Great to drive - so well appointed
A pleasure to drive, handles beautifully. Interior is stylish and functional. Long trips no problem. Good fuel economy. Plenty of space in both cabin and boot. Great family car that is reliable and packed with safety features. Reversing camera and blind spot warning light great to have ( especially on the freeway).

Problems start to show XC60 D5
I wanted a smaller diesel AWD, and pretty much the only option was the XC60 in terms of safety and price in comparison to other European cars. We also already had an XC90, and although had some horrific problems with the engine, the XC90 was an older car, so I was prepared to take a chance on the XC60 being a newer 2012 model. However, with only 77,000 km's on it the engine is making a strange noise/rattle and now the gear box is playing up. It is now out of the three year Volvo warranty, so likely to cost thousands to repair. You can also...Read more
only take a newer Volvo to the dealer, given the sealed gearbox unit. Our experience with the Volvo dealer in Newcastle, McCarroll's has not been good. But have no choice. The options in the XC60, including safety are impressive. But this pales where the engine problems cost thousands to fix. The fuel economy in the diesel model that I have is great. But the road noise and engine noise of the diesel is significant. You certainly can tell the difference in noise level between a petrol and diesel engine. The ride in the XC60 is very bouncy, the suspension doesn't absorb even the smallest of bumps as you would expect in an AWD and even driving around the city the ride is very rough. The car has rear parking sensors and rear camera and without this option the car would be very difficult to park because the rear vision is very limited. Front vision is also limited with the driver sitting very low within the cabin and the bottom of the window above shoulder height and I'm above average height. I guess this is the price you pay for safety. Even though the seat is adjustable and you can raise it to see better over the bonnet, this actually then blocks your view of the odometer and other instruments because the steering wheel is then in the way when you raise the seat. There is plenty of leg room for passengers and the seats are comfortable and very nicely finished in leather. However, the rear cargo space is only just big enough for the weekly shopping and Volvo should have considered doing the split rear cargo door as they did with the older XC90. It is much more practical and stops objects rolling out when you lift the rear hatch. The handling of the car is also a little bit odd, the steering is really 'floaty' and there is a tiny delay when you turn the wheel before the car responds, which you do adjust to after awhile. But still weird. Overall, I'm disappointed with the car, especially the ride and handling, and certainly the cost to repair.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Very comfy, feels like an airplane, however very generous in fuel, 17lt/100km in the city...
Hello;
I recently acquired a 2011 Volvo XC T5 2.0 Petrol Engine- Automatic transmission.
I dont know what to say. Interior and exterior is just perfect, breathtaking. Driving this car really amazes you and it is amazing!
However the fuel consumption is really crazy. It consumes around 17lt/100km in the city, however I need to state that we do lots of short trips in heavy traffic. Despite that, it still is quite high...
If there was a drop down menu to choose so that it can express my feelings towards this car, it would be "it is complicated"
I still recommend it though, as it is a really nice one...

They do research on your car and charge hefty amount for diagnose without result..!!
Never take your Volvo at Austral Brisbane for service... they keep doing diagnose and charge very unreasonable amount even without fault find... they will again and again ask for more time to find the fault and at the end of the day you will be paying a hefty amount for their time of learning/research on your car without any outcome..!

Never had a car with so many issues
After 50,000kms the engine gave up and had to be replaced. The car had always been driven carefully and regularly serviced. Volvo was terrible and provided no support blaming the fuel quality in Australia. If fuel quality is no good enough for their cars wihy are they selling them? Anyway lots of issues as well before and after the engine blew up. Certainly my last Volvo.

Great car until the problems began
Purchased a new 2015 Volvo XC60 D5 R-design Polstar (top of the range) from the Gold Coast dealer in 2015. The car looks fantastic and was great to drive, it really is a nice car to drive, it's seats are excellent and the sound system fantastic overall I was delighted.
Sadly 1 year on, 28,000 km later the car developed this surge and jolting problem at various speeds which over time got worse and worse, the parts of the sunroof feel off, the drivers door inside feel off and the sat Nav system would randomly reset itself whilst driving.

e jolting and surge problem was the worst ongoing problem and it was dangerous. Austral Volvo Brisbane couldn't find the problem, in fact they ended up saying the car was fine and the issue was a characteristic of the vehicle. They were hopeless to say the least, Volvo Australia were even worse. When I contacted them I got a grumpy old man who couldn't care less about me or my car - not ideal for a new $65,500 car. I recently traded out of my Volvo lemon and I haven't looked back - I lost almost $20,000 on my poor choice in cars and know now to never buy a Volvo again. Volvo is on the way out, it was purchased by a Chinese company Geely in the GFC from Ford basically to get their safety technology Intel. It's a brand slowly declining in Australia. Their service is appalling and their vehicles are worthless crap boxes which leave you frustrated and down $20k.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Engine and Transmission Problems
I bought a used XC60 T5 with 30,000 miles expecting it would be a reliable SUV, but my XC60 did not meet my expectations of quality from Volvo.
Pinging/knocking noise from engine under low revs and load.
Powershift transmission whilst being 'automatic' actually felt very similar to a manual car with the rough gear changes.
Wish I bought a reliable Toyota Corolla for 20 years of trouble free motoring!

