Absolutely Brilliant vehicle. I've owned mine for 5 years and never had any problems. Engine is beautifully smooth, servicing is standard pricing ($200-300) at my mechanic. I've taken her off road a couple of times a year when I go on holidays. No where I can't get on sand that a proper 4wd can. Torque is good at 4k revs. Plenty enough for what I use it for. I use the cruise control every time i drive - its just habit now, and it works perfectly. Economy for Perth city driving is about 9.5l per 100 km, but i don't flog it at all in city driving.
Highly recommend. Car has done 188k km . Love the versitility of being able to take out the back seats completely and use for transporting stuff. Also has 2 12volt adapters in the front which i have usb charges on. Pretty handy. I've replaced my stereo deck and now have all the mod cons.. so love it.

I only have experience with the 2009 model (and the 1995 model ) - the later model (2012 onwards) I have no experience with - I would ask to go for a test drive in the Toyota dealers demonstrator rav and see if that does it. - if it doesnt do it tell them that you want your car that is still under warrantee to drive like the demonstration model .

I must agree with Pete, it comes to using your warranty time to address any issues with your car(while you can), RAV4 is a great car, but there are always lemons, let's hope you didn't get one :)

I bought a RAV4 CV Sport 2005 couple of years ago. It is still in good condition and I have no problem at all. But three times it slips towards the left side. Beenchecked by the mechanic and he told me that there is no wrong with the car and tyres are also new, but I still concerned as the previous owner also have that problem with this car.
Is there any manufecturing fault or something else? I been lucky that I didn't get any major accident. But I afraid if it slips again.

Please advise me what to do. I don't want to sell it.

What do you mean slips to the side? Is it when breaking, what speed and road conditions when this happens? Usually the road angles to side for drainage reasons so naturally a car pulls left if you let go of the steering wheel. Other reasons are front wheel alignment servicing, mixed tires and sizes and uneven wear etc

It could even be a steering problem in which case a steering specialist workshop might be able to help such as pedders suspension shocks workshop they also work on brakes and steering to the best of my knowledge @ although there are other workshops that can help pedders are great

brian
brian

You should explore every option you can think of @ the Toyota Australia workshop / a auto electrician shop if it's a problem with the computer or sensor or some electronics problem or it could be a problem with the brakes where a rotor or a calliper is catching somewhere in which case a braking specialist workshop might be able to help

Hi, it could be many issues but check if the battery is too old after 4 years they lose charge, engine spark plugs too old, check engine oil, starter motor or you have water in the engine. Best to see the repair shop.

I have been asked to return my 2013 RAV4 Diesel for an 'upgrade' to improve the towing capacity.

The dealer was not able to explain in language understandable by a non automotive engineer what was to be done to achieve this improvement.

Can any one help me?

Risk Management. - the diesel motor in the new rav is an unknown quantity - so they are being conservative. - with good reason - there does seem to be some teething issues with the new motor.

PAUL_DOUBYA

The diesel is a well known boat anchor and can seize without much notice, it loves oil and can consume it's own oil as fuel. Truly the worst diesel Toyota makes.

I am just about to purchased a 2006 rav4 2.4L auto 4wd Japanese import 3rd generation.
Should the vehicle have a 4wd lock button or does it auto engage?
I can see no button..
Any help greatly appreciated...

it has two big buttons each side of the radio - on one side is the emergency flashers button, the other is the " diff lock" button - which engages the back wheels but automatically disengages the diff lock at 40KMH.

There is another button down near the cigarette lighter w hich disengages the Vehicle stability control. ( VSC ) - anyway thats what is on my manual gearbox RAV - I assume its the same for an auto transmission.

Hi it's auto all wheel drive and ther is a button in the left of the CD player to lock the 4 wheel under 40 km/h to be use in mud or sand

The starting price for a brand new 2013 RAV4 (base model GX) is around $35,000 driveaway. You can check the toyota website and find out prices for other RAV4 models as the price depends on model, engine and paint type.

Toyota RAV4 SX6 and Toyota ZR6, which one is better model?

1 answer
DarkEVO
DarkEVO

The Current models SX6 and ZR6 are models from the Toyota Aurion. For the Current Toyota RAV 4, there are 3 models which are the GX, GXL and Cruiser. Choosing which RAV 4 is better depends on what engine you prefer, either the Petrol or Diesel and the features you are after. In regards to the Toyota Aurion, that is a large sedan, its similar to the Toyota Camry but with a V6 engine. The RAV 4 and Aurion are both great cars that offer features depending on your day to day needs and your budget.

