Hi looking at the difference between RAV4 2.5l AWD and RAV4 2l 2wd. Will be doing many local drives but also a few long distance drives (up to 2000km rtn) could someone give me an idea which would one would be more beneficial. Thanks

My car it’s 2.2 diesel I did very long drive from Melbourne to Esperance WA 6000km returns and Mel to cold coast and about 5 trips to Sydney I’m very happy with fuel efficiency between 8-9 L per with Aircondation running
My apologies for being unable to answer your question. I would suggest checking the fuel consumption of 2.5L AWD vs 2.0L 2WD on the statistics on Toyota’s website
I know that they do not make diesel options but only Petrol or Hybrid engines nowadays.
The fuel comparisons is available as per the link below:
https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/PowerSearch.do?action=noform&year1=2019&year2=2019&make=Toyota&baseModel=RAV4&srchtyp=ymm
Unfortunately, it’s mpg rather than kms per litre. :(
Hope this helps

Hi there..im planning to buy a rav4 2004 cv automatic but some people are saying the car is really good and some are saying these cars have a transmission issue..im confused would someone please guide me if i should buy or no ?
1 answer
Hi Nomi, The 2004 Rav 4 didn't have any more issues with the transmission then any other model. Generally, the auto's are really good. A test drive of the car will soon show you if it has any problems. Maybe take someone with you that has a bit of mechanical ability, when you look at it, so that they can put the transmission through it's paces. If it slips, noisy or even hangs on during a gear change, then you've got problems, otherwise grab it and enjoy the ride!

Anyone notice fuel tank filling issues ? heard in the US there are issues about tank cuts off at 3/4 and not being able to fill it up to its full tank capacity.
5 answers
To my knowledge, the tank in the XA50 is the same in all models. In Australia anyway. The filler neck doesn't appear all that long and once the fuel nozzle cuts off, there's very little room to squeeze anymore in. I can only get about 1 liter into thank once the bouser clicks off.
I mean the concern is if the fuel gauge indication as "full tank" is not accurate or true to specification; in other words tank not being able to take 55litres (as per the spec) and trip computer calculates range based on the actual fuel volume. A good indication will be what's the max range your trip computer calculates on a full tank fill up ?
I have done 6,000km since Oct 2022. No problems with fuelling. The only issue is that the empty fuel warning is very cautions. I have done over 100km after the zero DTE mark. Also, once the low fuel light comes on (about 50km DTE) there is no further update - just a warning to go to a petrol station.

What size cargo barrier do I need for the RAV4? Or does one size fit all the rav4s
3 answers
Hey Dawn. The cargo barrier is purpose built for the model that you have. I just fitted on into my RAV4 hybrid and it will only fit my model and not any others. There are "multi fit" barriers around, but they are not rated and are more of a fence, to stop dogs etc, but, would be no good at all in an accident.
Thanks for the reply zelly. Apparently there are different barriers for different year models. I’ve found the model number I need now just have to find who sells them.
@Dawn J. Contact a company called Autosafe Industries. They make barriers for a wide range of vehicles.

Hi, we are considering getting into the - long - queue for the RAV4 hybrid, and tossing up between the middle of the range model and the Cruiser. I have 2 questions:
- we see that the Cruiser includes a sunroof, which we would rather not have, given Australian weather conditions. Is it possible to opt out of this ‘feature’?
- we’ve read comments that the wide view camera on the Cruiser model is disappointingly low-Resolution. Could anyone who has this Model give me their feedback?
Thanks for any feedback

My RAV4 is due for delivery mid Feb so cannot respond to the Q other than say I have purchased the base model as the mid range has little more to offer. I have test driven a couple of times now and just love the feel of it
Ask Toyota about the sunroof, don’t really use the all round camera so not sure of resolution, seems ok to me when I look at it. Have cruiser AWD hybrid, great car. Fuel consumption claims a bit off more like 6.4 combined. Like you we don’t want the sunroof but it’s there.
I have a RAV4 Cruiser Hybrid AWD, sunroof is great - there is a cover to keep sun out if needed. They call it a moon roof - perhaps you are not supposed to use it during the day. My experience with the hybrid is that I am now getting about 5.6 l/100km everywhere, highway and around town. Fantastic car.

I have a 2022 RAV4 Cruiser. Does anyone have a problem with the accelerator being very hard to press and hold. I get a sore hip every time I drive it
2 answers
Hi Peter, Not normal to have a pedal that is hard to depress. I would strongly advise you take it back to your service dealer and get them to check it out
Or use the cruise control around town - much safer.

Looking at buying a 2007 Toyota RAV4 with 169ks on the clock for $7000 is this worth it, has anyone had any issues with this car?? Thanks in advance
1 answer
Hi Mandela, Seems like a very good price and I suspect that if it's in reasonable condition, it would be a good buy. Of course, check the transmission engine etc for the usual signs but these cars are pretty much unbreakable!

Have rav 4 2012, and fitted after market reverse camera. It will only work if you put the car in reverse before the radio appears on the screen ( you have 4 seconds approx., Toyota symbol first) if you beet the radio it will then work as normal until the ignition is switched off and on again. Has anyone seen this problem?

RAV4 2022 is different in every way from 2012. It has 360 Deg cameras built in. So cannot help. As cars and systems get more complex, there is little room for aftermarket products.
Strange answer mate????

Is it ok to use the rear fixed points for installing roof racks, or should it always be the front and middle sets? I would like to use the front and rear ones for more stability but no one seems to do this.

Hi we have just got a Rav4 2wd Auto 2012 Altitude and it is terrible on petrol! Only 360kms for a full tank. Anyone else have this car and can tell me how many kms you get out of a tank. General city driving, no highway or off road.
1 answer
Hi Rachel,
My brother had a 2012 Rav4 GL AWD and he tells me he usually travelled around 600 km on a tank of E10 petrol.
He had it serviced by his local garage and never had any problem during the 50,000 kms he drove before trading it in on another vehicle a couple of years ago.
His had a 2 litre petrol engine and it was manual, not automatic.
Your car may have a larger engine. If you have the Log Books you would know how regularly it has been serviced. Perhaps it is due for a service or at least a tune up. How a car is driven and maintained can make a difference to its performance. CPW

Is it a good idea to purchase a well looked after regularly serviced one owner 2010 rav4 cv manual with 290,000 kms or better to buy one with lower? Does it really matter?
