My two cup filter has stopped working, The one cup works, but the two cup just sits there and the pressure increases, no coffee. Any ideas?

Most likely the filter is clogged with tiny coffee particles. Have a look at the answer below using bicarb soda to clean it. Or you can get replacements on eBay (or from Delonghi, more expensive though)

My light for descaling stayed on too after we descaled it 3 times. Now it has stopped pouring coffee. It comes out in dribbles. I did the water hardness trick too but it still isn't working properly. Any ideas?

Hi Libpac, I must say I was a bit put off the Delonghi Dedica due to a number of reviewers mentioning issues with the descaling function. I had a Sunbeam Cafe Series that lasted ten years that I never once descaled!! As I have had the Dedica for a few weeks I can not advise you at all about the descaling other than read the instructions carefully (which you probably have done already). The only other thing I can remind you of is that the Dedica (and other machines) can be very fussy regarding overfilling, over tamping and too fine a grind. You probably are doing it right....but just in case...I have our grinder just a bit finer than the coarse setting...I fill the basket to the top with loose grind, level off and gently tamp down so that I have about 5mm of clear space in the basket from the top. In the first week I was putting too much and too fine a grind and tamped too hard. and it either would not come through at all or just dribbled. If in doubt...if you have accurate kitchen scales use 7 grams for the single cup and around 10 - 12 for the double.. The Dedica does not take much coffee! Hope that helps! let me know how you go...because I will probably hit the same problem too! Regards Bernard

It's not descaling. Orange steam light is descale.

Mine did the same, 3 months inside extended warranty. They replaced it with a new machine. Mine was nearly 3 years old and worked hard as we are coffee addicts. The manual says nothing about that error message.

Hi Mari
I'm sorry I do not have this machine, but have had a few different home manual machines. The frothing function on all of them is different. It is a matter of experimenting with different techniques until you come up with the one that froths the milk as you like it. The one I have now pumps too much air into the coffee too quick and creates big bubbles. I get around it by immersing the full length of the frother tube into the milk. This prevents the annoying large bubbles. (Cold milk will froth large bubbles, whereas when the milk is warmer, the bubbles are smaller). I hope this helps. Good luck!

I suggest reading the instructions with this machine carefully. They actually tell you what type of milk to use and exactly how to position the brother to achieve best results. It's not an exact science as there are many variables (milk fat content, milk temp, amount of milk in jug etc) but if you follow instructions and experiment a little you'll get great results for sure. I've had Gaggia, Miele etc and this works the best, really.

how many cups it will make using grounded coffee and what size cup it can accommodate?

This machine takes both grounds and pods. The grounds are put into a metal filter of two sizes usually referred to as single or double shot. You use the single-shot one for making a single regular cup, the double-shot when making two simultaneously (one under each spout) or a large mug. That's just how all manual espresso machines operate so I can be pretty confident with this answer without even having this machine (I am currently researching which model to get for myself - I've had a few espresso machines in the past).

According to the website it can take cups up to 12cm in height. I'm always disappointed by the lack of height offered by espresso machines as I like to use larger mugs.

We just bought the Dedica a few weeks ago and already the on/off button has permanently stuck in. Coffee is great but have to reset the water levels each time otherwise it only dribbles out about a couple of tablespoons even with the pods. Is there a way we can permantly set the water levels?

Hello, I just bought me Dedica machine in July 2016 which isn't too long ago and I don't use it everyday. I have definitely not reached 200 cups but the orange light has already lit up. Water in Malaysia isn't hard water. Could you advice on what I might need to do? Thank you.

Hmm that's not very long at all! Maybe try cleaning and see how it goes after that? I'd maybe check whether there's a problem perhaps, with the manufacturer

We use our machine twice every day & sent it in to the manufactures last year because the orange light was flashing even tho. we had descaled it.All they told us was to descale it again. We did it several times & the light still flashes so we ignore it & the machine works well otherwise. Makes great coffee . We descale after we have used it for every couple of months. Good luck..Merry M.

I get only a weak short lasting crema, which is hugely disappointing. Is there any way I can correct this by the way I set it up? Is it a fault with my unit? Is it a fault with the design?

Hmm, it could be a few things. If it's the machine, I'd try using a double cup as I like a stronger flavour. I never use the single shot for myself. It might also be the amount of coffee in the group and the fact it's nots pressed down properly, or maybe the beans aren't fresh or ground according to the machines needs. I'm using merlo beans and have them ground in the shop. They will ask what machine you're using and grind it for that machine. If none of the above, then maybe it should be taken back for a look, it could be faulty.

Thanks for this. I do use fresh beans (bought from a shop down the road that has excellent coffee). I make sure that the coffee is tamped down and is ground the level that the machine likes. I grind the beans myself and have experimented with grind levels. I also pour myself a double usually. We did take it back once because the steamer didnt work property (it leaked) and they replaced it, but the crema is an issue. I have seen the issue on the message boards a few times, but the review of the machine keeps on saying the crema is good. This is not the case for my unit though. I have tried it with a couple of types of bean also and it doesnt seem to make much difference to the thickness of the crema!

Maybe try tamping less as it struggles with hard tamped coffee grinds

I have just purchased this machine and it's ok aside from the milk frother - it's awful and bubbles the milk terribly before it's had a chance to come up to temperature. I had a Sunbeam Café Series machine for 5 years so I know how to froth milk; but the dedica steamer is all or nothing and makes such a mess. Any suggestions? Aside from 'insert wand just below surface of cold milk'..

Dear Smith, I have the same problem myself with the Dedica make sure you must till the milk steel container at 3 o'clock you must do this and no to drop the steel wand too deep into the container, do you use a metal large container ? but overall it is a bad design for under $300,the machine do not have any stability to place the porta filter you have to hold the unit and keep cleaning the mess on the side of the machine like we did I don't think there is much you can do. I have purchase a new Breville Duo -Tempo - Pro and it's a pro machine as they said came with a large steel milk container included plus a swivel steam band plus 4 filter baskets plus cleaning accessories plus 4 coffee filter baskets for different grind coffee plus more accessories it won't spill any milk and the cream on my coffee is unreal it make better coffee than you buy on any coffee shop and only cost us an extra $ 90.00 but what a machine Excellent real thick cream coffee all the time !!! and we hope it last more then 6 months than my baby Dedica last.
Good Luck

This is my 2nd machine ever, so I'm no expert. I do find that the milk froths better if I start with the wand all the way in near the bottom of the cup, and gently move the cup around and the want to different depths until the cup goes from 1/3 - to 1/4 full to full with froth. Also use low fat or fat free milk, that froth's much better. I hope that helps.
