Comprehensive, Comprehensive Plus, Third Party Property Damage, etc...Car claims not handled well and valuer don’t do their job.
The car was damaged and hence sent to sgic recommended garage for repairs. One after another damages was done to the car and the insurance did not fix up the things for ignition system that was locked due to improper handling at the repair workshop. The valuer did not turn up for inspection and has sent a report based on feedback he has taken over phone from the garage owner favouring what the garage owner has interpreted to him and I was not part of this discussion even though I had requested my presence during inspection. ice has rejected the claims favouring the garage owner for his wrong doings and my car premiums for eight months at 100 dollars per month was deducted from my bank account while the car was still in garage and I had to incur an additional 2400 dollars to get this car back into driving condition. The garage owner made a counter offer to sell the car to him for 500 dollars as he could sell the wrecked parts for more than 10k. A very tactful and made for each other business in auto industry and I do not recommend sgic and I am cancelling all my insurances with them.

Poor customer service
I also have a bad experience with sgic motor claim. The accident happened 2 weeks ago. I put in my claim online and called the call centre the next day to confirm all my claim details. Didn’t hear from them for a week so I rang back and found out that NOTHING has been done. I got put on hold for half an hr while the person called my towing company. When he returned to me he said he is now organising my car to be towed to one of their repairer. 10 minutes later I got another phone call and a different person told me that they will now tow my car...Read more
to their depot not the repairer and said my car is a write- off. I got given the towing company phone number to organise collecting my personal belongings from my car. The towing company also said my car is a write off and is therefore will be towed to insurances depot. One week went by and today I rang to ask what is happening. The lady on the phone said that my car has now been moved from their depot to the repairer. So in total of the last two weeks, my car has been moved from east to north east to north then to south east of Adelaide and nothing has been done. This is wasting of time and to top it off, the last person I talked to on the phone was not friendly and cold. I am very frustrated like the other people on this web. This is a disappointing claiming experience. Cheaper price in 2012 to join. Now it is just similar price to other companies but this poor customer service has put me off and will definitely pull this pin and change my other car insurance to somewhere else.4 comments

Very unreasonable company
First of all, I've been a SGIC customer for 6 years. Luckily, I never need to put through a claim until now. I have a full comprehensive insurance policy.
I personally witnessed someone scraped the paint of my parked car. I supplied the perpetrator's details and contact information.
The perpetrator denied of responsibility. Now SGIC simply bounced the fault back on me, so I have to bear the cost of the repair.

If this doesn't get resolved, I will cancel all my policy with them and take up insurance with their competitor Budget Direct, which seems to have better review. We are not the police and we are not the government we have no authority to make someone accept responsibility for a claim. If the person is refusing to accept liability then they have vandalised your car and you would need to report this to the police so they can investigate and force the other person to accept responsibility if the police are not able to help you would then take the person who damaged your car to court and sue them for the costs involved. The court and the police are the only people who can force fault onto another person we can not do that so if someone refuses to accept fault we must seek the funds from the insured or you must seek assistance from the authorities who can make the other person take responsibility.Similar opinion? 22% increase
we have 5 policies with them for over 5 years, never had a claim, hit with 22% increase for one vehicle, and 23% increase for another this year. not good, not happy, getting quotes from other insurer.

cross the country due to the severity of weather events of recent years, for example many local councils have had to look at their flood data and classify themselves as flood zones where previosly they would not have been. I am more than frustrated, I am seething with the lack care and respect that these customer reps (c.r's) show. It does not matter who you are or where you live a rude arrogant person is that same world wide and in this case not in Australia. Just wanted my windscreen replaced and it didn't happen, yet, some one with SGIC in Aus just HELP!!!!!! .Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. The more bad reviews SGIC get the quicker they might get the message and fix the problems. Satisfaction level of ZERO. If this is not fixed all my insurance will be moved...

Good Car Insurance
I had an accident in 2016 that was my fault. SGIC really looked after me and repaired car to my complete satisfaction at their preferred repairer.
Customer support was excellent and policy value for money. Only one criticism, I want to list my partner as listed driver even though she infrequently drives the car, but no option for that and increases premium by about 10% if I list her.

Online claim was a breeze
I have been with SGIC for years and I was involved in a non-at-fault claim. IT was generally very easy to lodge the claim online (upload pics etc) and as my vehicle was written off I had the money in my account in about 2 weeks. However, this wasn't without hiccups, the staff members handling my claim did not even bother to look at the photos I uploaded including invoices of the baby seat which I claimed for as well as other personal items. Only when I told them about it they went back and checked and paid me the correct amount.

