Blamed for an accident that wasn't my fault
Was involved in an accident when another car did a U turn into my car as I was entering the road from a side street. Called to make a claim and they told me I was in the wrong, when I questioned it they just kept repeating I was in the wrong. I followed up the second day and checked the road rules knowing I was in the right with this particular road rule being advertised on their website. The second person I spoke with then said I was in the wrong, when i said it was on their website they said they weren't familiar with it, so I decided to send...Read more
an email with screenshots of the raa website showing it and then I got a called advising I was not liable for the accident and they told me that the other workers had made a mistake. A month later I am staying waiting for a response on the recoveries department chasing up the third party to pay the excess.1 comment

No Fault Claim appauling / RAA roadside assistance appauling
Not interested in helping when making a no Fault Claim. When you email them relevant documents they never get intouch with you within 5 days like they say they will. Why bother having an automated response saying that a response is on the way when you have no intention of replying to emails?
The only reason they have communicated at all with me is because I have called them repeatedly.
when I rang them to ask them about the progress of my claim they were vague to say the least. Did not want to give me any idea on how long it would take for m...Read more

Great customer service and amazing value!
I only joined RAA a few months ago and was involved in a car accident recently. RAA took care of everything for me, everything was sorted within the week and money transferred to me after my car was written off.
I would definitely recommended RAA!

Expensive and unfair cancellation policy!
Last year I travelled from Sydney to Adelaide and beyond. While in Adelaide, my car broke down on the freeway leaving Adelaide and I needed roadside assistance. I had no other choice than to join RAA car insurance, which set me back several hundreds of dollars, in order to be able to get off that freeway.
I bought a new car in the meantime and it came with roadside assistance included. When I asked if I could get a refund for the remainder of the unused RAA policy, I was flatly denied. I don't need two roadside service subscriptions and it see...Read more

Incompetent for no fault claim
This is the worst insurance company I have ever dealt with for a no-fault claim. Claim managers are lazy and incompetent. Avoid this company or you will regret it later with all your wasted time and frustration. I will be reporting my experience to the insurance ombudsman and also lodging an internal complaint as I have a page of errors in their service.

Excellent local call centre and good insurance service
The few times recently I have had to deal with RAA for car insurance they have been excellent. Calls are answered quickly in Australian call centres, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Their fees are competitive and the website works well. 5 Stars from me.

Seven phone calls with no return calls to be told as you own a business we don't take the income from the business into consideration when processing an application. If they told me when I first contacted them I would never have applied.
The accounts lady was aggressive.
My wife recently tried for 2 weeks to make an appointment to see one of their travel agents. She never had a phone call back. We booked through another agency.
We are paying members and this is the service they provide.

Why is 0 not an option !!
RAA were highly unprofessional in dealing with an incident between our car and one of their clients' car. Our son was driving, we handed over all the necessary details and particulars and waited for the paperwork. We knew he was at fault, we knew a payment would be required.
Accident occurred in May 2017, we received a court order yesterday July 18 2018, for damages and court fees. Hello - what?! No letter in the mail, no phone call, no nothing.

The worst customer service you could imagine
I'm with RAA for almost two years and we have bought their car insurance and roads services for our both cars. Recently a guy damaged my car's boot lid when he reversed into my car in a parking area. I lodged the claim immediately and provided the required details and police report number. I was told that I had to pay the excess unless they can verify the incident from the other party. I was also told that soon their recovery team will be in touch. I paid for the access and got my car repaired. It has been now almost over three weeks and still ...Read more
I'm waiting for their recovery team to fix the responsibility. I repeatedly called to follow it up with them. Every time I call, I'm told a different story by a different person on the other end. It is really so frustrating to explain the same situation again and again. All I hear is that we are still waiting for the other party to respond and soon we follow up but they do nothing. My access almost covered the repair cost and it looks like they are not interested in following it up. Earlier when I used to call them to buy a new product the response was quick and friendly. But a soon as I lodged a claim suddenly I had to wait up to 30 mins to get an update on my claim and all their friendliness is nowhere to be seen. Extremely rude and annoying behavior really. It was really a disappointing experience to deal with them. I have decided to go with another insurer for a car I've bought recently. I'm also canceling the other policies I have with them.1 comment

How hard could it be??
It's been 6 weeks since an RAA-insured lady hit me on my bike. Went through the whole process (police report, she claimed and I submitted photos, quote etc.) and am still waiting to hear anything. I've rang a few times to be told "the report hasn't come back from our assessors". No option to do a damn thing to speed things up. Maybe if they spent less on shiny tv adds....?
nice work team, be proud.

Worst customer service
I had an accident and I wasn’t at fault. I tried to provide the other party’s info and the collision no to RAA but they won’t accept any of the info. I spoke to two agents and they both said that I’ll have to deal the other party’s insurance myself and they can’t do anything about it. What am I paying them for if I have to sort it all out? They take your money and provide no service. Every person I spoke to including the police said that the insurance companies would handle it. Beware if you’re dealing with the claims department. The last thing you need after having an accident is to be on hold for a long time and then speak to someone rude who can’t even help you.

DO NOT GO WITH RAA!!!!!!
I was involved in a car collision with a truck and it was clearly the trucks fault. We have contacted RAA countless times and we keep getting different responses about how to claim. The first couple responses were a no, you can't claim, as you need to contact the driver and their insurance. Other times was a yes, so we gave the details of the other driver and their vehicle, waited 2 weeks for a phone call or any update and nothing. We called up and we were told that they can't do anything and that nothing was done in the 2 weeks! They could hav...Read more
e given us a call to tell us as they told us they would but nothing! The only thing they did after was send us an accident description form to complete. Sent the completed form and now we have to wait another 8 business days to find out what's going to happen! I highly doubt anything will happen. It's been well over a month since the incident and nothing has happened. There is no consistency in the staff that work in the call centre!1 comment

Terrible claims
I have an accident that it’s very easy to judge that it’s not my fault but raa still need me to pay access when I need my car repaired because they said three party insurance don’t respond. I suspect whether raa staffs are spies of other insurance companies because acces can’t cover the repair costs.

Terrible when it comes to claims
We have two full comprehensive car insurance with RAA, but when it comes to the point that we get into an accident which was not our fault, the service is terrible. I had to pay the excess and the answer of RAA was only they hopefully can get it recover from the other party. I have comprehensive car insurance ! Recently had accident! my car will be non - repairable. My car is used when we bought but it’s a 2017 Honda and was only done 10,000 and around 40,000 on the clock right before the crash !, my question is, I read it in the PDS that car can be replaced with same model, year and condition ! We have loan with the car, and we only need a replacement car as we need a car anyways as we have 4 children ! Dose it possible to get replacement car instead the insurer pay out our loan and stuff ? This is my first claim ever! Hopefully will be hassle free as I already experienced a very unpleasant costumer services and stressing ! Praying for a good result ! Thank you !

What is the average wait time for a pay out figure on a vehicle that has been written off under a comprehensive policy?
2 answers
Hi Marelle, it took about eight weeks, but I delayed the process by not having my phone on hand (leaving it in the car and not checking the missed calls) when the RAA had tried to ring.
Thanks Douglas. I have never encountered such a lack of customer service. It is causing me a huge amount of stress and financial pressure. I've been a RAA member for 17 years, and it means nothing. Never again.
