My only oven and microwave for 2 years
Due to renovation issues this has been my only oven and microwave for 2 years and it has been great. I've done dinners for 16, baked home made cakes, biscuits, pastry, the lot. My only small concern is if I have a heavy casserole in the turntable doesn't turn, but it doesn't affect the cooking. Small internal size compared to a normal oven because of the rotation (I had to buy a new muffin tray and pizza trays for ) means there's some juggling sometimes, but this was probably never meant to be the sole cooking device (besides hot plate) of a house.
I'm looking forward to my new triple oven in my newly renovated house, but I'll keep this beacause its been great.

Total Rubbish
The first thing we noticed after opening the microwave door when we got it home, was that the wheels under the turntable were so poorly made that the turntable didn't turn correctly. We immediately threw them out and put the 'wheel ring' from our old microwave in there. Not an impressive start. But wait, there's more! When you microwave food it's nice to be able to put a paper towel over the top to prevent splatter. But no, this machine activates a strong fan whenever you microwave so the paper towel gets blown off of the food immediately ...Read more
and you have to clean the machine ten times as much as you would otherwise. And that's not all either... The turntable turns while you're cooking in convection mode so you can't use large pans that use all of the cavity space - you have to use ridiculously small ones that will be able to turn. Why does convection cooking need to turn? And even that is not all. The most annoying thing of all, the thing that makes me constantly swear at this useless machine, is that it gets itself into cooling mode every chance it gets. As soon as any food has finished the time you set for it, both microwave and convection, the machine instantly starts blowing cold air at it. What if I want to cook a second batch of cakes or biscuits? What if I don't want my freshly heated food to be cooled before I have a chance to remove it from the oven? Tough luck to me it seems. I'd like to meet the designer and explain a few basics about kitchen requirements. I suspect the designer of this ridiculous machine has never set foot in a kitchen, or would be hard pressed to so much as boil an egg unsupervised. I despise this machine. It was a complete waste of money, and not cheap either. Our next microwave will most certainly *not* be a panasonic. In fact I don't think we will buy anything else that's panasonic either.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Could not agree more!
I have heard this machine for 4 years. Treated like a treasure I thought it was, given the cost. Magnetrons not lasting a year makes it not worth it. The cost of repairs is hefty. Sorry Panasonic. I hope all my other many panasonic gadgets in the house do not disappoint me like this.

Fantastic concept, great performance when working but ultimately unreliable
We love the look and convection function on this oven however magnetron replaced twice (18 months and about 3 years) and now for a third go. Can't spend another $400 doing this again. Been fantastic when going but spending on another repair will exceed what it originally cost. The repairer suggested we repair the second time because it was such an expensive unit. 'Made in Japan' on the front was something I thought would mean great quality but now will just buy a Chinese made one!

Panasonic Microwave Oven: NN-CD997S is expensive but fails repeatedly
We have purchased a Panasonic Microwave Oven: NN-CD997S. It has been repaired once already with an inverter section failure and has now failed again with the same error code, indicating another inverter section failure.
This is the most expensive microwave on the Panasonic Australia website with a recommended retail price of $ 1,329 AUD. Repeated failures and short lifespan are not tolerable in an expensive appliance that is expected to last many years.
The Panasonic NN-CD997S Microwave Oven we received was not of merchantable quality.
We do not recommend that anyone purchases this microwave until its problems are solved and the Panasonic Australia Support division is more supportive and conciliatory.

Bad Design. Inferior To Previous Model
Was so disappointed when I 'upgraded' my old Panasonic to this model. The inside is smaller and heat enters from 1 side so roasting/cooking must be done on turntable or else be constantly manually turning food. This means only the smallest of roasters can be used and have to pile up on flimsy stacker trays which can be hazardous and fiddly trying to place them. Previous model had oven tray so could easily and safely cook for a family of 4. Now am constantly juggling food about on stacker trays. Today got a H97 error and microwave function has gone. Can't wait to get something better so can't even see point of repairing. Expensive mistake. Should have ditched it long ago.

2nd Breakdown In 6 Years
When you spend near on $1000 on something you hope it will last. Like everyone else on here, had to replace the inverter after 2 years and tonight it has gone again. Bloody fantastic timing and right before Christmas. Will not be going down this path again as I expect a lot for my money.

Problems with touch pad settings.
I am so disappointed with this model and certainly wont recommend to anyone. Not taking it to repairer to be charge so much to look at it. Over it Panasonic I cannot say a nice word about this product.

Rubbish
Purchased NN CD997S to replace Sharp Conv/Micro which I had over 10 years never a problem. After using for approx 18 months, seldom used on convection, problem with fan belt (apparently) which caused burning and large scorch mark on interior. Out of Warranty of course, Panasonic not interested "Never had this problem before" Gone to extended warranty repairer who is not a "Panasonic authorised repairer" so Panasonic will do nothing. Will not have this oven or indeed any other Panasonic product in my home again!!!

Perfect
I love it. It bakes, grills and microwaves perfectly. Brilliant product. I use it daily for all my baking needs. Excellent as a second oven at Christmas. l had one for 16 years. repaired once without a problem. Despite some very average reviews on the NN-CD007S, l bought it and am not disappointed.