Poor Service
Having been insured with SGIC (home, contents,and motor vehicle)for MANY years with no claims, the time came to make a motor claim, when I was hit (not my fault)......what a hassle!!!! Offshore agents who were clearly unable to understand me (nor I them)...and then they wanted to impose a $500 excess on me.....when the accident was the other parties fault...Eventually, that was sorted after many phone calls.....Now I await, a refund for the hire car i needed while the repairs were done.... This company is very quick to TAKE your money, but when it comes to claiming, watch out!!! Cancelled all policies and transferred to RAA........local support and no offshore agents!!!

Increasing Policy costs every year
They suck you in with competitive prices on their policy when you first sign up but then every year after they just keep increasing the cost of the policy. No claims made so there is no reason to increase it over $100 every year. Disappointed!

of them, but other factors would include the age of the vehicle, the statistical data about accidents that have occurred in that vehicle as well as environmental factors to name just a few. The main one that impacts the price of a policy from year to year though is the vehicle data, as a vehicle gets older more of them are on the road and more accidents occur in that specific vehicle, although these claims were not made by you as insurance is based on statistics it certainly does affect the cost of insurance for every person who has the same time of vehicle. Deplorable customer care!
No ....customer support offshore is deplorable ! Rude ...arrogant ...patronising ...If you asked a question not on their script you just receive a repeat response of one of the other questions I had to follow up the other insurer as well ....I rate SGIC motor claim customer care support offshore as the WORST I have ever experienced. Taking my money for the policy I had good friendly advice and pleasant to deal with... not the same service when you have accident and you are not at fault.

What's worse than terrible? SGIC!
Blamed me for not linking my policies (when I have no access to their CRM), failed to provide a discount, set up direct debit incorrectly for 1 policy which caused it to cancel. Wouldn't re-set the policy at the same amount. I was promised a call back but didn't receive one.

Competitive premiums but I haven't needed to claim yet!
We've been with SGIC for some years because the premiums are competitive. Recently arranged comprehensive insurance for a 'new' car and changed an old car from comp to 3rd party, fire and theft. It took an hour on the telephone! The telephone line was bad and the service person's headset was malfunctioning. Lots of background noise. Also she was having trouble with the computer system and repeatedly needed to enter information multiple times. I think some investment in better telephone and computer systems is needed.
Mind you, when I called other insurance companies for quotes (a few years ago) they were almost as bad.

Don’t insure with sgic unless you want to be fleeced
Disgusting service after 18 years of loyalty and multiple policies. I have cancelled everything and insured elsewhere. Premiums increase every year by hundreds of dollars. Call centers offshore give you the run around.
Ring around you will find better policies elsewhere!

In terms of policy pricing, that was not my primary concern - although the value is very good for what I have cover for. I set my policies up years ago, both by phone and online. Both were very easy. The cover options are very clear, and well explained, and well worth the choosing. With the few times that I have had to seek assistance from their customer support team, whether it was through email or through their live-chat process, the process was explained in great detail, and the outcome was resolved very quickly.

the company does not support uber eats drivers for car insurance but it does cover you for uber witch in my opinion all insurance company's should cover all types of insurance its not that difficult to do so why make it so hard to get insurance

Doesn’t matter you had accidents or not the insure amount keep going up. Bad services. I had insured my house and 3 cars comprehensive with Sgic for over 10 years, hardly make claim. y do not allow me choose my own and keep force me send my car to RPM para hills. I had to drive there ( 1/2 hour from my house ) for assessment and book for fix 3 weeks from that day. Start from Monday 5/2/18 to Friday 9/2/18. On Thursday afternoon I got a message from RPM para hills said everything on times, pick up tomorrow. Then Friday they call me to come and pick up my car ( 2 year old Mitsubishi Lancer ) at 5.15pm and they are close at 5pm !!! And also the car is not finish, they order the wrong part. Traffic jam, take me 45 minutes to get there, cost exactly $50 for taxi . Force to drive my unfinished car home and also pay $1000 excess ( 2 claims ) and promised that as soon as the part come in they will call me, they only need my car for 1 hour to put in the rest of the parts . Now 18/3/18 I still drive an unfinish new car,,, I call SGIC claim department, not help much, then call RPM para hills, they got parts but busy and book me in for 4/4/18 8.00am to 5pm. The 2 claims parts and labour cost total only $3700 then take $1000 ( my excess), every year I had to pay them almost $3000 for my house and 3 cars, and hardly claim anything, now I need them to fix my car, they hassle me, cost me to much times. It about times I need to change my insurance. SGIC insurance is not what it used to be . Very bad now, very bad.1 comment
