Terrible stereo can only be paired to 1 phone!
The vehicle is a good solid ride. People who want to spice it up and select sports mode, or switch to economy mode, there is none of that. Put it in drive and there is only one setting. The stock tyres Geolanders seemed to generate a bit of road noise. The biggest annoyance is the stereo. It is crazy hard to setup and pair bluetooth and the system only has room to store one phone. The bluetooth always disconnects 5 minutes into the drive but switching off the stereo and doing some random things seems to reconnect it. Thank goodness it is relatively easy to replace it really is well below expectations from a modern vehicle.

Very Disappointed !
Extremely disappointed after purchasing new XT Premium 2016 model.
Very very annoying CVT transmission, jerky, you cant able to control the slow speed.
Very very bad steering and poor handling, have to hold steering with both hands all the times because it always shaky.
Bad Fuel economy
Bad road control, vehicle shakes alot on highways.
Sat NAV is totally useless
Herman Cardin speakers are not impressive, it sounds like pretty standard speakers.

Perfect car for everyday.
I love my forester. I purchased it just under 1year ago and I couldn't be happier. Previously I owned and Mitsubishi outlander, I wasn't never 100% happy with it but I have now found my perfect car. It has got everything I have wanted in my car and I and able to use it for my daily drive as well as taking it camping and fishing in the weekend with my major adjustment. The biggest down fall would have to be the fact that it has Pandora installed but is no longer available in Australia and no way of removing it or adding other apps to replace it. I have also be unable to sync my new phone to the Bluetooth system which is a huge inconvenience for me, as I spend a lot of time in my car daily.

Great car, love it, paid 37k for a car that we thought would last 10 to 15 years or at least 150k . but at 12k had to have a new motor fitted due to failed main bearings. At 0k we complained that the new motor sounded like the old one, at 34k another new motor, failed main bearings, cams and supports, Now number 3 new motor at 0km make same bottom end rattle as the other 2, glad for the 5 year warranty but what happens when that runs out, CVT trans has a lot to be desired as wll, slow shifting from R to D, lurching at lite throttle, will never buy another Subaru

MY18 Forester XT - best decision ever
With Bub arriving, it was time for an upgrade. This was the best decision ever. The seats are really comfortable, especially sitting at the back with Bub. I am easily car sick and the forester was sturdy enough for me that I wouldn’t be sick in the back even if I was travelling for an hour. Favourite features are the front arm rest in the middle, leg room at the back, and keyless lock and unlock technology.
Only negative I can say is the GPS isn’t great and sometimes gives a route that doesn’t make sense. Otherwise we’re very happy

Designed by gen. X or Y
Shiny aircon outlets on dashboard, reflect into rear-view mirrors creating glare. Constant false alarms with lane keeping & auto braking. Offside interior trim prevented foot coming off accelerator. Radio settings disappear without human intervention. Salesman couldn't tie cellphone into vehicle's Bluetooth. Auto engine stop when at traffic lights etc would drive anyone mad. Very poor instruction book; ambiguous & terrible grammar. Unreadable on important points & items. Jacking point is not where indicated in the book. Wheels often take in fa...Read more

Perfect family car
This is probably the best car i have owned and i look forward to upgrading to the next model when its time.
The design maximizes the interior space with the rear seats folding completely flat. The design is comfortable and practical for our outdoor lifestyle and kids. Having a shorter wheel base makes it easy to park and drive in the city.
There is plenty of safety features and tech that I need. As for fuel. It's very efficient.

This car is everything I was looking for !
Stability of this car is very good especially when it is raining or when the roads are rough.
From the driver's seat, visibility is good for almost 360 degrees ! I love that. No other cars in this category can give so much visibility. Many other brands in this category have a hatch back window which restricts the rear visibility.
Running costs are very reasonable !

Great car but technology is not simple.
Unless you are good with technology and are a quick learner this car may not be for you. It can be very helpful if you understand what you're doing with the car, but to be honest it can be a pain in the back if you are not to switched on with the smaller details of the car. Still happy with the car but also learning new things about it everyday!

2016 great improvement over 2010
We were happy with our old 2010 Forester. But somebody smashed it resulting in write off early in 2016. So we had urgently to replace. Insurance (RACQI) gave us a a good payout. Hoped to buy a slightly used model but they were almost as expensive as a new one. We managed to order one to be delivered off the boat, a fresh 2016 2.5Si. We had to accept the CVT transmission as our other must haves of leather, sun roof and max safety gear were only available in this model.
Its a great advancement the old 2010 which was manual and lacked all techno...Read more

My ultimate car!
Living in Sydney and being someone who loves to get out in the wilderness and explore I needed a car that was going to cater for both! I've found that car in my Forester XT. Such a spacious, well designed and reliable car. Small enough to navigate through narrow Sydney streets but gutsy enough to go a little off road and get me to where I need to go!

What a great car so solid, just watch out the doors open really wide and can bang into other parked
Driving experience - this car is far Superior then our old Ford Escape, it drives smoothly and is higher off the floor so you can see further ahead, which gives you better ability to predict the traffic.
Just watch out when you open the doors they open very wide and you can easily hit other car that are parked nearby, especially dangerous when you have kids who are determined to open their own doors but not strong enough to stop the force of the door. I like the feature that tells us how many km's we have left before the fuel will run out.
The reliability has been fine we have only had the car for a couple of weeks it is way more economical then the old Ford Escape.

