Angelcare AC401 (page 3 of 4)

Terrible
I had the Anglecare AC201 (analogue) for our first child in 2004. When we got it out of mothballs, the interference and static was terrible. As I was very happy with the performance of this model, decided to upgrade to the digital version. From the above, you will see I’ve has a few problems. I really liked this monitor, but wasn’t willing to try for monitor number 3 to find one that works. It was really easy to use. Got a refund and have bought an Oricom 200 which is charging as I type. The Oricom doesn’t have sensor pads.
Using parent unit to...
Guess what - the unit came back from repairs with "no fault found", just to blank out after 3.5 hours again.
Hi, the only way I had the repairer acknowledge this fault was to take a video of it. The repairer finally accepted that fault and exchanged the unit, which didn't work (probably needed calibrating, w...
Read morehich they didn't do). The baby retail store where I bought it from wanted me to liaise directly with the repairer and distance the company from the problem. Consumer Protection in WA told me this was illegal as the contract of sale was between the store and myself. Once I went in armed with this information, I got a refund and bought the oricom.

Excellent
I can have my baby in her own room and don't feel the need to run in every 2 minutes to check whether she is breathing. I would not feel comfortable without the sensor pads and would never put her down to sleep without this product. I may be paranoid and terrified of SID's like any other parent, but this product has really helped me be more comfortable about baby's sleeping during day and night. I know SIDS can still happen but at least I would be in her room as fast as lightening if the alarm sounded and ready to take action. No false alar...
Read morems so far (3 months of continued use). Extra peace of mind. Sensor pads are a godsend. Price(but worth every cent) and there is some interference and static as there are only two channels in the model I have. I have the older model and the parents unit (white angel shaped device) does not have a clip so you can carry it around with ease and the volume adjustment knob could be better as it is hard to adjust.Bad
If the movement pad had worked properly this system would have been a 10/10! I will be returning it for a full refund... hopefully!
The sound detection option, you can either hear EVERYTHING or just the louder noises. The night light also comes in very handy.
The movement pad picked up the airconditioning and ceiling fan as breathing so was detecting movement even when bub was not even in the cot, we didn't have to the use the HOLD option because the alarm never went off! We tried everything to resolve this but in the end we really only needed...
Terrible
mlmac06, did you get your refund? Waste of money. Paying top dollar for a product that doesnt do what its supposed to.
The light
The mats pick up EVERYTHING. Brought this as my daughter had breathing problems in hospital, spend a fortune on it (as you would all know) and it doesnt give me the peace of mind as i thought it would. Worked perfectly while our baby was in our room, in cradle, with aircon, now that i have moved her to her cot with the fan on, it will detect movement even when she's out of her cot.

Not bad
On General, not a bad product. Does what is promises. Static is terrible despite of 8 channels. The problem I have is that parent unit switches off by itself, and I cant even know when it happens. It happened at night last night, and I dont know how long the monitor was not functioning (all charges and connections are correct and on). This is the SECOND parent unit I have got - the previosu one was doing the same thing. Will see how quickly they will fix the problem under warranty.
Temperature readings ar off by about 2-3 degrees.
great functions, movement detection works great
Expensive, needs mpt work on the development

Great peace of mind for parents
We looked around at monitors and being parents we were bamboozled by so many and so many opinions.
We took the advice of good friends whom had a 3 yr old and 18 month old boys to seriously consider the Angelcare and we are glad we did.
Haven't had static problems as others have, it has multiple channels to select if you have diff devices on the same frequency.
Our newborn sleeps in the cot in his room and we can hear the reassuring 'tic tic' to indicate there is movement ie breathing and moving.
Clear sound, range is about 100meters from base (through walls etc).Proven product, sensor pads under cot mattress, transportable if you want to take it away.
Slightly more expensive than other brands but worth it !

Love this, just bought a second for our new baby!
Absolute peace of mind with the breathing monitor. The temperature monitor is also great, especially in the colder months. Portable with good range. A variety of options in the settings so you can tailor it as you wish. If using the breathing monitor and you have a fan in the room: whilst the fan is on and the baby is not in the bed, turn the monitor on, wait 20 secs and see if the alarm goes off. If not, the fan is being detected as the babies breathing and you may need to redirect or not use the fan. Other than that one fan issue, the product...
Read more is fabulous. We've just bought a second one to use with our new baby as I'm not ready to give up the peace of mind the breathing monitor offers with my toddler. Love the breathing monitor. My baby's a log head so when she slept for 11 hours straight at only 3 weeks old, it saved me having a heart attack! It can be set so you only hear through the monitor when the baby makes noise to a certain level therefore there isn't constant static through the night. When you do hear noise through it, you can hit mute which works for around 20 secs - great to not also wake your partner. Parent monitor beeps if baby monitor is switched off while it's on - nice and safe. Can be set to beep if room gets hotter or cooler that a desired temp. The breathing monitor is designed to pick up the slightest of movements. So long as these movements are detected, the alarm won't go off if the baby stops breathing. If you use a fan in summer, test that the monitor won't detect this as the baby's breathing movement. In our case, we just needed to turn a pedestal fan away from the cot but others with roof fans aren't able to use them.Related Articles

