Our buying guide will explain which type of vacuum cleaner would suit you most, how much you can expect to pay for one, and which features are worth looking out for.
Value for money
Didn't want to spend as much as a dyson not everyone has $600 or too little that It was rubbish & a waste of time. I was going to buy the Russell Hobbs cyclonic from target for $179 as it's a trusted brand & I have other appliances that are good but it had horrible reviews I seen that the phillips ranged from $149-199 with pretty good reviews so brought one it's fantastic for the price Great suction that can be adjusted I had to turn it down as I was really strong it's light weight easy to move & hassel free cleaning with simple pop of a button...Read more
to remove bagless compartment to empty I also was a fan of the extra long 9 M lenghth cord & stylish simple design a lot of vacs are so ugly people compare cheaper vacs to Dyson which is ridiculous if you spend $600 of course it's going to be better than a $200 vac you get what you pay for.. That being said this vac does the job and is better than I expected would definitely buy again great value for money1 comment

Impossible To Get Replacement Parts.
I have tried every avenue to get a replacement kit for this vacuum and to no avail. I even contacted Philips directly and they sent me to a place 1000 km away that has the part. With postage, the part cost almost half the price of the vacuum! The ridiculous thing was that the part is the filter which Philips recommends is to be replaced every 12 months. Buy a Philips product if you like hassles.

Great product, great price
After trying quite a few bagless vacuum cleaners & continuing to buy bags for my old favourite, I decided to buy the Philips PowerPro Active 2000w, purchased at Target on-line. What a great decision. Small, compact but not flimsy but the suction, wow, sometimes I have turn it down it has so much power. Works well on all surfaces.
I did purchase an upholstery brush separately as it doesn't come with one unfortunately.
I highly recommend this unit & I have tried lots!!!

Highly recommended!
After other brands and models have let us down over the years, this model is a welcome change.
Powerful suction, collects heaps of dust/dirt easy to empty - and operates quietly !

Too much trouble to get replacement filters
I have had my Philips Powerpro vacuum for over a year now. I was happy enough with the performance and reliability until recently. The metal extendable wand does not stay extended anymore and the floor tool broke (this was being held together with tape). I contacted Philips customer care and was happy to hear that these parts had been approved for replacement as they were under warranty. To date I have only received the floor tool so I am disappointed that I am still chasing the other part.
I would have to strongly agree with previous comments...Read more

Wanted to love it; too much trouble just to get it to do what it's supposed to do
I bought this vacuum over twelve months ago, but haven't been able to use it for the last two months because nowhere stocks the Replacement Filter Kit FC8058/01. I had to throw out the original filters due to poor suction.
Poor suction has been an issue with this vacuum from the start. Initially the suction is good, but lessens significantly after a couple of uses. I vacuum a four bedroom home (vinyl and carpet), twice a week. During the third use I noticed a great loss of suction (yes, I empty the canister after every use). I found if I rin...Read more
sed the foam filter after every second use, the suction would return. This is unacceptable, according to the instruction manual, rinsing the filters only needs to be done every three months. It is light and easy to mauver. The telescopic wand adjusts to a great length (saving backache). The variable suction feature is useful for vacuuming furniture. I wanted to like this vacuum, but am left feeling frustrated by the continual loss of suction, cleaning filters and NO replacement filter kits to be found anywhere. I cannot recommend this vacuum.8 comments

Terrible Vacuum
I used this vacuum once and it was ok but not great. Lost suction after using it once and the head of the vacuum just pushes the dirt around instead of sucking it up. I find that I have to leave the machine on full power as it has three floor settings and I still need to disconnect the head and use the hose to pick up fluff, crumbs and other things on the carpet.
I used a Dyson after using the Phillips and it just worked like a vacuum should. Was very disappointed as I thought that Dyson can't be the only company to make excellent vacuum cleaners.
Would not recommend this product to anyone. Save your money and buy a Dyson. As there is no way the Philips would last as long as a Dyson.

Great -- if you don't have small children.
I loved our last Philips vacuum cleaner -- it had great suction until the dust bin was full, the cord reached right round the house, and I could vacuum in the same room as my young children with no issues.
This one also has great suction -- until you suck up a bit of paper or a tissue, which blocks the orange grate and severely compromises suction. The inside filters also must be cleaned *at least* every other time I empty the dust canister or the suction goes very low.
I can live with picking up the big bits off the floor before I can v...Read more
acuum but what's even more inconvenient is the noise. Not the volume but the frequency. I can't hear it but my toddler and 7-month-old both cry and/or wake up when I turn the vacuum on, even a room or two away. This has happened every single time in the month or two we've owned it so it's no coincidence. So this is probably a perfectly good vacuum cleaner, if you don't have young children dropping bits everywhere and being upset by the sound.1 comment

Disappointing vacuum
Bought this Philips vacuum after the superseded model failed after 3-months. We only have a small apartment with minimal dust and no pets. The rubber seal within the plastic canister broke after one use and the vacuum lost its suction. It is very disappointing and we won't be buying a Philips vacuum cleaner again.

Powerfull !!
This vacuum cleaner is really powerful and easy to clean. I had a standard vacuum cleaner with bag before. Was shocked as I cleaned with my new one as it cleaned much better.... And I thought it was clean before... After a few months I am still happy with it. I bought it in Target for less than 200 AUD.

