This shaver burns my skin. The Shop said when 2 pieces of metal rub together they get hot. "So burning my skin is ok
Rubbish. When I complained to Braun they said nothing, no reply. Shaver Shop, Garden City said when 2 pieces of metal rub together they get hot. What a dick. Rarely

I have always bought Braun from this section of retail. I forgot to take the S5 out of my carry bag when the bag got mould all over it on bathroom floor. I placed the bag - with the shaver inside it not knowing it was in it - then put the in very hot water and Dettol. realising what I have done, I wiped it down & got it to charge up in full. It works as though nothing has happened!! brilliant Braun!!!

Stopped working during warranty period. Was replaced. Now its connector is broken.
Purchased in March 2020. Stopped working in September 2020. Shaver Shop replaced after a month or so. But less than a year later, the replacement one started making noises and started working only sporadically - now I find that one of the two pins of its connector wire is broken. Definitely not the German quality I was expecting.

I initially purchased this shaver just replace my cheap Aldi one. I am so impressed with it that I felt compelled to write this review. I genuinely don’t write reviews, in fact this is the very first review I have written. I love this shaver. Compared to my previous one and any shaver I have ever owned it works beautifully. It caters to my sensitive skin, nice close shave and it’s so easy to clean. The self clean auto function in the charging dock had me giggling like a school boy because it impressed me so much.
Shaving used to be a burden and a chore, now I look forward to shaving. I highly recommend this shaver not only does it hit a home run in affordability but also functionality.

I was never happy with this razor even after I had just purchased it, but you cannot try and buy. I was shaving recently when I noticed that my face was bleeding, one piece of the foil had broken off which resulted in my skin getting cut. I mentioned this to my friend, who has a disabled son with the same razor and the same thing happened to him although he carried on shaving and had several cuts. The shops response to this problem is fair wear and tear, well the word tear is right it tore into my face. Time to get my 12 year old Phillips shaver out of mothballs, Perfect shave. The only reason for updating to a Braun was that the Phillips shaver looked a bit worn.
I know which one I will buy next time.
This shaver struggles to shave my sideburns and neck. It seems to prefer drawing blood over trimming the hairs in my neck. I have used Philips foil shavers with no problems. This shaver is heavy, bulky and struggles as soon as it moves from a flat surface. I gave it a go for 2 months and I'm ready to throw it. I cut less with a safety razor than this terrible electric shaver. Seriously don't bother with this brand. You get what you pay for and I think Philips shavers are a much better option.
Purchased in February 2021 for $200.
The foil cutter system developed a fault in the cutters after 4 months of careful use and thorough cleaning maintenance and was told at The Shaver Shop that the foils were not covered in warranty and would cost $45.00 to replace. I have used Phillips all my shaving career, this being my first experience with Braun, and it will be my last.

I have had a beard for near 40 years and have used everything from cheapie K Mart hair clippers to Phillip's mid range products, without doubt this is the worst product I have used. It does not cut close, it leaves clumps, it pulls, it cuts the skin. In short it is a disaster. Interestingly the product came with a disposable razor, I think they know their product is junk and provide this to give you a chance of a decent job.

My wife bought me this shaver for my birthday to replace a cheapie from Aldi. To say that I am disappointed with its performance is an understatement. You have to go over an area, again and again, and if there is more than one days growth, it takes twice as long. I don't have a heavy beard, so it should do the job easily. I've tried everything that is suggested in the booklet, but it still does a very ordinary job. I've tried to call, E mail Braun many times as I thought maybe there was something wrong with the shaver foils, but I got shoved fr...
Read moreom one person to another, and in fact one person gave me a number to ring that wasn't even in Australia. At least someone could have spoken to me about the problem. No answer at all from the last E mail. Very poor effort Braun. Don't waste your money on this product. I would never buy a Braun product again if this is the way they treat their customers. I hope that someone from Braun reads these reviews, and bothers to contact me.Purchased in May 2020 at Harvey Norman for $140.

