Love my bread!
I don't know what all the negativity is all about! This machine works very well for me. I think attention to measuring is the key. I use my own scales and measuring cups instead of the one supplied. I've been using White Wings wholemeal flour which works well for the wheat bread and sweet spiced bread. Haven't tried white bread yet.
Easy to use and easy to clean
Not sure yet

Complete disaster
I have been using my old bread maker successfully for years. When it finally died I went to purchase a new on and the sunbeam was recommended to me by the sales assistant. My big mistake was taking her advice. The bread does not rise or cook properly. It is a complete waste of time and money. I am going to return it to the shop
The loaf shape and the removable mixer
The bread doesn't rise or cook properly despite following the instructions to the letter

Waste of money!
We brought this machine thinking it would be as good as the sunbeam bread maker we have had for the last 15 years. We tried various recipes from the recipe book supplied with the machine, none of the loaves cooked or raised properly. We brought a bread mix from the supermarket and the bread still didn't cook properly
It just doesn't bake the bread right
I liked the vary of bread you could cook but the machine can't cook them
The bread doesn't t rise or it sinks in the middle or it is raw in the middle, the loaf is tough

Waste of hard earned money!
I have used bread maker for 14 years very successfully, it was not a Sunbeam but I have replaced it regretfully with a "Sunbeam Bakehouse" machine. I have as yet to bake a decent loaf of bread in it. Have wasted many ingredients and money. It does a fine job doing dough alone, now I bought this machine to do more than dough alone!! :((. I think you ought to replace it with a machine that works.
Shape of machine
Bread would rize, during the bake it went down each time! Paddle very loose, needs support during loading of ingredients.

After two years, the bakehouse close
I received this machine for Mother's Day 2012. I have been using it since, but starting from end of last year (around October 2013), the dough did not raise up. I tried buying new flour, new yeast, I have tried everything, it was not succeeded. It is definitely the machine because I use all the left over of these new flour, yeast and bread improver and knead by hand, the bread was beautiful. I miss my baking machine, and I expect my baking machine to last at least 5 years, especially with $150 machine price.

My bakehouse has died!
The first time I used my bakehouse it worked fine - the bread didnt come out great but I think it was because it was my first time! I tried to use it again last night and it was a shambles. At first the screen lit up but after I put the ingredients in and went to set everything it wouldnt light up and I couldnt see what I was doing. The machine was definately on tho! I think I managed to out it on Rye setting and left it to see what happened. When I looked later it seemed to be rising so great! Then I looked again and everything had overflowed ...Read more
all over the bottom and it was starting to burn underneath the bread pan etc so I had to chuck everything out! Ive had this machine for two weeks!! Now I will most likely have to take it back as I need the screen to work at least!!! Very disappointed when it cost me $150!! Looks good and seemed easy to use.1 comment

Measuring Cup
I was using the measuring cup that came with the machine, for the water. After about 8 loaves, and talking to others, measured the water and I found out I was putting in about 100mls too much. Loaves all collapsed. I think maybe you should not put the measuring cup in, unless it is accurate. Now my loaves are great, using a different measure.

Yummy bread
Made many different breads with this already and although I don't like the new style of the mixing arm, I have made a beautiful honey and oat bread turned out perfect. The dispenser is a little clunkie but effective.
My old sunbeam died after 10 years I hope I get 10 plus from this one.
Easy use
The removable mixing arm

What a disappointment
I received this bread maker as a gift and have had NO success with it. It is a complete waste of time and money. I have measured everything exactly, tried different flours, new yeast, followed different recipes etc not a single loaf has worked out. I am so disappointed in this product and would never recommend it to anyone.
Looks good

Very Happy
First loaf - perfect!!
Quite surprised at the number of reviews on here with problems. Perhaps expectations? Are people expecting this machine to deliver their coffee to their bedside as well?
Seriously though, a little care with measurements and following instructions and so far absolutely no problems. Sure the blade might get a bit of dough in it but nothing that can't be solved with a little soaking. Remember it's a machine not a person.
Beats mixing by hand etc. Thanks Sunbeam keep up the good work especially on following up on people's posts.