Another collection of ridiculous things.
The windshield wipers stopped working. Took car to garage, the computer was full of garbage messages. Cleaned out computer messages and the wipers started to work. Also, the "position light" notice no longer came up on he screen, the front LED light that had not worked for about a year came on, and the upper left parking light (also not working for some time) came on.
Just an additional note - apparently the rear fog lights are not a set. Only the left is supposed to light. I wish I had known this before I tried to replaced the right side bulb several times and became frustrated. The manual only refers to the one on the left side.

It Doesn't Get Much Better Than This!
Bought a D5 Polestar R-Design with the driver assist (see performance report further in review). It is an all wheel drive (AWD). I would love to have bought the T6 because it was so responsive but my environmental values around fuel consumption and emissions over-rode my emotions. (It takes me 2 seconds longer to get to 100Kmh but I use half the fuel).
What brought Volvo to my attention was an ergonomics conference they sponsored where they presented on safety and driverless technology. The technology in the current car reduces collisions by ...Read more

l level problem solved by Volvo technicians. There is a mini dip stick as a back-up at the front of engine down low on left (facing car). Make sure you feel it click back into position when you put it back in. In Australia the sat nav is not brilliant. Minimum distance based which in many cases means it takes twice as long. It doesn't have local knowledge smarts so I find myself consulting the iPhone App before I go somewhere. Perhaps there is an upgrade available (does anyone know?) One improvement (Volvo are you listening?) is the position of the USB phone charging point in the centre console box. Difficult to get to and difficult to plug into. We added a 2 point USB charger to the cigarette lighter thing between the drink bottle holders. If you want to get a good 0-100 time, turn-off the stability control, as it fights you to get away from the starting block. Then turn it on again before the kids drive the car!Similar opinion? Ideal SUV
Having owned a 2011 XC60 for 4 years we just bought another more recent model from a relative and it is even better, The R Design/Polestar has some small but valuable extras and is slightly quieter with better tyres for highway driving. We live in the country on a dirt road and it is fantastic.

2013 Volvo XC60 Front wheel drive Diesal
OK so I got heated seats, the Teknik pack, has the BLISS system, optioned up package. Diesal has good economy, but lags a bit when you plant the foot, then seems to take off, which tends to make it unpredictable in traffic for timing your entrance or moves. It can also mean you take off only to brake. I would like to see the lag less and the acceleration smoother.
It is smaller than a Territory, which I have had, but fuel economy and and comfort is not bad. In my car it isn't digital dash or instruments, it is analogue, and I can manage well...Read more
with that. I dont like the steering wheel spokes, your hand wants to sit where the spoke is, and repositioning is annoying, so it doesn't make is comfortable in that respect. Later models have fixed this. My seats are softer leather so have given a bit in the spread and hold of the seat, not as firm and fitting as before. While the back seats are firmer and less comfortable. Later models are made of harder or thicker leather, so will hold better on fit and comfort. I like the ability to change setting like door locking when driving off, folding mirrors, tank setting as to what you get and use, looking at the statistics it has. But do you believe it all anyway? I don't know but it looks good. The speech recognition for the phone connection via bluetooth is very receptive. The sat nav is really not up to date, or maybe where I have been roads are still in the planning stages. I had looked at Audi, BMW for the price range, but the Volvo was better placed in my opinion. I have entertained upgrading but having read other reports, I may wait until it reaches 3-4 years and see what it does. If it doesn't have the legs and resale, I wont be spending all the cash, given newer cars are more competitive in price if you are looking for an SUV/Wagon style. You can save 20-30,000 by looking at other makes, but I am not sure you would get the safety features a Volvo has. Times are changing, should Volvo look at pricing?Similar opinion? Luxury, style, safety and good value!
Purchased a brand new T6 Luxury earlier this year and have been really impressed!
What's good - beautiful interior, premium leather seats as standard and lots of power. Makes me want to go for a road trip every time I sit inside it. In my opinion, you get more for your dollar compared to the X3 and Q5.
What's not so good - heated front seats and sunroof are not standard. Fuel efficiency is around 15L/100kms for city driving, but note that the more efficient diesel option can be up to $10K more expensive, so weigh it up against the kms you drive each year.
Should definitely consider if you're already looking at a BMW X3 or Audi Q5.