This razor is terrible. I bought this shaver in the Black Friday sales. I get breakouts and skin irritation from manual razors, and this one is marketed to have skin sensitive technology and can be used wet or dry.
First use was a horrible shave. I used shaving foam with it and It left patches of hair intact pretty much all over. I nicked my lip when trying to go back. So I stopped. The second shave I used a shave oil because I couldn't see how well it was doing with the foam. Although I could see better, the quality fo the shave was low. Th...
Read moreird time I tried dry and gave up because it just won't give me an all-over smooth finish. I've watched instruction videos on YouTube because I thought I was doing it wrong. But frankly, its shaving and it shouldn't be hard. I will say that in the patches where it worked, the shave was really good. And it can be used in the shower which I also liked. But overall, I won't be using it to shave my face.Purchased in November 2022 at Shaver Shop Online store for $149.95.

The battery life of this shaver seems a bit short, only use a little bit over 12 months, and now it does not charge anymore. Anyone has the similar experiences? and does anyone know how to replace the battery?

Bought in Dec. 2017 and stopped working 3 months ago - braun replaced motor, pc board and battery. Now the same problem only 3 months later. I'll have to phone Braun again and see what they will do this time. My old series 5 is still working and actually is much lighter and faster and closer shave.

Purchased this shaver for my Dad for xmas and he absolutely loves it. He was initially a little worried as he had heard the series 7 was better, but it did not disappoint. It's an older generation and only marginally different to the 7, but was easy enough for him to use without cutting himself an easy enough to charge when needed.
The design of the storage unit with the cleaner isn't the best. It's a little lop sided and unsightly in the bathroom, but can be stored in cabinet if you have a charging point. Not ideal for travel.
A really fantastic gift idea.

This shaver has a feel of solid quality in the hand. The motor feels and sounds powerful, and has a stronger vibration than my previous shaver, a Philips rotary. The stronger vibration takes a little bit of getting used to when you're against bone. The battery life is very good - more than a month between charges with daily use. The beard trimmer works fine as long as you don't try to go too fast.
However: at first the shaver gave me a nice close shave but now after about 5 months of use it's leaving too much stubble. I wonder if there is a s...
Read moretubble build-up inside the foil where I can't see. I've cleaned the shaver every day as the salesperson advised me: rinse through the foil with water, and then spray with "Shaver Guard" cleaner spray daily. My shaver didn't come with the Braun 'Clean & Charge Station' and I didn't think I'd need one since I could keep my previous shaver clean by dissassembling and cleaning it out; but the Braun doesn't seem to dissassemble like the Philips. So I'm disappointed about the drop-off in shave quality after such a short time.Purchased in October 2018 at Shaver Shop for $159.

My husband needed a new shaver. Mostly has had Braun shavers for the last few decades so he went for a new Series 5/5140s.
He only uses it for shaving the corners of his mouth and the dimple on his chin to save on cutting himself!! He says it does a good job for that. He hasn’t tried it as a wet shaver. He then uses an ordinary razor/blade to complete the shave! He prefers it that way as he claims he gets a better result for him.
What I found annoying was that all his previous Braun shavers had come with a charger stand. Somehow we assume...
Read mored this one did too. No it didn’t. (I think there are other Series 5 that come with some sort of self cleaning stand that was big and bulky and more expensive) I let it lay about in the cupboard for a few weeks, taking up extra room, before attempting to find out if there was a stand that fitted. I rang the Shaver Shop where we purchased the shaver. No, nothing sold like that! I tried Proctor and Gamble who are the distributors of Braun in Australia. They sent me to a WA supplier for parts. He couldn’t find anything on his system and said there wasn’t anything available! (A subsequent email to P&G did suggest I contact other parts suppliers - in other states, I suspect.)Questions & Answers
How do i use the smaller razor on the back is it supposed to slide off if not how do i turn it on
I think you charge it up with it switched on
It's a trimmer for sideburns and long hairs.. Press the small button in the middle and slide upwards whilst the main razor is running. They both operate at the same time off the one motor.

What did reviewers think about the Braun Series 5 Electric Shaver?

Some reviewers found that the shaver offered a close, comfortable shave, while others found that it was a bit difficult to achieve this.
