Out of about the 5 modern cars that I have owned it is the best.
I bought a 2012 T32 with 20,000 on the clock. It now has 54,000 and it has never missed a beat. Highlights are a fuel economy of 10L/100Km mixed and 12L/100km towing a 16 foot Jayco poptop at around 90-100km/hr in all wheel drive. After a long run I don't have the back aches and pains that I have had with past cars. The choice of 4WD/all wheel drive or 2 wheel drive is great and service costs are very reasonable. The suspension is great and a lot of thought has obviously gone into this area.

Excellent used vehicle choice if you do not need/want serious 4WD
Purchased T31 Xtrail 2011 ST model with 50000k,s. on clock . My previous vehicle was a Falcon wagon. I tow a 4.5 mtr boat & a reasonably heavy general purpose trailer. I have very much appreciated the Xtrail's design & general build quality. It's efficient use of space compared especially with the Falcon wagon is impressive. The CVT gearbox efficient. The only criticism I really have of my choice after 10 months ownership is that it uses as much fuel as a 4 litre Falcon!

Great car
Our son bought one, loved it and we decided, after test driving Rav 4, Forester, Crv Honda, we would get one as well. Very solid throughout, good economy, comfortable, and goes well [CVT petrol]. Pulled a 1 tonne camper for a few thousand K's and still got 10.1 l/100 k's. AWD is a bonus. You can sleep in the back.UPDATE. Now had vehicle for 3 years and have towed a couple of different caravans. 70000 k's on the clock. Have replaced a small bulb on the map light (free of charge). Very happy so far. Rear sensors are very handy.
Great economy, solid, comfortable

Very Reliable, love my car!
We purchased our X-trail ST-L in 2013 brand new, It by far is the best car we have had, we had to trade in our lovely little Nissan Tiida as we moved to a Rural town and travel down to sydney Frequently and the X-Trail runs perfectly especially on country roads, still 2 years later she still drives like a dream and does not even use a full tank driving the 860kms we have to drive!. we brought the X-Trail mainly because of the boot space and space in the car, and also because of the comfort and extra's that we got with it in a nice package deal ...Read more
that nissan done up for us. We brought ours from Nissan in Macarthur and i must say they are the best Nissan dealer by far that we have dealt with and continue to drive there for servicing because of there customer service, they really look after their customers!Similar opinion? Chewing tyres
My 2008 TL DCI has been nothing but trouble from day one. It has now done 100k on three sets of tyres despite getting the wheel alignment done ever 10,000 km. I take it to the same tyre co., and it is out every time. It still wonders all over the road. Far cry from the sure footed European cars. The a/c blew up and I had to go without it for three weeks in the middle of summer while they waited for parts. Nissan needed to replace the sunroof as it refused to close. I might add this only happened after some heated arguments. I am not 100% sure, ...Read more
but the 4x4 disconnects when the gear box gets too hot. Light on the dash indicates it is still connected. I don't like the new model XTrail. There is therefore no chance I will ever buy another Nissan.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Nissan X trail is fairly high enduring
I actually using this for my business so It is being used everyday for long trips in regional and outback area. The performance is really smooth and it is very comfortable inside. I'm happy and looking forward to the next years edition. It's a bit pricey compared to competitor brands but I love nissan ever since

Extremely disappointing
Our 2008 xtrail suited our family beautifully for a couple years. I even promoted the car to a few friends of mine who then went on and purchased one as we liked it so much. (The power of word of mouth!). A definite bearing noise and vibration developed in our car from the CVT gearbox. Nissan Australia told me to take it to my local Nissan servicing department for assessment. Funnily enough they said it was a 'normal noise' even though it 'didn't sound right'. I took it to a gearbox specialist who said the 2 bearings and cvt cluster in the gea...Read more
rbox were about to fail. $8000 problem!!!!!! Nissan continued with their hard line approach. Nissan do not want to know you after a car purchase. I wish they would back up a good car with good honest service. I vow to NEVER buy another Nissan. Service is terrible to say the least. About to take my complaint to Claims and Administrative Tribunal to have the problem dealt with once and for all. (Search online, others have had great success). Should have been recalled and fixed like the VW DSG models were. Maybe we have to wait for a Nissan driver to be involved in a accident for that to happen as in the VW case...... Poor performance Nissan.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

A very versatile SUV
We love our X-trail! It is a daily driver to and from work in stop start traffic and we've never had a problem with the gearbox despite all the changing up and down. Still as smooth as the day we got it. Seats are very comfortable, and the cabin is very spacious. Great on fuel, too.
We have also taken it off-road a number of times. Nothing hard core, but we did a trip across the centre of Australia and did about 1500 kms on well formed gravel roads. It handled itself very well and we never felt like it would fail us (however, we did upgrade ...Read more
the shock absorbers beforehand as the stock ones would have overheated on the corrugations). The only fault I can find with this car is the ground clearance, which isn't particularly important if you stay on the road anyway!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Love it. has so much room. so easy to park
Love our 2012 xtrail auto. We go camping and tow a boat never had an issue. great on fuel. Love the storage draws in the boot. so easy to park, i owned a kia rio before this so was very nervous about a bigger car but absolutely love it. So glad we decided on this and not cx5.

