Hi Lucia,

I had RAV4 2017 and I just treaded it to Hyundai Tucson and I be getting it tomorrow!

I been driving the RAV4 for 3 years and love the size of the car BUT the suspension is horrible when I make a slow turn the passengers body will swift to the side and when here a bump u can feel the jerk!

And when my baby girl ( from 2nyear old to 4) sit on the back sit I don’t dare to drive more then 30 min she will vomit!!!!

My advice if u really think of getting RAV4 do a test drive and bring friends along to sit at the passenger seat and drive to the humps and S shape road and get the feel it.

Sorry I can’t comment on Mazda CX-5 because I never drive this car before.

Hi I am considering buying a 2003 rav4 cruiser as a upgrade from a 2003 Mazda 323 astina hatchback because I’m expecting baby number 2. I will have 2 rear facing car seats and a double pram. Will there be enough space ? It’s got 200,000kms on it and it’s a manual. Will it last as well? It has a service history as well

It will make your life easier not having to bend down to put the kids in their seats but a lot more room you will not gain. Also as it's a full time 4 wheel drive your fuel consumption will be higher as well. It's just a matter of weighing up your needs and priorities. The RAV4 is a pleasant drive though as you have better vision on the road being a higher vehicle. Knowing myself I would prefer the Toyota above a Mazda as I have owned both brands in the past. Having said all that though it's just down to a matter of preference I feel and your needs and priorities.

The Rav 4 is a nice car, but myself would not buy anything that got almost 200,000km on the clock, An how has been service an looked after etc? There are other S.U.V on the market, Kia Sportage or the Hyundai Tucon., Rav 4 has 106kw, Sportage has 114 kw an the Tucon has 121 kw, but use more petrol. Maybe the same price, all 2 litre 4 cylinder's,

Check the service history and the condition of the car. They should last a while if they are maintained.

My 2015 Toyota Rav 4 is listed as having a 60 litre petrol engine, but will only accept 40 litres when completely empty. The Toyota Service Manager told me that although the light comes on and the on-board computer reads empty there are still 20 "hidden" litres in the tank. I consider this is unacceptable, and want to have this confirmed.

60 litre tank, if you still have 20 litres of petrol, then it will only take 40 litres to fill it up, The petrol gauge is only a guild, It does this so you still have time to get petrol even when it shows empty..

No mine does not do that when my petrol light comes on it's almost empty I can still do a few Ks but mine is doing what it should do you've got a very large reserve tank that's what it sounds like my model is 2008 though good luck

I’m having a problem with my door locks on a rav4 2001 model only one door will unlock & lock how do I fix it or where do I go to get it fixed? Perth wa

Any Toyota Dealership will be able to fix it for you are you sure you haven't pressed on the button on the door by mistake that locks doors that's why you can only open one door or make sure before you take it to Toyota check that you haven put your childlock on your doors that won't open it's easy to do when you wash or clean your Rav 4 it's very easy to do

Shiney68

This is likely the door sensor which is a mechanical switch as you close the door, it sits behind a rubber covering I replaced one on a rear door it fixed the problem. its two screens and getting fingers under the door seal needs a little mechanical understanding but a very straight forward fix. Else take to Toyota and if they do not diagnose to replace a switch then beware as its a common fault with remote locking of all the doors.

Looking for suggestions on what to do with my 2016 Cruiser Rav 4 Diesel, the 2 main issues I’m experiencing is occasionally the low oil pressure light comes on the dash only for a couple of seconds then disappears, I have also checked the dipstick and all appears fine.

I’m currently only getting around 480kms around town to a tank of premium diesel, I purchased the car from Brisbane and drove it back to Sydney, and still I found it to be extremely heavy on fuel, I only managed 600kms to the tank before having to fill up again, and that was highway driving.

