Extremely Impressed!
Take this with a grain of salt as far as longevity and reliability goes, but last night I used my new iron for the first time and can say and I am extremely impressed!
The iron glided over my business shirts with ease and took no pressure at all to get wrinkles out of the shirts.
Very light and easy to maneuver. Would definitely recommend to anyone!
Glides over clothes, light and easy to handle.

I love this iron!
I exchanged about 4 different irons in the last year until I found this one the GC 4865. It's the first iron I found that actually irons out creases in business shirts. It worked very well on everything I've ironed. I would most definitely recommend this iron, it glides over the clothes very smoothly.
Works well

Its a good iron except for the water filling cap it does not seal tight the model GC4875/22 if far better

Finally an iron that ...well actually irons!
As a dedicated & happy sunbeam iron user of 30+ years I naturally replaced my dead sunbeam with a sunbeam - then returned that as it leaked and wasnt hot enough- then I returned that one too - well at least this one didnt leak but also wasnt hot enough ie cotton on linen setting etc - I then tried a different sunbeam model (thats the third sunbeam iron!) - ok not brilliant but in the next two months it got worse....I was using crisp (starch) on basic tee shirts to get the wrinkles out!!!! and Im not a fussy 'ironer'!

Great product :-)
My old iron broke and we went straight out for a new one. This was the mos expensive I the shop do we decided to go for a "middle of the road" one in terms of price. Well it was awful!! Took it back next day and swapped to the Philips. What a difference. Lots of steam. Quick and easy. Light and easy to use. Love the fact it turns itself off if you forget! Definitely recommend.

Good solid iron, recommended
I haven't had this long but it is a huge improvement on my last two Sunbeams in that it does not spot water on the clothes. It's a bit heavier than my old iron but the upside is that I don't have to press as hard to iron out creases. It glides easily over clothes, it's a pleasure to use. It has Auto Off, Vertical Steam, Steam Tip, 2400W power, Deep Ionic Steam, Drip Stop, Extra Large Water Tank Opening Door, Steamglide PLUS soleplate (lots of steamholes), 360 degree Swivel Cord, Double Active Calc Clean and weighs 1.6kg. y holds a cup of water. It retails at $119 but I got it on special for $99 at Myer. Highly recommended in A Current Affair's ironing test (see video 'Budget Irons' on their website) in the Top Range category. Does everything that you want a good iron to do, glides nicely and steams well. No water spotting. Not particularly cheap, but you get what you pay for.3 comments

Good Quality
This is a good iron that I use mainly for business shirts. The feature I love the most is the steam tip, which is fantastic when you want to iron in those hard to reach areas, especially good for little items like baby clothes. The steam hit is fantastic and you can get a few good hits out of it in one go.
Steam tip is the best
After about an hour or so of ironing, it start to leak quite a bit of water through the steam vents.

Not good enough
I have persevered with this iron but for cotton business shirts it just doesn't do the job. No matter how hard I press they are never wrinkle free. Very disappointed considering the price. The only reason I am still using it is that I resent having to buy another one when I spent so much on this one.
My advice? Don't touch it, my old $30 one did a much better job, such a shame it stopped working and I bought this as a substitute!
Salesman sold it as the best iron ever so took his word for it.
Expensive, doesn't get wrinkles out well enough.

Never buy again
I just returned the model before this one and swapped to a better model I thought and got it home and not only did it leak from a hole in the base it also shorted out my power.
I agree its a bad product and i will never buy again

Lasted a few months then lost steam
This iron is a replacement under warranty for a previous Phillips iron that lasted a few months. Myer said they wouldn't replace this one again, so it's going in the bin. It steamed OK for a few months then gradually lost output. Usage has been ironing for two plus my wife's dressmaking. She has just pointed out that after an hour's ironing it has used a 1/4 tank water and her cotton dresses are not properly ironed. Even I can see they still have creases in them. When first bought it would use a whole tank in that time. Irons just don't last more than a year these days; you're lucky if you get that long.
Expensive, poor steam output, not durable

