It has taken months for me to progress a not-at-fault car insurance claim. At various points in the process I have been informed that NRMA has revalued the car without my agreement, lost the location of the vehicle following the accident (leaving me to find which repairer the car had gone to), ignored phone calls and emails for weeks at a time and refused to provide a temporary replacement vehicle - despite my policy entitling me to one. In my unpleasant experience, the company is focused purely on short-term profits at your expense.

Not worth the money! Horrific customer service! Unethical company!
STAY AWAY! It’s an extremely Unethical Company! You cannot imagine how despicable the company value is. I used my comprehensive cover to fix a small scratch for my car, the cover premium increased by about $500 the next year.

Pathetic joke of an insurance company.
Terrible communication, don't bother to call or update when they should or say they will.
Leave their customers of 30+ years in car - less for over 3 weeks and counting.
Will not cover a hire car in the interim.
Utterly appalled with this service.

Loyalty for nothing
I’ve been with NRMA for 13 years. This year my premium increased by almost $600. I’ve not been in an accident and made no changes to my policy. When I called to ask why the premium had increased, the customer service rep was not able to provide any clarity. She was more than happy for me to switch to another insurer and made very little attempt to try keep me as a customer. Loyalty means nothing to this company. I will be switching to another insurer.

Was put with NRMA in my new car purchase in 2016. Every year the premium increased then when I enquired about the NO claims bonus, I was told that I was getting the NO claims bonus already even though my premiums kept on going - nothing but UP& UP& UP.

Rude staff/ worst customer service
I opened a claim on 06th of April and since then I've been calling and enquiring about my motorcycle and why it was taking so long. Wednesday 08th of April, I called and was informed that the assessment was with the assessor and someone would call me in 24/48h (today is 21st and I’m still waiting for this call).
I called again on 15th and was told that the assessment went to the wrong department. It's been more than two weeks and I still don't know what's going on.
NRMA has the worst customer service ever. I'm so disappointed.

Still unresolved after 12 months
I had a traffic incident in March 2022. The repairer told us the car would be repaired in 4 to 6 weeks. They kept having excuses for delaying saying they found something else wrong. 3 Months later and we still didn't have the car back. We had to put in an AFCA complaint which pressured them to get the car repaired. When the car arrived, it had misaligned panel and over spray on several panels. The NRMA decided there were enough faults to warrant sending the car to a "preferred" repairer who does good jobs in Canberra. They found poorly repaired components, steering rack issues and a host of other problems with the repair and new problems. We had an unsafe vehicle returned to us. On the 23rd of August NRMA finally decided to write the vehicle off. They said they would deliver a brand-new car with all of the accessories we had on the back of a truck to our address. On 23rd of September the new car arrived at home and had been driven down to us which put almost 500km on the car, which is similar to a demo vehicle mileage. No longer a new car as far as we are concerned and NRMA Roadside informed us that the value of the car was $10,000 less having been delivered that way. It was dirty and the bullbar was misaligned. It is now April 2020 and we still haven't been able to get the bullbar installed properly and have had to submit another AFCA claim for having a vehicle delivered in a manner that was not agreed to. We were loyal members of NRMA insurance with over 25 years of insuring with them with multiple vehicle policies and household policies, with very few claims of which only one was at fault because I hit a roo. We will no longer deal with them as they do not have loyalty towards customers and do not treat people fairly.1 comment

Car was damaged in hale Storm in January. Still not repaired and estimated to take six weeks to repair minor damage maybe in May. Asked to have second claim repaired at same time. Refused. Attempted to call to discuss on many occasions. Never called back. Renewal premium $300 more than competitors despite no at fault claims in over 30 years. Worst service I have ever experienced.

