FAST and FABULOUS! - Perfect Iron for a working Mum of 4 kids: fast, stress-free ironing
I LOVE this Tefal Freemove 2400W cordless iron! My last iron (a top of the range corded Philips 3100) was great for over 10 years until it blew up recently. However, the cord always annoyed me, getting in the way and pulling on my clothes and crushing the fabric after I'd ironed each section unless I held the cord away from the ironing board! But, after ready heaps of bad reviews about the latest corded steam irons and then reading about the Tefal cordless iron, I thought I'd give the Tefal Cordless Free Move a try. I don't understand the bad r...Read more
eviews about this iron. I read them all before I decided to buy this iron and give it a go, and SO GLAD I did! Maybe some people don't iron the way I do or don't read the instructions??? (Actually, the instructions are in diagrammatic form in case you can't read well... but if you don't understand the pictures, the Tefal website has more information and they are contactable for questions.) The Tefal heats up quickly, produces heaps of steam as long as you have the dial set to one of the steam settings (obviously) and keep the steam trigger button depressed as you go (takes a bit of getting used to, but easy enough as the trigger is under the handle and is easy to squeeze as you iron). Or there is also a Turbo Boost button as well for an extra burst of steam. I have had no problems getting creases out of my very crushed cotton and linen clothes. I never use starch, although I have always found a water spray bottle handy to use on really crushed cottons before I iron them, as none of the irons I have had (including this one) spray enough water (or mist properly) on the clothes to make a difference. I am a working mother of 4 kids and although I iron all their poly/cotton school uniforms and my work clothes all at once on the weekend (in the lounge room in front of the TV), I tend to iron other clothes as needed, so I leave my ironing board set up all the time except when we have visitors, so I don't waste time putting my ironing board up and down etc. However, the whole base and iron lift off the clamp easily so you can put them away and fold your ironing board within seconds. You just leave the clamp attached to your ironing board all the time (it doesn't interfere with folding your ironing board either). Bl**dy clever if you ask me! I don't have any problem placing the iron back on its base within 30 seconds, (I see that some reviewers complained about this) as I normally iron sections of my clothes and stand my iron up anyway while I re-position the item of clothing, so it's just getting used to lying the iron down on the base instead of standing it up - no biggie! (and it re-heats by the time I've re-positioned the clothes - within seconds!) My only worry before purchase was that the base might take up too much room on my ironing board (a really old basic ironing board) and that I might need to purchase a new fancy ironing board with a large iron-tray on the end (I see another reviewer said she replaced her ironing board), however the clamp allows you to position the base on the corner edge of the ironing board, and you can swivel the base around on the clamp to face outwards, still allowing room to iron long trousers etc. The base might get in the way of ironing large tablecloths or duvet covers etc. but this is the trade-off for having no cord to get in the way, and the positives far exceed the negatives. I have even thought about mounting the base on a table close-by my ironing board instead so I have full use of the ironing board, but I'll look at that option later when I need to iron a larger item as it is not worrying me at the moment, as I can easily iron long pants, dresses etc without restriction. The water in the tank lasts longer than my last iron, even when I hold the steam button nearly the whole time that I'm ironing! The bottom of the iron is covered in steam holes (76 altogether I think) compared to 64 on my last iron) so you get a more even distribution of steam. And, I haven't had any problems with water spitting or leaking. Like any iron, you must wait until the iron has heated enough (there is an green "iron ready" indicator light) before you use the steam function, as any iron may spit out water at your clothes or drip if you do not wait. (This iron heats up just as fast as any other iron I have used in the past, so a few seconds to ensure that the temperature "iron ready" light is on before you use it ensures that you will have no problems with water spitting or leaking.) It takes tap water, so will have to review later down the track after it has been used for a while. The booklet instructs regular maintenance as with any iron: (This iron is self-cleaning - Heat the iron, unplug it, remove the anti-calc valve and spray the iron over the sink. • To de-scale: Remove the antiscale valve and soak the valve in a cup of white vinegar one or plain lemon juice for 4 hours). I don't think I'll ever go back to a corded iron again! If you hate ironing like me and want a fast uncumbersome iron (without a cord that gets in the way), then I would highly recommend this iron!1 comment

Totally CRAP Iron!!!
I have owned many different irons over the years ranging; Sunbeam, Tefal's, and even two versions of the Laura Star.
Without doubt this is the biggest piece of rubbish I have ever used.
The B-I-G downside constant staining. Nothing to do with temperature or the water. Seems to be reaction between sole-plate coating and any spray starch. CRAP!!!