Disappointed!
I wish we had read the reviews on this site before buying the Sunbeam Breadmaker. It is only a few weeks old and we are already regretting our decision! We have the same complaints that have been mentioned in previous reviews (blade gets gooey residue stuck inside which is impossible to clean, it's incredibly noisy ect). But WORST of all in that we live in New Zealand and purchased the bread maker from a local shop here, largely because it advertises a wide variety of bread recipes. However, after making several FAILED loafs using the Australia...Read more
n recipes, I called the help line where the woman I spoke to informed me that I could ONLY use the NZ recipes!! There are only FIVE bread recipes in the NZ section and they are VERY basic. Why sell a product in a country where you can't make the most use of it! As you know, bread maker recipes are VERY specific (so much so, that we can't use the Australian recipes because the ingredients vary), thus wasting time/ingredients/money on trial and error does not appeal to me! Isn't the point of using a bread maker, the time efficiency and ease of the machine?! I am incredibly frustrated and disappointed and would NOT recommend this machine to anyone, especially NZ customers.11 comments

Retractable blade
Had a Sunbeam 2500 (750g loaf size), and loved it ... except for the hole in the middle! So, I decided to buy the BM 4500 which has the retractable blade. I do not follow exact quantities/recipes, but my loaves are always great. I throw in a lot of good stuff, like chia seeds and wheat germ, and my family loves the homemade bread. But, I have one problem with the blade ... it collapses when I am putting in the ingredients which is really, really frustrating! I sometimes have to hold it upright when I am adding in the flour, etc. I am not ...Read more
sure whether the blade attachment is faulty because surely that should not be happening? Makes great bread, irrespective of not following a recipe! The blade keeps collapsing, and I worry whether that could happen while it is kneading the flour.5 comments

The machine doesn't work.
We have tried every conceivable variable in the bread making process and finally the machine's going in the bin as a total waste of time and money. 8 months and countless attempts. Rang customer service 2 times and no result. Bread doesn't rise, comes out undercooked and still pasty in the middle.
Simply doesn't work.

It works, but build quality is very poor as far as I'm concerned!
This was as mothers day gift for my wife, to replace a Breville which had served us for many years, but in the end the kneading blade gave up.
Overall I'm very disappointed with this bread maker, which is my opinion is in the 'medium high end' in terms of $. It took some time to perfect the ingredients to get what we consider a decent loaf, and generally speaking every loaf is different, even with consistent measurements, overall now we can get a decent loaf every time.
The fruit & nut dispenser as mentioned by someone else, is a little ...Read more
small but it does the job, and you can add straight to the pan, so not a huge problem here, the button layout is good, timer accurate and overall the machine looks good. Biggest dislike with this machine is the build quality, which I consider to be very very poor. - The lit itself which fully removes for easy cleaning etc, has a huge amount of 'slop' in it, and feels very cheaply made - with the lid down there is still approx 3mm slop, not a big deal but feels cheap... one of the downfalls of having a removable lid with a *plastic hinge and surrounding*.2 comments

Pretty Average
I bought this breadmaker after my George Foreman broke after 7 years. It is a smart looking machine but didn't work out for me. I felt the fruit and nut dispenser was a bit too small for the recipes I use. I use about 3/4 Cup of fruit in my fruit bread. but the Sunbeam only has about a 1/2 Cup capacity. The first time I used the machine it was okay, the second time it only half cooked my bread. I made a few good doughs out of it but the heating element stopped working. very helpful. Ended up taking it back to Briscoes for a refund. Briscoes were really good about giving me a refund. Sunbeam bakehouse
I've owned a breadmaker before with much success. I haven't managed to bake an edible loaf of bread with my new Sunbeam Bakehouse purchased a month ago. I've tried different brands of bread mix but they are still heavy, undercooked and stodgy. I'm not happy with this breadmaker at all.

Why didn't I buy one years ago? It is the best!
This bread maker is excellent, so easy to use and you can wake to freshly cooked bread every morning. Takes less than 5 mins to put on and the machine does the rest, the bread comes out perfect every time. Pizza dough is the great too! So easy!! It is not time consuming at all to use.
Quality of bread made with machine and how easy it is to make top quality products
Absolutely nothing

Disappointing
I've had a breadmaker for ages and have made all our bread for 16 years. Since i got a Sunbeam Bakehouse My loaves are not risen and appear undercooked. Despite buying new yeast twice and fresh flour and tweaking the recipe - eg less water, more water, oil I have not made a decent loaf. The last one did not rise at all.
Nice looking. Easy to use
Bread falls often over an inch during baking. Bread is usually sticky and undercooked.

I bought the BM 4 weeks ago. I have tried several times with the basic recipes but no success, heavy and collapsed loaves as a result. I feel totally disappointed with the BM . I phoned several times but they tell me I am outside hours and I am calling at 1pm! I want to return this machine for failing to produce what it promises.

It’s a rubbish machine mate, I made the mistake of purchasing one as well and it was the biggest waste of money! I had the same problems you’re having right now.
I just took my machine back to the retailer and paid an extra $40 for a Panasonic SD-2501 And I swear I was amazed by the first life that came out of the machine it was absolutely perfect, trust me it’s not you it’s definitely the machine!!

HI, I have recently purchased the BM4500 and bought some premix online as the supermarkets are all sold out. Only problem is, there are no instructions, what else do I need to add to the premix e.g. improver, milk powder, salt etc (obviously water & yeast) and in what quantities. I have a grain mix & a white mix. Have messaged seller but no reply as yet. Thanks