There is no loyalty..Even after 35 years
I was shocked to have my elderly father complain to me that insurance for his car is so expensive upon checking his policy found that he was paying an exorbitant amount for car insurance $2,300 upon doing a check online I have purchased a policy with QBE exactly matching the NRMA policy for $1,100 how can you explain doing this to a 67 year old man who has been with NRMA for 35 years. Pathetic
I had a claim with you which was handled so badly i ended up cancelling the claim. You clearly have no care for your customers. After FINALLY receiving my car back the battery in my car has been changed to a smaller battery that doesn't power my car properly obviously thinking i wouldn't notice. I have called your call centre to have the issue fixed which was apparently to hard for them to fix.

Hail claim horror
My hail claim (lodged 20/01/20) has just been paid out BUT into someone else’s account. Instead of cancelling the deposit when I brought it to their attention or resending it and then trying to recover the money, I have to wait for them to successfully recover the money and then re-initiate the payment, god knows how long the recovery will take and then the payment can take up to another 7 days!!! I purchased comprehensive with extras so it’s not a cheap product and I’ve had this policy for 6 years as well as being an NRMA customer for more than 20 years with various products, the last 8 with all our policies. The only thing that gets them 2 stars is that my previous claims (hail and 2 windscreens) went smoothly, but they were also easy claims and at a period when there were few other claims. 20 hours!!! I was involved in a accident on 9/11/19 a unlicensed driver run into the rear of my car and boat l was towing at the time the other driver did a u turn and ran away putting me in hospital and a smash boat and motor the police report was received by the nrma in early February so far l have contacted the nrma by phone email and the nrma app there response so far has been nil not one attempt to contact me thanks for nothing l have comprehensive green slip and road service stop telling us all what tree hugging great company you are and do your job for you clients our you will lose them and who will pay for the monotonous ad's

lack of service, dont waste your money
I logged a claim months ago as some one in a hire vehicle hit me by passing through a no entry sign. Not only does it take them a long time to answer the phone, when they do they are rude, unhelpful and keep saying "you only have third party insurance". Not sure why this is relevant when I have paid you for a service you are clearly not providing.

appalling, would never trust them with our lives, livelihood and wellbeing
We are disgusted at the way we've been treated, particularly now, our phones and other items were damaged through a lightning storm in Feb and they still don't give us a response/resolution, my husband and I have health conditions and cannot communicate with health providers or specialist. We depend on friends or families to lend us old phones but have to return them or don't work at all.
We feel they don't care about us and have left us totally uncommunicated in case we need urgent medical treatment.

Better hope you don't have to claim, and NEVER use their 'authorised repairers'
Completely lost faith in NRMA car insurance. They have caused a year of stress, anxiety and depression and after 2 attempts at repair they still have not done an acceptable job. Do not EVER use their authorised repairers - I cannot emphasise this strongly enough. If you do, get your car inspected by an independent body following any repairs. I will be taking the matter further. I do not want a response from whoever manages these reviews - i've been through it all before and quite simply had enough.

Just picked my car up from a NRMA preferred repairer. Being night time I couldn't inspect the repairs properly... however once home, I noted there to be a lot of white marks & light scratches. When inspecting the interior I was horrified and extremely upset to find my rear leather seat had been cut & torn off from around the seatbelt clasp!!!!
Prior to leaving I found the bonnet/front grill/wheel surrounds covered in baked-on insects and the odometer was a lot higher & more fuel in the tank (at least 15 ltr) than when dropping-off. The repairer fobbed me off when questioning the insects and suggested I pay them another $650 to clean my car.
Both the repairer & NRMA failed to keep me in the loop as far as progression of repair, completion time was extended 3 times & it took 28 days to repair a simple, not-at-fault, rear-ending. I was also getting them to do a private ($400) touch-up on a scratch.
My car is only 3yrs old, low milage, garaged and well cared for. I'm the only driver and pay a very high premium. This is my first claim with NRMA, as the car was previously insured with another company.
What should I do?

You need to provide the other parties full name, address, phone number, driver licence & rego. You will not need to pay an excess if NRMA agrees you're not at fault, even if the other party only has 'third party insurance'. This happened to me recently.
