we agree with the large number of complaints. bread sunken, undercooked, have tried all of the hints sunbeam, have posted still terrible bread. machine has been returned twice to sunbeam, still have to buy bread from super market -- bakehouse is a flop. we have never baked a good loaf using same laucke mixture as we have used in other bread makers

We always had a Breville Bakehouse but after several years it played up so we "saved" some money and ordered the Sunbeam. BIG mistake, not one loaf came out as we wanted, even when we used our own recipes, and the noise!!!!! Bought another Breville bakehouse and the Sunbeam sits in storage, with no one even looking at it when we had a garage sale.

Lovely bread but leave a hole.
Pros:
- So easy to use. You just dump the ingredients in the pan, click it in and press a couple of buttons and lovely bread comes out. I have even messed up the ingredients and it came out perfectly.
- Easy to clean as the pan pops out and the kneading flap thing comes out
- comes with some really nice recipies (love the wholemeal and italian)
- can bake a 1kg loaf in under an hour
Cons:
- Leaves a hole in the base of the bread. This seems to be worse when making a load with oats or seeds in it or sourdough. The wholemeal and Italian w...Read more

Waste of money. Just don't buy it.
The only good thing about it was that the paddle failed to work after the second loaf. That meant it was defective so I could return it to the store instead of throwing it in the bin. The machine was so fiddly to use. I'd previously used a bread machine several times a week for years without any problems. That wonderful machine just wore out in the end. The stupid Sunbeam had to have the water at a particular temperature. Aren't bread machines supposed to heat the water to the correct temperature? The end result was barely edible. Every single ...Read more
loaf collapsed on top. I referred to the troubleshooting page. I made loaf after loaf and took meticulous notes of what I'd tried. (I still have those notes, if anyone at Sunbeam is interested.) I weighed the water with my digital scales instead of using a measuring jug, so I'd know it was correct to the gram. I used the proper bread flour. The yeast was fresh. I tried different settings. No matter how I tinkered with the recipe the result was the same. A collapsed top and unpleasant texture. As for the jam! Yuk! The machine beat the fruit into an unappealing paste then overcooked it so it set too firmly to spread. I tried using less Jamsetta but it made no difference. Then I woke up one morning 11 days ago and realised that the malfunctioning paddle was my salvation. Back to the store went that rubbish machine and I paid a little more for a different one.

Don't like it.
I love Sunbeam products normally and had a bread maker for 20 years without a problem. When I got this new one, I was quite happy with the first couple of loaves. Now it is always hit and miss that the collapsible paddle will not collapse too early without first mixing the dough. I have had so many loaves that turn out like bricks and lopsided, despite my 20 years experience with another model. I would prefer to have a hole in my beautiful light fluffy loaf, than one that turns out a house brick 50% of the time. I always make sure my paddl...Read more
e is upright at the beginning holding it up with a skewer when I put all the ingredients in, so can only assume the new fandangle paddle is rubbish. I can tell when the paddle is lying flat as the dough is not being moved around like it should be.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Junk
Piece of rubbish. 9 out of 10 loaves do not rise despite me being very careful with ingredients. I have even tried it with the guy from the local bread mix shop who is a qualified baker.
If you do buy it, do so at your own risk.
Don't say you haven't been warned.

Brick maker not bread maker
My parents bought this Sunbeam Bakehouse. We attempted 3 loaves and all 3 were inedible. The dough starts off looking normal but the machine over kneads and destroys the gluten elasticity which turns the dough into a thickened cream consistency. It rises slightly but then collapses on baking and turns out like a brick. We tried bread mix and a recipe from scratch from the Sunbeam manual. We took it back and paid a bit extra for the Panasonic. I have owned a Panasonic for 15 years which is still making great bread.

Not heating up
We've had the bread machine for a few months now and all was going well until it stopped heating and the bread was not cooking properly and not raising.
There is nothing in the troubleshooting to help remedy the problem, you'll only find fixes for your recipes. No help at all in mixing the problem

Unhappy Jan
Have only used this bread maker three times (purchased 6 weeks ago) as each loaf has been somewhat disappointing - not risen enough and sides over brown top sank as cooled. Have taught in food area for fourty years and believe it does not heat enough to activate yeast well enough. Machine barely got warm so a bit of a laugh beware not to get burnt when handling.
Will now persevere daily for a week using only ordinary white flour rather than mix etc and see what eventuates It will be returned if no better succ

Nice breadmaker and lovely bread
Really easy to use settings. A set and leave appliance. We had some issues initially with the bread sinking but this was easily rectified by using bread improver. The bread now looks, feels and tastes like bakery bread. Crunchy outer and soft and light inner. Our favourite is the pizza dough. Leaves the pizzas shop to shame.
The recipes in the back of the manuals are great and spot on with their measurements.
The only con is that the mixing paddle does leave an average size whole in the bottom of the bread. Not an issue of you tend not to eat the crust end of the loaf.

