As much use as an ashtray on a motorbike
Dell inspiron. I paid 649$ for what has turned out to be not only the most I have paid for a computer, and the worst quality.
Under no circumstances buy this unit if you rely on a laptop a lot for work and or study.
It's not a unit that you can rely on even for the most basic functions, emails, searches, and also a number of general random malfunctions.
Not happy at all with it, I have returned it to j.b. hifi, who have told me the best they can do is return it to Dell, will fix it with .new or RECONDITIONED??? Parts
Seriously bad service. For 200 less you get much better quality I recommend Lenovo. Pees peeps. Good luck in cyberspace

Hunk of Junk
Had this for 12 months bought @ around $850 down from around $1000. Seriously doubt it's anywhere near a $500 laptop let alone a $1000 laptop. Agonisingly slow with just about everything it does. Have 6 or 7 tabs open and hit 'close all' and it goes into a 60 second stall just trying to do that. Pretty sad that I spent that amount of money and now have to go buy another one just to handle what are pretty much everyday tasks. Prior to this I had a $1000 HP laptop for about 4 years which died and it just killed this piece of rubbish. Never again....Read more
Thanks for nothing Dell. *EDIT* Ok so just though I would add for clarity that when I bought the laptop it ran fine. The performance over the last 12 months has deteriorated drastically to where it is now. I'd also add the laptop is not used for gaming or any other tasks that would be considered outside of general use.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Think twice before buying
Laptop less than 15 months old. Easy use at home 2-3 times per week. Screen hinge broke!!! Separated Screen and case. Sent photos to dell. Initially told they would send a tech to repair then told they would not as out of warranty. Should be covered byAus Consumer Guarantee. Think twice before buying Dell. Looking at reviews it is a fairly common problem. So bad they have even written a policy to cover not repairing hinges. Feel totally let down.

Download sometime is very slow
My Dell Inspiron 15 5000 laptop computer download is very slow (about 70% time is slow) if compare with my 8 years old Dell Vostro desktop computer (about only 10% slow) both use the same internet provider, the other operation is reasonable ok, the help service from Dell's agent is quite good.

Worst laptop purchase decision I ever made
Two weeks into purchasing the computer afobe flash player is no longer working. This came free with the computer. Tried updating and redownloading, all of a sudden this computer does not support flash player. Between Adobe. Dell and Geek Squad support noone can figure out why. Zip files are not working properly. Battery life is like 1 hr. Everytime I try to use any kind of software on this computer I run into an issue. I have not had success with not one software download. Paid

A Huge Disappointment
For the 4 years prior to purchasing this laptop (5567), I had been using an Inspiron 17R. Having been so thrilled with this machine (I had previously attempted to replace it with another machine that became a dust gatherer, it didn't compare), I decided on another Dell. Even though the machine was on sale, I still paid significantly more for this than my 17R. What I received was, I'll admit, was rather attractive looking, but that's where my praise runs dry.
The trackpad in enormous - it's larger than my fist. The trackpad buttons are integr...Read more
ated into the trackpad surface, and the algorithm that determines whether you are rolling, or clicking, is lacking. I would say 20-25% of my mouse-clicks are not detected (even though I can hear the "click", and while I am rolling around and clicking a lot, my screen is constantly expanding/shrinking/scrolling/rolling in random directions. I quite enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles on my computer, but it's impossible on the 5567. I was also off-put to discover that the trackpad feels dusty, a sensation that no amount of wiping, rubbing, or any other action, could remove. The keyboard, not wanting to be left out, does not always accurately transmit my keystrokes - every so often, perhaps 1 in 5 times, while I am entering and exiting screens to check figures, I'll hit alt+c or alt+s to exit (using the left alt button), and the exit command will be performed, but and additional "alt" press will be transmitted, triggering a call to the file menu. This means that when I press down to move to the next record, I'm actually opening the file menu. I have noticed similar behaviour in excel with the right ctrl button. The numeric keypad is not made up of full sized buttons, they are slightly smaller. As I do a lot of data entry and work with numbers a lot, this is a significant issue for me. While I am pleased that the have added a context menu button, I'm disappointed that there is still no light indicating whether Num Lock is active (again, I work with numbers). Even from day one, the performance of the operating system (W10) has been flaky at best. The laptop has been known to randomly fail to start, or turn off as soon as I log in. The unit does not hold a charge very well, and seems to consume power at a rate higher than it anticipates. I'll check the icon which will tell me I have 37 minutes left, only to have the machine shut down after 15-20. I have spent way more time arguing with Mcafee - software I never wanted - than I care to admit, and control panel crashes a lot when I ask it to do basic things, like adjust the mouse settings, or uninstall unwanted bloatware. If my 17R hadn't finally given up the ghost, this thing would be gathering dust with my other failed replacement, and as it is, I'm thinking of trying something else, this machine is just simply not built to be used with any enjoyment.Similar opinion? Efficient, Budget Gaming Laptop
Purchased for use personally as well as at university. In terms of personal use the laptop has been great. Excellent storage, but it is difficult to choose to store data on the HDD rather than the solid state. The hardware of the laptop is self-explanatory and functions well with the exception of the track-pad which can sometimes get stuck or become unresponsive requiring a restart. In terms of portability the laptop is large and heavy, but I purchased the laptop with full awareness and this is a rather obvious drawback of buying a gaming laptop. The battery life is excellent and can survive a full day provided minimal applications are used.

