Hi, we have a Rinnai REH-301FTB which has been cutting out intermittently - anything from 5 mins through to 30/60 mins operation. It’s not on the auto setting or the timer.
This issue has only been happening over the last 3 days whereas previously we’ve had no issues.
Gas flow (from 45kg bottles) is fine to the stove (which continues to work during the time the heater cuts out).
Appreciate any ideas to overcome the issue.
Thanks

Thanks for the question leep, there can be a number of reasons for the heater to cut out. Was an error code displayed and has the heater been serviced recently? We have a free technical help desk that might be able help troubleshoot and offer some advice.

Heater set on gas econ auto off keeps turning from red light to green . And auto flashing Is this normal?

Elva
Elva

Yes, that is normal for this model. I set mine on gas econ auto off to a couple of degrees higher than what it says the current temp is, eg, first thing in the morning, I boost it from L (which is where I leave it overnight and the temp this morning was 14 on the current temp in the room, we live in a very cold climate, minus 4.2 this morning) to say 18 or 19 and then the current temp starts to rise and will cut out when it reaches the 18 or 19, which is what I will need, as we are going for a max of 9 degrees today and unless I need to make it any warmer, then it will cut in and out during the day from green to red light - I don't normally need to touch it again until I drop it back to L overnight. Hope this helps, it takes a bit longer to get used to than the last model that I had.

Thanks for the question Stacy Pink, error code 61 is listed in the Customer Instruction Guide as combustion fan failure and will require a service call to fix. The instruction booklet is available to download from the Rinnai Australia website :

We hope your plumber has been able to diagnose the issue with the heater.

Thank you. Is Combustion Fan Failure covered by Rinnai please? The plumber that fitted this heater attended today and was not able to fix it. He is going to get the Gas expert to come out. The plumber will be sending me a Service Call account and so will the Gas repair man. Will Rinnai cover these expenses? Thank you Stacy

We have a problem with continually experiencing error 61 on our Ultima ll inbuilt heater. This heater was purchased in 2008 and has been continually serviced the last time being April 2016. Before this service we had not experienced any difficulties at all with the heater and were pleased with its performance. Since this latest service the error 61 light has been coming on a number of times. What is the problem? Steven

Thanks for your question Roan, error 61 can indicated a problem with the combustion fan. We would recommend having the heater checked to see if the fan has been installed back in the heater correctly, or the fan may need to be replaced.

Steven I can only tell you that when Code 61 flashes it means Combustion Fan failure and you need to call a service person. I would be calling the company that did your service pronto !!!

Ultima II Inbuilt

Hello, I bought a Rinnai Ultima II a couple of years back now, but every winter for the last couple we have to deal with the flashing red LED and error code 90. We usually deal with it by turning the heater off, letting it cool down a bit and turning it back on . This usually works but some times it will keep failing. I am looking for a permanent solution, does anyone have any suggestions on how to overcome this? For the rest of it, it does a great job keeping the house warm and cosy.
Thanks

Thanks for the question Rad. Has the heater been serviced in the last 2 years? We recommend regular servicing for all gas appliances to make sure they are running safely and efficiently. Error code 90 is a safety cut out and can indicate an issue with the flue. We would recommend having a service call to check the issue. You can book with our 1st Care Team on 1300 555 545 or through our online booking service on the Rinnai Australia website: http://www.rinnai.com.au/support-resources/online-service-booking/

Take the face off the heater. instruction manual shows how. Find the flame reader rod/thermostat, bottom left. Use a thin file to get to it, file off the built up carbon, which insulated and stops the flame from registering. Then vaccum all vents and inlets. I have to do this every season for it to work properly. computerized heaters are too sensitive. Ultima ll is a piece of pop
for this reason. A real let down from a highly regarded manufacturer.

Thanks for the question Max, error code 70 usually indicates a fault with the on and off switch. This error will require a service call for the heater to identify and diagnose what is causing this cut out. Mary Lowe
Mary Lowe

Hello Tom, error 61 is a failure with the combustion fan and you need a service call, according to the manual. Hope it's not a new heater and certainly worth checking on your Warranty ! Good luck with that, hope you have better luck than I did . Mary

Rinnai
Rinnai A.Rinnai

Thanks for the question Tom, as Mary has advised error 61 is a combustion fan failure alert and will require a service call to diagnose and repair if necessary.

I too have an error 61 - May/June 2015. Technician came out and serviced the heater and reported to me that water is getting in through our chimney. Re-cement the top of the chimney - which my Husband did. It worked intermittently and the Tech came out again and suggested we pull the cladding off the chimney and repaint it- it's not drawing properly! Why would this happen all of a sudden with not one problem in the previous 18 months of having a new heater? It then stopped working altogether. It actually started for one hour last week and that's all. So here I am with an expensive heater that hasn't worked since this time last year because I'm stuck between a Tech and a Husband who doesn't believe a word of what he is saying. Can someone please advise me?

The solution provided for a Code 12 error is to relight the heater. Fine, it relights every time. What is the solution for a code 12 error that occurs 6-8 times a day? This is a product fault, it happened last winter too. Some part had to be cleaned, but I don't know what - might be a service secret. At a couple of hundred dollars a visit, we wouldn't want to tell anyone how to fix this.

Thanks for the queston John K, we are sorry to hear you're having issues with your Rinnai Ultima II, can you please contact us at [email protected] mentioning this review and we will contact you to discuss further. We do recommend having the heater serviced every 2 years to clean and check the unit is working as it should.

I was finally desperate enough to call Rinnai - they were actually very helpful, and fixed it free of charge. It has been fine since. It does look as though we'll have to pay to get the heater cleaned and serviced every year or two, which is unfortunate, but bearable, once you know that's all it needs, and you can sort of schedule it. Thank you for your enquiry, has the heater been serviced recently? We do recommend with any gas heater that they are cleaned and serviced every 2 years to ensure optimum safety and performance. Error code 12 can indicate a gas issue, check the gas is switched on, turn the heater off and on again. If the heater fails to ignite after 4 attempts a service call will be required. You can arrange this through our service team on 1300 555 545 or an online booking via the Rinnai Australia website www.rinnai.com.au
