I am sharing my recent experience with Bravecto in the hope that other pet owners make a more informed decision before using this product.
After years of using a topical tick and flea treatment I made the almost fatal decision of giving my 12 year old dog the Bravecto 3 month chewable tick and flea treatment for dogs.
It was the third time I had given her the treatment and looking back I think that the adverse reactions started after the first treatment. I noticed that her back legs would shake uncontrollably however at the time I did not ma...Read more
ke the connection and just assumed that it was due to her ageing. I continued with the use of Bravecto and unfortunately 2 weeks ago I gave her another 3 month chew with devastating affects. Within 6 hours of her taking the Bravecto she had a seizure that was so intense that I am shocked but so grateful she survived. She went on to have another 2 seizures in the next 48 hours. I immediately sought treatment through my local vet who told me that this could be a side effect to the Bravecto and that it may not be suitable for some animals especially of her age. I also attended a 24 hour veterinary hospital and was told the same thing by the vet that treated her.Purchased in May 2021.

For fleas and ticks
Before I knew of all this :My dog since he was 6 months old to 4 years old has been taking bravecto, not one problem. I read the reviews and didn’t give it to him (One year, last year), frightened because my dog is my best friend, and was scared after reading all the bad. As spring and summer are nearing my dog has been getting flea bites and itching way more I noticed. He is super sensitive to a single flea bite and It makes him sick and lethargic to get them, Almost like a allergic reaction to fleas. Poor thing. he’s a house dog. Decided to...Read more
start bravecto again since no problems ever. I don’t see any issues as I didn’t in the past either. I feel so bad so many dogs were affected negatively. It benefits my dog . IT works . he gets absolutely no fleas and has never had a tick in his life!!! I don’t see him sick at all, no seizures, not breathing heavy. I really took a good look at him this time. He’s in bed w me right now perfect. I think dogs like humans get different reactions to different medications. I wonder what the true statistics are in percentage of dogs being allergic to this medication . I’m so sorry for the tragedy as I would be so heartbroken. Not sure why my dog does so well with this medication and other dogs do notPurchased in May 2021 at Direct Vet Supplies for A$50.00.

Cat severely burned
I was recommended Bravecto by friend who swears by it how awesome it is for her cat. However when I used it on my cat his skin got totally burned (after only 12 hours of being on his skin) to point that was bleeding and I end up taking him to vet so he can get prescription meds so his spot can heal. Even the vet said that she has seen this happen several times in last months to cats and she will not be allowing more refill to cats. Was severely disappointed and heart broken for my cat the amount of pain and discomfort he went through. took over 4 weeks for spot to clear from bleeding and 3 moths for hair to start growing back. I wish I knew how severe the the hives and breakout can be from it.

Got a gut feeling this has ruined my dogs health.
First used a year ago, my dog a border collie, did not want to eat it at all, I ended up pushing it down his throat in bits. A few days later he had fits and lost all sense of balance. Vet said it was vestibular disease. Though he is now blind in one eye and after having another bravecto in July last year he had another episode of so called vestibular disease. I have given him another tablet today, before I had read about adverse effects of the bravecto tablets. As he didn't like it I mushed it up with dog food and bacon, which he eventually at...Read more

Dont use this product
I hate myself for giving this to my 2.5 year old Rough Collie. ONE day after giving him the medicine, he started having localized seizures. He would twitch, pant, and lick like crazy. He was scared and there was nothing I could do except wait for his episode to pass. One week later, same situation. Localized seizure with muscle spasms in the front and hind legs, panting heavily, licking me frantically. The vet put him on Methocarbamol which is a muscle relaxer. He has not had an episode since then, but it’s only been two weeks since he went on ...Read more
the medicine so every night I pray to god he won’t have another episode. He also has had diarrhea every day non stop. Horrible liquid, projectile filled with mucus. His blood panel showed his liver was elevated due to toxicity. Please if you love your dog, Dont give them this pesticide!!!!! I can only wait and pray for my dog to get better over the next few months.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Never Again
I was hesitant to give this product to my new puppy as I have read about dog deaths attributed to Bravecto. This was the only product offered to me for flea and tick protection by the vet. I asked if the product was really safe as it is an internal pesticide and was told that the vet's dogs all take it. I really should have declined, but figured I would give it a try. My poor 12 week old pup started vomiting hours after taking it and remained lethargic and sickly for over 24 hours. Thank god he got over his symptoms, but I felt horrible for not...Read more
saying no to giving this product to my baby. Over the course of the 3 month period, he has had hair loss around the base of his tail and I see absolutely no effect on fleas or ticks. I will not treat him with any other products until the 3 months have passed as I do not want any further complications. I will NEVER give Bravecto to any of my beloved pets again and I feel lucky that I still have my baby as many others unfortunately do not.Purchased in January 2021.

