Best looking toaster

I was hesitant about buying such an expensive toaster but I am very happy about the look and performance. I love the long slots to fit in odd shaped bread. I like how the dial accurately clicks onto the desired setting I haven't had the toaster long so can't comment on long term reliability.

Very Disappointed

Bought this and matching kettle from Harvey Norman. The kettle was replaced within 2 months due to a faulty lid, now the toaster is only toasting on one side. For the price of the kettle and toaster I would expect that this would have lasted more than 14 months, just outside the warranty period. :(

I tried four toasters from cheapest to most. expensive None worked perfectly.i sent all back and decided to try Smeg as it looked so lovely. I loved the look of the pale blue smeg but it has never worked perfectly and now only seems to toast 1 side. It's about 2 years old now and at least it hasn't sparked or stopped working completely.i have to watch it and turn it and never know if it will suddenly burn the bread black. how come we can send a man to the moon but can't make a toaster work? I'm heartbroken as I love a beautiful kitchen appliance. I'd love a matching toaster but don't dare try one. I can't remember when I got it.

Great toaster

We purchase this and matching kettle for new kitchen over 12 months ago. While it is not a cheap product but it fits in with and works better than previous toasters we have owned.

No issues with toasting bread or crumpets and defrost mode works great on frozen bread.

We redeemed our Qantas reward points for the Smeg black 4 slice toaster, as previous reviews mentioned great looking toaster and worked famously for 6 months, then arced and end of that toaster, Qantas Store kindly replaced as still under warranty. 2nd smeg toaster again same as before, great looking working well receive this toaster in April 2017 this morning arced and now no longer working.

Very disappointed - didn't last as long as a $30 toaster

Looks lovely but think twice about buying a toaster or small appliance from Smeg. It lasted 14 months and now it's dead, toast won't stay down unless held manually. Disappointing at this price to see such terrible reliability and build quality - I've had $30 toasters that have lasted literally five times longer. Have a number of large Smeg appliances (cooktop, oven, dishwasher) all of which are excellent - but it would appear that the Smeg brand isn't the promise of quality it once was.

Very short life span

We bought the 2-slice version and it lasted just over a year before the internal heaters stopped working. The new 4-slice bought in April 2017 stopped working after less than a month of use. While these toasters look fantastic, they are clearly not built to last. Particularly disappointing at their price point.

Disappointing - planned obsolescence?

I loved this loved this toaster when I purchased it, but after just over a year (and conveniently, just after it was out of warranty) it now only toasts on one side. I have to stop and turn the toast over for even toasting. Not what I expected for a two hundred dollar price tag. Not impressed Smeg!

Beware of Sparks - Terrible Toaster

We have had the Smeg black, 4 slice toaster for less than 2 years and it has sparked and will now only toast one side. The product was purchased from Harvey Norman and looked great, but the performance is terrible. You pay a premium price and get less than adequate performance.

Love the look of this toaster. It's great too. Roasts evenly. kind of dries the bread out a bit but nothing too bad. The only thing I wish it did was beep when finished although I think it's personal preference for that. I just forget I have toast going and so I end up spreading butter on cold toast

Extremely disappointed

My daughter purchased this red Smeg toaster for me as a Christmas gift. I was so happy with the design and the red colour. After barely a year, the thermostat appears to have failed and the toaster does not 'toast' properly. You need to warm it up first and then put the toast in and you may then get something acceptable. Given how expensive the Smeg brand is, I expected top quality and top performance. I am so disappointed not only for myself but for my daughter who thought she was giving me something special. I will not be purchasing, or recommending, Smeg appliances after this very disappointing experience.

Hello Gizelle,
There is a 12 month replacement warranty on this product. You can return it back to the store of purchase with a copy of your receipt and they will replace this product for you as it is still inside the warranty period.

I have had my Toaster for over a Year now and she is still going well and does not let me down I am Happy to report ... I use Gluten Free Bread and she does it well and I love when she tosses out the smaller pieces and they land on the plate ... (just a cute trick that amuses me) at least I don’t have to dig out the smaller breads like in the past the spring is great, I selfishly leave her on a high setting for my funky Breads and She copes with it all, ....Easy to keep clean, crumb tray is good .

Terrible toaster - nothing but problems

This is the worst toaster we have ever had. You would think with a price tag of almost $200 it would be great but we have had nothing but problems. Have had it about 6 months and its awful. Never consistent with the browning - you can put the bread in in one instance on level 3, and have it toast a tiny bit one day - and the next day same toast same setting and its burnt. Its a bit like a surprise really - you never know how the toast is going to come out even though you use the same setting. Another thing that has just occurred in the last couple of days is the cancel button doesn't do anything anymore - have to turn it off at the power point to get the toast to pop up when you want it to stop. Very disappointing.

Awesome retro stile, perfect in red

Another retro offering from smeg and in my opinion one of there best and definitely the best looking toaster. Nothing bad about this item that we have noticed. The height that it lifts the toast is the highest of all the toasters presently available. This in itself is a big winner as with our last couple of toasters we got sick of fishing out the smaller slices of bread e.g, gluten free bread. Well done smeg.

Is there a way to adjust the spring on the eject mechanism as it seems all these throw the toast out onto the bench and floor. I have put a rubber band (I had to experiment to find one which worked) around the eject lever and under the timer knob, which works as a temporary fix. It also is very slow, but we can live with that.

I have the long slot Smeg toaster. I would not recommend it to anyone. The long slot is the unit’s only redeeming feature. It’s a
cheap and nasty product pretending to be executive end, with its high end price. My expectations weren’t high, after all it’s only a toaster, but I feel this piece of junk was a huge disappointment. See what else you can find, Theresa.