Pros:
• Excellent steering, acceleration, braking and suspension.
• Looks brilliant!
• Roomy interior.
• Quality construction as you would expect from Subaru.
• Wonderful safety features inc. eyesight camera which alerts you about things like lane departure and collisions ahead.
• One of the best 4wd’s in its class, IMHO.

Love it!! Super comfy for passengers as well
We have did tons of research to look for a car that can fit a driver that’s 6ft tall and still being comfortable in the limited space, as well as a big boot that can fit white goods. Very smooth performance and sometimes we even complain about the pedal being too sensitive. Plenty of legroom for back passengers, One tip on buying is to choose the non-leather seats, so much comfier and absorbs less heat in the sun.
Only complain is the vent for AC sometimes is not powerful enough for back passengers under Australian’s hot weather. Oh, and the car survived in a severe hailstorm with only two dints! Very impressive.

Sixth Forester I have owned, the first brand new one.
Update - Exhaust pipe cracking I quite often will power the car at low revs which seems to resonate pipe to break. Subaru after 3 yrs have redesigned exhaust with an anti resonator on it. It works.
Performance - I find power adequate, drives really well around corners, feels like a normal car. Often first away at traffic lights, no trouble keeping up with more powerful cars.
Economy - Starts poor (7.0 l/100k) gets better as everything freed up (5.9 l/100 K), did that for a while, then went back up again to around the 6.8 mark. I was careful...Read more

Good car for general use
The car is small outside but spacious inside. We can fit three child seats in the second row (if the child seat has got arm rest, it needs to be lifted up). It is easy to drive around and parking in the shopping centre is not difficult. Overall it's a reliable small SUV.

Great Car to drive - just needs more technology on the inside
Bought the car new at the end of 2017 for the growing family - 1 infant and toddler. Perfect size for the 4 of us.
Driving Experience - It's a pleasure to drive, nice and smooth, quite cabin and the viewing is fantastic, which is why we bought it over the Mazda CX5. Interior is great, but it does lack the refinements of others in the same class. My only problem is with the head unit and speakers. Speakers are of poor quality and I love listening to music in the car. Also the lack of apple and android car play is disappointing on a 2017 model car that you pay over 30K for. All in all very happy with the purchase

Constant DPF issues with Diesel model
We bought a new 2013 Diesel Forester as we do a lot of freeway driving and we thought the diesel would be economical. Any benefit that came with the Diesel engine has been offset by the constant returns to the dealer due to DPF blocking despite us doing the driving style needed to prevent the DPF from blocking. Of course the dealer charges a nice sum to do a forced regen to clear the DPF each time it clogs. The car has also always shuddered under load and significantly loses power going up an incline. This was our second new Subaru and it will ...Read more
be our last. I would definitely suggest that anyone thinking about buying one of these vehicles to think again. Subaru will tell you as long as you do freeway runs every week or so that the DPF will clear itself out and you'll avoid taking it to the dealer for a forced regen. This has not been the case with our vehicle. We have also been told by a Subaru specialist that eventually the DPF will go and will cost about $10K to fix. Not something to look forward to when you've paid close to $40k for the new car. If you google Subaru Forester DPF you'll be able to read plenty of similar stories.Similar opinion? I took a 2016 forester diesel for a test drive, its MY17 i believe. Its a manual...and i loved how it drove! My question is, how do i know if its a 2.0D or 2.0D-L model? Does the vin number give any indication?

SubaruSubaru Australia
Hi @Angie E., The MY17 Forester diesel comes in the 2.0D-L or 2.0D-S variants. You're welcome to private message us through Facebook or send us an email at [email protected] with the VIN and we can confirm for you. The Subaru Team.
So it would be the 2.0D L, as it doesnt have the sunroof and driver assist etc.
SubaruSubaru Australia
Hi @Angie E., If it does not have a sunroof then yes, it would be a 2.0D-L. To be sure, it would be best to send us your VIN as previously advised. The Subaru Team.

Hi guys,
I am about to purchase a outback or forester in next few weeks. But I am really confused which one I would go for, pretty much I know ab both the vehicle specifications.
Though I want to know which one be more reliable to use for a family trips and cit driving all?
I am looking for top of the range model in both model, can anyone help me in this case?

I think it all depends on what size you want and which model suits your needs best. I drove both but prefer the Forester. It just felt more comfortable to me.
Thank you Karen, anyway I’ll test drive the forester and decide which one I go for
Just bought the top of the range 2022 forester in December abd I am 100% happy. Have done almost 5000kms already. Easier to drive and park than my previous Ford Focus due to much better visibility, height and of course the cameras. The auto transmission is much smoother. I was worried initially about getting another CVT after my experience with the Focus. Fuel consumption currently 8 4/100kms. I feel safe, drives smoothly and is quiet. The driver recognition camera seems a bit glitchy as it doesn't always recognize me when i get it but my son who also drives it never has the same problem despite this I haven't regretted my purchase.
