Lovely, but flawed
I really liked the look of this kettle; quite stylish for the kitchen and the same colour as our food processor. (The DeLonghi Sherbet kettle matched the Breville Sherbet Food Whizz better than the new Breville Sherbet kettle we have!)
No complaints really except that it started rusting just inside the lid and on the kettle where it made contact with the lid within 2-3 weeks. I started cleaning it away with the intention of just living with it, but really, it wasn't good enough. We replaced it with a Smart Kettle and the one thing I miss is the freedom to boil a smaller amount of water; the Smart Kettle has a minimum of 500mL. Pity. The look was awesome.

Nice and pretty but Leaking
We have used well for about 1.5 years, but it was start leaking at the base.
one day we leave this onto our ceramic stove, and due to the leaking water our stove top was damaged and we paid to replace fuse box.
Now due to the newborn, we have to boil the water more often, i bought another one. (Can't afford wipe out the water all the time)

Love the kettle - hate the rust
I love this kettle, but it rusted inside in just 6 months. I was very careful to never leave water just sitting in there having read other reviews when I bought the kettle. I gambled that surely DeLonghi would've fixed this issue... Apparently not. Love the look of the kettle and it's not too loud.

Fantastic, love my Delonghi
After reading the reviews here, frankly I'd have to say a lot of them are either written by competitors or people just simply aren't using their kettle properly. I've had my kettle for six months with a busy family, on weekends its used almost every half hour and it gets a real workout morning and night during the week too.
I've never found it any noisier than any other kettle, it's fast, reliable and I love the stylish look of it. It boils water, that's all I expect it to do and it does it well. I love it and will buy another if this ever fails on me.

ABSOLUTE MESS !!
Loved the look of kettle as we had renovated our old kitchen and it suited our new one. At beginning I found kettle to be no problems as have purchased DeLonghi before. After reading other bad reviews of this item, yes I also found rust on the inside upper area and lid is tight but I just turned it back and forth a few times and it came off easily when I would clean out inside. It wasn't until the kettle was 5 months old that we noticed an adhesive substance leaking out of every join, crack etc, including kettle handle and especially the spout....Read more
It was an absolute mess and smelt terrible. The substance leaked from all edges of the spout so bad, that we couldn't clean or remove the staining it left behind to the main body. Over a few weeks, all the substance had leaked out of all edges of the spout and solidified into a disgusting mess. As Im left handed, I always have the spout facing away from me. So unfortunately I didn't realise that water was slowly dripping from the base of the spout on the outside of kettle. As all the adhesive had seeped out of the spout, water would leak out of the spout when it would boil or when I would pour the water, hence when I rested the kettle one day after pouring a drink, the water had already seeped into the kettle power base and the whole thing blew up. The kettle and the lid flew out of the base and the power point had melted and was smoking out, and I also received a decent electrical shock. Whether there was a bad batch with this Model, its no excuse, especially when I have a husband and teenage children who used it as well. Never, never again will I purchase DeLonghi,Similar opinion? Never missed a beat
I have no idea what these other people are on about! Purchased mine from the good guys March of last year and oh my goodness, I was surprised at how well it has done. At the time it was top of the line (and cost me a pretty penny) but I was really wanting a statement piece and the matching toaster and coffee maker sold it for me. All three have been working like a charm since that day and I wish I used the coffee maker more often as it makes the most delicious coffee but I am just more of a tea drinker.

Great Kettle !
I was in the hunt for a new kettle as our last one called it quits after 4-years. My better half wanted to pursue the DeLonghi Icona as it'd match the toaster we recently purchased, something having to do with matching appliances or something... Anyway, the DeLonghi Icona was high on the list by virtue of aesthetics although I must say I was very concerned in pursuing after reading the reviews posted on this website. In the end we 'bit the bullet' and made a leap of faith, and design, and made the purchase.
I'm pleased to say that after 4...Read more
-weeks of use the kettle has worked beautifully with no faults. The lid's removal was firm but easy, nothing like a review I read earlier. The bottom is fine and not rusting, it wasn't any noisier than our past Breville kettle, time to boil was reasonable, and I even like the narrow spout for pouring. The handle is nice and wide and comfortable to grip. I guess the only complaint, and I wouldn't rate it as a complaint... more like a comment, is that the water gauge is hard to read as it's quite slim and sits behind the handle so you've got to twist the kettle and jiggle it a bit to see the water mark. But that's it ! I'd recommend this and suggest you give it a go if you're in the market. Ours cost $99.00 and was purchased at a local Harvey Norman who price matched to JB-Hi Fi, which was out of stock. As I told The Wife, "If it doesn't work out to our liking we can always return it." Good luck !2 comments
G’day all. After 4+ years the kettle is performing well and still retains finish quality and boiling efforts. Still use it +/- 4 to 5 time’s daily w/ no complaints or concerns.

Rusted within a week.
My icona kettle was a birthday present this year (April 2014) i have returned it 3 times, each time because of rust Inside at the bottom. My latest started rusting within 1 week. It is now June 2014 and I have exchanged 3 of these kettles and i am very disappointed. Don't waste your time.

Short life span
I purchased my beautiful blue DeLonghi kettle along with a four slice toaster about 18 months ago and although I did find the lid very tight to remove was very happy with the looks and performance until about 2 mths ago when the kettle just wouldn't work any more. Considering how much I paid for this kettle I certainly would expect it to last a lot longer than that. I have had cheap kettles which have lasted 10 times longer so I now have a cheap0 kambrook and the blue kettle just sits there as a decorator piece.
Colour
Didn't last longer than 18 mths

Great kettle
I purchased this kettle nearly 3 years ago and it has worked perfectly, with no problems at all. Looks great, easy to use and clean. When I purchased it the lid was a little tight but I adjusted it and it has been fine. I also purchased the toaster also. I recommend them both.