I have taken it back to Toyota several times and all they come with is the car seems to be fine, as we have done every test possible with no error codes coming up.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Cheers Chris

Sell the car to a toyota dealer, some cars from same manufacturing belt come with elusive faults that cannot be solevd, Better to sale it. I had a 2012 Commodore which drove like any other commodore on road but i had experienced engine issues where it stopped on the road with the engine rigorously shaking and then the car would hust stop in 10 secs. Took the car to few different mechanics including Holden but no one could find any fault with thhe engine, amd then i sold the car to a Holden dealer, let them deal with it. :)

May be a dicky oil pressure switch?
I have a manual diesel and get about 700 per tank (not exactly sure) Yours is possibly an auto?? which will use more.
A visit to a diesel specialist may pay off. Good luck with it as they are a great vehicle.... and I wouldn't sell it for a minor complaint unless you are made of money

Hi, I would google the towing capacities on both vehicles and check this against the weight you are towing. I know with the Rav it initially was rated at 550kg but after much public complaint it was upgraded to 1000kg towing capacity. I would guess a trailer with two trail bikes would be under 1000kg.

The fuel consumption my Rav 4 2015, 2.5 L AWD petrol is much worse than publicised advertised at 8.5 L / 100 km, vs actual 12.8 L / 100 km.
How does this compare to other RAV4 users?

I guest the what so called publicised fuel consumption is just a guide, in the end it really depends how you drive and where you drive.
driving in CBD i won't be surprised to see 12.8L, on the other hand driving in country side could down to as low as 7L

I drove a rented a 2012 Rav4 4wd for almost 2000kms 80% freeway in NZ south island and averaged 11/100kms. This car has terrible fuel economy.. in comparison my 2015 Honda Accord VTiL averages 5.5L/100kms.

Tvertsin
Tvertsin

Thanks Tim. In addition to the poor fuel economy of my 2015 Rav 4 AWD (compared to that publicised) I noticed that my "'publicised"" 60 litre petrol tank only holds a little over 40 litres. I am otherwise very happy with this car and don't really care about fuel consumption, but hate "false advertising"

I’ve just bought a 2nd hand 08 auto rav4 and am looking at taking it up the beach to Noosa North Shore, 1 big question is where is the anchor point for if you need to be pulled out? I can’t see one and my car dosnt have a nudge or bull bar. Also, how do they fare on the sand?

Hi Vanessa, unfortunately I cannot answer your questions as I haven't taken the Rav on sand yet. I would suggest consulting a 4wd place and getting some recovery points added to the car to ensure you don't damage it.

Keith2
Keith2

Unless you have answered your own question, "where is the anchor point.." or you don't have 4wd capability, stay on tarmac. I have a Prado full 4wd and had to tow a RAV4 about a mile to get it off the beach. This person, not only spoiled their afternoon they spoiled ours. Wherever they connected to seemed to be under the front bumper, whether that was a hook or they "Gerrymandered it", I'm not sure, but it tested OK and did the job.

I think we are getting a little over 500 km per tank around town, more on the freeway but I put this down mainly to the size of the tank (60 Litres). It's not that expensive to fill up but wish it did have a larger tank

My 2016 RAV4 Cruiser 2.5L runs on only BP Ultimate 98 since new and regularly sees between 530 ~560km per tank around town. On the highway, we can see up to 590~600km. If you change over fuels you may need to give it a couple of tanks. I run this fuel in my 120 series v6 Prado too and regularly see fuel economy figures down into the high 12's.

Hi Tracy
I am more than pleased to help you with this .
I only purchase Toyota because of its proven reliability and efficiency . In 2015 I replaced my 12 year old Kluger for a brand new Rav 4. The Rav 4 was great on all accounts, spacious, powerful on long roads, easy and slick on suburban roads . The only strange thing on purchasing the 2015 model was that it didn’t have. Sat navigation - it didn’t matter because Toyota had it fitted for me . As you can gather, efficiency, ease of use, reliability and sat navigation was important factors for me . As a nurse I work hard, I work shifts, - thus I want all of those aspects and Toyota delivered

I currenty have a 2013 RAV4 diesel - which I enjoy driving. I noticed that oil is being used and since my last service at 85200km to 90,000 it has used 600ml. I am not a diesel mechanic so should i be concerned?

600ml in 5,000kms is not much at all. I remember holden claiming that 3 litres per 5,000kms was acceptable in their V8's. I guess thats why holden went bust. I honestly wouldn't be concerned at all. Just make sure a quality diesel oil is being used, not cheap stuff. Especially do NOT use castrol oil, it's rubbish or penrite.
