The policy for my Permanent on site caravan was set up really quickly. The van is older than 30 years and other insurance companies wouldn't even continue the conversation once they heard this.

Be careful of the fine print they don't show you.
Have been with SGIC for over 7 years and never had to make a claim until now. My wife was hit from behind while stopped so not her fault. Once car was written off took off the reminder of the years policy off the pay out for the write off. Because we were 3 weeks in to a new policy this was $615. This action is not on my paperwork and was never discussed when I got my policy in person. So much for loyalty.

SGIC is horrible. Don't bother calling them.
I have had two comprehensive car insurance policies with SGIC for a few years. Recently, I rang them up to organise for my newly purchased car. I had to ring them up twice for a quote. Each time they answered like I just called a total stranger. They don't know what they were talking about over the phone and I couldn't understand them. They had extremely poor communication skills. idn't have a clue about my existing policies and the new quote. The whole experience was so bad and confusing and I ended up cancelling one existing policy and the new quote. I will cancel my last policy very soon as well. I have changed my comprehensive insurances to AAMI. They are much more professional and helpful. I won't be dealing with SGIC again in the future. Too bad for them, they have lost about $2000 business. If you are thinking of ringing SGIC, don't. Save yourselves time and troubles, try someone else.

Could be better
The policy was originally set up as an agreed value but on renewal the value of the car had depreciated 25% without my verbal consent and or without conversation. I believe all customers should be contacted to have that conversation re premium cover or not have the “agreed” value altered

No ‘technical difficulties’
I’m happy with the deal. Best price I could find. Call centre person was great. Very easy to talk with. However, I couldn’t complete my online order due to ‘technical difficulties’. This is their way of forcing people into the phone for an up-sell. I’m fine with that but it’s not technical difficulties. I believed it and thought I had an actual problem. It’s disappointing.

Given a quote that doesn’t work
Given a quote number that didn’t work. Spoke to a customer service for over 30 mins, requested a call back, I did not get a call back later that day. It was unreliable and not a good experience.

Phone Contact
Given wrong information and had to make a Police report after being notified by Police.
Made several phone calls to give Police's information and gave up as the wait on each phone call was over 20 minutes. When contact was made, transfer to another person to assist the call dropped out so another call had to be made. One staff member stated my licence had expired which was not so. The phone service was either very good or dreadful.
However the car repair was excellent

We've got 2 homes with house and content insurance with them as well 2 vehicle insurance and one of our children has also insurance with them. ever ever recommend them. The Electrician came and did an assessment and photos were done. All they say sorry MAM OR MADAM we have not received anything as yet and the written assessment by electrician was not good enough. Excuses and more excuses is all SGIC give. So many customers have complained about the overseas calls. For the sake of saving the mighty dollar SGIC are going to lose so many customers and others that I know and have spoken to. They're absolutely pathetic. They're quick to take our insurance payments but not quick to act on claims. All we can say is never insure with them. Worst ever insurers. Will not even return calls. Policies are not competitive. SGIC does not value their clients.
SGIC have tested my loyalty and my patience. I estimate that their premiums are 30% higher than market. The Service desk needs better training as representatives clearly do not understand their products.

Worst Car incurance company
I have a comprehensive insurance with SGIC since 2016. My new agreement started 13 May 2017 with a market value of $2400 on my Toyota Echo 2000 car. On 25th November I hit my car to a post. I placed a claim with my insurance company and took the car to one their suggested repairers, RPM. I was shocked when they said the cost of repairing my car is $4.5k therefore they are not willing to repair it and are going to write off the car. I have accepted to receive the market value although it was much less than what I have paid for my car. No one has...Read more
mentioned anything about some deduction from the market value when I agreed with writing off my car. I have been told that I just need to collect my stuff and plate number from the repairer and their finance department will contact me later. 2 days later I have called to chase up my claim. I have been told that there are 3 deductions from the market value of my car. One is the excess value, the other one I can’t remember what she called it, and the third one was around $60, which I can claim it back when I give my plates to service SA. At the end, I receive around $1200 back. Since I was not happy with the money they are paying me, I requested to have my car back instead. They said it is too late, it has been written off and my contract is ended. The reason I am not happy which this amount is that it is not mentioned in the contract nor over the phone that there will be these deductions from the market value of my car prior agreeing with writing off my car. As far as I investigated from friends with same experience, I have been informed that if the insurance company is not repairing my car they must pay my car value in full. I have tried to solve this problem with them over the phone, I have even spoken with one of their managers who didnt show any care about my compaim and all he told me was that this is what I have agreed to which I didn’t.. Moved to one of the most prestigious beachside suburb in the state in which I live and when a rang to change my details, SGIC put my premiums up by 10% without an appropriate reason. Before making the phone call I had completed an online quote in which is showed me that my premiums should have only been 2/3 of what I was paying originally. Great result but it took forever
Great Product. However had to ring the call centre four times and spent a total of two hours on the phone before I was properly assisted. Would be great to ring someone local who could understand Australian products (motorhomes)

Worst experience ever
Bullied me into accepting their preferred repairer for hail damage, insisted repairer fix my Mercedes bumper bar damage with filler which disintegrated after a year and put reconditioned door on husbands new 1 year old Mercedes and tried to hide it from us.

watch you premiums go up!
Every year I've been with them, they keep trying to hike their premiums up by about 20% and increase excesses. Should not have to ring them and then only get down to about 11%. No claims but they keep whacking me. Shop elsewhere. That is what I am going to do.

Worst insurance ever
After a disappointing claim result I found out that they were more expensive than the others. The claim experience was terrible. Took no care. Made me feel terrible. Rude customer service .
