Do not buy this machine.
Coffee grinder lasted 6 cups then made terrible noise and stopped, never to grind again. Difficult to see cups under dispenser and no water gauge until red warning light flashes. Returned to The Good Guys no questions asked, replaced with Sunbeam.

Looks Good, however
Purchased this machine July,19- Paid $949-previously had two Breville coffee makers and thought would like a change-disappointed. Had it replaced shortly after purchase as it leaked water from the tank. Have spoken to a representative of the Company as I am finding it difficult to get the right amount of coffee in the filter holder. If I turn the ground coffee quantity dial down to absolute minimum it still spews out too much coffee. Also to get the right milk temperature when frothing it is necessary to turn the speed dial twice. For $949 I am disappointed with the unit-especially when it was strongly recommended by the sales person.

Don't buy one if you like coffee
- The machine looks good
- Impressed with its quietness
- Heats up very quickly
- You can only do one thing at a time ie: froth milk or pour the coffee.
- I have reservations how about how long the tamp will last. Doesn't feel strong. Need to tamp it 4, 5, 6 times
- Machine is messy and when you rinse the porta filter after each coffee, the tamp gets wet which then sticks to the coffee.
- No amount of combinations of grinder and volume gets the pressure needle into the ideal zone and coffee runs watery with no crema.
- Level of control over gr...Read more
ind and volume is poor. - Milk wand is either on or off with no control over velocity of steam and shuts off atomatically when it thinks it's right (which ends up being wrong) Restricted room at milk wand doesn't allow you to withdraw the milk as you shut the steam down so milk stays out of wand. - Overall this machine allows no interaction with the coffee process and the automation of the machine seems poorly calibrated.

Leaks Water
Machine was purchased just on 2 months ago
Just starting leaking water leaks from the tank in the back into front spill tray to the point it over flows spills out all over the bench another thing we noticed is the guage on the front for temp doesnt work
Does the machine make good coffee truthfully yes when its not flooding the kitchen bench if the temp guage on the front is only there for aesthetics and not actual functionality leave it out
As paying what we payed theres an expectation
Also delonghi the store which we bought it from
Binglee just told us theres a possibillty it will go in for repair
Well no the machine we expect replacement down to the age of the machine and its casual use

All Style, no substance
Some background ..as this is not my first rodeo in the world of 'Barista Style Home Coffee Machines'
Prior to my purchase of the Delonghi La Specialista 6 days ago I have previously owned 3 Breville coffee machines over a 10 year + period, with the most recent being the Breville Oracle, which started to crap out after 4 years of consistent daily use. I liked the the look of the Delonghi with the price and features very appealing. I read reviews and watched YouTube videos from Delonghi and your average user prior to purchase.
Unfortunately, d...Read more
espite my research, for me, this coffee machine is a big fail. Milk: It produces woefully inadequate milk, that is far from barista quality. As you can see from my video, the steam wand basically blasts the milk with copious amounts of steam to at times overflowing. I have varied the quantity of milk and the size of the jug, without success. The machine fails to create the vital whirlpool stage that is required for milk texturising - see here: https://www.perfectdailygrind.com/2018/02/barista-basics-texture-milk-14-steps/ This is the basics of a quality milk coffee, which Breville machines always manage to get right and where Delonghi appear to have no clue. There is no control over the time you wish to use the steam wand (it just stops) or the quantity of steam that blasts out. The flat and foam options on the wand are useless, with the foam option providing a luke warm watery thin end result. Fail.1 comment

leaking after 8 day
I purchased the machine on the 31/10/2019. That was 8 days ago and it is leaking into the tray. I would have thought Delonghi would have a better product than this. Not happy with the machine at all.

Water leaking every where
I have had this machine for a month now and it has just started leaking from the drip tray. The machine does make a nice coffee once you dial it in. However the problem of it randomly deciding to leak all over the bench is unacceptable for a 800 dollar machine. Buyer beware!

Very satisfied with the La Specialista
I was hesitant to purchase this machine La Specialista having read a few unfavorable reviews of leaking water and icon lights flashing. But with further research & reading a good number of positive responses and reviews, and upon an acquaintance's recommendation I decided to make this purchase. I'm so glad I did.
SO far after two weeks this machine is amazing; making wonderful flat whites three times a day has been an absolute delicious-delight. I enjoy using this machine every morning. It's a beauty. Love the design on my country kitchen ...Read more

Leaking water tank only 30 days after purchase.
Initially bought this in September and loved it. Made good coffee, had some issues with grinding but they were easily fixed. Enjoyed the machine with little issues until today.
This morning, after only 30 days of use, I walked into the kitchen to find that the machine had leaked the entire full water tank underneath the machine, onto the floor, and onto the power cable. Power board connecting the machine was flooded with water. Luckily I noticed the crackling from the power before stepping into the puddle of water on the floor, it could have b...Read more
een very dangerous. Cleaned everything up and refilled the tank. 40 mins later it has leaked all over the floor yet again. Will be returning this for a refund, very disappointed considering it was close to $800 AUD and we almost bought the Breville instead. Do not recommend this purchase at all. Update: after reading so many reviews with similar issues being mentioned we have returned the machine to The Good Guys who allowed us to exchange it for the similar Breville machine. If it were not for this terrible (not to mention dangerous) fault it would have been a good machine.1 comment

Leaks - Leaks - and more leeks
These leaking issues may need to be addressed. This is unfortunate - I was excited to purchase this due to the ease of use. However these reviews have since stopped that purchase. Unfortunate. This isn't a one-off issue. This is a major issue affecting many people apparently.

