain the tank. I just wanted to purchase the proper clamps to undo the two plastic wheels. Called another major dealer but no help if not same costly rocket science operation... I believe a car company should not built cars designed for specialised tools and mechanics - e.g. even undoing the bolt to drain oil and service by yourself or by normal mechanic - I told all these noble parties that lack of fairness = lack of ethical standards and sure I'll fix the problem myself, sell my Nissan and never buy one again - nor myself nor relatives and likely good friends. Very good cars but costly fishy service and production design to empty your pocket.Keep an eye on your air filter, the is a fault with the Xtrails when oil blows back. It tends to build up on your EGR and will bring on an engine fault light. When this happens you need to take it i... Read more

Check your manual mate first up. Second have a look on line where it is for your model. To be honest im a bit perplexed that whilst you are capable of doing a search for the issue and ask here that you have to ask here as the answers for your question as to where the fuses are, are all over the net.