After I purchased the kettle, I found the kettle lid to be very tight and required a lot of strength to remove lid.
I was told to fill it through the spout. If needed cleaning to bad the sales person said they were all the same, I agree with similar reviews

Lid is too tight Spout is too sharp Caused accident
After I purchased the kettle, I found the kettle lid to be very tight and required a lot of strength to close the lid. Although I found this inconvenient at the time, because it was just the lid and did not affect the functionality of the kettle, I did not pursue this matter. However last Friday, as I pushed down to close the lid, my hand slipped and landed on the spout of the kettle, causing a very large and deep gash. I was so scared because there was so much blood and I could not stop the bleeding for a long time.
I wouldn't recommend th...Read more

Very Bad quality and poorly made
We brought this kettle & matching toaster in red to brighten up the kitchen LOOKS great but after about 6 months the lid of the kettles silver ring broke off and inside the kettle itself discoloured. The lid is overly tight and does not remove easily. Other than that it did what its meant to do and boils water, I am looking for replacement so very disappointed with my $119 purchase
Looks Good
Expensive and Poorly made

It is a shame the base rusted out
Great kettle - nice to hold, fill and boil. However starting developing rust on the stainless steel base over the element within weeks. Based on previous reviews and call to Delonghi did not bother with exchange but took back to Myers for refund and now looking for another kettle. Delonghi did not state it was a known problem or subject to a recall.
Great looking (red colour), nice to hold
Rust developed inside on base

Can't beleive bad reviews
I cant beleive I almost was about to cancel this purchase because of bad reviews in this site.
The weight is realy ok and it works reasonably quiet considering it is a steel kettle.
The handle is really comfortable and the water level could be seen well when puring the water.
I also like that it is easy to clean, because drops of watter are not seen as on other stainless steell kettles.
For some people lid could be the issue, but as I am pouring watter without removing the lid it is not an issue for me.
Design, quiet, comfortable handle
Price, Lid opening not as easy as on other kettles

Taking my words back. After 3 weeks of purchase it has stopped switching off automatically. Returned the product back.
Nearly decided to give this a go. Then saw your adapted comment. Just have to keep looking. Where are all the reliable kettles?

Looks good, does the job well
We were looking for a kettle with no plastic in the boiler - and we couldn't find one. Plastic in boiling water over time doesn't sit well with me - I like herbal teas not plastic tea. This one comes close to no plastic but has 2 small grommets - rubber I think inside - everything else looks stainless steel. It looks good has a reasonable handle, that is balanced when you pick it up full, and what I think is a reasonable quality brand (however our first DeLonghi).
No plastic in the boiler. Looks good. Had it for a week now and is consisten...Read more

Most disappointing purchase!
Well my beautiful and stylish kettle lasted 16 months. It got rave reviews from visitors, it boiled water and the present it gave me on Christmas Day with a house full of guests was priceless! I had water leaking from the base and then the lever failed to work. I have had cheap kettles that lasted longer!
It looked great but that's all!
Didn't last, loud to boil, expensive and warranty inadequate for price.

Delonghi Icona
Bought first week of September, within 2 months it had boomed rusty inside base. Returned to shop had to stand my ground as manager didn't want to exchange or refund. Finally exchanged for a new on, now starting to notice same problem just under three weeks old. Am returning today for my full refund. Very disappointed.
had one previously design, perfomance

Rubbish, Poor design
Heavy (almost 1kg empty)
Handle is badly designed so that the kettle tends to tilt forward when you lift it.
Noisy, sounds like a jet taking off! (measured at 84dB at 1 Metre distance)
Handle hides the water level gauge.
Lid hard to remove and the spout is too small to use to fill the kettle.
The kettle design is badly flawed. Come on Delonghi get your act together and get some designers who just don't design for looks and try using their items before foisting them on the public.

What is the inside of kettle coated with. My kettle lasted three years and coating started flaking off

The inside of the kettle is not coated with anything, it’s stainless steel - which is the best material for cookware because it’s ‘non reactive’ meaning it doesn’t rust, corrode, or produce harmful chemicals or metallic flavours when heated.

HI Vicki, what you might be seeing is scale build up from hard water. You can descale the kettle to keep the stainless looking shiny and new.
I do mine every month or so because our water here tends to build up scale in the kettle pretty quickly.

Our pearl white DeLonghi kettle has had coffee spilt on it and it has stained the outside of the kettle. We have tried regular detergent but it doesn’t budge. We are scared to try anything harsher without advice. Any tips?

I’d try a paste made from bi carb and lemon juice. Add to stain, rub in gently and leave for an hour or so

Well, hello again.
I'm wanting to provide you with an update to what I posted 8-months ago so you all know how the kettle's been travelling with our day-to-day usage.... Read more
And the short answer is that it's been just fine. No issues whatsoever and has been boiling away, generally up to 3 or 4 times a day, and presenting with hot water for tea and coffee. I was in a spot wondering how best to clean the bottom mineral deposit build up and settled on boiling a cut up lemon. Much to my surprise it totally worked so no harsh chemicals were used and a couple of boils and rinses later it looks and acts brand new. Hope this follow up proves useful to you all. Best regards, billyjo.
