Lots of people are complaining about not getting their excess back when not at fault, but I have been with aami, anz and rac insurance for either my house, car or bundled insurance before and none of these companies give your excess back when not at fault either. I am pretty sure it's industry standard that excess is not refunded. Apart from that did anyone experience them not paying for repairs when a claim is made (regardless of who is at fault) or them taking forever to get your car fixed? I am thinking of getting them but either of those things would make me avoid them. Thanks in advance to anyone who replies :-)

A lot of companies have the policy that if you're not at fault and can provide the details of the other driver, you will get your excess back. With Bingle, the policy is you will get your excess back once they have recouped their cost from the at-fault driver. Not sure about damage repairs, but they paid me out for my write-off; although it has been over 18 months and I have not received my excess back, even though I was demonstrably not at fault, and provided damning evidence against the other driver. Also, even though I was not at fault, I still pay a higher premium for having made a claim. Their system does not account for who is at fault, it just comes down to: 1. Have you made a claim in the last three years? 2. Have they recouped their losses for that claim? Answers: 1. Yes = pay a higher premium. 2. No = kiss your excess goodbye.
Mel I think you need to shop around. I read Bingle's PDS and got an online quote for as close to the same cover as possible as I got online quotes from GIO, Suncorp and AAMI. Let me assure you that Bingle is not cheap for the cover they offer.
I or family members have had claims with these other insurers and got total satisfaction every time. Not one of them ever asked for excess payments up front. When an excess was payable, it was paid directly to the repairer on completion of repairs to my satisfaction. With both GIO and Suncorp (and I have proven this three times in as many years) there is no excess payable if the other driver is at fault AND you provide their name & address or their car registration plate number. I know this is a while since you posted your question, but I hope this helps.

Hi Guri, thanks for your enquiry. Your Bingle policy covers the reasonable cost of towing your car to the nearest repairer or place of safety if it is damaged and cannot be safely driven. Bingle does not offer a rating system or a no claim bonus, Bingle offers you your lowest possible premium price based on your driver and claims history and the type of car you drive. Bingle can cover drivers holding an international licence provided it is accepted by your local road authority. If there is anything else we can assist you with, please email us at [email protected], thanks, Ben – on behalf of Bingle’