Best product we have ever bought
This product is fantastic. The breathing sensors allow us to know that our little one is breathing properly and saves us from wanting to go in every 5-10 minutes to check that he's still okay. The temperature also shows on the parent units and can be set with an alarm if it goes above or below the temperature range you choose. This has been great as there have been a couple of times we've set the air con too hot, or let the room get too cold, and it always lets us know. The audio is great, we have one monitor upstairs in our room for when we're asleep, and one downstairs so we can monitor during day sleeps.
Great product, love the safety of knowing the alarm will sound if there's a problem, temperature display is excellent.

Couldn't have lived without it!
We bought this monitor when I was pregnant with our first child and have used it for both our children. It has been fantastic in giving us peace of mind while our babies are sleeping.
The movement sensors (which you put under the mattress) set off an alarm (one loud beep) if no movement (ie breathing) is detected for 20 seconds and a full alarm if no movement then occurs (continuous loud beeps). We had a couple of scares with our son - the full alarm went off once and we ran in and picked him up and he took a big breath. Phew!!! I can't bea...
Read morer to think what would have happened if we hadn't had the monitor. We have never had any problems with interference and the temperature monitor is also really useful. I would highly recommend the AngelCare monitor. Reliable.Find out how Angelcare AC401 compares to other Baby Monitors

Excellent investment for peace of mind
We are very happy with our Angelcare monitor and it helped me transition our bub to her own room. It was fantastic for peace of mind, knowing it would alert us if she happened to stop breathing. This allowed me to relax and get better sleep myself as I wasn't constantly listening for her or getting up to check on her.
We found it very easy to set up and it has performed brilliantly without fault. The temperature gauge is accurate and very handy, the display is easy to read although the viewing angle can make it hard to see sometimes but I co...
Read morensider this only a minor fault. The fact it is portable (can use standard AAA batteries) has been very handy as well as we have taken it with us when visiting friends etc without needing to take all the charging equipment as well. The nightlight is bright enough to see what you are doing in the room but not too bright that it disturbs baby or hurts their eyes if they have just woken. Overall, a brilliant product that we highly recommend to our family and friends. Easy to set up, reliable, lots of features, looks good- 41 reviews

Peace of mind
This was fantastic, having a very early bub with poor immature lungs having this product was essential. I was able to sleep a litle easier and after it alarming when bub was having aponeas i swear by it. PLease when setting it up keep in mind of above ceiling aircons. this interferes with motion somehow.
Well worth cost. Light was handy. Accurate
Super sensitive.
Excellent product
This monitor I have found to be fantastic. I must admit, we never used the breathing sensor pads because our bub had such seve reflux that he had to sleep virtually upright propped up on so much stuff that the sensor pads wouldn't have worked. However, as far as the sound sensor is concerned i can only say good things. We never got interference from other electrical appliances, phones and the like. Can hear dogs barking down the street through it, but you get used to what you need to hear and what you don't. I do a lot of gardening and I chose ...
Read morethis for the range - this was great and worked at the other end of the yard, halfway down the street, in the neighbours house etc. while I probably could have gone for a model without the sensor pads in retrospect, I will probably give them a shot if and when there is a number two! Nightlight is also great and soft enough that I don't think it will become habit forming. Reliable, sensitivity great, excellent rangeFind out how Angelcare AC401 compares to other Baby Monitors

One of the best buys for me and my family
This gave (and still gives) complete peace of mind that when my baby is sleeping and I can't physically hear her she is still fine. I can sleep more happily knowing that if something were to happen, an alarm would sound. I love that I can see the temperature in her room and the night light makes it great for night time feeds. Overall I would not be without this one.
The only drawback is that it takes a bit of setting up and it's not as effective with a ceiling fan on. (Still love it despite this though!!)
Complete peace of mind, see the temperature, night light is perfect
Takes a bit of time to set up properly and can't have a fan on or window open for it to work at it's best.

