Sounds like typical Rheem to me. Hopefully they'll cover it under warranty without too much trouble.
For us it's happened on both systems I've owned but we don't know if it was the panels or the tank.
Our first system had a rupture 'somewhere' after 3.5 years, losing all the glycol, but the whole system was replaced under warranty (just had to argue with them and pay a large amount for them to honour it).
The replacement system had a rupture somewhere after 6 years, losing all of the glycol again. The whole system is going to the recyclers after this.

I'm looking in to replacing my 8 year old Edwards L32 Stainless Steel Tank & 2 Australis Solar Panels as the Tank is leaking.
I'm looking at replacing it with a Rheem 52L300 Stainless Steel Tank & 2 Australis 10 solar collectors.
I live in Sydney
On the Rheem website the S.T.C. rebate is $1,150.
My Rheem Franchise supplier/installer has only offered me $900.
His original offer for the S.T.C. rebate was $840 but he changed it to $900 when I queried it.
He said he couldn't give me more because " the STC value as they went down last week in due to too many available in clearing house"
Is the Rheem website figure wrong/not up to date?
Is the amount of the S.T.C. rebate an amount that is at the supplier/installer's discretion?
thank you for taking the time to answer my query.

I just paid a $500.00 deposit to have a 52L300 system installed only to have it removed two months later because of performance issues.
I am now trying to get a refund of my $500.00 deposit to which I've been informed I will not receive because it was my fault the system did not work.
I also have a quote for a little less than $2000.00 to replace the roof sheets that have been damaged.
I would strongly advise against any RHEEM product.

Hi Denise,
In all seriousness I would be more worried about the product you want to purchase before the STC you are entitled to.
Other products offer similar STC rebates, check them out first.
Also if you haven't already done so, you need to reed the reviews on the product you are thinking of purchasing.

My advise, don't go purchase a Rheem product.

I just had a 52L300 system removed after being installed twice, yes twice as they couldn't get it to produce hot water the first time when it was facing west using the supposedly "you bute" Titan collectors.

They decided to move the system onto a north facing roof, then it inconsistently produced water anything from about 40 - 54 degrees.
After my family of five had our "2 minute" showers each night, I would check the water temperature at about 9pm after everyone went to bed and the system would then lose approximately 20 - 25 degrees over night so I would have to run the boost for about three hours in the morning to get hot water again.

That calculated to approximately an extra $2 of cost to me every day. (Approximately another $730/year on top of any system purchase price.)

By the way, we run the washing machine on cold water and our dishwasher produces its own hot water.

Anyway after all that and I had the system removed, the sales rep has told me that I won't get my $500 deposit back because it was our fault we never had enough hot water as we used excessive water (go figure, 5 people each having a two minute shower, the shower heads put out 6 litres per minute = 60 litres) isn't this a 300 litre system?

Also I now have 8 holes in my roof after the two installations and have a quote for a little over $2000 to have the relevant roof sheets replaced. The sales rep didn't give a hoot about this and more or less said "too bad" so this is also going to be at my expense. I will get more quotes but not expecting much difference.

The bottom line "Don't even consider Rheem"

Model 596270 it appears that we only have hot water on sunny days. Think our gas booster isn't working. Unit is 6 years old. Does the unit have a pilot light? The ok monitor doesn't appear to be lit or show any error codes. But I've never taken much notice of this before. Please help!

Sorry, our unit was electric, which had the booster button we had to press and wait for an hour before we had any hot water. It is a known fact by many tradesmen that the solar hot water systems are high maintenance substandard units. We have installed gas and now enjoy hot water for the first time in 12 years all the time, so buyers beware. These systems will cost you thousands in upkeep and water costs.

Thanks so much for getting back to me. So far we've only had one problem with the connectors on the panel and now this. So it's been pretty cheap and our gas bills are next to nothing.

My booster is gas electronic start. Maybe shut it down and give it a reboot. .good luck

Our 3year old rheem premier hiline solar unit has started giving us problems. Seems to be enough hot water in the morning for a few showers, then by the late afternoon water is only lukewarm. Daytime temp. at the moment is around 22deg. and panels have full sun all day. Any ideas?

Hi Lin. Get on to Rheem ASAP.
Our system did the same thing. It was low in glycol, which Rheem kindly topped up for $300, but unfortunately our problem returned within days. According to Rheem it appears the tank has failed, but under their warranty they won't cover labour/anything other than the tank itself so it will now cost us $1400 to resolve it.
If you're still within the 3 years they might still cover the labour if it is a tank failure. Unfortunately for us we're at the 3.5year mark...
