Best Insurance Company
Absolutely a company with high integrity, competative, combined with smooth operations after a car accident, where car was written off, claim made and settled within 4 days. Would not go anywhere else. Thanks RAA

The worst company
My vehicle was stolen and found burnt out on 02/03/2018 and I called them they said they will pick it up from the location and they did not call me to give me an update I had to call them on 13/03/2018 and they said the vehicle was not found on the location.
So they told me to ask council and police and they did not take it so police put it as re-stolen. Now they said I have to wait 21 days to get the settlement.
it is not my fault they try to pick up the vehicle after 7 days of the report date.
worst company! Never again.

Customer Loyalty Means Nothing!
Stuck on the side of the road in 38 degrees with two screaming kids in the back. Called RAA emergency call out and found out that Our policy had lapsed for some months without us knowing due to change of address. So they wanted us to rejoin at an extra cost of $100 price hike??? And wanted another $90 for the call out??? Really RAA?? I was a Gold member for 15yrs and this is the Loyalty you give your customers.

I love dealing with RAA
I have 2 vehicles insured with RAA (full comprehensive insurance) and my home and contents insurance AND RAA membership and I won’t deal with another insurance company. They are very helpful over the phone and easy to deal with and are good value for money. The more you register with them the more discount you get. You also get discount on other products like spec savers and some electrical companies

Avoid Avoid Avoid
Quite happy to take your money, but getting anything back from them is like squeezing blood from a stone. Always on hold, always being transferred, always some excuse or some hidden clause buried on page 83 of the terms and conditions that means your exact circumstances are mysteriously not covered. Penny pinched like Scrooge himself to avoid giving me the extra $150 I was entitled to, you'd think they were near bankruptcy the way they fought every cent. Their policy is quite clearly to delay and frustrate you until you eventually give up. Avoid at all costs.

After years of recommending RAA to family and friends, when I actually needed RAA they refused my access to the membership benefits with towing.
I called the enquiries line and was told specifically that the services, namely, towing, is bonded to the membership and NOT to the car. After explaining my situation I was transferred to another operator, who explained me that because other member had lost its towing service, I could not action mine because it was referring to the same car – this was minutes after being told that the membership is li...Read more

Don't go near it
Helped an elderly relative with a recent car accident claim. Had to do all the leg work to get a more reasonable valuation, and they increased the amount marginally but nowhere near a value that could replace a similar car as the policy holder was led to believe when taking out the very expensive policy.
They also disputed what was written in their product disclosure statement.
Overall absolutely terrible communication and awful to deal with (every person we spoke to was rude and patronising). No concept of customer service nothing but hassle dealing with these people.

Insured for 1 month - Claimed - Great service
I have been with RAA Insurance for 1 month. I was involved in a rear end collision (I was the car that was hit) that wrote off my car.
I claimed using the app and then rang to finalise the claim.
RAA waived my excess and sent me 3 crash repairers that were close to home that I could go to as well as informed me that I could go to any approved repairer that I chose.
As I provided both my details and the other party's details, photos of the accident and the police report number, they made this process simple and asked just 10 questions to clarify the incident.
Very simple process and the customer service representative was a joy to deal with at a time when I was stressed due to the accident.

1. Customer service lied about coverage conditions. I specifically asked multiple times about the coverage conditions and was told every time that it was all within their guidelines and no problem at all

tate attending to a terminally ill family member 4. Was then accused by the customer service person of "attempting to mislead and conceal relevant policy information" - the same information I specifically confirmed with RAA prior to agreeing to the policy. I will never recommend this insurer to any person. In my experience, they lied to me to get my money, then terminated the agreement when it suited them, then their customer service launched personal attacks against me. Cancelled Policy
Terrible service, do not recommend. I made a policy, disclosed my driving offence and was given a premium. Had my car keyed and made a claim, after that they cancel my policy. They say I did not disclose my offence properly. Well what happened is that I have never made an insurance policy before and the girl I spoke to to get my quote did not explain what an 'altered license' meant in detail to make sure I understood it. So after this claim goes through I need to find a new insurance policy. Which I did- Youi. They are great, I recommend them 10000x more than the rude and ill equipped people at RAA.

Good value thrird party property insurance
Have just signed up with RAA car insurance, so can only comment on the value of the policy. Was with Coles for my car insurance, but they doubled their premiums this year for no apparent reason. I had no accidents etc, so rather than query the rise, I walked. RAA is usually dear with their premiums, so I hope I don't experience issues if I ever need to make a claim.

Absolute Rubbish
I recently switched to RAA from SGIC. Don't do it! I had a minor accident when another vehicle came into my lane and hit my side mirror. Seems like a pretty straight forward matter doesn't it? Well apparently not for RAA. It happened six weeks ago, and we are still waiting to get the car fixed. This is just to repair a side mirror, can only imagine what you'd go through if it was a major collision and the car was not drivable! Every time i've called the contact centre I am on hold for a minimum of 15 minutes. They say they will get back to you ...Read more
and don't, do you have to chase them up. The repairer (a major Nissan dealer) supplied quotes that the assesor 'can't seem to understand' (looks like a perfectly simple quote to me). They tried to say that it is partly my fault (agh, read the Australian Road Rules guys) so i would have to pay my excess. At this point I advised that I will just report it to the Police for them to investigate as it is plainly obvious that i'm not at fault driving down the road, in my own lane, when an oncoming car moves into my lane and hits my mirror (they finally saw sense on that point after much carry on). I have had to spend a ridiculous amount of my time case managing my own claim! Yet still waiting six weeks on for the assesor to be able to read a quote. My cover expires in February, I will be going back to SGIC in a heartbeat.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Clearly don't insure caravans
Already having policies with RAA, I thought I would take out caravan insurance with them .... because we are going to be travelling and living in our caravan, they won't insure it ..... I'm obviously missing something, caravans are made to travel, surely living in one would make it more secure than leaving it unattended in some driveway and the fact that it is going to be our home we are certainly going to be looking after it as best we can .... it is the roof over our head!