Absolute Garbage.
I expect much more from a big company, this product does leave a big hole in the bottom of your bread, and instruction is very plain and simple so you end up with sunken bread.
We use all fresh ingredients; our yeast was active too but still ended up with sunken bread.
The bread maker in my opinion is not worth your money or trouble. Honestly just neat, you bread on the bench and use an oven.
Much faster, less washing up,

Improved bread maker
We have had a sunbeam bake house that was 25 years old and the kneading blade had always left us with a big hole in the bottom of the bread, Sunbeam has bought out an improved version, in that the kneading blade now collapses after the kneading process, I was absolutely amazed, now there is only a slight indent when bread has finished baking. Well done Sunbeam. We are very happy.

Sunbeam BM 4500 Excellent product
Purchased today 7/07/16.. After returning with the Bread maker I read the product information, washed the product and loaded it with ingredients as per the instructions... Made a perfect loaf of bread... Very happy with the product and yes if you follow the instructions it is easy to use... Not sure why other people have had a negative experience...

air bit of tweaking.. Everything is dependant on the weather and where you live.. I now live at altitude and making bread here is different to making bread at sea level... Anybody who works with flour will know through experience that it depends on the time of day and the weather conditions on the day.... Nobody is born a cook it takes experience and It is only when you have knowledge and that experience that you can confidently create .. Absolutely Dreadful
I have always bought Sunbeam products as they have always been well made and reliable. So when my old Breville machine, a gift and perfect bread every time, died, I instinctively chose a Sunbeam replacement last year (2015). The control buttons were very unresponsive but I persevered. I still can't get any of the custom buttons to work. The white bread was fine, but has recently deteriorated, but everything else is undercooked, flour doesn't get mixed in properly, or it doesn't rise properly. I have tried many bread flours, combinations, etc. and the results, apart from basic white, are appalling. I am very disappointed indeed and cannot honestly recommend this product.

Don't waste your time or money
This machine...was SUCH a waste of money and time. So many variations of 'bread' this machine produced, 80% of which went straight to our chooks, the other 20% we ate, without gusto. At first thinking it was my error with the bread mixes I was using, i called their customer help line and was asked: "What bread maker are your using?" I replied, "Sunbeam Bakehouse." After a moment pause I hear the dull reply, "Oh." After another pause she added, "It makes good jam though!"
Basically this machine simply doesn't get hot enough to activate the yeast. It's a terrible machine. Keep shopping.

amazing
I am shocked to see so many negative reviews. I've had mine for just over a year and it has made perfect fluffy loaves of all types every day. The express loaf feature is amazing for urgent loaves too. We absolutely love this machine or cannot recommend it highly enough. Waking to the beautiful smell of cooking bread in the morning is something you never get sick of. Thank you sunbeam for an incredible machine

Awesome Machine
I spent a lot of time reading reviews (mostly negative) and under the advice of a friend got the Sunbeam Bakehouse BM4500. Its awesome, we have not had any issues with this machine and its making perfect loaves at least twice a day. We have made white, french and wholemeal loaves and they were just as expected. Would totally recommend this machine!

Good Machine, BUT
Made a perfect white bread loaf first off, but can't get the wheat loaf going. Dialed Pr.3 (Wheat) and it just sits there inert for half an hour. Rang the help desk at Sunbeam and was told it was a faulty chip, and take it back and exchange it. I did (80km round trip). New machine does the same thing!
Back to Google where I found the comment above: "There is IMHO a weird delay in Whole Wheat menu in that you START, and it sits warming the pan for 30 minutes which possibly is not really necessary but could make user wrongly think the Whe...Read more
at function is faulty ". It seems the lady on the Sunbeam help desk obviously doesn't know about the (40?min) delay built into the wheat program. The first loaf from the Wheat program was barely half height - clearly there is a lot of testing to do with this. BTW: This is the latest model BM2500 with the stainless steel square shape, not the pictured "Compact"3 comments

Thanks for responding. I did already and we are currently working on the problem with Laucke's Help Desk, because the problem lies with using their wholemeal breadmix.

I wish I never bought this
I have been very disappointed with our Sunbeam Bakehouse BM4500 since we bought it. Our old bread machine would make any kind of bread - white, multigrain or wholemeal perfectly everytime - this machine only bakes white bread well - every other kind comes out as a heavy brick. I wish I'd read these reviews before I purchased this machine.
Also if we use the timer to delay cooking the bread it always comes out as a brick even if it's a white bread loaf.
Very disappointing, will not have another sunbeam breadmaker again and will tell others to avoid them.

I bought the BM 4 weeks ago. I have tried several times with the basic recipes but no success, heavy and collapsed loaves as a result. I feel totally disappointed with the BM . I phoned several times but they tell me I am outside hours and I am calling at 1pm! I want to return this machine for failing to produce what it promises.

It’s a rubbish machine mate, I made the mistake of purchasing one as well and it was the biggest waste of money! I had the same problems you’re having right now.
I just took my machine back to the retailer and paid an extra $40 for a Panasonic SD-2501 And I swear I was amazed by the first life that came out of the machine it was absolutely perfect, trust me it’s not you it’s definitely the machine!!

HI, I have recently purchased the BM4500 and bought some premix online as the supermarkets are all sold out. Only problem is, there are no instructions, what else do I need to add to the premix e.g. improver, milk powder, salt etc (obviously water & yeast) and in what quantities. I have a grain mix & a white mix. Have messaged seller but no reply as yet. Thanks