Peace of mind for mum and dad!
I love that this has a movement monitor which sounds a loud alarm if bub stops breathing for 20 seconds. As a new parent, I felt that I could relax when I put our son to bed knowing that I didn't have to check on him every few minutes to see that he was still alright!
The soft night light on the nursery unit is just the right amount of brightness, although the blinking 'pendulum' light is a little too bright and distracting. Having said that, it's nice being able to look up at the blinking light to know all is well. I also like the pendu...
Read morelum ticking sound that you can choose to have on or off, and the temperature display is a nice touch as well. If you need to change the settings for any reason, I found it to be a bit complicated and would always have to get the instruction manual out to check what everything meant. We have also had a couple of false alarms (only to the extent of the initial warning beep) as our son loves to lie right on the edge of his moses basket and possibly rolled off the sensor pads underneath the mattress. They were definitely false alarms as our son was wiggling around at the time at the edge of the moses basket trying to go to sleep. As another reviewer mentioned, there is a thin cord that runs from the sensor pad to the nursery unit. As our son is still in his moses basket, this means the cord has to run over the inside edge of the basket, which could potentially pose a strangulation hazard. Overall, this is a nice and compact little unit that looks great and gives us peace of mind. Looks good, works well, gives us peace of mind Occasional false alarm, changing settings is tricky (not intuitive) so you have to pull out the instruction manual.best baby product i ever bought!!!!
I bought this monitor for my son who is now 3 and am now using it for my daughter who is 6 months it has sensor pads under the mattress to give you peace of mind when your little one is sleeping it has a temperature monitor as well as the usual sound monitor and when your baby stops breathing it sounds an alarm both in the baby's room and on your hand held parent control no more worrying that they are breathing or not . I have had it now for three years and never had a single problem love love love it : )
clear reception no interference variable volume control
nothing i could find
Absolutely invaluable. Cannot live without it!
The Angelcare monitor with sensors is the best investment you could make for the safety of your new bubba.
We were going to buy just a sound monitor but opted for the sensor pads. A-Mazing. Love it! Love it! For a first time mama, the worry of checking on baby every minute of the night left me sleepless and stressed. The Angelcare has given me many a peaceful nights sleep, knowing that the sensor pads will detect and let me know if something is amiss.
Highly recommended,
Reliable, easy to use, provides complete peace of mind, great investment

Peace of Mind
We bought this as the lady in the shop (baby bunting) recommended it. I also looked on this site, and likes the reviews for it. We love it that our baby (who hated sleeping in his bassinet and so was in his cot from week 2) was being looked after even though we were up the other end of the house. We could hear him easily, could turn the sensitivity down (we didn't need to hear EVERY gurgle, however cute!) and loved the pads underneath. Peace of mind knowing he was breathing all the time...
The only thing that took a bit of getting used to was ...
Do not buy
I have this monitor and have had nothing but trouble with it. I have to move it back and forth when I put it on the charger to try and get the charger to pick up that it is on there. Parts of the screen have blacked out multiple times so I could not read the temp and recently it has started making a constant fuzzy noise. I have to turn it right down so I don't hear the constant fuzzy noise in order to sleep, which defeats the purpose of the monitor.
I am buying a new one of a different brand and would NEVER recommend this unreliable monitor to anyone.
When the screen is working i like that it has the temp. But really not much
Unreliable. Kept breaking down

Great for peace of mind
Great monitor only issue is had to replace power adapter after a year and a half and having constant charging issues even though i replace the batteries every few months. Not cheap for the rechargeable

Peace of mind
Gives great peace of mind.
It senses even the smallest breathe movement to reassure you your baby is OK - I keep forgetting to turn it off when I pick her up when she wakes at night and it goes off very loud, so there is no way you could sleep through it if your baby stopped moving.
There is an annoying feature were it beeps with every baby movement (i.e. every breathe) and it sounded like a heart monitor and my husband couldn't sleep through it. We had trouble turning it off (because we had no idea what it was or why it was doing it as a...
Read morepparently this feature is normally off when you buy it), but rang the manufacturer and they were great and helpful. Despite sleepy user forgetfulness and it going off in the middle of the night, it is easy to use and the digital monitor means the noise clarity is great. Easy peace of mind.
Really easy to use straight out of the box. No interference. Handy temp gauge. Small parents unit that doesn't look too awful. Nice long cord. Handy very soft nightlight.
Can be quite sensitive and give false warning alarms although the only 2 times the alarm has properly gone off we are pretty certain my sons breathing had stopped as he was in a very deep sleep and floppy when we scooped him up.
No interference. Easy to use. Handy temp gauge and nightlight.
Can be a bit sensitive.

Peace of mind - when baby sleeps mummy sleeps!
Love this product as it gives peace of mind that my babies are sound asleep - not crying or stopping breathing - when i would usually be out of earshot.
3 in one. its a thermometer, a sound monitor and a movement monitor. Peace of mind to me is definitely worth the price. also like that you can turn off certain settings when not needed. we continued just using the sound for our son when he was in a bed and the movement sensors were no longer needed.
it has gone off a few times. though unsure if these were false alarms or if they were life saving...

Every parent should own one
I bought this monitor for my second child. Since birth she has had a chronic respiratory disease. This monitor gives me the piece of mind that when she is sleeping I know she is ok.
It is also helpful in that I can hear what is happening as well as see what the temperature is like in her room
Reliable, secure, confidence building

I am having the same problem - my parent unit blaks out, and I have been given a new parent unit, which does the same thing. I dont even know how long the parent unit remains off before I notice the fault
