Works well but short life

published

This model is now discontinued but I would consider the successor model similar.
The vacuum cleaner was easy to handle and had good suction.
Did well on our hard tiled floor and also carpets.
Filters are difficult to find. Target no longer stock them.
After 2 years the telescopic shaft wore out so had to use gaffa to hold it in place.
Now 2 years & 7 months it just died. Not worth getting it repaired.

I would have expected it to last longer but maybe they're
designed to fail after not too long.
They should write on the packaging that this unit is expected to last 2-3 years but of course they wouldn't
do that.

My vaccum cleaner motor got burnt 7 months pass the warranty period. I contacted the Philips consumer service and their response was very positive and excellent. They arranged to replace the motor free of charge. The consumer care consultant replied always promptly to my e-mails .Dealing with philip staff was very pleasent.

Great Compact Vacuum

published

This is a great little vacuum. I found it's small size makes it easy to store and manoeuvre, but on the downside it fills up quite quickly and needs a lot of emptying. Does a good job on vacuuming hardwood floors and carpet. It's well built and durable. Definitely worth purchasing if you're looking for something small and reliable.

Amazing!

So happy with this vacuum! It is quiet, easy to manoeuvre and light. It is bagless and the catchment container is designed so that when you tip the dust out, it doesn't fly up all over the place. The motor is powerful and I feel like my floors get a great clean.

I have a 3 bedroom, 2 living area house and find the cleaner quite easy to use.As we have a lot of lino floor more brush would be helpful but is OK. Be careful though, I was getting a cobweb from the ceiling and it sucked the wallpaper off!! Not too noisy.

That was very complicated in the heading. I would have preferred a bag for the dust.

Great vac but unaffordable replacement filter kit

published

It was my fave vac ever until the time came to replace the filter. Good as I am at internet shopping, Target has no stock, many NZ shops that stock it do not ship to OZ and the only shop that stocks in OZ, as electronics is $40 delivered.

Great Clean Every Time

published

Great powerful vacuum, love the fact that it's bagless & you can see all the dust that your pulling out of your carpets. The only downfall is that we're told we must replace the filter every 6months at a additional cost of NZD $60. Other than that it does a great job.

Poor Suction

published

Loved the vacuum - at first! Great suction for the first 2 weeks, even had to put it on low suction. But after another 2 weeks had to put it on max suction and now it doesn't matter what I do, I have no suction at all. I've checked everything! Not happy at all.

Like it but something's missing!

published

Used the Pro Active for the first time last week and we were pleased it lived up to most claims on this site in terms of suction power. However we immediately found the cord was annoyingly short and that it lacked an attachment we consider mandatory .. a small brush head. This product could definitely use a "bristled" brush head to ensure the hunt for cornice cobwebs doesn't leave a trail of scratches. For $199 bucks though, good value .. so far!

poor dirt carrying capacity, clogs up after a couple of sessions

published

The vacuum clogs up after about 250ml of dirt in the canister and emptying it creates a big mess as you have to tip the dust into a bag/bin as opposed to a release-latch like in many Electrolux vacuums. The filter requires cleaning after each session and using it just becomes a (larger and more tiresome) chore. After a year of use (roughly 52 sessions), the suction is so bad, you'd get more vigor out of a dead donkey unless you set it to maximum. Even then, it struggles to pick up a feather and forces you to contend with the hazardous levels of noise that it seemingly has plenty of.

I'm hoping to ditch this machine off to some poor unsuspecting sod.

Worked perfectly! For about 20 mins

published

I purchased this product about 2 weeks ago - the first use was wonderful, great suction etc. The second time it lost all suction completely after I had emptied the bin and checked for any blockages. Same thing happened the third time and after pulling it apart to check for blockages again and having an empty bin, it had only a wisp of suction. The vacuum was used on carpeted floors and only used in a 2 bedroom unit.

Can't purchase Repalcemenbt filter kit

published

Tried to get a filter kit fro Target and Southside Electronics. Both say they are waiting on an order to come in. Why can't I get it from Godfreys where I bought it or from Philips?? This is most unacceptable, Without a good filter system the vacuum just does not perform properly.

Thank you. I live in Sydney. I phoned the number you recommended and was diverted to Southside Electronics. The kit is on back order. Maybe available next week. I live in hope.

Great Vacuum power but a bit flimsy

published

I bought it 1 1/2 years ago at target and it has a 2 year warranty. The flimsy bits are the swivel in the head it has broken and also it has a crack in the hose end that plugs into the vacuum so it pulls out all the time. I made contact today and was told I will have to buy the parts (wear and tear) you would hope to get 5 years at least I would think as I live in a small 3 bed house without any carpets. I was not happy and was told an email would be sent and for to me to apply under warranty but nothing has happened.

Great vacuum but lead is too short

published

The vacuum performs very well on hard and carpet floors. However, the extension cord is only 6m long instead of the 9m indicated on the vacuum which means I'm constantly having to replug as I go. I have tried to contact Philips several times about this and was promised a rapid response but have heard nothing. Very frustrating.

6 months later Philips are suggesting that 9m includes the vacuum itself and the hose despite the picture on the cleaner clearly indicating from the plug to the cleaner. Such poor service and not happy with the product.

After service not good

published

Vacuumer works fine, but after service - eg. replacing the filter (buying the kit) is next to impossible. It's nowhere to be found or a 3-8 weeks wait to have it ordered. On Philips website they say target stock it but that's not true. . . . . . . . . .

Thank you. We were asked by that phone number to go to http://sselectronics.com.au and buy it from there. $24 for the kit and $16 for the freight totals $40. I think I rather buy another vacuum cleaner from a company who cares about after service.

Hi, I tried to buy a replacement filter kit as mine is full of mold and stinks. I called the above customer service number and was advised to call Optimum Electronics Solution. They gave me $15 for Motor filter, $6 for the exhaust foam filter and another $15 for freight, whereas Target has the whole replacement filter kit for $14. Unfortunately not available in the stock. Could you please advise where I can get one, which costs around $14-15? Appreciate your assistance.

Mine has gone moldy and smelly too. And I always dry it out properly. Not very good at all when its suppose to be a washable component! Now I have to fork out for a new filter after following washing instructions exactly... Rubbish!

Hi,
I am planning to buy this vaccum but looking at the review most people are dissatisfied with the fact filter is not available easily. Just wanted to know how much does the filter cost and how frequently we need to change it?

Here in NZ Briscoes sells kit for around $17-24 NZ. With regular clean and wash 1 kit can last up to 1 year depending how often and how much filth you have to vacuum. For me filters were list of the problem. Shonky extendable tube and USELESS attachments are much more frustrating. I certainly will never buy Philips junk again.

Thank you for reaching out, Anisha. Could you contact us about this via (AU) 1300 363 391 or (NZ) 0800 658 224? We'd like to sort this out for you, so you can make a good choice. :-)

I am in NZ too - and can confirm filters are stocked (as above). Most of the people having trouble finding them are posting from AUS (Phillips rep might like to clarify why they seem to be hard to find there). I'm cleaning/washing the foam filter every 2-4 weeks, and have washed the actual HEPA (the rest of the filter body) once. I was a bit apprehensive as the documentation is ambiguous about which Phillips models have washable HEPA.

I would agree with interceptor above that the robustness of the tube and attachments could be better. So far I've had no problems (haven't had the cleaner that long mind you), but it should be noted that if you are rough attaching/detaching them you will break something!
