Diesel. The good the bad and the ugly
45000 km in 18 months in my 2010 diesel manual. It's a nice engine, economical, smooth and surprisingly strong. I have driven a 2011 petrol auto and it was scary gutless, very glad to have the manual diesel.
The body is practical and roomy. They were my reasons for buying it so I should be happy. Disappointed with the clumsy handling. It's a nice drive on straight country roads but very ordinary in the bends. I am wondering if better tyres will help. The stock items are just about worn out already and have never been good in the wet. The pric...Read more

Bought new December 2009. Major aim to acquire a vehicle that will be largely used for highway, urban commutes but with capacity for occasional off road and towing / launching / retrieving a tonne and half of boat from steep and often slippery ocean ramps Higher seating position of SUV's much kinder to persistent back problems.
For under 40k drive away with nudge bar, tow bar, roof racks, extra tint this car has proved brilliant. Came with blue tooth, six stacker C.D, ipod connection, six airbags, alloys, all the safety acronyms and dial up 4w...Read more

I love my Nissan X-trail. The height of the car makes it easy to get kids in and out. The CVT auto makes for smooth driving. It is easy to park, and has good driver visibility. The limited leg room in the rear is only an issue when adults sit in the back.
We bought our auto Nissan x-trail because of it's huge boot space (pram fits in length-ways), CVT auto - makes for very smooth driving.
The leg room for rear passengers is minimal. Once a cargo barrier was installed there was less room in the boot (pram no longer fits length-ways). The local dealership offers very poor servicing. I plan to drive 200km to the next town to get my car serviced from now on.

The only reasons we finally didn't settle on the X-trail were the lack of 7 seat option and the fact that the 2.5 is a bit under-powered for towing. A friend says he tows a pop-top around Australia with no problems, but his fuel consumption is shot.
These are the only reasons I would not recommend one - but if power and 7 seats aren't your thing, it's a fantastic vehicle. Highly recommended.
Well built, comfortable, smooth drive, good looks on the newer models, the boot space is huge, driver and passenger room is good.
The 2.5 petrol is a bit gutless. No 7 seat option. Nissan Warranty is average (when will the "big names" catch up with Mitsubishi, Hyundai and Kia in the Warranty stakes?)

I love this car, in fact, it's the only car I've ever had that has impressed me so much. Love the extra large sun-roof, leather interior feels so luxurious, ooh and the seat warmers are really nice on a cold night. I would highly recommend this car.
Loads of boot space, even with a double pram. Came with baby safety harness clips for all three back seats (most other cars we looked at only had one at the centre seat)Leather seats are easy to clean. large side view mirrors, allowing for greater view of theose around you.
Having gone from a small car I find it difficult to park at times, particulary in smaller shopping centre car parks.

I love this car. We have found the 'boxy' shape to be a bonus as we have been able to fit all sorts of things in the back of this car that won't fit in a friends CRV (Eg; three bike boxes on the way to the airport - all three fit in the back with the back seats down). We have saved a lot of money in delivery costs in being able to put big items in the back of the car.
We put bikes, prams, dogs, luggage, furniture all the in the back without any problems - and can wipe the dirt away when we are done. The back seats folding down flat is a gre...Read more

When we did our homework for a new SUV we were looking for something that was fuel efficient (with a preference for auto), easy to clean, a comfy ride, good visibility and had to have all the safety bits. It had to have a good follow up warranty and be cheap and easy to service. Most importantly it had to come into our meagre budget of under $30 000 change over price.
We spent a lot of time researching and test driving and the choice came down to a 2008 Subaru Forester and the Nissan Si. The Nissan won out, we got it for a better price an...Read more
d it ended up with a 2009 plate, it was a much more comfy ride, the auto transmission was so much smoother and the overall feel was a little less 'tinny'. We love our subaru's but I think we are now Nissan converts. Love it love it love it. The comfy ride, soft seats, the large, flat and easy to clean out boot with great storage space underneath. The dealership we bought it from and there great follow up servicing (had a subaru before and this Nissan is so cheap to service even using the dealership in comparison to the subi). The CVT auto transmission is so smooth and has excellent economy I understand it is as good as if not better than the manual. The lovely high ride for both the front and back passengers. the orange lit fuel, temp etc indicator panel and limited leg room in back. The accelerator pedal is also a little high so someone with a small foot like myself find it a little difficult to get their foot in a comfortable position without slipping off the pedal.Similar opinion? An excellent vehicle for long distance touring, good suspension excellent load area
2008 CVT Petrol Ti. Currently 60,000km. No issues to date. The CVT is excellent once you become accustomed - there is also the option of 6 preselected "manual ratios. Engine's torque characteristics suit CVT - doesn't flare and rev like some unless you insist on really planting it. Cruises at 1950rpm at 100kph and doesn't reduce ratio on mild grades - when it does it is seamless and quiet.Definitely gets better as kilometers increse up until about 20,000km. Have had to use the full size spare twice so definitely a plus if you go out of town. S...Read more
uspension compliant and quiet. A crawl underneath reveals it has German made Sachs shock absorbers standard - best car I have driven on the dodgy Olympic hwy in NSW. Rear seat leg room not great but better than it looks due to elevated rear bench - no knees up position. Storage areas excellent though you must unload to get the spare out from under floor. (have a practice at home) Good fuel economy (10.4 on my daily grind), Excellent for towing moderate loads eg 1200kg. Excellent ride and handling on road, loaded or unloaded. Really like the long load area with seats folded. You can clip out fold forward seat cushions if you need a little extra length as well. Annoyances really - no light in glovebox, Side bracket on glove box lid catches item when trying to close - ie not as large or practical as it looks. A little cumbersome around tight urban corners but fine if you leave in auto AWD and keep a bit of throttle on. Standard Japanese dunlops had poor grip in wet and did not wear well - only got 40,000k, The Yokohamas I have now are much better and believe i will get 60,000km. Quieter than some competitors but a little bit of "transfer case noise - don't notice it with radio on. In my model I had to go for Ti with sunroof to get the leather. I hate sunroofs in Qld. Later modles have addressed this stupidity.. Poor headlights - rectified on later models with projector style lights or Xenon on upspec models. I corrected mine with Phillips X treme bulbs - no more wattage - excellent.Steering lacks feel and took a while to get used to after my previous ford territorySimilar opinion? Very unlikely that we will buy another Nissan, and if we were to change our minds about the Nissan brand, we would definately will not purchase from Dandenong Nissan and Kia
Aesthically pleasing, seats are comfortable, plenty of space for luggage, economical.
We've had our x-trail less than a year and have had two fuel leaks, electric windows have stopped working, stitching on the leather seats has come undone, there is an as yet unexplained rattle in the passenger door and the car has burnt three litres of oil over a three month period. We have...Read more

