Twice the vacuum, possibly. Picks up dog hair, in their dreams!
Having 'twice the vacuum of any other machine' one would think that this vacuum would pick up dog hair, but sadly it doesn't even look at it. Have had to pull it apart three times due to a blockage, and each time the blockage seemed to be in an area I couldn't reach without damaging the machine. The 'power head' is constantly getting 'knotted' with loose threads and fine objects, and heavier objects can be heard somewhere in the line but not in the collection bucket. There has got to be something better, but for just over $700, you would think this would do as advertised.

I wish i bought another brand
As it state's animal, well very wrong. I have polished floors with 3 area rugs and with 2 long haired shepherd's
The suction is great it just wont pick up the fur its backwards and forwards at least a half dozen times and at times i have to pluck the fur from the rugs they are 2 wool short pile and 1 medium nylon pile. When you put it back to upright position it keeps falling back and when that happens the head wont suck only the wand works so you have to put it in the upright position then down position untill a flap at the power head close...Read more

Trusty old Dyson !
I am a big Dyson fan and this vacuum cleaner doesn't disappoint. The suction is fantastic and it does a SUPER job with pet hair. In my opinion, it is not as sturdy as my old Dyson upright, a little more "plastic" than my old one. Make sure it is "clicked" into the upright position when standing upright.
Can't wait for Dyson to release a robot vacuum !

Not up to old Dyson standard
After 1 week of use am very dissapointed with machine, our old DC08 was far superior when new.
This unit leaves massive streaks in carpet and is very heavy and difficult to manoeuvre, the barrel clips are very small and seem to be very fragile, also barrel is very hard to empty and reclose without getting fine dust every where.
The extension wand is very difficult to use as it constantly collapses back on itself.
The suction seems almost too powerful for normal carpet making it hard to drag and push.

Amazing design, works really well, very powerful vacuum cleaner.
We bought this vacuum cleaner when we lived in a house with old wool carpets that our old vacuum cleaner couldn't clean properly and would have balls of fluff left all over it. We did wonder if it was overkill being termed 'Animal' for getting animal hair out of carpets, but I don't think there's such a thing with a vacuum cleaner! (Unless you've got carpet tiles, in which case too strong a vacuum will lift them up.)

ite plus and goes a long way towards making it easy to access tight spots. The only issues we've had with it has been a peg being sucked inside the detachable pipe, but that was resolved easily as you can take it apart, and the red clip that holds the head on broke, but a bit of tape has held it together.Similar opinion? Was great for 9 months...
Owned many high quality vacuums. Decided to get a Dyson as I'd heard it was great for dog hair. It is ! I was delighted with the power. Then a few weeks ago it started to 'stick' and was difficult to push where before it was effortless. Did some research and narrowed it down to a wheel under the brush head. Contacted Dyson and was told the entire brushhead had to be replaced for this little wheel that is apparently attached to a motor that drives the brush. Nothing looks wrong with this wheel but it is difficult to move it. My Dyson is not even...Read more
1 year old, and although the representative I spoke to at Dyson agreed to send out a replacement free of charge, she warned me that they would only do it one time. She stated that this wheel that drives the belt is a 'wear and tear' item and will not be covered under my 5 yr warranty. I have several questions, 1. Why is this wheel exposed? If it's driving the brushhead motor what purpose does it serve to have it exposed to all the dirt etc ? 2. According to my research Dyson have had complaints on this same issue with multiple models over the years, yet they don't change it. Why not? And finally 3. I paid over $500 for this vacuum it should last longer than 9 months. What's the use of a 5 year warranty when it won't cover a problem they know to exist? I guess I'll take my one time replacement brushhead and use it till it starts sticking again. But unless they fix this issue I would likely not purchase another Dyson. It's a pity because I really loved this vacuum until now.1 comment

Fantastic!
First ever DYSON and I love it. I have a cat and dog in the house and it gets all the hair. Recommend to everyone. Wish I bought it years ago. Its a bit heavy but that means quality to me. The Suction is absolutely amazing best I've ever seen