Great versatile vehicle
Have owned my XC60 D5 since August 2010 when it had around 1000km on clock. Now has 52,000km. Almost trouble free. Problems only minor. Blown headlight bulb, hit a rabbit which broke plastic mesh under front bumper. Great car for around town or touring. Frugal on fuel. Copes with Dunedin hilly terrain well but fuel consumption rises to average around 10.5l per 100km. Can get around 7 on long trip. Have taken this vehicle across slippery farm land with no problems and have driven on snow covered streets without so much as a wheel slip.

Great car, and great looking
I still remember the first time I saw the XC60. It was on display in the Al Wadha Mall in Abu Dhabi, while I was working there. I thought, I have to have one of these when I get back to Australia. We bought the MY12 new from Scuderia in Sydney. It is simply a great car - unpretentious, spacious [two kids seats+prams etc etc] and great to drive.
Only reason for the non 5 star rating is the power steering issue. Discovered a leak after 4 months, and lost steering due to low hydraulic fluid levels. Google told me there had been a recall in the UK...Read more

XC60 T6 - 5 Star Lemon with knocking noise as characteristic.
Purchased a 2013 Volvo Technik T6 in July 2013 after lots of research. Within 10mins from driving away from dealers i noticed a very obvious "knocking" noise coming from front of vehicle. It sounded something suspension related. I called the dealer immediately who instructed me to return vehicle on Monday. I returned vehicle to dealership on the Monday and road tested vehicle with Service Technician. We didn't drive 100metres before he acknowledged there was a problem. Dealer then proceeded to "strip "car apart looking for problem. The car sta...Read more
yed there for a week where i was in constant contact with Service Manager who stated they had " no idea" what the problem is. Dealer called me a week later to say vehicle was ready for collection and they found the heater hose was expanding when hot and rubbing on suspension??? I collected vehicle and within 10mins again noticed ' knocking' noise from front of vehicle. I called dealer back again and they instructed me to return vehicle next week. I returned vehicle and again road tested with a Service Technician. He acknowledged problem again. Vehicle was left again and stripped down. A week later dealer told me they were referring it to Volvo in Sweden. Surprise Surprise Volvo came back as knocking noise being a "characteristic" of the vehicle. What the ?? Hard to imagine dealer spending 2 weeks labour plus parts stripping down car if they thought it was a "characteristic". I had an indépendant licensed mechanic and a mechnical engineer both acknowledge there is a knocking noise and file reports to state that it was reasonable to think a knocking noise would not be a characteristic with a $65k Volvo. I took Volvo and the dealer to the consumer claims tribunal. They pretty much threw all the evidence out and said i needed acoustics engineers reports etc and said they had no case to answer. I promised my wife prior to the CCT hearing whatever the result i would let it be. So im stuck with a $65k Volvo lemon with a knocking noise. I will be keeping it 3yrs and absorb a bit of the loss but i tell everyone i know, i would never ever again buy a Volvo. What a Lemon.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

I've had my D5 for more than 12 months now and love it. So economical, tows a 900Kg loaded camper like it isn't even there, roomy, well built. Only issue is a rattle from the right hand side of the passenger cabin somewhere. I just turn up the audio LOL. Handles muddy tracks well, which is about all I will ever do off the blacktop. Buying the car was a very pleasant experience from Trivett in Alexandria. After sales is also proving worthwhile.
Tows beautifully, economical, roomy.
Mysterious rattle in the cabin.

Swapped the supercharged AMG for the R-design XC60 T6 AWD Polestar as the family grew and I wanted something with some GO. Happy to say that I'm impressed. 242kw turbo charged straight six gives this model some serious momentum. It's surprisingly swift. Volvo XC60 T5 Auto MY14 - considering buying used with 100km on the clock. Can anyone advise of their experience with this model and XC60s with 100+ mileage? Thank you.

I was very disappointed with it.i found the electronic system complicated and irritating especially the GPS round dial. The car drove well enough but I didn’t find it a pleasure to drive. My main complaint was that the reversing camera took about 5 seconds to turn on after 6 weeks from new purchase and progressively took longer up to 20 seconds after 18 months. I considered Volvo completely unhelpful with this problem. Have traded the xc60 in for an Hyundai.
My experience probably doesn't suit. Bought a 2012 D5 diesel AWD with 80k on the clock. Have done 20k since then including driving on the beach and towing light loads. everything has gone well. Let the tyres down to go on the beach where my mate in his Isuzu got bogged. No problems at all, great fuel economy and comfort. Get mine serviced with a Volvo dealer. Not sure there is a better car on the market for the price
