Slow to heat milk, but the coffee tastes great.
Bought for $250 for Christmas and it's actually alright. The coffee tastes great, and we buy our packets from coles - so that says something.
One flaw is the steamer is a little slow, it would take me almost a full minute to heat the milk to 65 Degrees.
The only other flaw is you can't drink from regular sized mugs with this model. They just don't fit under the group handle.

Very happy with this coffee machine
After a lengthy personal debate of whether to go for the convenience of pods or the extra effort (and expense) required of an espresso machine, I decided to do neither, and stick to buying my barista-made double-shot flat whites. Then I saw this machine on special at Amazon, so decided to take a punt.
To be honest, the Dedica took me a little time to get used to. Initially I struggled to produce a good coffee consistently, however I can now say that I have mastered it.
The key is having the right size cups (170-180ml). For me, this ...Read more
is an absolute must if you are a flat white or latte drinker. Using these made the biggest difference. I also invested in a tamping mat, milk frothing jug and a metal tamper. On the negative side - the machine is fairly noisy when making the coffee. The final coffee is not quite as hot as I like it, despite my programming it to the hottest setting. There is no warning when the water tank is approaching empty, it just sounds louder (and slightly different) than when making coffee, so you have to keep an eye on the water level. The top of the machine is supposed to be a cup warmer, but takes too long to heat up so that doesn't really help. On the positive side - it is beautifully compact and does not take up much bench space. It does not take long to fill and tamp the coffee in the portafilter and pull the shot. While the last drops of coffee are falling into your cup, you can start frothing the milk. The frother works really well - but you have to turn the dial all the way or you just get flashing lights. After frothing milk, the machine is too hot to continue, so you can't make any further coffee unless you turn the machine back to the coffee setting, place a glass under the frother and turn the frother on again. This forces water through the thermoblock and cools the machine down, and also cleans out the milk frother pipe. You can make two cups at a time which is handy, but if you have a large crowd wanting coffee, you may be at the machine for a while. In fairness however it is a compact coffee maker, not a cafe-sized one. All in all I am very happy with it. I've tried various brands of ground coffee and coffee beans, and I can make decent flat whites quickly and easily, and now I can have one whenever I feel like it. So now i just need to invest in a knock bin...Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great compact machine
This is a great little machine. Has the ability to make good coffee from a variety of ground coffee I throw at it. Takes up very little counter space has easy operation makes piping hot coffee and the frother works well. Longevity is unknown at this time but it seems to be good value.

Minor details
The espresso maker is producing a great tasting shot.
Temp. level as well as shot volume are a bonus.
On the downside, the locking mechanism is unforgiven to extra coffee in the cup filter (will not allow you to lock into position). The pin hole at the bottom of the filter plugs easily. The cup tray stains and scratches in no time.

3 strikes out
We bought a delonghi that we returned because we did not like the feature of needing to stop the flow. We bought a dedica, loving the sleek design and great features. After about 3 weeks of great coffee it stopped working. We descaled it and it still did not work. Thinking we bought a lemon, we exchanged it for the same model. Again, about a month of great coffee and the descale light came on. We descaled it following directions exactly, no coffee. What a disappointment! We really wanted this to work but these coffee machines have serious design flaws and we are experienced cappuccino brewers. Not worth the money or hassle.

All you need in a coffee machine
have used it for over 9 months to make on 3-6 cups per day. The anti scale clean is a bit slow and inside the coffee cradle appears a little loose however Super happy with this machine.
If you want fantastc coffee you MUST also buy a "conical burr grinder" and learn how to consistantly tamp the ground coffee for Perfect results. (You dont need a Big expensive industrial machine for great results)

Can't imagine my morning without it!!
We are very happy about our purchase - Coffee from this coffee machine taste just great and it is very easy to use. Cleaning can take up to 3 - 4 min though. Overall great purchase and I would recommend this model to anyone who appreciate the taste of real coffee.

Not worth the money
I assumed for $450 I would be getting a decent machine after only owning ones from the $200 range however I am SO disappointed. Single shot basket is closer to a quarter shot, double shot basket is more of a single. You can't use different heads/handles, the milk frother is all of 5cm long so you cant use a jug any bigger than 300ml (forget temping more than one coffee worth of milk at a time) and finally it pours a 12-15 second shot even on a very fine grind (should be 26-30 seconds)
Awful machine and a waste of money if you actually enjoy coffee. Unless you're upgrading from nescafe instant, you'll be disappointed too.