Any tips regarding driving my 2013 2.5 ltr. Toyota RAV on soft sand. Driving style, tyre pres. etc.
Would appreciate any help as I am new to this and don't want to get in a jam. Cheers.

1 answer
Goodonya
Goodonya

Firstly, buy a compressor and make it a good quality one with a metal attachment to fit onto your tyre valves. You will also need a good quality, i.e. accurate, tyre pressure guage. Check the terrain before hand, not all sand is the same and make sure there is a way out of it. Lower your tyre pressure to around 10 psi (70 kpa), and keep the revs up a bit! don't stop until you reach firm ground... you might also want a sand jack & shovel/spade as insurance if the going gets serious... an axe/hatchet is also handy. Watch some video of how to dig yourself out if you need to... but it should not come to that, keep driving! Most get stuck by stopping in the wrong spot. Use the compressor to pump the tyres back up to normal pressure as soon as you're done.

I have a Toyota rav4 model 2011, after running 45,000km I notice a clunky noise when applying brake. The Toyota service says it's not an issue to them and they said that if I want to get rid of the noise, they could grind the brake disc. Is this the best option? The tyre shop had noticed the problem when I got my tyres replaced and advices me to get the brake fixed ASAP. Thanks to share

2011... the car should still be under warranty, I would get it checked by Toyota service centre to discover exactly what the noise is... maybe it can be fixed by them under warranty.

Hi we know the 2002-2003 Rav4 have transmission problems. Can anyone confirm if 2000 Edge model auto have these same problems ? should we buy ?? help me please with your advice. cheers deb

Debbie, I've observed others talking about transmission problems, even on the 2000-2003 models but I've observed no such thing on my car. Our 2003 Cruiser automatic has had no issues and continues to be as reliable as the day we bought it. Since it is now 10 years old and just passed the 100,000 km mark I've started checking the oil occasionally but it doesn't use any! Maybe it's true that some RAVs have transmission problems but if that is true it may have been a particular batch. My RAV continues to pull smoothly and is normally doing 8km a litre. I'm not easy on it either, I'm normally the lead car in the pack. I lent the car to another family for a few weeks early in its life. We're a busy family. It's not had any special circumstances, but it continues to start and run trouble free. I keep on thinking I should replace it because it's now getting to 10 years but I can't see the point because it is so reliable.

AnilG
AnilG

Might be a bit late to mention it, Debbie, but we just had the transmission go last week on our 2003 automatic RAV4 Cruiser, at around 102,600 km. Apparently the ECU sends bad signals and damages the transmission. We spent $3,500 to get a refurbished transmission and new computer (ECU) and it's back to normal. I wouldn't let me put this off but you could use it to negotiate down a purchase price if the car is over 100,000 km to cover the risk. Mechanic says 1 in 5 automatic RAVs get it, up to a certain model (2006 I think I heard).

HI Art, Sorry I won't be any help....I haven't experienced this. Haven't heard anyone else with a Rav 4 with the same problem...literally we have had no problems or repairs aside from normal brake wear and tear. We have driven 134 000 kms. The only recall problem I have had fixed was something to do with a rear oil filter (or something like that)...I am not sure if my husband (who had the car before me) had a recall of the nature which you have mentioned...I am not sure if he had any recalls at all. Good luck!

Yes I also have a2006 RAv and now after 125000km have a clunking noise in the steering collumn hope itis not to costly to repair? Henk

Art
Art

Hi Henk, the intermediate steering column shafts I had replaced at 30k (which may be your problem) are approx $700.00+ labour, not cheap.
Toyota however did come to the party with the parts I only paid for the labour($200.00).I recommend you chase the problem up with Toyota .
You should never have to replace steering shafts for the entire life of the vehicle, yet here we are Henk having to replace them and both our vehicles have no travelled excessive kms.
There are a number of posts on Rav 4 world, USA website regarding the same problem, worthwhile cheking out.Good Luck

I am lookin 2 buy a 2.4l 4x4 Rav 4 in Fiji.curent mileage sits at 77000k's.absolute beautyful condition.Expatriate owned.should I be investing in this vehicle since from the review,I pick up that MPG is quite low, and with the transmission failures even though the vehicle is serviced by a dealer..

1 answer
AnilG75
AnilG75

I haven't seen any transmission trouble at all and my 2003 RAV is now 10 years old and has had almost no dealer servicing.

MPG is all relative. It's only a little lower (on my 2.0l model) than a Corolla, because it has the same engine but has to move the 4WD around. I'm getting around 8 km per litre after 10 years. I think the Corolla only expects 10 km per litre anyway. It depends what you compare it to and for what purpose. I think it's pretty good consumption for what you get.

I don't know about the differences for the 2.4 litre model.
