EM3820 somethings better and worse then the EM3600
I really liked the EM3600, it was simple and easy to use but eventually failed and was replaced with the EM3820. Very similar but not quite as well made. The only thing better is the cups don't vibrate around on the drip tray like the EM3600 did. I make 2 glass double walled cups at once and at least now I don't have to hold them. There is nothing absolutely terrible that's worse but a few minor things.
The drip tray cover is flimsy and annoying to fit.
The portafilter sometimes is hard to lock into the machine group head, it sort of gets s...Read more

Cheap plastic piece of cr@p
I owned a Cafe Espresso (stainless) EM 3800 for EIGHT trouble free years!!! It finally packed it in, so I figured the EM 3820 would be an improvement. I was WRONG! This model has been made down to a price. Cheap crappy plastic parts - the plastic top started to warp, and the plastic drip tray cover keeps falling off. Like the EM 3800, there is a design fault that hasn't been addressed by Sunbeam....the screw that secures the circular mesh filter above the group head WELDS ITSELF to the machine. The screw is unable to be removed making removal o...Read more
f the mesh filter impossible. This makes it impossible to descale the machine properly. The EM 3820 made good coffee for a few months, but now the pump wont push the hot water through the coffee - despite larger grind size and less tamping. Sunbeam denied the design fault, despite the owner of an appliance repairer telling me he has seen many with the same fault. Sunbeam, you have lost me as a customer. I have just ordered a Breville "Infuser" model, so I will hopefully get some trouble free years from that.1 comment

Worked well when it did
This machine made good coffee, not great for about a year. Then the group seal started leaking. I bought a new and that lasted for about a month, so I bought another seal. Leaked straight away. Can't figure out where the problem is, so off to find a better machine.

Great coffee, great price, can be noisy frothing milk
I saw that Choice had reviewed coffee machines, and rated this one highly in its class, despite being cheaper than most. RRP was $150, but I found that Myer had it on sale for $99 (still on sale but at $128) so I was well pleased for the deal. I don't usually give any credence to those extended warranties, but given that there's a high-pressure pump, seals and mechanics inside, and also that the price was low, I opted to pay the extra % of the price for the peace of mind.
I wasn't disappointed. Easy to use, and great coffee. No leaking l...Read more
ike others have described (although sometimes the drip tray spills out a bit before the indicator is showing). Earlier productions of this model were recalled (safety issue related to wiring near the steam wand), but I checked the serial number against the Sunbeam website to confirm that this one was OK. The only problems are: 1) The milk frother sometimes squeals like a pig - I don't know if this is a fault or just normal for a high-pressure device. It doesn't do it all the time, and it often comes and goes during one frothing session. I've yet to phone Sunbeam about this. It's not loud, just rather high-pitched. My wife finds it quite annoying. 2) There's no timer or volume measure to known when to turn off the water. The manual simply says, "Once the cups are filled to the desired level". I just guess, and the coffee tastes good so it must be right. I've read somewhere on the 'net that 30mL (1 ounce) is about standard so might start measuring and/or timing.2 comments
I've had my replacement unit for 6 months now. It's still performing fairly well, but there are a few problems I should mention:

Cafe Crema II
we bought this machine July 2011. December 2011 the seal was leaking, so we putt an other seal in. Kept leaking and we took it back to Good Guys, because it was still under warranty there was no big deal, and we got a new one. 6 moths later we had the same problem, renewed the seal... again it kept leaking, took it back as it was again under warranty, no big deal got a new one... 3 months later it started leaking again, renewed the seal, went okay, till 3 months further, start leaking again just when the machine was 1 month out of warranty. we...Read more
send a e-mail to sunbeam and they give us a new one... that was June last year. A week ago the same problem appeared again, To have 3 machines with the same problem isn't coincident any more. When the machine is working, it gives you the best coffee, and froth you've seen... but it will be not this one We will buy now. but something what will last longer then 1 year.1 comment
Sunbeam has in the mean time solved this issue, with sending us a new upgraded model. Thank you Pauline Wood, for this client Service. So far a good machine, and frothing milk is now always a pleasure to do.

Great and affordable!
The coffee machine is very easy to use and clean and it has enough power to make very good coffee. Also, it is compact and light weight, so if you have to move it and clean under it, it makes the job really easy. I trully recomend it if you have a busy lifestile and like your everyday quick but great coffee.

Leaked after 6 months of use
It gave us a good run of about 6 months until it stopped working due to a leak in the water container. I also found out that they have been recalling this model since April 2 2014, due to another fault. Hopefully I could get my money back instead of just a replacement.
It did produce quality coffee, even better to some cafes that I have been to.
produces good coffee when you use good beans, straightforward to operate
quality of build was terrible

Simple to Operate and makes a Cracker Coffee ….. Only lasted 6 months before breaking down.
I bought this machine to replace the previous model which I had been making wonderful coffee with for over two years. The original machine only cost around $100 and I was fine with getting two years out of it for that price. The replacement Cafe Espresso II made an equally good coffee with lovely creme and the steamer produced think creamy milk. This machine stopped working after 6 months and, as it was under warranty, I returned it and had it replaced.
The replacement machine worked well for just under three weeks, before dying completel...Read more
y - no power was getting through. I again replaced it, but upgraded to the Sunbeam Cafe Crema II. (I have since had that one replaced twice in three weeks and upgraded again to a Sunbeam Espresso Vita. Yet to try the Espresso Vita, but hoping it lasts for more than a few weeks as this is my fifth machine in under two months). I rang Sunbeam to ask if there was any reason these machines kept breaking down and they advised me that there was no problem with any of them, that I was just unlucky and that I should keep buying them and returning them when they break. An interesting take on customer service. In short, the Cafe Espresso makes a great coffee for the money, but hold on to your receipt and warranty details. Simple to use, great creme, good milk frothing, easy to clean Short lifeSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Leaked Like A Sieve
Saw the glowing review here for the Sunbeam Cafe Espresso II and thought I would pull the trigger (the little voice inside my head was saying don't do it)....so headed off to Myers and bought one, true to form it leaked like a sieve underneath as soon as the machine was dialed to espresso....can't complain though, (1) got one cappucino out of it, though the cleanup afterwards was a job and a half; (2) rung Sunbeam who said it was faulty and take it back to place of purchase; (3) thankfully Myers are good with returns. Hopefully the next one will not leak, fingers crossed.
Cappucino was nice
Leaked water/coffee badly underneath the machine, off for another trip (the very same day I purchased it) to the major retailer to return it.

Hard to find faults
This is my replacement of a Sunbeam Expresso Series I which performed exceptionally for 4 years. These are early days but these are the improvements found so far.
1. Quiet. My old Sunbeam machine screamed especially in milk frothing. The EM 3820 does a better job without the noise. It's very quiet in comparison.
2. Better design. Smooth switching. Better indicators and "ready" faster. Easier and studier refill accessibility. Solid plastic rather than a "stainless steel" (subject to rust spots) drip tray cover.
3. Scoop/tamper - much be...Read more
tter. Solid and fits exactly. 4. Sunbeam recognises blockages can occur and has made it easy to clear with two exact fitting "pins" built into a holder mounted under the top of the refill holder. One for the drip filter and one for the wand. Clever design.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

I have always love using this machine. However, while I was about to froth the milk from the wand, there was only a little pressure coming out. The machine was extremely hot like it was smelling plastic.

Purchased a Caf Espresso II machine in 2 months ago. It was working fine for first 2-3 weeks. Haven't used it since. Got it out today and it only comes out in a drip and lots of steam. Have cleaned group head and tried to descale but water doesn't even really get sucked up from reservoir. Has the machine had it already??
