Horrible - don't buy this !!!
I purchased the BTS 200 yesterday at Harvey Norman. What a massive disappointment. I used today the first time - following the instructions provided - but unfortunately when i opened it after 3 minutes the sandwich slices hadn't been sealed and as a result the cheese had leaked and is now solidly baked onto the - so called - non-stick surface. There is no way that i can get the stuck bread and cheese off without scratching the surface. If Harvey Norman doesn't provide us with a refund then the only choice I have is to throw it in the bin.
Very disappointed with Breville and will definitely not buy anything from this brand again.

Poor surface
The surface is coming off and sandwich is sticking and tearing.
Really disappointing that Breville invented this product and hold a world wide patent on the cutting action of the toaster.
And it appears this is a common problem, I would think that under state laws in Victoria Australia this product is not fit for the purpose it was sold !
I think you should contact me Breville Australia.......

Definately nothing like the "Original" - The product is rubbish and a waste of money
I would give it zero stars, but that doesn't seem possible. Here are my reasons. I grew up eating jaffles from a Breville sandwich maker, and was delighted when I discovered you could still buy them. I bought one of these machines several years ago. The non-slip legs on the machine itself began to fall out. The green cover of the "ready" button fell off, and then all of the information about the non-stick that you are reading here also happened to me too. I found the sandwiches were starting to stick. Margarine, butter, regardless, they ...Read more
stick. To my horror, I realised pieces of black metal were in fact coming off on my sandwiches after only a few uses. It gets worse and worse, with every use, so that that your sandwiches become an annihilated mess, and the machine is unusable. The only way to get them out is to scrape them off. Silly me, I thought I must have had a faulty product, so I put it in the bin, and purchased yet another one. So keen was I to get my jaffles. Unfortunately, EVERYTHING I mentioned above has also happened with the next one. The legs, the light cover and the non stick failing. It is rubbish, and should be taken off the market. DON"T BUY IT! Can anyone recommend a Jaffle maker that actually works?3 comments

Dreadful.
Dreadful. Don't buy it. Wish I'd read about it before purchase. EVERYTHING sticks. Your sandwich WILL fall apart, and all the bread will stick everywhere. Your sandwich will look like paella.. It just will. I felt great nostalgia purchasing this maker, taking me back to a childhood of toasties. I tried. I really did but it's GOING IN THE BIN. Just. Don't. Buy. It.

So... Breville were very quick to communicate with me, and have been extremely helpful. They are hoping to resolve my issue. I certainly appreciate the actions of a company, who are willing to assist so quickly.
As a follow up, Breville have sent me a new machine to replace the one I had. So far, it has worked quite well. I'm wondering if there had been a batch that was faulty. So I would say, that if you pur... Read more

Flakey Teflon
It's a shame the Teflon coating in these sandwich makers are so poorly done, Breville must be aware of the problem but fails to address it. I say this because I replaced my original after the Teflon came off and the replacement did exactly the same thing. It's a health danger to the public that Breville hasn't fixed and they should be accountable for this.

I think forwarding an email to customer service is a pretty underwhelming response. I’ve never been contacted by Breville regarding this known health risk.

Teflon comes off and sticks to sandwich
Very disappointed with this item. do not use it often and I have found the Teflon has come off. the sandwiches stick every time. It is a nightmare to use because of this. I have no idea where receipt is and it is about 15 months old. So disappointed and we buy a lot of appliances.

There is a design Fault with the product
We have purchased 2 Breville original sandwich presses and have found that the teflon non stick coating on the edges breaks down almost immediately with regular usage. Regardless if you use silicone scrapers or the soft touch approach by slowing dissolving the bread and cheese remnants to clean, It will still break down and you may be delighted to know you are eating teflon chips. There is a design fault and something which, I think, Breville is no doubt aware of but fail to repair or even consider the health of consumers.

It's rubbish!
I bought this thing to make jaffles for the kids and I at home because we do the jaffle thing out camping on the fire and they're great. They're not even non stick. But this thing doesn't cut properly and always sticks to the top and rips the bread apart when opening. Right from the first time I used it. I've tried butter, margarine and even tried spraying with oil before putting in a buttered one. Nothing seems to work. It's mainly where it's supposed to cut and I find myself using a silicon spatula to try and pry it away from the "Non Stick" ...Read more
surface. It's getting worse the more it's used and now sticking to the bottom and sides. I haven't had the peeling and bubbling of the surface like others have said but I'm not waiting for that to happen. It's going back to the shop! I'll update my review after I speak to the good guys where I bought it. *Update* The Good Guys were true to their name and refunded the full price. I then bought the four slice Sunbeam, it's been great! But I'll review it separately. CheersSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
This product is very poor quality.
Breville should be ashamed of themselves for charging $38 for such rubbish! We don't think the non-stick surface is very good nutritional value! The person who has only had their sandwich maker for one month is going to be in for a rude shock. Breville should issue a product recall notice and not sell any more of these!!!

