Nathan- Sunshine Coast- what a man
In the Sunshine Coast we had a mechanical problem with my car and in a very short time had a guy named Nathan show up. He was EXTREMELY helpful, kind, well educated and he identified the problem within seconds. He went the extra mile in recommending us to go to Repco- as he was driving by an hour later, he saw us at repco buying the parts he recommended and he pulled over to help us fit the parts! This guy is worth his weight in gold- going above and beyond the job! 10/10

Serious disconnect between the contact centres & the roadside staff
I have been a long-time RACQ subscriber for roadside but this won't be the case for much longer. Yesterday I requested a call-out as my car battery had flooded. The agent did his best to rectify the situation but after 30 mins or so was unable to. He called 'training' who told him to move on to the next job even though the car still wouldn't start.
The agent called back a few hrs later & returned to fix the problem because he didn't believe it was right to leave the issue unresolved. Hats off to this kind gentleman who was obviously frustrat...Read more
ed at the pressures being placed on him by his superiors. The main issue occurred when I called to book this service. The contact centre consultant stated that they had no record of my membership (I am actually a silver member) & that I wasn't covered for the car. Back in November I called to upgrade my membership to ensure that my wife & I were covered for both of our cars. The consultant at the time stated that all I would need to do is upgrade to Ultra Care (for over $200) mind you & this would be fine. Yesterday a different consultant listened to this call & stated that there would be no refund & it wasn't clear what I was asking for. The reason why I have always had this product was for peace of mind as I travel for work. However I no have confidence that this product will serve that need - bye RACQ.Similar opinion? RACQ broke our Indestructible Hilux 8/
Sunday 23 December we noticed 1 of our alternator belts had snapped halfway our journey from Cairns to Glenn Innes (+2000km) We made it to the next town Emerald where we bought new belts at SCA and they tried to find a mechanic so we could be with our family before Christmas. Unfortunately the only option was RACQ. We rang them and explained our situation and they said; no worries we will sign you up and get you back on the road. $195 is the price for their cheapest cover which is a small fee to pay to be home with dad who we hadn't seen in a c...Read more
ouple of years. The mechanic showed up in 20 minutes and started tinkering away without a word An hour and 40 minutes later he seemed to be done and he rushed off. We were happy to be back on the road but noticed that the air-con wasn't working anymore. A quick stop and a glance under the bonnet I saw he forgot to reconnect the plug which is not so much of a technical issue. Lovely air-con, happy girlfriend and 40kg mastiff x and myself are back riding home for Christmas!.... You'd think...... Not even a 120 km out of Emerald we had all alarms going off and smoke everywhere. Even in the cabin. Luckily we were able to stop at a truck stop with no brakes, power steering or anything at all. An angel was definitely with us. Popped the bonnet again to find our alternator hanging loose and an exploded radiator. Obviously our mechanic had failed to tighten something. As fresh RACQ members we called our new service provider again to ask them for a tow and explained to them what had happened. Luckily the only tow bloke in the neighbourhood named Spot came to get us within 2 hours and loaded us up. Underway to his town called Springsure (65km back) he explained to us that RACQ had told him to lock our car in his garage for 10 days and leave us on the side of the road. This was devastating news since we are camping with a tent and all our gear is inside and in the tray of our truck. Spot offered us a hot lot next to his garage to set up camp free of charge but we friendly declined and asked him to drop us and our car off at the caravan park 3km down the road. Which he did with pleasure. After we set up camp on this lovely green breezy camping I started next mission. Getting RACQ to help us out of the mess they put us in.Similar opinion? Watch yourself with RACQ Aussie assist
2500km from home my wife was in a serious accident resulting in sugery. As longtime platinum members we ridiculously believed we were in good hands. Aussie assist wanted me to put my wife in a cab for several hours after surgery to get to a major airport, then immediately on a plane for 3.5hrs. Unassisted and with nobody to receive her at home, as they say it is my responsibility to remain here and go retrieve the motorcycle hours away. She is incapable of getting around or even using the toilet on her own. This is RACQ’s idea of “caring for it...Read more
s members”. We have friends who could help in Melbourne until she able to fly alone. But they refuse to allow her even a couple days healing to regain strength. This I discovered after pressing and pressing to know what we are to do to be “eligible” for the coverage we pay dearly for. Aussie assist is anything but assistance. I owe RACQ an updated review. I recently recieved a call from a senior supervisor who was reviewing call notes and found mine. She said she was aghast at the way I was treated, and that that she was going to do whatever was necessary to rectify the situation. We are currently en-route home, with a stop in Melbourne to continue healing. They have covered a hire car and say they will ship my wife’s bike home once I can recover it from an area no tow truck is probably able to get to. I was told that the “rules” the representative had told me about do not actually exist. While I am immensely appreciative that someone has stepped in and is treating us very well, it is alarming that RACQ does have people doing their best to deter people from using the service, and treating people as I was treated. If you deal with them you will need to tactfully press them and be the one with the solutions. The front line people do not seem to be willing to be very helpful. The current service I am receiving is 5 star, but due to what happened to get to this point, I cannot rate them that way, as I fear it is entirely possible and very likely others will experience and have experienced what I did prior to the supervisor calling me.Similar opinion? Dodgy battery replacement
Refused to replace a 4-month old battery which I sincerely doubt I voided the warranty on. A second guy from RACQ gave a moderately different diagnosis for why the battery failed.
The second roadside assist guy was pretty nice, though.

