Why is it everytime I do an online quote for RACV home and contents insurance lately a box appears saying I must give at least 1 owners details when I have already put in my own details as the owner???
Considering I am the 1 and only owner, I shouldn't be FORCED into clicking on a box to say there is a 2nd [non-existing owner] just to proceed to the next stage. Out of interest, when I did click on "another owner" [just to move ahead] the quote re-calculates at a higher premium than first one given.
I rang RACV today to rectify the issue and the girl just replied oh it shouldn't do that. When I offered to email the proof to her from my saved quote she wasn't even interested to see it.
Hence I suspect she knows and it's simply just another insurance ploy to raise prices to the dumb consumer.
Oh and btw I did email "care" but received a generic reply saying ring RACV [haha that got nowhere] and now no response whatsoever.
Are all insurance companies deceptive in their dealings?
I am thinking about contacting ACCC as quote does not allow for 1 single owner and quote figures change quite dramatically.

Why does one need to be a member to be able to email RACV?

I just completed the Email Contact Form, hit the submit button and was presented with the error message advising I need to enter a valid membership number. Bit hard to do if you are not a member! An oversight or just discrimination?

Claim ref: RAV 191787499
4 weeks ago I crashed into a car at a Wodonga main road. The other driver was later charged for dangerous driving. As my car was a write off I was soon after contacted by the assessor who told me how much money I could expect for my crashed car. I contacted the office in Melbourne by phone the next day and was told that there might be very small change to the amount given to me by the assessor which was ok with me. Later on I went to our local VIC roads office to get the registration of my crashed car cancelled but was told that I would need a proper statement from the RACV office in order to get the cancellation backdated to the day of the crash. I did asked the RACV office via email for this statement together with my bank details since they asked for them in a email to me some days before.
I have emailed 3 times about that statement and 3 times received I receives a useless non reply message.
I cannot get another car registered on a pensioner registration while my wrecked car is still registered.
For 4 weeks now I haven't had a car to drive, and no answers from RACV. I am very cranky about this, having 4 cars and the house insured and getting treated like poo.

Go through your policy. The RACV will send you a policy if you don't have a copy. The policy should tell you what you are covered for.

Hi Mark. We are sorry to hear that the wrong fuel was used and it destroyed your motor. We have contacted claims and asked what is done in this situation. They advise that we do cover this, however, you will need to pay your excess as this is considered an at fault claim. Please call claims on 13 19 03 to lodge a claim and go through excess payment options. Warm regards, Elise. RACV Social Media Consultant

I have just been to RACV after damaging my car yesterday ( Car versus bollard ) and have been informed that, as I did not have Choice of repairer added (At extra cost )and wish to use our mechanic, they will not pay for ANY repairs and that I either use theirs (Previous bad experience ) or Pay the repairer myself (More than $2000 damage ) My repairer informs me that this is illegal and to go to Ombudsman or Consumer affairs ....What should I do?

2 answers

As far as I am aware it is never illegal to go to the ombudsman that is what they are there for!

RACV
Elise E.RACV

Hi Seddon. We are sorry to hear about your recent accident.

Unfortunately, if you did not have the choice of repairer added to your policy and you've had an accident, we will only repair the cost if you use one of our repairers. They are all authorized and offer a lifetime warranty on all repairs and there are many located across Victoria.

We notified our members between October 2017-October 2018 during renewal that choice of repairer was becoming an additional add on and could choose to add it if you wish.

Should you wish this to be escalated, please call the claims department on 13 1903 and ask to speak with a manager.

Warm regards, Elise Social Media Consultant for RACV

Hi,
I have Third Party Fire and Theft insurance with RACV. A few days ago I had an accident and I am "not at fault". Another driver (I have his Driver license, photos of the scene, his phone...) drove a vehicle of a small business, where he is working for. This vehicle is under the bussiness owner's name and insurance by RACV. This owner did not want to start the claim. He said he did not drive the vehicle, his employee did, not him....the accident was not his fault.... I rang up RACV and they said I have to pay$355 non refundable administration fee if I want them to send a letter to another drive (or maybe his boss, the owner of the vehicle ???). So, what RACV will do for me if I agree to pay this administration fee? Thanks

Can anybody tell me how I can get to speak with a RACV representative?
I have now called 4 times and all I hear is 'we will answer your call as soon as we can' I have now been sat waiting for a total of 50 minutes with no hope of a rep responding.
This is from somebody who isn't even insured with RACV? One of THEIR members backed into my parked car over a month ago! I have been trying to get my car repaired ever since!
Anybody who has anything to do with RACV wants their brains tested. I will make sure that as many people as possible are informed of their total disregard for anybody. Reading the reviews is a real eye opener. Good luck to anybody cosidering these clowns as their insurance supplier!

If a vehicle is not registered under any name but I am still the car owner with the fact I was the last registered driver to the vehicles vincode, can I still covered with storm damage through third party?

1 answer

If the insurance is not under your name, then most likely you will not be able to claim on it. In any case, third party insurance (not sure whether you are referring to Third Party Property Damage or TAC compulsory third party personal injury) does not cover storm damage.
