Hello, in recent months I have noticed I have low hot water flow/ pressure in my upstairs shower or bath. I have a Rheem Stellar 330 or 360 and it is very frustrating. All other taps in house are fine. I think the unit is 10 years old.

What is the problem before I go and buy another brand,

Deano.

I have a 2004 Rheem 160litre external gas water heater and have the same popping /rumbling noises when the hot water tap is turned on. It does'nt happen all the time mostly when the hot water tap is first turned on and subsides after 10 or 15 seconds of flow but is getting louder
Had all the valves replaced (As recommended by Rheem) and made no difference.. great way to burn up $450! Was going to replace the heater (with a Dux this time) but another waste of money if it is the plumbing and not the heater
I have no buried cpper pipes and the house plumbing is mostlt that poly pipe. Any clues out there?

Please see my discussion above it is the design deficiency of RHEEM that there is no drain outlet to clean the dirt and scale deposited over time. But if you call them they will charge you for coming and try to sell another part, without accepting the fact that the dirt is blowing above when the water is heated. We need a lawyer to do a class actions. ACCC is useless after the departure of Alan.

Hi Ken, thanks for your response, you are exactly right. The problem was the build up of dirt and scale in the bottom of the heater
Plumber came around in October 2013 as last resort before we bought a new heater, disconnected the plumbing and tipped it on its side where we could flush it out. Plenty of discoloured water and scale came out.
Reassembled the unit and no noise anymore.
Would be nice if the heater unit had an outlet that would make flushing easier.

My new home was ready for occupancy in May 2009. The builder at the time fitted a Rheem Stellar LPG gas hot water unit. Lately there has been a fair bit of trouble with the pilot light playing up on a regular basis. Even when there is next to no wind, the flame goes out. It has reached the point now that we have to roster on for a shower to fire up the pilot light. A gas fitter was called today and stated that the pilot light apparatus was unserviceable and needed replacoing. The question I put forward is the trouble listed covered under warranty.

I have a Rheem Stellar 330 lt was installed in 2001.
Recently I noticed that it is making fairly loud popping noises during the reheating phase after use. There is the usual amount of steam at the vent. There are no external signs of leakage.
Apart from the noises it is functioning normally.
Is it related the cooler weather conditions with temperatures now in the range 10 to 25 deg C or something else?

Hi Hotwaterman. I have the same system and the same popping noise. Did you resolve the issue?

Hotwaterman
Hotwaterman

The outlet copper hot water pipes which were buried in sand (limestone soils) had corroded externally. They were installed 32 years ago (1981). There were several pin hole leaks along the pipe. The adjacent cold water pipe was still in A1 condition. Due to the continual leakage of several liters per hour the hot water system was continually reheating. The low quantity of leakage was not noticed on the 6 monthly water meter usage bills. The rumbling of the hot water system spurred my detailed investigation into the noise which ultimately resulted in the identification of the small but increasing leakage. After replacing all the hot water copper pipes with the pipes now above the ground, the Rheem is operating normally again.