Thank you Thomas
Yesterday I was driving up Petrie terrace brisbane and although I thought I had enough petrol to last till I was out of the city, going uphill the car (old ute) stopped dead in the middle lane. I managed to get to the curb and was in a difficult spot near a corner, especially as peak hour hit. The 5 stars are for Thomas the racq tow truck driver, he was kind and professional and explained everything he was doing. He took over, getting me straight into his air conditioned truck. He also didn’t make me feel stupid that it was the low petrol and got me safely to a petrol station.
Thank you Thomas.

Amazing service
Had to call RACQ for what I thought was a faulty battery. Technician was there within 20minutes and did a thorough check and established that no charge was getting to my battery and no voltage was getting to the battery due to a faulty part. He advised I buy a new one and pop it in. When I expressed that I wouldn't know how to do that he immediately offered to follow me to Repco and said he would put the part in for me. He even came into the shop to make sure I got the right part and then put it in the car. NATHAN from RACQ Caloundra area, you are an absolute gentleman and I can't thank you enough for the amazing service.

Two flats out at Somerset fam. Great service from Dave out of kilcoy.
We had two flat tyres at Somerset Dam and needed to be towed to brisbane. Dave from Kilcoy was there within an hour so and was very helpful. He towed us back to Brissy no trouble at all. Couldn’t speak higher of the man.

Don't waste your time
A happy customer of 20+ years. I was met with arrogance and attitude. When I asked the mechanic if he'd completed a brake test he blatantly lied and said he had. There was no mention of the test on the invoice either.

Expensive battery failed just out of warranty period
I have just had the battery replaced in my car by RACQ - at an expense of $215 - an identical model to the last one - RACQ brand, apparently - and labelled as "Premium". Having driven cars for over 30 years I'm a little miffed that the battery failed 2 years 4 months and 13 days after purchase - warranty is 2 years. Looks like I'm not the only one with this complaint - as noted by someone else it feels a bit like being conned by an old friend! Note that the actual roadside assistance was good, it's only the battery that I'm rating.

Replacement batteries
I have been a satisfided member of RACQ roadside assist for many years, until recently.
It is to complicated a story to retell here, however it has left me feeling like I have been conned by an old friend. The experience has made me question remaining a member and the wisdom of ever purchasing a battery from RACQ Roadside Assistance.

Use another service
Purchased a battery from RACQ. It failed a couple of months later. I was told it was my fault and they wouldn't replace it under their warranty. After reading many of the reviews here it appears this is how they operate. Take your money and don't honour the warranties. And don't bother contacting the office of Fair trading. Another government department that does nothing.