Scam - Will do anything to avoid payout
My car was hail damaged 2016 when the big storm came through Adelaide. That was a friday afternoon 2016 October?November? I lodged a claim immediately online and went down to my crash repairer the next morning. He went over the car and basically said it should be written off (it was a 2015 Mazda). RAA contacted me later that saturday and I was told I had to take my car to an assessment centre. When I told them I wanted my choice of repairer as per the PDS, they said no. I took my car to the centre and they said they could repair all the dents v...Read more
ia Paintless Dent Repairs. I told them i didn't want any filler in the body work as that was not how I bought the car new and they said thats the only way. I rang the Senior Assessor and argued the point I want my choice of repairer as I have the right, so he let me go to my repairer to have it assessed there. My repairer said it should be a right off or about $15,000-$20,000 damage, but the senior assessor from RAA used the low ball quote from the Paintless Dent Repairs and told my repairer unless they can repair it for $6,000 then they can't do the job. The RAA assessor said he can pay me $6000 and I keep the damaged car. What was I suppose to do? I had to take the car to their repairer. Since receiving it back, I have had to fix rattles from the roof lining that they removed to repair the roof, replace rear window wiper plastic covers that were damaged from when they buffed the paint on the tailgate, reattach wheel trims that weren't fitted correctly and repair a broken reflector in the rear bumper bar. They did everything possible to avoid writing the car off to save them some money. Choice of repairer - ABSOLUTELY NOT! Their dispute resolution process is a joke as well. Lifetime replacement of vehicle if insured from when purchased new, what a scam, they will do absolutely everything to avoid replacing the car. Lodged a claim last week for a stolen watch at the beach. I had to sit a 1 ½ hour long interview with an independent investigator as they believed I was doing insurance fraud. They wanted my phone records, my wife's phone records, police clearance certificate, credit check on myself and wife, bank records, credit card records etc. They want to see if I was being chased by creditors and needed the money. They made me feel like a criminal. He wanted to know the value of my house, how much i paid for it, how much i owe, value of my assets, value of my contents, how much i owe on credit card. God what a joke. I told them to shove it and withdrew the claim. It was a $5,500 watch not a million dollar diamond ring. The next day I pulled all my policies from the RAA (they lost $3000/year from me in policies). Their loss not mine, I'll just buy another watch. Oh and it was a recorded interview, what a disgrace. They seriously make people feel like scum. They wanted to know where I parked at the beach so they could check CCTV and as mentioned, they wanted me to contact Telstra and get a location printout of where my mobile phone was at the time of the theft. They wanted to try and pinpoint exactly where I was and try and catch me out in a lie. I didn't give those details on the advice of my Lawyer, they have absolutely no right to that information, despite what they claim. RAA is a sham, an embarrassment to South Australia. The investigator asked me why didn't they steal my car? I don't know, I'm not a thief was my answer and I also said that the car is insured as was the watch, but it's lucky they didn't steal my car because I guess i'd be investigated for that too.2 comments

Completely disappointing company
I have had my insurance with RAA for many years, and thought I could trust them to protect me when I had an accident. Firstly I had to find my own repairer and then it took 1.5 months to book it in. Cue them using every single technicality to make me pay excess they could. I felt like a criminal and like they didn't care. The dispute process is a joke and they 'didn't get my letter' I sent in their own reply paid envelope after two weeks. Super frustrating to deal with, call centre staff do not care, you have to do all their work for them and it's not worth the costs just for the brand of being with the Raa. A completely dissapointing way to treat a loyal customer who is now leaving to another company.

Customer Care is a Charade
RAA marketing portrays a very false image about their customer care factor. In June 2017, they sent out a satisfaction survey. It had provision for disgruntled reviewers to request a phone call from RAA, to discuss their concerns. Arising from their disgusting behaviour after our car was stolen, we gave a poor rating, and ticked the 'contact us' box. They haven't bothered. That speaks volumes about their customer care factor. It's a charade.
And numerous other reviewers are correct in their assessments. If it's a simple claim, where the other party is known, they're ok. But if they cannot claim back from a third party they are the polar opposite - they're absolutely dreadful, cunning, and very hard to deal with.

I have comprehensive car insurance ! Recently had accident! my car will be non - repairable. My car is used when we bought but it’s a 2017 Honda and was only done 10,000 and around 40,000 on the clock right before the crash !, my question is, I read it in the PDS that car can be replaced with same model, year and condition ! We have loan with the car, and we only need a replacement car as we need a car anyways as we have 4 children ! Dose it possible to get replacement car instead the insurer pay out our loan and stuff ? This is my first claim ever! Hopefully will be hassle free as I already experienced a very unpleasant costumer services and stressing ! Praying for a good result ! Thank you !

What is the average wait time for a pay out figure on a vehicle that has been written off under a comprehensive policy?

Hi Marelle, it took about eight weeks, but I delayed the process by not having my phone on hand (leaving it in the car and not checking the missed calls) when the RAA had tried to ring.
Thanks Douglas. I have never encountered such a lack of customer service. It is causing me a huge amount of stress and financial pressure. I've been a RAA member for 17 years, and it means nothing. Never again.