You get what you pay for
Makes pretty decent coffee fairly quickly and the frother is quite good. If you live by yourself, this will model should suffice. Cleaning is also quite easy. My only gripe is that there should be an option for stronger coffee. Appart from that, I have been quite satisfied with Dedica.

Best gift ever!
Bought this as a gift for my partner who loves it. He is quite fussy about his coffee and now can make it just how he likes it at home - far more economical than buying at coffee each day, the machine pays for itself in no time. Its easy to use and clean. Comes with three diffferemt cup size options for the amount of coffee you want to use. Neat and stylish looking on our kitchen counter. Manual is easy to read and understand. Happy with the purchase and can recommend.

For the coffee lovers!
This gadget, though small, but it does it job if you know how to brew coffee and froth your milk. It does take one to have basic knowledge to prepare good coffees, however, with some trial and error you may find yourself grow addictive with this portable inexpensive machine of a device.

It’s compact and fun
Happy with the coffee, easy to use and easy to clean. However, the program seems has problems. After I hear the milk, I can never make another coffee, must restart the machine if I want to make another one . It’s not a huge issue, but annoying. I hope anyone can tell me why.

Great little machine
Super easy to use and does everything a big machine would do. Takes up little space on our bench top, we use it daily.
Only down side, it doesn’t fit a full sized mug under it. Other than that, it’s well used and loved in our house house of 6.

Great starting kit for coffee
A great starter for home made coffee. Couple it with a grinder and you'll be looking at a great ceremony on the weekends as you unwind.
I'd say the steamer isn't the hottest I've used, I've started to microwave the milk for a minute before use, but then I like super hot coffee.
I've had a couple of 'explosions' of coffee too where I've overfilled the filter bit with grindings, not put it on properly and then it's blown off... this is how we know the dog likes coffee.
Certainly on the smaller side of device though, so couples coffee only real...Read more

Surprisingly good.
I have a thing about the flimsy nature of so many domestic appliances. You can pay a lot of money for mediocrity. (the Breville Smart Scoop for example) So when my Bezzera BZ99S finally expired after 25 years of solid use, and the idea of spending $2500 on another one wasn't immediately appealing, I checked to see what was available domestically.
The Good Guys were advertising the Delonghi Dedica at about $200 less than other stores, so I went and had a look.
The first impression wasn't good. The machine on the shelf appeared to be e...Read more
xtremely light. I thought, 'here we go, another toy'. But for $249 I made a quick decision, fully expecting to return it the next day. Well imagine my surprise when (having performed the elaborate setup procedure). the machine worked like a dream. It's ready to go in about 1 minute (compared to 5 minutes for the Bezzera), produces hot coffee with a great crema, and amazingly strong steam for such a slim machine! And without the group head, it does water hot enough for tea. The only criticisms I have is that the shape of the group head doesn't fit under the doser of my Bezzera grinder. I'll need to work something out there. I'm not sure why domestic machines don't have standard group heads. And also the drip tray only really allows small cups. Maybe making the machine about 2 inches taller would solve that. But in conclusion I'd say Delonghi have done great work here, managing to produce an small machine with the performance of one 10 times the price. While freeing up enough bench space to buy a bigger toaster.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Coffee Machine.
Love the machine! Coffee tastes great! Machine looks great in its stainless steel with black inserts. Easy to use. Easy to clean. Goes with all other stainless steel appliances in the kitchen. Have always used Delonghi appliances & have never had any issues. Do recommend the product to anybody who wishes a coffee machine.

Great Little Coffee Machine!
We have had this for a couple of years and it's still going strong. While it takes some practice, you can make cafe quality coffee's with this machine and I'm talking about good coffee, not ash in hot water like you get at some cafes.
The machine is very easy to use and clean. It doesn't take up much bench space and I think it's great quality.
Con: It does struggle with some espresso grinds that we order from speciality roasters because they are too fine and the milk wand isn't the best but if I could go back in time I would repurchase this machine. I tried the Breville Barista Express at my sisters and the coffee was terrible in comparison to the DeLonghi Dedica.