Very dissatisfied
My previous Dyson was a very good vacuum cleaner and I was very satisfied with it. When the motor blew after a few years, it burnt a small patch on my new carpet but I coped with that as it had been a good product for many years.
I was so satisfied with Dyson, I purchased the DC65 less than two years ago
It is the worst product I have ever owned. Heavy and cumbersome, suction problems, difficult to empty, and difficult to pull apart when you are on the phone to the help line which I seem to be every week when I attempt to use it and there is no suction yet again.
Today's call has resulted in it being shipped back to the technicians.
I will never buy another Dyson product. For $599 I expect quality

Powerful, Easy to Use
This is the first vacuum I have purchased with a bigger price tag, I delayed my purchase for years as I just couldn't justify the cost ($598 + extra warranty @ $95 - from The Good Guys). But so far it has definitely been worth it.
It has picked up more dust than any vacuum I have had over the last several years (the only rival I've had that did a similar job was a cheapy 2200W from Kmart over 10yrs ago but died due to old age) and it seems to really clean the carpet all the way through the layers - I don't think I have emptied this much dus...Read more
t from previous vacuums before. Its fairly easy to assemble - though I did get confused a bit trying to attach the handle but after a few minutes I worked it out. We don't have pets but messy children, allergies and lots of dirt so felt this vacuum would be the best to clean our house and its more than I expected. It has an extension type pole to vacuum the stairs which sort of works but I find in our house its not great - this is probably only due to the fact our staircase has a bend in it and isn't just straight up, when you hit the bend the hose gets kinked so I find I have to do the lower 1/2 of the stairs from the bottom, and do the upper stairs from the top landing. It's around 8kgs in weight which can be heavy if you aren't used to it but its not horrible to carry up & down the stairs. If you aren't as strong, maybe go for the hand held model as it will be easier to carry around :). Its easy to empty and you need to wash out the filter every 3mths or sooner if you've been cleaning a particularly dusty room. Overall I am very happy with my purchase and can't really fault it. Only cons are the price is a little hefty (but totally worth it if you can save up or afford it) and it can be heavy to carry, other than those its a great vacuum :) .Similar opinion? I'm a convert: A little pricey but a very powerful vacuum cleaner
I paid just under $600 for this vacuum. So it was for me a substantial investment. I have had it now for around 2 weeks and I have to say that I'm really impressed with it. IT is very intelligently designed and easy to use. I am amazed at how much dust it picks up. My carpet is so soft after using it. It's the largest vacuum in this particular range so some might find it heavy but I manage alright. It's very easy to use and can be easily manoeuvred around. Unlike most uprights which can only be moved in a straight line, this Dyson allows you to move in any direction (be it a curved or straight path). Definitely worth considering

Dyson Animal Ball Vacuum Cleaner
This vacuum cleaner does work well with animal hair. The problem I have encountered is in emptying the cleaner. I have to dig my hands into the actual container to remove all the dirt. This should not happen with a vacuum cleaner that cost me $750.00 This should be an easy task but instead it is difficult and has to be done outside the home due to the dust flying all over the place. Surely Dyson can design something a little better ???

Hi Jenna,

I am sorry to hear you have to remove dust and debris from the bin with your hands. This is not to be expected. If debris is caught in the bin when emptying, I recommend giving the base of the bin a few taps on the floor before emptying. This will help dislodge most of the debris. For anything stubborn, the clear bin can easily be removed to allow easy access to clean with the brush of the included combination tool (as shown here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aM7QkgJJLiI). I hope this helps, however, if we can assist further, please email [email protected], and we will be happy to help. Best wishes, Shan Facebook.com/DysonThank you for your comment. I have read the "how to empty" but it is still messy. What does concern me is that there is this enormous ball and very little space permitted for the dirt.

