Good car forever
This is my first car and I really love it! Comfortable and safe to drive. We use this car to drive to Sydney. Absolutely wonderful drive experience. I cannot think any disadvantage point. The only thing is the half year service is a little bit expensive. And we have to do the service twice per year.

Excellent car
I bought my Subaru because of its safety features, but once I owned and drove it, there's a lot more about to love. It's economical to run. The cruise control with seeing eye technology is amazing. Makes freeway driving a breeze. I would recommend this car to anyone wanting extra safety features, high performance and comfortable leather seats.
I love my car!

Comfortable even for a long drive
Very sensitive pedal, it gives power efficiently as we tried other competitive brands it was too fuel saving that it hardly drives.
Partner is 6ft tall and he's comfortable with both driver and passengers seats. Plenty of leg rooms for everyone. And saved us nearly half the price on running cost. Only con will be you'll need car service every 6 months.

Good allrounder but reverse is too highly geared
Great car for school runs. Sporty. XT good for towing campers. Very capable off-road will go anywhere I want to go. Not a rock hopper though. I just hope I never have to reverse out of a situation though as reverse is not as capable as first gear meaning you could get stuck. I can drive forward up some driveways that the car will not reverse up. Poor design. Seat fabric also prone to early failure.

Excellent car at reasonable price
Car was bought second hand with 3000kms on the clock and 2 years of factory warranty left. After nearly 12 months and 17000kms I can honestly say that IMO these cars are good value and a great drive.
The legroom is good for a 185cm driver.
The interior is well laid out with everything within easy reach.
Servicing costs are slightly on the high side but it doesn't bother me because I'm not spending anything on repairs.
The Subaru is an example of Quality Control at its best.
Highly recommended.

Turbo fuel consumption
Sold my deisel colorado for a 2013 turbo Forester. Absolutely perfect for me around town and the occasional dirt road. However I find the fuel consumption a lot more than specified. Also the boot liner sold for the car is crap. Doesn't fit the boot properly at all and slides everywhere. I love the turning circle and the power of the turbo if u do have to over take. The sports button s# is not really needed for me but nice to hear the noise of the engine every now and then.
All up it's just me my hubbby and my two yr old. I have to take a cheap stroler when shopping because the big pram is just too squishy but small issue for such a great car

Fantastic
I have had my Forester since late February and have covered some 8000km of everything from coastal bitumen to sandy outback conditions around Lake Mungo area and much in between. I'm in love with it. No-one else gets to drive it.
Its handling through bends and on corrugations is excellent, its fuel economy is great (far better than previous models) and its comfort has impressed even my most sensitive passengers. It is responsive and a delight to drive....a passenger commented that it "caresses the curves".
Unfortunately the interior fi...Read more
nish is pretty plasticky - I bought the base 2.5l model as I didn't want the eyesight cameras because of the amount of outback driving I do with windscreen damage highly likely, and so got the most basic finish elsewhere. That said, everything works and there are no rattles and squeaks even after long periods on rough and corrugated roads and a few forays into tame off-road situations. The dust sealing could be a bit better, I guess, but I suspect that really fine dust would get through even the best sealed vehicle and the finest filters. Cabin is quiet and seats are comfy. It has a practical if somewhat basic layout that works. Did I say I love it?Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

IDEAL SUV
This is the first auto Forester I have owned. The CVT transmission is great, dont feel the gear changes and the fuel economy is excellant. The car handles better than previous models and holds the road well on the sometimes rough north queensland roads. The interior is spacious with room for 3 adults in the back and the leather seats are comfortable. The only thing missing from the interior is rear air con vents which are needed.in hot weather. The turbo engine has plenty of power and is not noisy. Overall the forester is a comfortable, safe and economical car with a reasonable rough/ dirt road capabilities.

The car for all seasons, sort of
When the sun shines I can open the huge panoramic roof and enjoy warmth. When the weather gets nasty I have all wheel driving safety and automatic braking. When I do the grocery run the boot opens and closes automatically. GPS, climate control and raised heated seats look after my comfort. What's more, it's got large windows that actually allow the driver to have an unobstructed view in every direction. And the car drives beautifully, quietly and is quick. I thought my previous cars, a Mercedes and a Hyundai were pretty good. This thing beats them on all counts. As Subaru are part-owned by Toyota and are equally reliable I suppose I can use their phrase "Oh what a feeling!"

An SUV for everyone
Driving experience is outstanding for the money. Interior is extremely comfortable and tech heavy with 3 led screens of information. For the price offers every convenience including proximity entrance and convenience. The CVT is quiet until pushed, actually behaves like a regular auto and has good acceleration for the 2.5l. The leather is very good quality. It feels like a BMW X3 with more room, half the BM's price, more reliability, half the servicing cost, and in reality as much quality especially when compared to overall cost and warranty. hy spend $50k more - invest. September 5th 2017 Update: 2017 2.5 Forester - Revised Review I would like to revise my previous Review of this vehicle. I have downgraded my review for the following reasons; The lag between Reverse and Drive is ridiculously slow and dangerous in an emergency. The acceleration lag around corners is disconcerting. The voice recognition for Navigation is hopeless. You can not turn off the engine stop at idle function. The average fuel consumption update is not factual and you will find that is inaccurate and your fuel consumption is nowhere near the advertised rate.Similar opinion? Amazing family car
Great to drive, very smooth, low road noise, very spacious inside, extra wide door openings to get the babies in, love the electric seat adjuster and memory, love the auto tailgate. No reverse sensor which is abit annoying and no folding mirrors. Amazing fuel efficientcy can go long distances without filling up.

