Hwr202asked
The water runs through my machine fine and I’ve descaled it and cleaned the filter. However, when I press the double cup button the water stops flowing sooner than it should, putting out only half the amount expected. This is a sudden and new fault. The single cup button appears to put out the correct amount. Smeg’s response was that the machine is irreparable and should be just thrown away but this seems too extreme for a machine which mostly works fine. Please advise?

Hi Hwr202,
There isn't a fault with your machine. You will need to reprogram the amount of water for the 2 cup button. To do this, place the cup/cups under the spout. Press and hold down the 2 cup button and only release it once you have the correct amount of water in the cups. The new amount of water is now memorised.

Victor McGowanasked
Hi,
The machine works fine when I make a coffee and then press the steamer button to froth the milk. However after I use the steamer for the milk, I am unable to make another coffee as the two espressos frantically blink. I can only make another coffee unless I turn the machine off and on again.
Is this a fault in the machine as I have only had it 4 weeks?
Victor

Hi Victor - refer to page 7 of the manual under cleaning and care - how to cool down the boiler - this should answer your query.
Nicola1983asked
Hi there
My Smeg coffee machine is around 2 years old
The steam button regularly turns orange & I descale accordingly. However this time the steam button is flashing orange? I can’t seem to get past it, for example pressing the steam button for 10 seconds is not activating descaling as it normally does. The steam wand won’t work at all while it’s flashing, however the espresso does still pour.
Thanks in advance Nicola

When frothing milk,it appears as though the steam lever has to be engaged to the full extent. This also allows water to mix with the milk. Is this the correct way to froth the milk.
1 answer
Rodney M.Smeg
Hi Bruce B,
Have you pressed the steam button and waiting for the light to remain lit prior to engaging the steam lever? If you don't press the steam button, the steam wand will just dispense hot water and not steam. Please refer to your instruction manual for further information.

Hi
I bought the machine just under a year ago and it asked me to descale at 6 months which I thought was normal. However, it asked me to descale again 2 months later which I did but the orange blinking steam light hasn't gone away. I even did an extra rinse cycle. I dont make coffee everyday.
What could be the issue?
Thanks

Rodney M.Smeg
Hi Shivam N.,
Thank you for your enquiry. Have you adjusted the water hardness to the correct level? For most parts of Australia, we recommend setting the hardness setting for soft water. We would recommend running a 'dummy' descale program with just water to see if it resets the light. If you require any further assistance, please call our Customer Service Team on 02 8667 4888

Stuck on/off switch
Hello Smeg, the on/off switch of my ECF01 has over the past months become harder and harder to depress on or off. It feels like it is catching on something and be held about halfway to the point now I never know whether the machine is on or off. Unable to take the base off to see what the problem is because of the unique type of screw heads used. Nothing has been spilt around the switch that may have clogged it up. Can you please help. Thank you

there is a problem with first time use: i am on my third smeg espresso machine now, the first two ruined when i followed instruction manuel exactly. the instructions read: "pull lever down and fill 1/2 cup water then put lever back" that is the first thing to do however, when i pull the lever down, the machine starts kicking making a loud noise and then all three lights start flashing. this seems to have wrecked the fist two machines and now i have a third and don't want a repeat of this issue. question: how do i get around wrecking this machine?

Kayla C.asked
Hi! I just bought my espresso machine this week. I can’t figure out how to stop water coming out from the steam wand/milk frother. I currently turn the machine on, make my espresso and then move to frothing the milk. The directions say to let out 1/2 cup of water but I am running through my entire tank of water waiting for the wand to stop spouting water and start producing steam. Any help would be appreciated? :)

Rodney M.Smeg
Hi Kayla, before you move to frothing milk you need to press the steam button. Once the light no longer flashes you can turn the level to froth your milk. Please refer to the chapter making a cappuccino in the manual. If you want to prepare more coffees afterwards you need to bring the temperature of the boiler back down. The manual explains this as well.
Hope this helps

Smeg
Hi! Thank you so much for your help, I read the manual a few times but missed that. I appreciate your quick feedback, it is working perfectly. :D
Suzi Hasked
Hi,
We purchased our machine 3 weeks ago and use it daily (approx. 4 cups a day). The steam wand is flashing orange. This seems very soon for needing descaling. How frequently is normal?
Also I have leftover descaler from my old Delonghi pod machine, can I use this?
1 answer
Steve C.Smeg
Hi Suzi H,
It really depends on how much you use it and also if the water hardness is set to the hardest setting, it can cause the light to come on quicker.

Hi, we have run several descaling cycles through our machine as per the instructions yet the orange light for the wand continues to flash. Do you have any other suggestions?
2 answers
Hi, I had the same problem. I kept going through the descaling cycle, reusing the descaling solution until the orange light stopped showing. Took me a couple of hours off and on to do this but it is fine now. Still making great coffee.
Thanks for your response Helen! I'll give it a go.

Hi,
After prepping an espresso or milky coffee the cup lights flash from 2 - 10 minutes before we can prep another coffee.
Any advice please?
Thanks

Rodney M.Smeg
Hi MikeD,
When you finish frothing milk, place an empty jug under the spout and bring the lever forward, hot water will stop coming out as soon as the boiler has cooled down. Return the lever to the upright position and you can make further coffees.
For further information, please refer to your instruction manual, Chapter 3.7 How to cool down the boiler.
Regards
Smeg
We experienced the same and the SMEG team answer solved it. Just for clarification, after you finish frothing the milk put the lever in the up position, press the steam button (turning the light off) then place the wand in an empty cup then pull the lever forward. Keep the lever in the down position until steam no longer comes out and it is just water. Once this happens you'll see that both cup lights stop blinking and you're ready for another delicious cup of coffee.

Is this machine capable of producing steamed milk for latte art?
2 answers
Yes it produces great frothy milk. Is it suitable for art nonidea sorry.
Lesley R.Smeg
Good Morning Celticcallum. My name is Steve Cullen and I am the National Service and Spare Parts Manager for Smeg Australia, I wish to advise that Yes, this machine does produce a beautiful crema for your lattes. Remember the first step to getting your "canvas" right for your latte art is to have the perfect crema, I am sure that this machine will not let you down. Also, another tip is to remember that you need to be mindful of the height, position, and flow when pouring your steamed milk. Let us know how you go!, if you have any further queries, please email me direct : [email protected] - Regards, Steve Cullen

Is there a longer steam wand available? I would like to prep milk in a larger jug in order to make more coffees in one go.

Cawfeeasked
Hello, just bought our coffee machine and really can't understand the instructions. We're trying to set the water temperature to the highest setting but don't know if we've actually done that. We can get into the programme mode but then what do you do?? According to the 'manual' 3 lights on means that's the highest temp but only two lights are on after we think we've set it. Please help!
1 answer
Steve C.Smeg
Hi Cawfee,
After turning the machine on, wait for the lights to stop flashing. Next you need to access the menu by holding down the steam button for 10 seconds until the lights start flashing.
To change the temperature, press the single coffee button. The lights for the current setting should flash ( i.e single coffee button is low temp).
For high temp, press the steam button, then the single coffee button will flash to indicate selection has been sorted.