Compact, powerful and efficient
Dyson has always made a good cleaner and this is no exception. Very powerful suction and lots of very handy accessories. Breaks down to small components for easy storage . The lack of bags is great as the suction remains constant until full. The dust disposal is well thought out and dumps cleanly into a garbage bag or bin. Cons: the turbo head is very noisy and the construction of switches looks flimsy but all in all a great cleaner even though it's not cheap

Good vacuum
It's a good vacuum, My mother bought one and it works well a bit heavy so you just hope you don't really have to lift it and avoid lifting it at all, Rolls nicely so it's not hard to push, using the hand held is a little bit difficult but besides that it's a good vacuum with great suction

Could be better.
I purchased this to replace a different Dyson model.
While I am happy with it's performance there are a couple of thing I would change.
Firstly the quality of the plastic of the handle/tube is not as sturdy as the earlier models and can feel a bit flimsy.
I would also find the opening of the barrel to empty not easy. Because of the curve dust tends to fly everywhere.
Be aware that if you have a very low pile carpet the roller head could stick. I couldn't move it over the carpet and realised that it is self adjusting and it was detecting my ...Read more

Great robust Machine
It's so smooth. I even wonder if it's even on and if it's even sucking. I am very happy how easily it glides on all surfaces and I don't have to bend my back to push and pull. So no back pain and anyone can vaccum the house. It's great feeling to have bought the pioneer in cleaning. Don't waste money anywhere go get a Dyson Animal.
This machine picks up all your hair no matter which surface it is. I wouldn't recommend the multi floor. That model can't pickup hair like the Animal Model. So don't try to save few bucks and get the right one. You would need this one atleast and nothing else.

Love my Dyson.
I purchased this vacuum after my Dyson died after 20 years. I was a little disappointed that there was not much choice in the upright vacuums but have found this vac to be wonderful. It is easy to use and has great suction. My only issue with the vacuum is that is it very loud however aren't most vacuums. I would recommend this product to everyone.

Sucks Hard but Too Heavy
It really delivers in terms of performance. It sucks everything from my rugs, I have two long haired cats and this works a treat. But it's so heavy. Clunking it up the stairs is a nightmare. I have to buy a separate vacuum just to clean the stairs and up the stairs so I don't have to carry it.
Also needs a slightly longer cord. Feels like it doesn't go very far. Keep needing to unplug it and plug it back in somewhere closer to where I am vacuuming.

Strong suction but...
I've bought this product awhile back and I have to say that I was quite happy with its performance/suction, the suction is very strong but nosy. It is easy to use but very nosy. It is quite large in size, so it was hard to store away.
If I was to buy another vacuum, I would prob try another brand, the downfall was how expensive it is.

Questions & Answers
Sharon Dasked
why does the DC 65 leave brush marks on carpet
3 answers
Inevitably due to the rotating brush doing its job. Also remember there is the drive section on the brush bar so therefore a gap/section on the carpet will be missed on each pass.
Remember to clean the hair/fur from the brush bar periodically!
There isn't a drive setting on my brush head, I noticed that slide switch on u tube. My machine is brand new
Dyson Team ..Dyson
Hi Sharon,
Thank you for your question.
As Jayden mentioned above due to the rotating brush and the drive motor on the head there will be a line left.
Please avoid keeping the machine in the same place with the brush running for periods of time as this will leave marks on the carpet due to the spinning brush.
If you'd like to further discuss please feel free to reach out to our helpline on 1800 239 766.

Hi, i'm not sure which one to purchase and advice. We have wood and short pile carpets and two domestic short hair cats. We already have a cylinder Dyson and a Dyson cordless stick but would like to purchase an upright as less stress on the back. Both retailing at $599 at the moment. Thanks in advance.

DC65 Animal Upright ideal. I have same except a dog. Works perfect
Thank you :)
Just keep in mind that if you need to use the hose, it will definitely be a task. As the hose will be stiff and the upright will fall over as you use it and pull the hose around. So if your OK with that then by all means. It does pick up animal hair well because of the brush bar.