Worth the extra cost - a serious iron 'like they used to make' but better
I bought this when I returned the lower-priced GC2960 due to a faulty water reservoir lid (it wouldn't close properly). I'm glad now that the other one was faulty, because this is a big step up from it. It's heavier, which I thought would be a problem (the main reason I went for the other model originally), but actually I forget about the weight when I'm using it, and it really helps to flatten the clothes without having to push down. It reminds me of my mum's old iron when I was growing up - do you remember when irons had weight to them and ...Read more
got really hot? This is a serious iron that produces serious amounts of heat and steam. I re-ironed some linen pants that I had tried the GC2960 on, and it did a much better job and with less effort - I've never seen them so smooth. It glides easily and has lots of steam settings. The only problem is that it's too big for my old iron holder, but I've ordered a Minky one which is supposed to fit the Azure irons. If you're like me and can't stand modern, light non-stick irons, finding them weak and useless, get one of these. It really works, easy to use, glides well, lots of heat and steam, weight helps flatten clothes. Nothing much - too big for iron holder, a bit noisy, could use a guide to steam settings on the heat dial3 comments

Heaps of steam - perfect for work shirts!
I purchased a Tefal and was very disappointed in its ability to provide steam and its constant drips on my shirts. I took it back to Myer and swapped if for a Phillips Azur as recommended by the sales assistant. This is an outstanding iron for the money that provides constant steam and makes ironing my work shirts easy. It has good weight to it and glides across fabrics with ease. It also has an auto-stop feature if you leave it face down or if you leave it standing upright for an extended period. Both great features for people like me!
Heaps of steam, easy glide, doesn't drip, simple to use.
Hard to fault for the money

I'm very curious about how effective the ironic steam feature is for clothes that I cannot run the iron over. Would just try the steam alone instead. Thanks

Philips have perfected this product - not cheap but value for money. If you want a great time saving device that works very hard this is it.
They say don't buy the missus anything with a electrical cord for xmas but buy her one of these and you'll be in like Flynn. Power, power & more power with lashings of continuous steam.

Good
I thought I might have difficulty adjusting to the larger size/weight of this iron (only had smaller, lighter Sunbeams) but with my usual 2-hours straight ironing sessions, I have adjusted and now enjoy this task.
IT WORKS and does what an iron is meant to do!! Efficient steam system ensures easy ironing of all fabrics and its overall streamline design (and even purple colour) is outstanding. The turning dial for heat adjustment is much easier to use than the pointer type where centre dial remains stationary (Sunbeams). Also, steam adjustment ...Read more

It is a great iron for the price. I upgraded from GC3115 2 years back and have been using this almost on a daily basis without any issues. Just the item to buy for people who like o iron themselves and is not very heavily priced either.
The steam pressure is great. Be it your formals or hard and stubborn jeans this piece would flatten all of them without any hassles. The variable 6 steam levels with the added feature of steam shots makes it more versatile and easy to use. It saves a lot of time as you rarely need to go again on the same area of...Read more

Overall I am extermely happy with the purchase. I almost enjoyed ironing as it was so easy. I was debating purchasing the top iron with the Ionic Steam function which was $50 more expensive but this model irons so well I don't think it would have been worth spending the extra.
It irons beautifully. I mostly iron cotton business shirts and it gets through those with ease (even those that were washed a while ago). It produces lots ot steam and the bases glides easily over the fabric.
It is a bit heavy, gets through quite a bit of water (as it would prducing all that steam) and the steam production makes quite a bit of noise.

I chose this iron over the top-of-the-line model which came with an ionic steam thing for an extra $40 I think. It works well in getting creases out and I mostly use it for ironing business shirts. It works best when the clothes are a bit damp. When I don't use the spray, it's a lot more work but I guess that's what the steam/spray functions are there for. I've never had problems with the iron burning the fabric like my old Sunbeam did.

eft hand. It's got a nice sharp tip but the rest of the base is quite wide so getting into the sleeves is a bit tricky. I have to refill the water tank after each item of clothing - but that's probably because I use maximum steam and constant spraying. I'll get a spray bottle to use instead and see if that makes a difference. Works like an iron should, looks nice, good steam operation, light indicator when heating up, gets to full temperature fairly quickly. Heavy, big, thirstySimilar opinion?