Brilliant!
This iron is fantastic - plenty of steam and heat (comparable with a corded iron) and no annoying cord to get in the way. For me, 30 seconds of use before replacing on base is quite adequate, and it only takes two or three seconds to recharge and be ready to go again. The ability to use the steam function with the iron held vertically is great, and the turbo steam fuction delivers a powerful burst of steam. The only issue (which is very minor) is some difficulty in seeing the water level through the purple/blue plastic tank. Overall though, I m...Read more
ust say this iron does a great job, is easy to use, and is better than some corded irons I have used. I am intrigued by the anti-calc valve, and looking forward to seeing how effective it is (I've only had the iron a couple of weeks, and the user guide says to clean it monthly, so I'll have to be patient!). I really don't know how anyone could be anything other than pleased with this iron.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Disappointing
Couldn't wait to get it out and try it, but was very disappointed from the get go. It would only suit someone who has all day to iron, but in this fast paced world we live in I'm sure there would be many disappointed buyers.
It only last for 30 seconds then needs to go back on the base and doesn't heat up enough:(

Fantastic I find it amazing!
Powerful Cordless Iron who would have thought that this would work so well.
The charging base fits well onto the ironing board and obviously there is no cord so perfect for me as I am a left handed person so it is easy to move in any direction with either hand and the heat settings are very accurate.
The iron heats up very quickly and charges very quickly.
The one thing that you have to get used to is instead of resting the iron on its base like you would with a normal iron, all you do is place it back in it's charger base while you move your item of clothing around for the next iron and while it is on the charger it is ready to use within seconds.
Very happy customer.

Fantastic, does exactly what it's designed to
What a fantastic cordless iron.
I purchased this iron to use on board my yacht, there is no excuse for not having nicely ironed clothes even when living aboard a yacht. Although I have 240v mains via the marina, I didn't want a cord getting in the way so I purchased a cordless iron. My research led me to this Tefal FV9965.
Used the iron today and, wow, it's excellent.
The iron took very little time to heat up and then once off the charging cradle and it works as well as any other 'regular' iron I've used. I put the iron back in its char...Read more

It was an easy process of replacing the iron into its charging cradle when repositioning or moving clothing. The steam worked brilliantly when the iron was off the charging cradle The iron kept excellent heat and I had to reduce heat on occasions for other fabrics The iron has great steam and no dribbles of waterSimilar opinion? Doesnt Suit Me
I found it heavy and awkward after a while of using. I do not like the handle. Too round and short for my hand. (I have large hands, so not sure how you cope with normal or small hands, but would think it to be worse for you.)
I found it hard on my wrist because putting it back into the cradle all the time became fiddley and laborious for me after a while. I find having a corded iron, less invasive than that to be honest! ......and I had given it a fair try out for a few hours.
It did not sit well on my new Phillips ironing board. The cl...Read more
amp is needed or else the base moves around too much and you have to put the clamp on each time if you want to pack the board away. I don't think the clamp would last if you had to do that, as It seems flimsy. The bass moves around a bit even when it is clamped and so I found that annoying. All in all I think a cord is less invasive. This iron limited me. I had to wait while it charged. It did charge quickly but sometimes that was inconvenient. When I went back to my corded iron I felt a relief and had more control over how I could do things and it just seems faster that way to me. Hope this helps! I got it cheap and also had an offer of $30 cash back but chose to return the iron. I had not put water in it or anything so it was still like new. It was still very good at pressing without steam, but I did use a spray bottle.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Absolutely love it
The creases disappear straight away with little effort. The iron heats really fast and stays hot for quite some time. The best way to use it is, each time you finish ironing a section put it on the heater, rearrange your clothing item and the iron is hot and ready to go immediately. I found holding the button in the handle down at all times releases the correct amount of steam. Haven't needed to use the sprays as the iron is so good.
I liked my old Tefal but this one is better and cordless! And it turns itself off if you walk away and forget it for too long.
Reading other reviews I found if it beeps after 4 seconds you DON'T need to put it back to reheat, it is still hot.

Ironing can be so much easier
Bought this iron last week because of the cordless function, this is a great invention! Iron without a wire makes everything ten times easier! Only disadvantage i found is the battery, I found it a little confusing to tell if the battery is charged or not. Over all seems to be a good product

Not perfect and efficient as advertised
The iron is not hot enough (creases still there), spend too much time to iron 1 shirt. Keep cleaning all the times but sand/ scales keep coming out (after 1 week after cleaning) of the iron. Very disappointed!!!!
It is still under guarantee. Myers suggested to talk to Tefal company but no luck to keep in contact with them.
One good thing is "cordless"

Good Stuff!
I've read all the review before I buy it. There's quite a lot bad reviews and I am so confusing but I made my own decision which is right! This Model is good enough for daily using and I am starting to learn how to iron my clothes. After my first trial on last Sunday I think I should give it a good review although 30s maybe not long enough but for me it's okay.

