BGS4220AU, BGS4SILAU, BGS4U120AU, BGS4USITAUVacuum Cleaners Buying Guide
Our buying guide will explain which type of vacuum cleaner would suit you most, how much you can expect to pay for one, and which features are worth looking out for.
My life is spent cleaning filters and tending to the oversensitive sensor light
This is a really bad product. The suction is good, but the sensor light goes off frequently - at least every 1-2 minutes. I spend more time cleaning the vacuum than I do actually cleaning the house. Rather than bringing back water torture, [name removed] should just be handed this vacuum cleaner if he succeeds presidency, as it is guaranteed to send a person mad.
After complaining about this product since I purchased it two years ago, I was told to 're-clean filters' and then told to, 'contact us again, if something wrong happens' and then ...Read more
I was given replacement filters. Now my warranty is up and apparently nothing can be done. This seems very manipulative, given how much I have complained about this product and instead of actually doing something about it, Bosch just stalled me until my warranty ended.1 comment

From totally happy to disappointed
I bought a Bosch BGS4220AU vacuum cleaner in Harvey Norman. As my dishwasher was Bosch and it was wonderful, I thought the other appliance of Bosch must be good too.
In first a few months, the suction of this machine was greater than any other vacuum cleaners I've used. I was very happy with my choice. But after about half year, the machine will stop after working 1-2 minutes every single time even after I cleaned all the filter. I am so disappointed.
Now I am so worrying about the "sensor control" light every time I clean the house. I have to do only a small area each time. Floor cleaning is a big trouble for me now.
I wonder if this problem can be solved.

Terrible keeps cutting out
bGS 4220AU OK for first few months but keeps cutting out even if all filters are cleaned. Spent too much frustrating time cleaning vacuum cleaner instead of house. Went to Harvey Norman and they replaced filters. Same thing happened. Returned it again only to be told I must have a very dirty house. I left it there is disgust. Won't buy Bosch again, won't Buy from tweed heads Harvey Norman again.

Sensor technology terrible
At first this had great suction. Problems started about 6 months after purchase. Now sensor light goes on after 1-2 mins vacuuming even after cleaning all filters numerous times. Bosch won't refund/replace - have to go to Repairer. This is the worst applicable I have ever bought and won't be buying Bosch products in future.

What a nightmare!!
All I wanted was a reasonably priced, bag-less vacuum that would be able to clean a 4 bedroom house (carpets) and a tiled living area. Not a big ask. From the moment I got it home and starting using, I immediately had to remove the filters and clean them. I spend more time cleaning the numerous filters than actually vacuuming. Well after 6 months i am well and truly over it. I did the right thing and read the manual and was in disbelief that it wouldn't suck this up or this could become clogged easily. Trust me I hate vacuuming so it isn'...Read more
t too much to ask for it to be able to do 20 minutes of work every few weeks. This is the most frustrating piece of equipment I have ever had to use in my life. If only the person at Harvey Norman had explained these faults i would have definitely not chosen it. Steer clear of this vacuum if you want to keep your sanity!!! AAARRRGGGHHHH!!! So far so good
Suction is fantastic, the flow control is a handy option going from carpet to rugs to hard floors. Nice and quiet compared to our old dyson, easy enough to maneuver around the house though not as smoothly as the dyson. The filters trap alot of dirt and dust which is great, sure its a bit of extra maintenance but id rather that than the extra dist and dust remaining in our carpet. Have only just purchased the vac so im keen to see how it performs in a years time when most people seem to be finding problems with the machine and after sales support.

Two years of hell
The suction is very good. I can not use on my parquetry as it scratches. It is good to maneuver around. It is no wonder it was discontinued. I had to use my product care to get a new one. The red light would not go off then it would shut off. Bosch repairs did not fix it. I don't use the new one much as I am scared I would have the same problems.

