Philips S9161/41
I have used Philips Shavers for 35 years and this is the worst quality shaver I have ever owned. It just does not shave as quick or as good as previous shavers I have had from Philips. I purchased new blades thing the original blades may have been lemons but the new blades are no better. Very disappointing Philips. I am looking for a new shaver and may not buy a Philips shaver again..
Purchased in January 2017 at Shaver Shop.
Purchased shaver 16 months ago and gives a very, very poor shave.
I have been told by the "Shaver Shop" I need a new head @$89.00 and they only last 2 years. Why was I not told this when I purchased the shaver??? Very expensive shaves when you pay over $300 for shaver.
Will no longer purchase Philips or shop at "The Shaver Shop" again. This is the first time I have been so worked up about a product to complain. I have gone back to my old shaver (Philips) I had for 12 years without any problems, just wearing out .... no head or blade change!!!!

I have had this razor for about 12 months and do not use it as it never has shave well. I have been using a disposable but will go back to an electric razor but it will not be a Phillips. Not only did it not shave well the plastic locks for the blades kept popping out. AN EXPENSIVE RAZOR THAT DOESN'T DO THE JOB.
Hi Michael, thank you for this review. We're sorry to hear the shaver has underperformed from the very start for you. We would have liked to hear different things of course. Anyway, thank you for bein...

Hmm alright, Michael. Have you perhaps reached out to our consumer care colleagues earlier? There are some things to keep in mind when starting out with a new shaver. It may sound odd, but it takes a ...
Read morefew weeks for your skin to get used to the new shaver/style of shaving. You mentioned that you've given up fairly early on, so we would encourage to try again and to keep at it for a few weeks. During this time, it's important not to use other shavers or blades. Also, when cleaning the blades, it's very important not to interchange the blades with their caps, as these are pairs and wear into each other. If these are accidentally changed around, it'll take a few weeks for the optimal results to reappear. We can imagine that this all may sound a bit beside the point, but these points are definitely worth considering when trying again. Anyway thanks again and we hope you'll give it another chance, and please don't hesitate to reach out to our consumer care team if you'd like to discuss this a bit more directly. Have you been using it in combination with other types of shavers or maybe regular razors? We certainly agree that that would be an expensive way of shaving. The shaving heads should last approximately 2 years....

My kids bought this shaver for my birthday and they spent all there money on it. It doesn't even shave i can spend ten min shaving and basically nothing comes off. The blade appear to be blunt. I will never buy another phillips shaver again in this day and age you would think that shavers would only get better not worse. This one is going in the bin and will look to buy another brand. Absolutely terrible

The shaver heads lasted for at least 18 months. A fantastic razor with a fantastic quality shaver head. I upgraded to the 9000 series and expected no less from it, however, I now find that I am disappointed and frustrated after discovering that the shaver heads last only three months, at best. I agree with everyone here. It is too expensive at currently $89 for a replacement head to continue using this shaver. It is incredible that you are still selling this type of shaver head which is clearly of poor...
Read more quality. It is doing nothing for the Philips brand name, to say the very least. What can be done about this. Is there another style of shaver head that will outlast the rubbish that is currently still being sold for this series of razor?Hello Stuart,
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on the shaver heads here with us. We sorry to see of course yours didn't last that long We're curious to know more about the problem...
Read more, did they brake or became dull after too fast? They blades are designed to be pairs with their caps and wear into each other, so switching them with the caps of other blades, during cleaning for instance, will make it feel like the blades have become dull.Thank you for the reply. It appears that it is the shaver head base that is failing or just simply fails. The base unit makes a terrible grinding sound and does not turn the blades effectively, thus,...
Read more making the entire shaving experience a non-event! I never experienced this with my Philips Arcitec shaver. The shaver heads on the Arcitec were far superior to the RQ12 shaver head. I intend to ask for my money back and go for a different brand - you can't possibly keep selling the same head and receive so many complaints about the same issue and simply ignore it. More importantly, I never swapped the blade units around. I kept them within the original slots. I always used the cleaning unit to effectively clean the shaver head. If there was ever a need to remove the blades, it would be done one at a time, and the blade assembly would be returned into its original slot prior to removing the next blade, and so on. They were never, ever mixed with one another. Do you have another shaver head assembly that would suit this current shaver that you could send me to try, or, do I return it for my money back!!Thanks for clarifying and sharing the valuable feedback. Kind regards, The Philips Australia TeamThis is the second shaver i have had as i returned the first one after 3 months as it wasn't giving a good close shave. Starting taking longer to try and get a close shave. The second shaver same model was good again for a few months and now the same as the first. Will be returning for a different model this model is a dud.
Hey Alan, we are sorry to hear that. Thank you for writing down your experiences. May we ask how you shave? It is important to apply gentle pressure. The aim of shaving is to remove hairs and not the ...
Read moretop layer of your skin. Applying gentle pressure makes the hairs stand upright so that they do not get stuck between shaver and skin. When the hairs are upright, they are easier to catch and to cut. Furthermore, it is a good tip to make small circular movements of approximately 5 cm. over the skin. Small circular movements ensure that the hairs are approached from different directions. This increases the chance of catching the hairs and results in greater hair removal efficiency. If you move the shaver in circles, you have a bigger chance of catching and cutting hairs because you approach them in longitudinal as well as transversal direction. With linear movements, you approach hairs in only one direction, thereby reducing the chance of catching them.Related Articles