Very Poor
Do not waste your money on this sandwich Toaster It does NOT seal the bread and within four months of purchase the so called NON STICK surface started to come of the plates This coating is sticking to the bread and so is being eaten. After this coating coming off progressively and so the so called sealed sandwich becomes a complete mess
This product is very, very poor

Completely disappointed
My partner was given this sandwich maker by his mother for his birthday in May 2014, and by November 2014 small patches of the teflon coating was starting to lift. In December 2014, the sandwiches were sticking to the sandwich maker so badly, it was a massacre trying to remove them. My partner was so cranky that he cut the cord off and threw it in the garbage bin. I always purchased Breville as it was a trusted brand (almost all of my appliances are Breville brand), but after contacting them, their disinterest in this issue has left me disappoi...Read more

Poor quality. Nonstick surface all corroded/flaking and ruining food
Bought this from Big W April 2013 to replace an older breville sandwich maker that stopped working. Initially ok, but after some months the nonstick coating started to come away, especially where it's meant to separate two halves of the toaster. So now what happens is that when you open the unit, most of the bread sticks to the exposed metal, nothing comes away cleanly, all your fillings spill out onto the bench top and basically it's unusuable. this happened before the 1 year warranty ran out but stupidly I thought it wouldn't get any worse, a...Read more
nd of course it has. Basically, the idea is good, but very poor quality product. If the nonstick coating hadn't come away and it performs as it did for the first 6 months I'd give it a 5 star review, but long term ownership has proven this to be a very poor investment.Similar opinion? Disappointing
We had our Breville sandwich maker for a year or so. Right from the start sandwiches would become stuck to the machine, both bottom and top cooking plates. We mainly make cheese toasties and a machine like this should be able to handle melted cheese easily.
The supposedly non stick coating flaked off in bits over the months. Luckily it cost less than $40 so not too much money was wasted.

Not as good as my last sandwich maker
I've had this model for quite a few months now and although the rest of the family are happy with it, I find it's not as good as the last one I had. It's as if there isn't enough contact between the bread and the plates for it to get that nice crispy, golden crust. My last machine really had the bread turn brown and crispy and this one just doesn't no matter how long I leave it. Having said that the actual product is sturdy and functions properly, just not the way I like it to.
Sandwiches don't brown and go crispy

Now thrown in the bin! Sandwiches stuck to the "non stick" coating and were impossible to get off no matter how much butter was used.

Great! Its a ripper
Have been using this almost daily since purchase 1 month ago, It is faultless as are my other Breville appliance collection.
Was a bit disappointed at first with plate size, until it was suggested to me to purchase 800 gram loaves available at Woolworths and elsewhere cooks to perfection and so easy to wipe clean.
I do not pre-heat as suggested in instruction book, I butter fill and close and power up when I am ready....Yum! made apple & cinnamon with puff pastry as a trial run two nights ago perfect on a cold winter evening.
For the $38 I paid at Big W its a bargain.
Faultless and Inexpensive very easy to clean.

Great, mess free toasted sandwiches
After many years with my previous many good brand sandwich makers, I bought this. I love that the cord at the back is protected so any potential spills don't get caught in the coil.
The plates are deep allowing generous proportions of filling. The only time I've had overflow is where I overfilled the sandwiches.
It cuts nicely and browns beautifully. As an alternative to buttering the outside of the bread, I use a quick spray of canola oil.
Just remember, the trick to a great toasted sandwich is to ensure that there is enough fulling to fill out the gaps but not too much that it leaks out as it cook.
Very easy to clean, quick and efficient. I would highly recommend it.
Easy to clean, generous capacity

Bad quality and service
For the first few tries it was perfect, exactly how the old ones used to cook. Then the non-stick coating started to flake off. I couldn't find my receipt so couldn't get a refund (fair enough). However I contacted Breville and told the rep I thought they should know about it as ingestion of this coating is harmful, and if others were reported there may be a batch of faulty units. He said if there was a problem they would know. As a "one off good will gesture" he offered a new one at cost price. I would have thought a company as popular as Brev...Read more