Great SUV one flaw
I have a 2008 X trail TS (2.0 diesel)6 speed manual. It is a great family SUV with good economy/power . Read many bad reports re the diesel particulate filter issues. The warning light comes on and you have to give it a good run up the freeway to blow out the filter. Worked twice a year for two years then last time the engine light came on,dealer had it two days, cost $300 dollars with warning that next time could need a new filter ( around $5000).Car is less than $100k kms this fault is known to dealers and a thorn in the side of owners. Nissan should come to the party replace the system and restore the bullit proof image X trails have had prior to the DPF.

What would you replace it with?
I have a 2008 X Trail ST-L. Just recently I thought about replacing it but so far I don't see anything that comes close for a reasonable price. It's been a great car for me and looks like it will be for a few more years.

Diesel Engine needs replacement after 40,000km! Nissan refused to assist $1
Last year we bought a used Tdi T30 Diesel Auto X-trail with much expectation of the quality experienced in previous Patrol and Pathfinder (new) purchases. 1 day in to a trip intrastate (NSW) the engine suddenly developed a noise. Result major engine damage due to failed injector, cracked bearing and damaged crankshaft. Nissan Australia refused to assist $1 in cost of new engine despite known design and manufacturing faults and this vehicle having only 40,000kms on the clock!
Result - No more Nissan's for me or my family. Rather than praising t...Read more

X-trail diesel fatally flawed
We bought a diesel X-Trail in 2009 and up until it hit 120 000klm we thought it was the bees knees, both economical and powerful enough for our needs. Living in the northern suburbs of Wollongong it had a daily return trip to the southern suburbs of Sydney which meant a good mix of freeway and city driving.
At 120 000 klm the diesel particulate filter (DPF) failed and Nissan wanted $5000 for a new replacement (including fitting). As this was unaffordable we chose to source a second hand one from a wrecker which still cost us $2000. It has la...Read more
sted about 3 months, with two visits to Nissan to regenerate. Of course, the issue is our fault as we did not buy a new one, or so we are told. Drivers of diesels are told that DPFs can clog up during city driving and they need a run at higher engine revs to burn off accumulated carbon. A quick trawl through internet postings shows that this advice has mixed success, at best. Some brands seem more susceptible to others, a conclusion supported by a discussion with a mechanic who had worked for BMW, Audi and VW. Alternatives such as bypassing the DPF are technically feasible but illegal. As a diesel owner we felt that the slightly higher fuel costs (based on my travels an Australian quirk) and more regular servicing were acceptable prices to pay. However, our DPF experience and internet research suggest that unpredictable and expensive failures are far from rare and mean that diesel engines for cars may have fatal flaw that savvy motorists should be well aware of before making a purchase. Good fuel economy, good power, comfortable to drive DPF filterSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great roomy car
My fourth car and so far my favourite! The xtrail has had no issues so far and has proven to be a solid car for any urban terrain. Haven't taken it off road but it has never been bogged in any sandy car parks. I will find it hard to find another car like this. Being tall (6"5') makes it hard to find a car that is comfortable.
roomy great for tall ppl and smooth drive
Bluetooth phone link is hard to figure out

Not really impressed, should of looked around longer
Well I purchased a demo 2012 series 4 TI May last year with only 6700kms on the clock.
Radio has been really bad from day one. sale nissan just tell me it's a sale thing, but none of my friends or family have any issues picking up local radio.
The sunroof has been rattling for months, and to be honest the fuel economy SUX.
It's about to have it's 20,000 km service, and it just purchased a signal booster hopefully nissan may install for me to try and improve the radio.....if not I'm guessing consumer affairs will be hearing from me.

Second hand SUV, perfect Mum car
We've recently just purchased a second hand 2009 Nissan X-Trail T31. We were exceptionally lucky to find one with only 20,000kms after almost 5 years.
We were looking for a medium family car as we have a new bub on the way. Wifey wanted an SUV for the convenience of height (putting the baby in and out of the car),
I had a long criteria including:
Fuel economical
Deep boot that would fit a pram straight,
Wide enough internally for 2 car seats and a booster (for the future)
Safety Features
Responsive to drive

Was great until...
We purchased our diesel manual xtrail in 2010. Loved it until things started to break. And I mean expensive things.
The DPF filter, 2000km out of warranty, $3,700.
Transfer case @ 110,000km.
Clutch @ 116,000km. The clutch costs $4,000 to replace?
We've taken this car on the beach twice in 5 years. Never been stuck or bogged. Never towed large amounts.
Biggest waste of money for us ever. Big regret.
Currently on the market for a new car.
Powerful enough, good size, comfortable.
Expensive stuff keeps breaking, massive sun visor blocks view, bad blind spot created by front drivers side pillar.