Really good
impressive quad-core performance. If it is with a ssd its performance is great. COmes with reasonable price and tablet-morphing abilities make it a compelling—and powerful—mid-range ultrabook.
The Dell Inspiron 15 5000 is an affordable 15-inch laptop with solid 8th Gen Core performance, but it's hindered by a horrible display and brief battery life

Just dont buy Dell
I bought an Inspiron 15 5000,,, paid top dollar,,, it had trouble from when I first turned it on...
After 2 weeks it refused to turn on,, 2 weeks later I'm still battling with Dell for warranty.
They admit over the phone they have a problem with this Laptop,, hence no replacement parts are available..
I have spoken to Dell in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, India, Sydney and Melbourne,,, but just get pushed off..
They dont have an answer

Returning for a different brand of laptop
Just purchased this laptop yesterday. Got it set up, and first thing, a pop up that it has an old version of Microsoft Windows10!! I tried to update it as suggested and it failed to update. A new computer should not have an old version of anything!!! I will not exchange this for another Dell inspiron 15 3000!! I will get a refund and buy a different brand, even if I have to pay more for it. Also very slow to respond when I was setting up to use. My desktop is about 9 years old and still very fast!!

Happy with this computer so far...
Just bought one of these and so far I can say that it is a little ripper. My son uses auto cad at work and has loaded it on. Runs beautifully. So far a great unit, love it!. I love the backlit keyboard and also the lack of weight, my old Acer weighed a ton.

Just crap
Locked down computer with terrible driver support. Cannot get Windows USB drivers to work. Good lick with WiFi.... Intel chip sets are probably to blame locking down the system. Very unhappy with this frustrating piece of crap. Regret having to get a dell. Overall performs poorly. Such a dodgy practice.

Really pleased
Upgraded for work, from a small slow laptop & am really happy with size.
Keyboard buttons perfect size, love the internal disc drive, card reader & usb ports (3 in total).
I did need to buy a usb hub as I needed more ports, no big deal, as for a basic user, the supplied 3 is usually enough.
Great size monitor & lighting.
Fast.

Really good laptop once you install an SSD.
I have had Dells for a while now and they seem to last 2-4 years on average, which is much more than the 12 months I would get out of HP laptops.
First thing you should do is install an SSD. This makes it boot up way faster and run a lot smoother.
Battery life is about 3-4 hours with the SSD installed. It would prob be 1-2 with the normal HD.
Backlit keyboard is awesome.

Very poor laptop
On paper this seemed like a very promising laptop to buy. After a couple weeks with it I’ve came to the conclusion that this is the slowest and nastiest computer I have ever bought. Don’t waste your money on this, it’s god awfully horrendous. It takes 5 minutes to load up one web page. And the gaming on here is damn trash. It cant function at a normal frame rate and it always stutters/freezes mid game. On top of it all, it will shut down and restart when I’m playing games on it. Please do a better job with this model, I’m not buying anything from this company ever again after experiencing how damn trash this piece of trash is.

This Laptop is slow, slow, slow. If you have a bad temper this rubbish is not for you
Bought this 3000 series Dell for 600 bucks with low expectations on performance and operation. Confirmed all my suspicions when I went to use Chrome to load basic streaming videos...ran at early 2000's laptop speeds....only really get this laptop if you want to to perform basic functions....prepare to be annoyed, fustrated and down-right angry at times.......

Very slow WIFi compared to LAN
This computer has all the specs and on paper should be a really great buy. I have had awful issues with the speed of wifi. I have fibreoptics with 250mbps in my home. All my other devices get the high speeds associated with this.
But the Dell computer can only achieve decent speeds if I have it connected via LAN cable direct to the router.
I had Dell change the wifi card. I have had them run diagnostics.
I had them replace the laptop with a new one!. Both laptops did exactly the same thing.
This model is a dud! Its wifi somehow conflicts w...Read more

It's good but not for me
Ok so I am a gamer and cannot survive without it thriving in my system. I bought this laptop last year intending it for school work & gaming. It runs all my school work smoothly and I cannot complain about it. But with gaming it's processor is terrible and lags all the time. On Fortnite I have to put it down to the lowest settings just to run it. I know it's not a gaming laptop but i should at least get a better frame rate and graphics. Considering I paid 650 for it should be getting a better job. I recommend this laptop for students.

Terrible!!! Awful!!!
I changed twice! First the computer presented a bitlocker bug. Second the Bluetooth doesn't work and also appeared a strange message always when turn it on. I tried to do a lot of things to correct the problems but DELL Inpiron 13 / 5000 series seems to be worst all the time. In short, the computer never worked.

My laptop Dell Inspirion 15 3000 is just 3 yrs old. Its been getting slower and slower ti fire up and now it won't start at all. According to my local IT person on testing suggests the motherboard is stuffed. Anyone else having the same trouble ??????. Brought from JB HI FI around $650. GORDON WA.

HI Gordon, did you create the Dell restore media? if not you could try booting from a bootable CD/USB and see if you can get it to work, the CD/USB media uses a minimal set of drivers to allow the laptop to operate... might give some clues as to what is going on, good luck....
