Folks, we just had our first cold overnight spell. And i think that my hot water system has done this before under sillier circumstances from memory.
It just would not provided hot water only cold, no matter how much water I let flow through the pipes. I tried at different times during the day to have short or long bursts of water but to no avail. Then phoned for help from the Bosch techs and asked for a service provider.
And asked for any tips or tricks of the trade to see if something would help.
The employee said turn on hot tap to flow. Then off.
Then for about ten times short bursts with one tap valve only, of on and off and one and off repeats to PURGE the pipes and mechanisms to kick start the hot water mode (My wording not his).
That did not seem to work as there was not hot water when I left the tap running for usual time.
So I tried it again - that did not seem to work either.
But intuitively I just let it flow a little longer as if the previous steps may have triggered something.
And hallelujah, warm water then hot water was steaming out without a lot of water waste in between, at the full pressure and with only one tap valve open.
I hope this helps someone else.
Hopefully I remember this for next winter.

my system works fine during the day, but at night it is very hard to get the system to work. all I can hear is the clicking which cuts out after about 10secs. I have to turn the taps on and off many many times, each time checking to see if it has lit. Eventually it does light up. But this is so annoying. I have skipped having a night time shower for several years, but I no longer have that option. Hoping that this is a simple problem to fix?

My 16H pilot flame ignites but doesn’t spread to main burners. I can ignite main burners with a bbq lighter .seems a bit of flame coming out of mesh( air intake?)under pilot light. This unit has been problematic and tried different pumps over the years.Any ideas? Cheers, Blair

the main flame is not starting because the system wants more water flow - if you stop the tap... wait 30 seconds and try again from completely off to full speed and even turn on a second tap - you may find that it will light.... if you are lucky - these units are useless :(
Thanks but doesn’t explain how I can light main burners with a bbq lighter while the pilot light is on .

This is because the system is not detecting sufficient flow of water. Turn the tap to max - if this does not work, then turn the tap off, wait 1 minute and turn it on to max as fast as you can... wait 60 seconds - watch as the system which claims to have a good energy rating wastes water.... if this does not work then turn all off again...
wait a minute - then turn on tap to max very quick - then go to another hot water tap and turn that one on as well to max.... - if this does not get you hot water then your water pressure is either not enough or your system is stuffed.
Do not try to turn the cold on at the same time until you have the hot working - and even when the hot works - be careful turning on the cold depending on your tap or shower attachments as this may slow the flow of hot enough to make the system shut down the burners again.
Sit back and watch your water bill and gas bill go through the roof even though these systems claim to be energy efficient.... obviously only under lab conditions with the perfect pressure.
Your other option is to take the cover off.
There are two user adjustable settings (at least on my 16H) - one shows 1 to 3 flame symbols - this is for adjusting the temperature from low to high flame... this can be increased for hotter water - but this is not your issue - you are not getting enough gas to light the main jets, only the pilot light...
the second adjustment is a knob below the slider - this adjust the flow of gas in general - turn this to max - get some one inside to turn on hot water to full - watch and see if it now lights.
if this worked you may then need to turn it back a little and or adjust the slider so that your hot water when it actually works is not dangerously hot.

Turn on the gas supply, water supply and a couple of hot water Fawcett's. When you do have a listen to the unit to see if it's fired up.
If not call the real estate agent or owner as it's their responsibility.
I turned everything off for hour then turned tap inside on then gas then water and it started straight away thanks

My advice.....get a qualified gas fitter familiar with Bosch systems to service the unit and check the water pressure,
gas pressure and heat exchanger are functioning properly .

Hi,
I have a 16H Bosch unit about 4 years old.
The unit lights up but will only heat up to Luke warm water. Flame looks OK, Water Flow is OK. Seems to be some sort of gas starvation. Rest of the LPG gas household appliances are working OK. Have changed the gas bottle in case it’s a bad bottle but no success. We have had the unit work normally on 2 occasions in the past week but it soon reverts to Luke warm again. Getting a qualified technician in very difficult due to the remote location. It would cost me the price of a brand new unit to get a technician onto the site to repair the unit. Could I please get a parts breakdown do I can check the gas route? My opinion is either the thermostat is reducing the gas flow or the regulator inside the unit has an issue. Thanks, John

How do you restart the pilot light?
1 answer
You don't. When you turn the water on it spins a small generator that ignites the gas. These font have a pilot light.

gday. I recently had a bosch 16h installed, it works fine but the temperature controls are not like the manual says. The gas control knob does nothing when I slide it, but when I change the water flow the flame changes and it will not ignite if I turn it more than quarter of a turn. Am I doing something wrong? or is it faulty? thanks Adrian

Robert B.Bosch Hot Water & Heating
Hi Sam, thank you for your question. If you are looking to conceal your unit, we suggest that you would need to make the enclosure out of a non-combustible material that is removable for servicing. Also the enclosure would need to be 500mm clearance to flue terminal. If you need any further assistance, please get in touch with us at 1300 30 70 37 any time between 7:30AM and 6PM (AEDT) on a weekday.

How to turn on and ignite a Bosch Hydropower 16 HWS ?

Robert B.Bosch Hot Water & Heating
Hi Brain, if your unit is struggling to ignite please turn off all hot water taps an try again. If the unit still doesn't work, you'll need to isolate the valves at the unit for 20 seconds, then open the valves and try again.
If after all this, the unit still isn't igniting, could you kindly get in touch with us at 1300 30 70 37 any time between 7:30AM to 6PM (AEDT) on a weekday, and we'll get you in touch with an approved service agent.

How do I light it
6 answers
Hello
The unit should light when you start water flow through the hot tap. When you open a hot water tap the flow starts & the igniter starts sparking which you would hear if you listen at the heater. We have found that the ignition sparks but the unit is spasmodic at starting and we now turn on one or more taps to get maximum water flow and it mostly starts after about 5 to 20 times. We are almost at the point of replacing with another make of unit and dread the arrival of our next water bill.
Thanks for answering I will try and see how I go