Broke after 1.5yrs
As other reviews, was great at first, now shuts off after 1 Min of light vacuming for no apparent reason. We live in a small 2 unit apartment and so barely use a vacuum, usually just sweep. A lot of money for something we barely got to use and I thought ours only had 1 yr warranty so now too late to do anything about it

Terrible can not vacuum 1 room
Followed all the instruction and it still shuts off. Made sure all the filters were clean and you will only get about 1-2 mins of vacuuming. Paid a lot of money to Harvey Norman for something that should not be sold as a vacuum cleaner cause it doesn't do the job. Come on, Bosch I see you have discontinued it now how about taking them back and giving the customer's there money back. We really can not use it.

Okay but terribly frustrating.
It's okay but the cord recoil is frustrating my hubby. We've had ours for over a year and it works okay. Has good suction and easy to use, has normal attachments but the lead/cord recoil annoys my husband very much so much he's looking to sell it to get a new vacuum and not Bosch. Its highly sensitive that a step or a teeny pull will just send the cord whizzing back quickly. This will happen on numerous occasions while he vacuums the whole house. We really expected more from Bosch. Sadly this vacuum did not reach our expectation. A normal vacuum will do the same job for a fraction of the cost. I feel it's not good value for what it's worth. I wouldn't recommend.

Faulty unit under warranty, terrible customer service
Vacuum started out working fine. Good suction, relatively quiet. Only downside was how messy it was to clean out the canister. Always ended up with dirty hands as it isn't a truly sealed system.
One year into its life, it developed problems. I have no carpet in my home and no pets, so this vacuum had a pretty easy job. Filters were always cleaned, but the machine would overheat and shut down continually. The sensor light got to a point where it relentlessly kept coming on and shutting down the machine.

year warranty with Bosch, which is excellent. I purchased it at Harvey Norman, returned it to them, and was told it needed to be assessed and should take a week or two to be resolved. If there was no fault found, I would be liable for the cost of getting it assessed. Thankfully, the machine was deemed to have motor failure, and it has now taken one month to the day to get my money back. So! Personally I'd stay away from this model of Bosch vacuum. It isn't up to Bosch's usual high quality standards. Check the Harvey Norman website for people that experienced the exact same things I did with this exact Bosch vacuum model. Buy at your peril!1 comment

BOSCH BGS4SILAU CANNOT HANDLE HAIR
I decided to follow through with this review after I spoke to Bosh regarding my genuine problem. After purchasing this vacuum cleaner I raved about its quiet disposition and the incredible suction. It took up dust like you would not believe. However after the end of the first vacuum I noticed the automatic sensor went on and reduced its power dramatically... indicating the filter had to be cleaned. upon opening the main filter (one of 3 mind you) which is a cone I noticed that there was hair wrapped entirely around it. Along with this was a ...Read more
stack of dust that found its way in there due to the hair blockage. I removed it and hoped this would not happen too often. Short version is I had to do this every single time and sometimes halfway through a vacuum session. So now I am cleaning the cleaner?? TWICE in one vacuum. I called Bosch and they suggested using the turbo brush with the bristles to pick up the hair. After doing this it I didn't have to clean it from the filter as much but then had to clean the hair off the brush which was a tangled mess. I had to cut the hair off with scissors...TOO HARD, TOO MESSY AND DEFEATS THE PURPOSE OF VACUUMING. We have 3 girls in our place all with long hair that will drop occasionally (girls will get this) Basically Bosch did not care about my problem and so I am left stuck with this vacuum cleaner that I don't want to use. Thanks Bosch!!.... think you need to take this one back to the drawing board as it obviously has a design fault. Also I have noticed there are a stack of Bosch Vacuum cleaners that are discontinued??1 comment

The vac sensor light comes on after a few minutes.ive cleaned every filter and still have this problem every time.is this model faulty?
2 answers
Hi Bill.
I've been through this with mine too. In my opinion it is a design flaw of this model. I tried everything to stop that red light coming on! The good news...contact Bosch, the number is on the machine. They refunded my purchase in full (the machine was over 3 years old) and I have since bought a different brand. Whilst I was very disappointed with the vacuum the customer care was very good.