Makes damn good coffee
I am not a coffee connoisseur my any means . Just need the fix twice some times 3 times a day to get me out my work desk at home. Decided to move to a better coffee maker from a pod coffee after year of pod coffee. This DeLonghi dedica purchased 3 days ago makes is exceptionally tastier coffee than my older pod coffee machine. It comes close to those coffees made with $3000 models in cafes run by baristas. Normally I like to grind my own beans which makes it fresher coffee with Brevlle coffee grinder. Its easy as a pod machine to operate. Fil...Read more
l the filter, make sure there's water in tank & press the button of cup choice. Boom! makes an excellent cup of expresso. Takes bit practice to perfect the steps without spilling ground coffee as you are tamping the filter. Slight complain or feedback, if there's a way to improve one feature, it is the process when emptying old coffee dust from the filter pan the filter gets removed into the bin. I haven't figured out an easier way to remove filter cup & remove old coffee grounds without dumping the filter into the bin. I have not used the milk frother as I do not use milk in my coffee however I will keep that option for my house guests who enjoy lattes. Highly recommend it for those who are concisous about counter space & ease of use.1 comment

Ok for the price
Makes pretty good coffee but the frother has this rubber sleeve that gets blocked with milk. The rubber sleeve on my machine doesn't stay on anymore and I can't use this function. Running the clean cycle can be difficult and I found that I had to run it a few times before the orange light would stop flashing. Not a bad machine, but I wouldn't buy another one.

Great little machine!
This is a great machine if you dont want a pod machine. We buy coffee ground from the coffee roasters.
You need to make sure you get your coffee ground to espresso style. If its too thick the machine drips coffee very slowly.
The milk wand is okay - but not in a great position and a bit more rotation would be great.
The water is easy to fill, and produces steam in about 45 seconds.
You get a coffee scoop included. Its okay design. Though you need to purchase a milk jug.
I like this machine because it compact and sits neatly on the bench.
I would recommend this machine. If you like a good coffee at home.

Does it have adjustable steam knob

I have no idea but doubt it. You would need to look at the product description. It has options for steam and to heat milk but thats all as far as I can see.

Hi Deane, Our Dedica has an on and off switch for steam but you can vary the way the steam nozzle froths so it can make thick textured cappuccino milk or hot flatter milk. This also acts as a hot water tap.
here is a link to the video showing how to use the steam so you can see how it works.

Hello, can you froth milk without heating it up? So have cold milk with froth?
1 answer
No. A jet of steam is what is used to froth the milk. You need heat to create steam.
Cold frothed milk would require a mixer to manually stir the milk - search 'milk frother' on Amazon.

How do I slow down the time to make a coffee to the cup I see from the internet the flow to the cup should be about 30-40 seconds but I cant get past 18seconds what can I do to extend the time

If your coffee was't designated as Espresso coffee, it might be too coarse of a grind and water would just run through it.
I don’t know the coffee I purchased says suitable for espresso machine, and I have tried (bought ground coffee); and( beans)as I have a good grinder.
It is like the delonghi dedica is set to 18 seconds and nothing I do can change this setting.
I like this small machine as I am the only person who drinks coffee in the house.
I would appreciate some help

hought it was calcium in the water even though I do not have heavy calcium in the water. I ran it throuh vinegar based water to clean out the pump. Nothing worked. I reached out to Delongi however no immediate response. I reached out to Amazon customer service. The unit was 30 days now their window of return is over. Talk about excelllent service, they allowed me to return the unit back to their centre. They asked me if I prefer to have replacment unit for the same price as the price has gone up. They even paid for the return shipping back to Melbourne. Few days later I got a new unit I gave it another go. Its been over 10 days & the unit appear to be working without issues unlike my prior unit. DeLonghi finally reached out to me asking me to take the unit to a electrical repair centre in the area. I feel this fair their service fails. Why would some one take a brand new unit to a repair centre? They should offer a brand new unit if the item fails with in 90 days. I am happy to do some over the phone trouble shooting steps just to ensure that I haven't missed a step or there are ways to unclog the pump or the drip mechanisim. Unfortunately their [DLlonghi] service protocal has left me bitter coffee taste in my mouth. Kudos to Amazon customer service. No wonder we have become a throw away soceity. Few companies have excellent customer service.