Average suction
I think the suction on this machine is pretty average, especially for cat hiar. I would rather have spent more money and got a Dyson that has super-powered suction. The good thing about this machine is that it's easy to use. It is small/compact and it comes with a washable filter.
Good washable filter
Poor suction

Hi Melanie, Thank you for valuable feedback. The possible causes for the average suction could be that perhaps the dust bucket is full or the lid of the dust container has not been placed correctly. R... Read more
educed suction power can also be caused by a dirty filter or an object stuck in the nozzle, the tube or the hose. Make sure that the lid of the dust container is placed correctly. If this doesn't help, follow the steps below to restore the suction power of the vacuum cleaner:Thanks! I am slowly making peace with this machine.

This vacuum cleaner sucks
Which what a vacuum cleaner is supposed to do. Simply the best vacuum cleaner I have ever owned. The only thing I regret about buying this vacuum is all the other cheap and nasty vacuum cleaners I have previously owned. It is well designed, well built, easy to clean and easy to use. I enjoy using it - and I hate vacuuming.
Great suction, good length of lead, easy to clean, tracks well and makes little noise
Nothing at all

Average for pet hair
I bought this vacuum cleaner after reading many positive reviews on its ability to pick up pet hair, but found that most of the time it would just push it around and get stuck on the head. If this vacuum came with a power head, or at least a turbo head, I am sure it would do better, but as I bought it on special I'm not overly disappointed. Another small gripe I had was if you are not careful while disconnecting the canister it has a tendency to dump a handful of dust out of the hole which the hose connects to. Apart from this, the good points are that it has strong suction for the whole width of the head, the power cord is generously long (9m), and it is fairly light weight with an aluminium main hose.

Fantastic suction, Compact, Pleasantly surprised me.
This is a great little vacuum. I currently don't have the space for a larger Dyson beast, but was left with the urgent need to get something after the previous sucker departed unexpectedly on a one way trip to vacuum heaven.
I don't buy 'cheap' vacuums due to their generally lower quality of cleaning and lasting power, given I don’t want to be replacing something every year. I happened upon this by default. It was on sale and a quick scour of the web gave favourable reviews, so this was the one that came home.

use was shocked at the amount of ‘gunk-I-didn’t-know-was-there’ it got out of the carpet. Was surprised at how powerful it was for a compact unit. Usually I leave it on half strength or less as the suction is good and it picks stuff up with ease. I can recommended this model for those that live with people with longer hair, as there are no rollers for hair to get stuck in, yet the suction manages to pick it up. It would be great for pets. I’ve used it on tiles and carpet and it does both well without having to change heads (a 'bare floor' button on the handle turns on/off brush). It has a handy attachment holder on the handle and rubber wheels. The main unit is compact and I’ve found the dust compartment in this model easy to empty. It is quite a sturdy unit and does have decent build quality – unlike some other flimsier ones I saw (this one didn’t have an unboxed demo when I bought it). A HEPA filter was non-negotiable for me. Overall it’s been a great purchase so far. I give it 5 stars. Powerful suction, HEPA H10 Filter, 2 year warranty, Bagless, Dust compartment is easy to empty, Bare floor/carpet option in same head, Retractable cord The handle may be a little cumbersome to store in limited space, but not too bad.1 comment

Powerful suction for its size and lightweight.
I have the PowerPro Active with Parquet model. Impressive product and definitely is the bang of the buck. The build quality is above average. It's small, lightweight and yet with a huge suction power with 4 levels to adjust. It does suck up the carpet while you put it over half the power! It's bagless too and come with HEPA filter that is allergy friendly. And it also comes with 2 years warranty.

Hi, I tried to buy a replacement filter kit as mine is full of mold and stinks. I called the above customer service number and was advised to call Optimum Electronics Solution. They gave me $15 for Motor filter, $6 for the exhaust foam filter and another $15 for freight, whereas Target has the whole replacement filter kit for $14. Unfortunately not available in the stock. Could you please advise where I can get one, which costs around $14-15? Appreciate your assistance.

Mine has gone moldy and smelly too. And I always dry it out properly. Not very good at all when its suppose to be a washable component! Now I have to fork out for a new filter after following washing instructions exactly... Rubbish!

Hi,
I am planning to buy this vaccum but looking at the review most people are dissatisfied with the fact filter is not available easily. Just wanted to know how much does the filter cost and how frequently we need to change it?

Here in NZ Briscoes sells kit for around $17-24 NZ. With regular clean and wash 1 kit can last up to 1 year depending how often and how much filth you have to vacuum. For me filters were list of the problem. Shonky extendable tube and USELESS attachments are much more frustrating. I certainly will never buy Philips junk again.

Thank you for reaching out, Anisha. Could you contact us about this via (AU) 1300 363 391 or (NZ) 0800 658 224? We'd like to sort this out for you, so you can make a good choice. :-)

I am in NZ too - and can confirm filters are stocked (as above). Most of the people having trouble finding them are posting from AUS (Phillips rep might like to clarify why they seem to be hard to find there). I'm cleaning/washing the foam filter every 2-4 weeks, and have washed the actual HEPA (the rest of the filter body) once. I was a bit apprehensive as the documentation is ambiguous about which Phillips models have washable HEPA.
I would agree with interceptor above that the robustness of the tube and attachments could be better. So far I've had no problems (haven't had the cleaner that long mind you), but it should be noted that if you are rough attaching/detaching them you will break something!
