Nice big screen, and WiFi makes updates easy
I've always had a Garmin in the past, but thought I would give TomTom a try. I really like the large screen of the 620, especially when typing in an address.
The fact that it has WiFi inbuilt is a boon. No more mucking around with cables and PC apps to get updates.
The only downside is that they don't have Japanese as a language option, and my wife would really appreciate that. She's sticking with her Garmin for now.

Does the job but
Originally I gave this product a 5 star review but now after owning it for a period of time I find it has, for me, a major flaw in everyday use. I purchased it mainly for a USA road trip and it served me well in the US. Note that traffic will not work outside of Australia but that was not an issue for me.
The issue is that now I have come back from the US I thought it would serve me well in everyday use by warning me of fixed traffic speed camera locations - it will BUT only if a 'from to' route is entered. In Map mode only there is no warning of cameras or other poi's in fact Map mode is totally useless.

Battery life
I recently bought a TomTom GO 520 for a return Sydney to Melbourne trip however, to my amazement, the battery powered off prematurely. I recxharged for quite a bit longer however the same thing happened again. I will call TomTom about this but your review says that TomTom won't help. If this is the case, I will contact the Dept of Fair Trading.
Also, you cannot charge the TomTom whilst it is sitting in its holder as they use the same area at the rear of the GO 520. So it needs to sit on the passenger's lap to charge and once charged (1-2 hours worth) its the same routine again. My previous 10 year old GO 720 was far more reliable.

Very unhappy
MY original 2006 was perfect but updates became expensive so updated after 2 months stopped working so it was replaced new one intermittently loose satellite signal. Decide to update as displayed on screen after update could not find anywhere in Australia as it removed Australian map and replaced with south east asia tried may times to fix but to no avail, so it looks the rubbish bin will purchase iPad mini, they seem more reliable as it is embarrassing when you stop in traffic and don't know where to go.

Unable to access Tomtom site to update
I have had an old style tomtom for years, but needed to replace due to being unable to update maps. Received email from Tomtom offering me an update to a GO 620 at a price much cheaper than any store or online site. Now I can see why Tomtom are trying to offload these models so cheap to current Tomtom (older model) users.
I can see why folks complain on various sites about the newer model Tomtoms. I cannot log into their home site to download updates, it keeps saying site unavailable ( it has been all day)
Signal strength is good, very easy...Read more
to install into my car.The actual product is a nicer model than my old one, bigger, easier to read screen and easy to understand instructions, I was able to enter addresses, save details etc, but really concerned about problems accessing tomtom's site for the updates. Shame, as I was really hoping for something good and reliable when I take overseas visitors away throughout NSW and Qld over the next 2 months. Think I should have read more info on this before committing to what could amount to another GPS to throw into the grandkids toybox!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Australian map data unfit for purpose.
While it is accurate in locating its position and most features are useful, around Melbourne the map data proves time and again to be unfit for purpose. I haven't tried it elsewhere in Australia, but free Google maps on the mobile phone and a five year old Garmin win hands down when it come to finding destination and navigation.
It doesn't recognise street addresses of long established government buildings, leads you to the wrong street address, it doesn't know the location of a Metro railway station or a cemetery that's been on the same pl...Read more
ace for 100+ years. A large golf club has the wrong street number. The traffic guidance has so far led me twice into serious traffic jams, with the unit showing green routing - while cars are banked up in three lanes for hundreds of metres. I consider the $300 purchase price lost and go back to fiddling on the mobile with Google maps.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Horrible Product and Service
Product consistently powers off in the middle of using it. Tried contacting Tom Tom with problem, but since I purchased the product 5 months ago, they refuse to take care of it. Been a Tom Tom costumer for more than 10 years. Seriously disappointed with this product and lack of customer service.

A bad replacement
Replaced 340 with 520 due mechanical failure of case attachment bracket. Route Demo is ridiculous, always starts from where you are, even if on the opposite side of the country. Tom Tom said the software will be changed, hasn't happened yet 12 months later. Instructions can be downright incorrect. Often shows distance to random intersections which have no meaning or relevance. All you need to know is how far to next turn. The 340 did this. Keeps you in the left lane and then suddenly announces a right turn within 20 to 50m. The 340 display was better. Having been more than satisfied with the 340 for 9 years this model - and I suspect all current models - behave the same way. Turned the useless and confusing voice instructions off.

Do not buy a tomtom - it loses whole maps and their backup stinks
If you try to upload an update, you risk losing the whole map, and when that happens, at the drop of a hat, you can't do anything to get the map back. All the customer service do are point you to their online directions - absolutely useless. I have gone back to Garmin after being stranded overseas with no Sat Nav.

Better than expected.
Just bought the Go 520. I have been impressed with the ease of updating, setup and navigation of this unit.
I have been using my mobile for navigation for several years after being disappointed with previous dedicated GPS units in the past, but was getting tired of battery drain on my mobile. After checking reviews I took the plunge and bought the TomTom. Very happy so far, great screen, clear instructions and painless interface with mobile. Mydrive works well too, I'm a tradie and all my job addresses are in Google calendar. I open next appo...Read more

Do not buy
Worst gps I have bought to date. Got a blurry screen first time it was switched on and had to be reset. Does not display Street names or intersections. Traffic switches off whenever smartphone screen goes to sleep. One screen theme, colour, pointer and sound - no choices. Not worth the expense or the dreadful service from Tom Tom.