A Joy to drive.
Reliable and good on fuel considering being AWD. on a country road I got 6.8 per 100 km
Very comfortable on a long trip great improvement on the previous model in the way of comfort it's a joy to drive and safety features are tops with the reverse camera add to that aspect.

Fun reliable vehicle even in the worst weather
I have had my Forester now for 12 months. Love it's vroom, the stereo, storage in the back and the cute little holder for both sets of glasses. It is great in the wet and the extendable sun visors in the setting sun. Folding down the back seats gives you a massive amount of space for flat packs from Ikea. The all wheel drive means you can get a grip! (always).
Leg room front and back is excellent. It is easier to get in and out of compared to my last low beastie. Love the blue tooth connection to my phone and the fact I can ask the car to make a phone call for me. It needs the ability to read text messages though.

Subaru Baby
This is my second Subaru Forrester. Love them. The newer model has everything including intelligence eyesight. No more falling asleep at the wheel and running of the road. Great size, comfort and excellent vision all way round. Smooth travelling and great on the pocket. Last went to over 500,000ks. Brilliant

Great car,reliable and safe
Beautiful car to drive.
Lots of added features like eyesight protection.
Handles really well, smooth.
I do notice a little thumping sound when windows are down but had that in my previous 4wd,
Interior is spacious. Air con is good, though no spilt system for the back. Would have liked auto locking feature but apparently that is not available.
Running costs are economical.

Wonderful car
Great car, have used it on and off-road.
Have done 82,000 kms, service costs are good, drives well
Only one problem the interior light is crap, have fitted a light bar to the rear cargo bay
Noisey with more aggressive tyres, but that was my choice.
I have fitted a lift kit, AT Tyres, awning and nudge bar.

Five stars
We bought the turbo diesel and it's the best decision we ever made. We get about 800km out of a tank I absolutely love everything about this car. Subaru have been have been wonderful to deal with in terms of servicing. The rear seats fold down flat and there's more boot space than we know what to do with. Literally love this car, it's really underrated.

wonderful!
Performance is great, handles like a dream, especially on winding country roads. Very quiet motor and fantastic safety features. Interior seats are very comfortable and there is heaps of leg room in both front and back. Only thing we don't like about it is the volume and pitch of the warning beeps. Driver is hard of hearing and finds he cannot hear the beeps or blinker sounds at all, and has to take eyes of road to look at dash. Reliability is good but because is it an AWD vehicle, running costs are higher than other 2WD vehicles. Very satisfied so far.

I took a 2016 forester diesel for a test drive, its MY17 i believe. Its a manual...and i loved how it drove! My question is, how do i know if its a 2.0D or 2.0D-L model? Does the vin number give any indication?

Hi @Angie E., The MY17 Forester diesel comes in the 2.0D-L or 2.0D-S variants. You're welcome to private message us through Facebook or send us an email at [email protected] with the VIN and we can confirm for you. The Subaru Team.
So it would be the 2.0D L, as it doesnt have the sunroof and driver assist etc.
SubaruSubaru Australia
Hi @Angie E., If it does not have a sunroof then yes, it would be a 2.0D-L. To be sure, it would be best to send us your VIN as previously advised. The Subaru Team.

Hi guys,
I am about to purchase a outback or forester in next few weeks. But I am really confused which one I would go for, pretty much I know ab both the vehicle specifications.
Though I want to know which one be more reliable to use for a family trips and cit driving all?
I am looking for top of the range model in both model, can anyone help me in this case?

I think it all depends on what size you want and which model suits your needs best. I drove both but prefer the Forester. It just felt more comfortable to me.
Thank you Karen, anyway I’ll test drive the forester and decide which one I go for
Just bought the top of the range 2022 forester in December abd I am 100% happy. Have done almost 5000kms already. Easier to drive and park than my previous Ford Focus due to much better visibility, height and of course the cameras. The auto transmission is much smoother. I was worried initially about getting another CVT after my experience with the Focus. Fuel consumption currently 8 4/100kms. I feel safe, drives smoothly and is quiet. The driver recognition camera seems a bit glitchy as it doesn't always recognize me when i get it but my son who also drives it never has the same problem despite this I haven't regretted my purchase.

I have covered some 40,000 very happy km in the Forester now and have the following additional observations:
Eye sight Safety System is great BUT switches off in heavy rain and when heading into the sun, like the times when it would be the most useful. Electronics of Safety System and Entertainment system are erratic. A few times the car would be braked almost to a stop by Eye Sight for no apparent reason and with no other vehicles around. On odd occasions an alarm sounds in the car. The screen of the Entertainment System will randomly cycle through the menus which can be awkward when following the GPS and suddenly the home screen is there instead of the map. On one occasion the engine stopped whilst idling and would not start again for three minutes. That only happened once but it was concerning as it happened in the middle of a busy roundabout. No cause has been found and it has not occurred again. These items have been brought to the attention of Subaru service but they have no answer or fix for any of these issues.Average fuel use is 8 l/100 km