This product killed my best friend.
My Aussie bulldog was a fit healthy pup.
After her 1st dose of bravecto at 6mths, she became very Ill after months in and out of vet clinics with no one knowing what it was even with lots of tests and a op to see if some thing was a miss and it wasnt! She slowly got better. Her second dose has been the killer! She seemed fine for first week maybe bit longer as she was at my mums. Then she became very very Ill sh seemed off so was taken to the vets where age started fitting and would not stop. .
They put her out to it and kept bringing her back...Read more

Bad reaction to chew
After getting my dog to take the chew he has been licking his rear and hassling and pacing all night.

Will not Chew or Swallaw
Unsuccessful in getting dog to chew and swallow Bravecto. Will wrap a treat around it, and she will isolate and spit it out. My vet charges $55 per 3 month dose. I tried unsuccessfully and had to discard. My dog has no problem with Heartgard and eats it like a treat. Will look for a better alternative for flea and tick prevention.

Really, No stars at all
I had 3 Llahsa Apso's - 2 of them had definite neurological issues after using bravecto for up to 2 plus doses over a period of time (roughly 6-8 months). I recall discussing it with the vet in 2016 who indicated they were not aware of issues. I also recall later halving doses even though I had bought the product suitable for small dogs.
The mother of the two puppies eventually lost her ability to walk in a straight line without falling down, seemed disorientated and mostly slept.
One of the puppies died after much suffering, ie lack of or...Read more
ientation, lack of ability to walk in a straight line which developed into not being able to walk at all. She was sadly euthanized after no longer being able to raise her head. Her mother outlived her, but I believe neither dogs lived their lives to its full potential burdened as they were, with neurological issues. I should have risked flea and ticks - but living in a high tick zone I did what I though was best at the time. I will never use or recommend this product.Similar opinion? Ruined my dog
Took my beloved seven year old dog to the vet and he was diagnosed as having ear mites. The vet gave him Bravecto as it would apparently also clear the ear mites. He became lethargic and within two weeks started losing weight rapidly, also constantly chewing at his paws. I also noted that he started drinking huge amounts of water. At seven weeks he went totally blind within a period five days. Bravecto didn't do anything to to clear the ear mites. The vet then diagnosed him as being diabetic and gave this as the reason for his demise. I still don't believe it to have been coincidental that he suddenly became diabetic after ingesting Bravecto. He was a perfectly healthy dog, except for the ear mites, before he was given Bravecto.

Causes Seizures
After giving my 15 year old dog a 3 month Braveo chewable for fleas and ticks she was unwell for a while and later started having seizures. I took her to an emergency vet where they did tests, diagnosed her with a brain tumour and put her on seizure meds. 6 months and over $3,000 later, while I'm estatic she doesn't have a brain tumour, I wouldn't recommend this product to any one.

Read all the reviews on here and take warning!
Please take warning of all the reviews on here. I wish we would have seen this before. I trusted the vet who prescribed this to us (as most of us do) and thought this medication was safe for dogs. This medication (insecticide) is clearly going unreported. It only came out in 2014 and because there have not been undeniable links proving this to be the direct cause of death in dogs, nothing is being done about it. The company can easily state that perhaps it was something else that caused the symptoms. Large companies can get away with a lot by ...Read more
finding loop holes and having lawyers to protect them. Pets are treated with less regard than humans. I guarantee you if this was a medication being prescribed to people it would have been off the market by now. Heres the facts on what we have experienced: - we have given Bravecto to our 13 yr old dog 3 times within the past year - each time he experiences lethargy, heavy breathing, unable to eat for days, uncontrollable diarrhea, vomiting all over the house and is literally unable to walk. We have to pick him up (80 lbs) and carry him as he cannot stand. - unfortunately we have never connected the dots until now. This time, he is unable to lift his head and we think he is dying.Purchased in January 2021 for A$80.00.

Have there been these sort of adverse affects with the spot-on product?

I had used spot-on frontline for years on my dogs without adverse effects except with the possibility of one dog which did have symptoms of having a stroke with a fit thrown in for good measure. The impregnated collars seem to be the safest option.
