Yes there is an anode. Manufacturer recommends a major service on the unit every 5 years. At this time they will inspect and if necessary replace it . They also check pilot light, burner etc and replace temp valve and pressure relief valve etc

I installed one of these Rheem stainless steel HWSs in June 2016, all going fine, with a long warranty, but it appears now to have been discontinued. I wonder why, and whether they could honour the warranty if the tank leaked after a few years?

Hi i have a Rheem Stellar unit which was installed August 28th 2015. I didn't move into my new house until November 2015. The pilot light won't stay on. I have contacted Rheem and someone is coming out to service the unit tomorrow. They have advised me that since it was installed in August 2015 i am just shy of the warranty and will have to pay for the call out which i think is a joke as i only moved in, in November (Less than a year operational). Any advice would be appreciated. I am thinking of contacting consumer affairs as well.

Good luck getting RHEEMED to show any compassion. We had proof of phone calls/asking for advice, was told probably wind problem. We to were just out of warranty obviously they are selling poor product. NEXT REPAIR WE HAVE WILL BE RIPPING IT OUT. no prepared to pay $300-$400 for repairs every 2 years or so.,

Dajovic

You should definitely contact consumer affairs. If a gas hot water service cannot last more than a year or maybe 2 or 3 years it is not merchantable quality and as such you are entitled to a repair or replacement. Rheem customer service were no help to me at all, I don't know how they continue to get away with this shoddy treatment.
We will never buy another Rheem product, neither will any family members, or friends.

Hi Khushboo,

Thank you for your detailed response, to my query with the operation of my Rheem Hot Water System.

I do feel a little guilty about bothering you, as after some further investigation late last night, I realised that probably the root cause to my concern was probably the pilot light may have just extinguished.

On checking this morning (between showers), this proved to be the case.

System now operating to my satisfaction.

I guess just moving into this new house and the gas being connected, did not initially consider such a simple resolution, as the gas people had signed of on operation two days earlier!!

Once again sorry for inconveniencing you unnecessarily, and thank you for your intended service back up support.

I had a new Rheem Stellar 360 gas water heated installed in April 2016. I have recently had air or gas building up in my hot water pipes. Hot taps splurt splutter and make explosive noises when turned on. Last week my washing machine " blew up" due to this problem. Hot water put in a clear pint glass looks cloudy with vapour rising and takes a moment to clear.I have called the plumber who installed the unit. He has returned and checked evrything but cannot solve the problem. Any help would be welcome as it is driving me insane!

Thank you. Rheem eventually installed new anodes, the correct ones. They would not, however take resposibility for my exploded washing machine and damaged taps.

Have noted a massive smoke (steam) and water like fountain coming out from the stellar HW system. I checked and water coming out from the pressure relief valve.

I checked Manual and google how to change PR valve, went to hardware and paid $50 for the PRV. I replaced it.

I did light the heater and put to setting 6. Back inside the house, and I said to myself I will let it heat the water for 1.5 hour before I open the hot water taps. When I opened hot water and waited for couple of minutes, water is still cold. I go back to the heater, remove the casing and peeped inside and there is no light at all.

I did the re-lighting three (3) times but to no avail.. so i give up....WHat is wrong? Is it
1. my heater which just turned 10 years old needs replacing
2. because it is raining and cold and a bit of a wind (19 June 2016)
3. or thermo coupler needs replacing?

KIndly help as this is the 2nd night we dont have hot water.

Thanks you

Hello Ador,

Firstly sorry to hear about your major problems with your Rheem Stellar HW unit, l am in the same situation with my Rheem HW unit and my isn't even 2 years old. You mentioned that your unit is about 10 years old, and that you have spent money trying to fix your major issues without any luck ? l would stop spending any more money on it, replace your unit with any other brand except Rheem. Tell any one and every one about Rheem and its product faults, there service officials are not very helpful. Rheem just keep handballing my issues around waiting for me to give up, l have had just over 1000 people view my comments about my Rheem Stellar gas hot water unit from this sight alone. The majority of people who have commented on this sight about Rheem Stellar have the same major problem "Pilot light keeps going out" ????? l am in the process of taking them to consumer affairs. l hope l was off some help or support.

We go away for several months at a time and turn our gas hot water system off so it won't keep reheating. The problem is, it takes forever to relight. This time we arrived home tired from a very long plane trip and all we wanted was a nice hot shower but as usual my husband is out there late at night trying the ignite the system to no avail so we went to bed without a shower. This morning he is back out there and started the system within a few minutes. He didn't do anything differently, it just decided to ignite. Question: how does one start these systems after having them turned off for periods of time?

Hi there! I have a Rheem Stellar (about 5 years old), it doesn't seem to be heating the water very hot. Even if on max setting of 7. When you run water, the burner lights up and heats water - just not getting through to the house (lukewarm at best). Bur if you flush the pressure release valve at side, the water is very hot.

Any suggestions?

I'm not a plumber, so I'm not the best person to answer your question, but at a guess, it sounds like you might be having an issue with the tempering valve. This is the inline valve that mixes cold water at the system outlet so that people inside don't get scalded. They cost a couple of hundred dollars, so if you add the plumber bill to that you're likely to be looking at a $400 bill. At least your water will be hot and you can save some gas by turning the dial down as well.

What is it like at the kitchen sink? They don't usually have the mixer valve there or the laundry as you need hotter water there.

Rheem Stellar dimensions are as follows Height 1630, depth 600 and width 470 without fittings and 630 with fittings, fits perfectly into a Russian bomber to be dropped on an ISIS stronghold, but not much chop as a hot water system, makes noises as if a mad bomber is trying to get out, if you haven’t purchased anything yet think about a Gas instantaneous Rinnai Infinity, does an absolutely brilliant job. I threw my working Stellar in the tip and purchased two Rinnai infinity’s, one upstairs and one down stairs. Rheem will be as handy as a door on a canoe when it comes to your hot water problems.

Your plumber is looking for a few bucks and a quick fix, just check the gas is on at the mains and the unit and persist in the lighting, they can be a Cuxt somtines to light, but if its a stellar HWS get rid of it and buy another make.

Dead right, I persisted trying to light it and sure enough, hey presto, we have hot water now,
I think our LPG isn't very good quality according to gas bottle delivery man, also being inactive for a while seems to make, oven, and BBQ harder to light first time .(I'm no expert )

Get an instantaneous RINNAI, never a problem, also if its a new house put two in, one each side of the house, save all the water waste waiting for hot water to come through and two can shower at the same time without robbing the hot from the other, the stellar is a pig, if there was a outlet right down the bottom of the unit you could empty it out of the impurities that I am told cause all the noise. do what elvis did with his car when he had problems and shoot it.

Just got a Aquamax G340SS (made by Rheem) installed today. On start up, alot of smoke came from the unit smelling like burning rubber/plastic. Customer support advised they only take calls, but technicians will be available on Monday. Whole weekend without hot water. :-( Not happy. You would think it was designed without combustible/flammable material inside. Is there some coating on the tank or burners to prevent corrosion while in storage? Who knows.

Hi Aussie Perth, it is normal for the steam and plastic smell on initial start up as the by-products from manufacturing (glues, paint, etc) dissolve. This should resolve itself once the heater has been functioning for a couple of days.

Thanks Paul. I worked that out the past few days. It's definitely getting lesser as time goes on. Would've been nice if they actually put that information in their owner's manuals.