Randomly empties its water tank all over the bench
When it works, this machine makes a great coffee. The grinder is easy to use and mess-free. Unfortunately the machine seems to have a design flaw, which other reviews have mentioned.
It will occasionally empty the water tank into the drip tray, which then overflows all over the bench.
I contacted DeLonghi support who suggested the problem was caused by either not turning off the steam knob (Which I always do) or not turning the machine off at the main switch on the back (Which seemed strange, as what is the point of having a standby switch o...Read more
n the front). I have tried using the rear switch for the last few days and this morning it flooded the bench again. I am going to try emptying the drip tray after every use to see if that prevents the siphoning of water out of the tank. If that doesn't work then I am considering returning the machine for a refund as I consider that it has a major flaw, which would be a shame, because the machine makes a great coffee. DeLonghi did offer to have the machine sent to a repair centre, but then I would be without a coffee machine for a few weeks and I am not confident that they would actually fix it, since the customer service people don't seem to know that this is a problem with these machines. Judging by the other people here reporting the same issue I really think that DeLonghi needs to step up, own this issue. If they have fixed the problem or know how to fix the problem they should supply replacement machines that don't have the problem rather than asking people to send a brand new machine in for repair.1 comment

Poor Quality
Purchased a La Specialista machine in March and the pump went within the first 3 months - same problem as Paul Z had with water leaking in to drip tray when machine off. Took the machine to the service centre as instructed by Delonghi and it took 4 weeks to get fixed. Got it back and used it a few times then in August it had a different problem. I have again taken it back to the service centre and have no idea how long it will take this time. Not worth $875.00 and would not recommend.

So Disappointing!!!!
Bought the Delonghi La Specialista today. Made 2 coffees to test it, went to make the third coffee and the machines light is just flashing advising to fill the water tank. The tank is full and installed correctly. We have tried to re-set and clean, but unable to do anything as the same warning keeps flashing. This is highly unacceptable for a $800 coffee machine that hasn’t even lasted a day! Should of stuck with Breville

Professional barista pushed the machine to its limits and it surpassed our expectations!
The machine was easy to set up and there is just the right amount of variables to tweak to improve your coffee. Chances are that if you aren’t a coffee professional, coffee you make with that machine will be substantially better than with a professional, 10k$ setup.
I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to make great coffee at home without worrying about technique.

Questions & Answers
Luke D.asked
Hi. We have had the machine for about 8 weeks and all of a sudden the milk steamer hasn't been foaming the milk and is only steaming it. We have tried cleaning everything but no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Luke
1 answer
Cheryl B.DeLonghi
Hey Luke, Thanks for shouting out on this one. Is the steam wand attached properly. The rubber insert just pops on but for the metal surround to work it needs to be attached all the way up and then twist on without being able to pull it off without twisting. If this doesnt sit right the steam wont be able to get past the tiny hole that allows the milk to circulate inside the metal surround.
If you do a test without putting the jug of milk on the steam wand and just let the steam run, making sure the wand points into the drip tray so that you don't have hot steam pointing at you. This will help you see if there is a good stream of steam coming out. Its best to do this for a few seconds before and after steaming the milk. Let me know if this helps and please don't hesitate to ask more questions. Thank you
Sarah Gasked
I purchased this machine last week and have tried all levels of grind, tamping, different coffees and the pressure will not go into the optimal zone when making expresso, stops just before throughout the process. Please help.
1 answer
Cheryl B.DeLonghi
Hi Sarah, Does the coffee taste good. The optimal zone is more of a guide than a foolproof method for a perfect shot. If the coffee tastes good no need to worry about any changes. If the coffee isn't tasting so great and is pouring too fast for your liking make the dose a bit higher as this will affect the coffee pour and slow it down.
The optimal zone is reading the pressure from the push back of the water coming off the coffee grinds so the machine is still functioning with the correct pressure.
SByrnesasked
My coffee grinder has stopped grinding. Have trouble shooted....cleaned it all out and it doesnt seem to have fixed it.
Is this a common fault? My machine 3 months old
1 answer
Cheryl B.DeLonghi
HI SByrnes,
There are a couple of microswitches to check that will turn the grinder off if they are not in place. The tamp handle needs to be all the way back in resting position the dose dial needs to be off pre ground. You can also try resetting the machine after cleaning. Thats to turn the front off then the back then at the power point and leave off for one minute then turn back on exactly at the power point then the back of the machine than the front of the machine. If the top blade has not caught properly when the grinder collar was turning back around the grinder wont start so perhaps also make sure there are absolutely no grinds or beans stopping the top burr from sitting completely flush and turning around to lock in.