Helpful little devil
Loving it. Purchased it a week ago and very happy with it. Easy to use controls and auto programs to help you out. Good instruction/recipe booklet with it. Family size oven and more efficient than using my gas oven for cooking smaller amounts. It has microwave/convection oven and grill features. Changing the light bulb looks like it will be more complicated than the old National microwave. Should be interesting when that time comes. So far, so good.

KnuckleHead Genius
Cooling Fan Operation: As soon as you open the door after preheating the Convection Oven a fan instantly starts to “COOL”! Now what knuckle headed Genius inspired this idea I ask? It defeats all intentional purposes!
Once an oven door is open you instantly lose 3-5 degrees (Celsius), the longer you have the door open or take your roast out to baste, more heat escapes… So why did Panasonic think consumers needed a cooling fan to exacerbate heat lose!? Its predecessor which I had, functioned efficiently without it!
If you need to go from b...Read more
aking to microwave it makes good sense to have this as an option. The Cooling Fan is effectually noisy, intrusive, annoying, and costly on time and electricity! Here I compensate the heat lose by raising the Oven temperature. Panasonic NN-CD997S redeeming feature is it’s an ample family-size 42 litres; internal measurements = approx. W41cm x D 40-43cm x H 26cm.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Poor microwave perfomance compared to NN-2003S
I upgraded our reliable working Panasonic NN-2003S with the newer NN-CD997S and we were very disappointed with the microwave performance. It simply does not heat food as efficiently as the old NN-2003S. So I would recommend avoiding this model. We have since sold it and kept our old microwave. Please don't waist your money buying one of these ovens.

Absolutley love it
I have owned this oven for 4 years now, has not faltered cooks to perfection, I used it as my only oven for 8 months while living in a shed and cooked heaps from meringues to casseroles, to choux pastry, cakes, cooking cakes for upto 80 people one stage... it does a fantastic job, love that I don't have to pre-heat the oven. Currently in a house now and have 2 free standing ovens, my daughter is borrowing this oven until she finishes renovating her kitchen, she too loves it for a family of four.... I on the other hand miss it, can't wait to get it back... I don't normally use the microwave or grill option.

Good Microwave ... but!
Very good microwave and no trouble with Warranty.
Note that to get warranty it must be installed correctly ie. large clearance all round to dissipate heat.
Magnetron is expensive to replace so just beware if you buy this for the Convection Oven use.
Our magnetron failed after 7 months which we suspect was due to the heat from the Convection Oven not being
dissipated enough . We stopped using the Convection side totally and 16 months later its still running perfect.
In hindsight if another brand was available in this size and SS probably would have bought it, but it was the only 42 litre one around

Do not buy!
AS with the other reviews this oven failed after owning it for 7 months. Panasonic have said they will not replace it. Am very annoyed and disappointed with the whole experience, if thru all the arguments they do replace it we have decided we will take a sledge hammer to the new one!

Faulty Thermostats
If you have purchased this oven test the connection oven temperature with a portable oven thermostat.
My sister purchased the NN-CD997s in July 2014 and the thermostat was faulty.....the Store it was purchased from were fantastic and replaced it 4 times but they all had the same fault even though they were from different batches.....the convection temperature gauge reading showed 180degrees but only reached 100degrees which is why nothing was cooking properly. All 4 ovens were tested with a portable oven thermometer ....the last 2 in the store...Read more

TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY
I purchased a Panasonic convection genius in the 80's at huge expense for a microwave at that time and it lasted 15 years or more and i loved it. When it broke I brought another that lasted about 3 years. Thinking we had a dud, we brought another one and within the warranty the dreaded H97 code came up and we had to have the board replaced. Now it is just out of warranty and of course up came the H97 code again. These ovens cost over $800 and I would expect a lot more from them and would certainly never purchase another one. I am now debating whether to fix it for $400 or buy another brand convection for the same price, As for the service from Panasonic don't even go there.

Disappointed!
Previously had Sharp decided to give Panasonic a go. The microwave takes a lot longer to cook and after 2 years started cutting out after about 10 seconds with the H97 error message. Convection still works though and also hate the cooling fan. Will not buy another Panasonic, not worth the price tag.

Disappointing experience with Panasonic!
I have had three Panasonic microwave/convection ovens over the past 30 years. The other two were wonderful but the CD997S barely lasted 3 years. It is giving an H97 code. We have been quoted $300 to fix it, "assuming there is nothing else wrong with it." - in a bored voice. I am still deciding on whether to have it repaired. In the meantime I have bought one from Kmart for $110 which has a 12 month warranty and does the job, though microwaving is a bit slow. Defrost and convention is better than the Panasonic. For the price paid the Pana...Read more
sonic has not been worth it. I am now thinking that Panasonic will no longer be our favourite brand, given that the after sales 'service' is very poor. Many years ago when we bought their products their after sales service was excellent. The size The most expensive part broke down too soon for such an expensive item. Tended to cook the outside of meat being defrosted while the inside would still be frozen, however learnt to manage that. The turntable was impossible to clean and retained food stains.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Hi,

I was using my Panasonic convection oven (which is over 20 years old) on roast pork function. I had food in a double Alfoil tray and a metal temp probe in pork. It was almost finished (after 1 hour) when it made a strange noise so I stopped it. After an hour or so I attempted to reheat Vegas on microwave setting, the machine made same noise and died. Is it worth repairing?