Superb Appliance for me
I have the iron for almost 2 years now
I am not a frequent user and in saying that, i am a routine user who uses it to iron like 20-30 business shirts, causal and some T-shirts in one go..
Works like a charm and i have not noticed any faults as it irons well and maybe i am a very patience person as i iron while watching the tele so perhaps i am distracted.
It is a cordless iron which consumes huge amount of power and even a Dyson cordless runs for 20 minutes only so i cannot fault the time of 30 seconds to iron before charging for 4 seconds which is pretty darn good..
i love it but of course there is room for improvement. For the price and effort and cordless function, i would buy it again if i needed to.

I don’t really understand why all the bad reviews here? I almost decided not to purchase the iron after reading these reviews, but in the end I decided to take the chance. I’m glad I did, because I think it’s a great iron. It works exactly as specified. The cordless function works well. You just have to make sure that when you put the iron down, you put it back on it’s base (not too much to ask). It only needs to be on it’s base for about 4 sec before it is ready to go again, so by the time I have re-arranged my garment, the iron is ready...Read more
. I very rarely have the iron off the base long enough for it to start beeping. It glides across my shirts smoothly, and the auto steam feature works great (with my previous irons I was pumping a button for steam). It was a little heavier than expected, but at the end of the day this works well too, because it means I do not have to apply pressure when ironing. I guess it all depends what type of ironing you are doing.. I am an office worker so I need to iron shirts weekly, this iron is prefect for this.1 comment

Difficult to understand how they can even make such a useless product
If I had had know that I needed to put the iron on the charger every 30 seconds I would never have contemplated buying such a useless product. I was really keen to use the iron and thought that there was some fault with it, went online to read some reviews and wish I had done so before the purchase. There should be some information on the external packaging to make the consumer aware. What a waste of money.

Can't Stand it!
Loved the idea of a cordless iron and was super excited to buy it, but as soon as I started using it I was pretty disappointed. I don't feel it heats up hot enough for those clothes that need the extra heat to get all the creases out. I sucks big time that you have to put the iron down every 30 seconds on the charging base and wait for it to heat back up to the desired temperature again. This iron is only a few months old and I am getting rid of it. I have now upgraded to the Tefal Effectis Easy Steam Generator, so we will see how that goes lol

Good enough, with a few flaws
EDITED 30/09/15
After trying another iron, I realised that the issues with the Tefal Freemove are fundamental problems which severely affect the performance of the iron. The dripping and erratic steam button especially should not be problems. As such I wouldn't recommend this iron and have downgraded my review to 2 stars.
Pros:
- nice smooth soleplate which glides over fabric
- strong steam (when it works)
- easy to use
- automatic pause after being left on for so long, this has definitely saved me burning down my house!
- easy to descale (but I would recommend using filtered water even though they recommend against it)
- no major problems after two years

Didn't live up to expectations
I have wanted a cordless iron forever & was so excited to purchase the Tefal Freemove FV9965. In its favour it looks lovely.
But I will list the reasons why its going back to the store.
1 The water tank is dark & I can't see how much water is in it or when the water is close to the max fill mark. There are no instructions about filling the water tank, or about how much water to use.
2 The iron doesn't have a flat base so it can sit on the ironing board, it MUST go back in the charging base.
3 The steam button is under the handle & is alway...Read more

This was my first Cordless iron, but did not like it
This is quite a new model from Tefal. I intended to buy the previous Tefal Freemove cordless, however the store ran out, and I bought the latest model FV9965 instead at $169. I was so excited for this is my first cordless iron. I read the reviews of the previous model (and was impressed) and thought the latest model would have to be even better!
So coming home I read the instructions carefully, admiring the design and the soleplate (sad isn't it?). I clipped on the stand, filled up the water tank and plugged in the power. The charge was surp...Read more
risingly quick. I ironed and few t-shirts and was looking for more things to iron just to test this new gadget. I noticed the trigger steam was not very strong. I did experience the beep beep a couple of times because the iron was not back onto the cradle within 30 seconds. As an experienced ironer, I can turn and reposition the iron fairly quickly so I normally leave the iron face down and continue immediately. Therefore having to place the iron back into the cradle for under 4 seconds (the time it takes to recharge) was not an advantage to me. Two days after my first experience, I was ironing some pillow cases. From the get go I noticed the Charge light blinking for over 4 seconds, but the iron was warming up. I tried to reset the iron, but still the charge light continued to blink throughout my ironing. To have this happen on my second ironing experience was enough for me to pack up the iron and return it to the store. Other factors I found about the iron. The two buttons at the top (spray and steam) were a little heavy to push down. The steam trigger button at the bottom was sometimes 'in my way', for example, when I did not want any steam to come out, I would accidentally trigger it because of the position it was at.3 comments

You have to press the steam button underneath the handle as well as the one on top. This will turn produce a big strong jet of steam. The ratchet noise I not sure of.
I will have to check this out then but thank you for your reply.