Nissan Xtrail - Xcellent
We purchased about four weeks ago 2010 Series 3 ST model. We previously had a 2002 model, and we loved that car. We were looking at other options in purchasing our new car and narrowed it down to the Honda CRV. The reason why we didn't go for the CRV was it being made in Thailand, whilst I liked the look better of the CRV, better than the Xtrail, I found the interior a let down. I found the Xtrail offered a lot more standard features than the CRV, whilst not that important the CRV didn't have air conditioning vents in the back, the Xtrail comes...Read more
with iPod capability, 6 stacker CD and Bluetooth. The seating of the Xtrail has greatly been improved. Our previous Xtrail the fabric was horrible and would show every mark. The fabric now is black, which is so much better. We did consider getting leather, but couldn't justify paying $6,000 more. The CVT engine takes a bit of getting use to, but I am so surprised when you put the peddle down you get quite bit of power, a lot better than our previous Xtrail. driving this car is a pleasure it is lovely and smooth. And you feel safe driving in the rain. Previous posts have commented on the difficulty in reversing, I always reverse into parking spots with no problems, however I am finding it more difficult with this car than my last Xtrail, I am not sure if it is because the car is bigger, as it does feel this way, or if I still have to get use to it. being a mum I love the safety aspect of this car with the 6 airbags as well. We bought our car from Parramatta Nissan, and I must say it was the smoothest transaction ever, these guys were fantastic, could not fault them at all. As for Lander Blacktown that is another story, rude sales people who don't know what they are talking about. This is my third Nissan car, so far this purchase I am very happy with. For what you get with the car I think it offers excellent value for money. Excellent Interior features, smoothness of engine Having to pay extra for wanting any other colour than white- happy we wanted a white carSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Love Love Love it. Also love the huge boot, fold down seats creates even more room, have even slept in the back and I am 5ft9. Also love the fact that the car itself is easy to get in an out of. I have a bad back so just slide in and out no side steps in the way. Also love the interior lights especially at night. I am very happy with my Xtrail
Love my Nissan Xtrail. It is really light on fuel not a guzzler.
Only con is sometimes it is hard to reverse, nothing a camera wouldn't fix.

around 8.5 l/100km. Not a heavy duty 4x4 but will get you to where you want to go in comfort. Good seats, even in the back.
fuel economy, comfort
Inaccurate fuel gague, some gagues are hard to see. Paint could be better

Thanks for your review. Which make/model X Trail do you have? Seems to be more happiness with the earlier models, is why I ask. Am researching thinking of buying one.
Hi, out X trail was bought in 2009. If possible go for the auto model, surprisingly it is better on fuel than them. Check out the X Trail Forum for more helpful tips. http://www.australianxtrail.com.au/

If i had the choice again i would still buy the X-trail and recommend the x-trail even with the EGR flaw in the diesel.

I won't go into the technical aspects on this car - other reviewers have already covered that. But from a Mothers point of view this car is terrific! I have never felt so confident in a vehicle when driving either in light or extremely heavy rain - it just sits on the road beautifully. The interior is well thought out - just needs an ipod docking station.
The biggest disappointment in this car is definitely the blind spots - so much so that I rarely reverse it. As the blind spots are so bad it is also dangerous on the road when cars are just ...Read more

No lights illuminate when 4wd dial turned to auto or lock. 4wd doesn't engage. Is this likely to be a fuse? If so, where is it located? Cheers

Check your manual mate first up. Second have a look on line where it is for your model. To be honest im a bit perplexed that whilst you are capable of doing a search for the issue and ask here that you have to ask here as the answers for your question as to where the fuses are, are all over the net. Lazy times 1000 bud.
i just did a simple google search &found the answer
