Claim made Easy
Have been with GIO for 3 years. Lady drive into my rear causing significant damage that wasnt very visible from the outside. Person who hit me didnt answer calls, so i left all the info of the driver with GIO to chase up. I didnt have to pay an access. I made a NO Fault Claim. I chose my own repairer, claim was processed with ease. Then my repairer found more damage and GIO approved further repairs without any issues. Was also given a hire car for the 6 weeks that i had no car.
Fantastic service. Thank you GIO

GIO Car Insurance..Excellent Service.
I recently had reason to deal with GIO and their help and service has been excellent in every way. Very happy.
Much easier to deal with than RACV.

Great Service!
I've been dealing with GIO for many years now and they have been a pleasure. Super easy to understand, up front about all conditions and didn't waste my time with extra steps and paperwork for "proof". Thought I would try Budget Direct...cancelled this policy and went straight back to GIO!

Our business car with full comprehensive cover was involved in an accident and written off. Even though the other driver was 100% at fault, we now find ourselves thousands of dollars out of pocket. Our premium increased from $2400- to $3400- per year. We were not entitled to a refund on our old policy (we were forced to take out a new policy) a loss of another $1000- we were also gouged with other fees as it was a business car and also not entitled to a refund of our registration. One of the excuses for the $1000- increase to our premium was th...Read more
at drivers of Ford Mondeos (our new car) have more accidents than those that drive Ford Falcons (our old car) Dealing with GIO has also been extremely frustrating, given that our business is totally reliant on our car we had hoped that they would try and have our car assessed quickly, it took them 8 business days, all the while we were in the dark, not knowing if our car could be repaired or we needed to buy another car. They were so slow and frustrating to deal with we had to take the risk and buy another car before our car was assessed to ensure that we could keep our business running. We have been with GIO for 7 years and have 3 policies with them. Time to change.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

DO NOT USE THEIR REPAIRERS WHEN YOU ARE NOT AT FAULT
If you are involved in an accident with a GIO insured driver, and you are not at fault, and you have your own insurance, I STRONGLY recommend you use your own insurance company rather than dealing with GIO. I was rear ended by one of their drivers and foolishly allowed GIO to take over repairs. They claimed the car was a write off and reported it as such to RMS so that I was unable to take the car back to make my own repairs. The market value assessment I received was pitiful. They initially assessed my car as having a market value of $3,7...Read more
00 - but admitted the salvage value was $1,700. Go figure. To add insult to injury, they made me get a replacement registration certificate because I had left the car registration certificate in the glove box and they refused to get the registration certificate from their holding yard. As God as my witness, I will NEVER insure ANYTHING with GIO for the rest of my life. If you hold a comprehensive motor policy with GIO and your car is not relatively new and is insured for market value, think very carefully about whether it is really worth your while. If their market value assessment of my car is anything to go by, you are probably better off just getting a third party policy and putting the difference in premium into your bank account. PS - Another thing: GIO will NEVER put anything in writing when they deal with you other than to say that they have tried to contact you and could you ring them. Make sure you take file notes of, or record any conversation you have with their assessor or claims staff.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

charging more than is should be, good customer service when you buy, but ignoring you cancel
If you call and press on the options to buy a policy they will connect you to a customer service immediately, but when you call for the claim or cancelling it will take a long time.
I paid for my insurance $231 a month, after 4 days of the payment I sold my car and asked to be refunded, they only paid me $150 back...rip off, took $81 for 4 days in the name of government charges and other fees.

Be very careful...read fine print
If someone hits your car and takes off but you can provide rego, make, model and have video footage...you still have to pay excess. Disgraceful. Police advised that GIO can chase up owner of vehicle but they refuse to do so. Why do I have insurance again..????

Do not use their repairers, especially if you are not at fault!
The worst. The absolute worst.
My car was not at fault. The at fault drivers insurance company was GIO who offered their repairer to fix my car.
I dropped my car into their repairer. It was returned to me but had not had the repairs completed. They only completed the most obvious rear bumper repair (they went with the cheapest option possible). I am now having to return my car to their repairer again. My two emails to GIO went unanswered. The GIO consultant was most unhelpful.
If i want a hire car whilst my repairs are being completed, i will need to sit on the phone on hold for another 10 minutes.
Do not use GIO or their repairers, especially if you are not at fault.

DON'T TRUST
The best decision I made this year was closing my account with this insurance company.
When renewal time comes around they always put up the fees so I checked GIO website to get a quote, the price was not much better, even as a new customer however when I change the address to my neighbour’s house the price decreased substantially, so their system must still recognise that your their current customer hence why price does not decrease by much when entering your address. You would think that GIO would try doing everything to keep their loyal cu...Read more

WORST experience ever
Worst experience ever. I was with GIO for a few months and some one drove into my car when it was parked. It took months to process the claim and finally over the repairs were done, they refused to pay the repairer the invoice money so i had no rental car (which was part of the policy and they refused to extend it) and my car was also not released. I am currently with out any car.

The government CTP green slip overhaul has done nothing to curb the greed of these insurance compani
Received my quote to renew my CTP green slip with GIO. $40 more expensive than last year. I also received the government rebate of $100 last year. So in fact this quote was $140 more expensive. Furthermore they had also dropped the 'driver at fault' cover! I called to question why so pricey. The usual spin....you have an older car (of course - one year older from last year), your suburb has grown (nope), your demerit points have increased (nope), you have moved (nope) etc. Practically no changes in circumstances the only thing that had changed ...Read more
was the government reform on CTP green slips that is (? was) suppose to reduce the cost! This company is a joke, GIO does not care about customers or loyalty the only thing they care about is their profit. Case in point they tried to sell me comprehensive car insurance as I would get a discount on my CTP green slip! The reality is I can save upwards of $300 or more if I go with their competitors. My advice is to shop around, these companies do not deserve your loyalty (or your hard earned money!!!).Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Poor service
Had been with gio for over 13 years. But had a bloke smash into the rear of my car and rode it off. My claim was rejected because the other driver had insurance on my 3rd party claim. Never get this type of insurance. I would have thought gio would have helped me out after being along time customer and paid claim and took it up with his insurer but no no help at all.

No longer using GIO CTP
Update on review done 5 Oct 2015.
In my 5 Oct 2015, thought GIO had a very good CTP policy mainly due to its added Driver At Fault Cover. There was a balance between cost and benefits. When getting a quote recently for a renewal, found out that GIO no longer offer its Driver At Fault Cover. Now only 2 of the 6 CTP providers provide it. Sad to say, I did not use GIO for a new policy and went with NRMA instead. Not only do they still offer its Driver At Fault Cover, the premium was also the cheapest in my case, as I am a NRMA member, Club Care...Read more
(member benefits, NO roadside assistance.) (I have, however, now learned my $35 for 12 months Club Care has been replaced by a $60 for 12 months Blue Care. Don't know what extra benefits I am suppose to get, as I currently use only use 2 of the benefits. This forced change from my "cheap" $35 Club Care to the "expensive" $60 Blue Care is now giving me the blues.)Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

WORST claims procedure
My car was stolen it and it took almost 4 months for GIO to pay out my claim, i spent over $5,000 for car hire waiting for my claim to processed. Someone else's DNA was found in my stolen car but GIO would still not pay out my claim, after lodging a formal complaint finally it was paid out 4 days later... I had insurance to protect myself against something like this, they failed BIG TIME.

Never consider Gio insurance
Have had car insurance with Gio for more than 20 years. Gio deemed the car a write off without the owner discussing the repercussions
it was uneconomical to fix by a few hundred dollars for Gio only. One quote only their preferred repairer and then an assessor guesses what the mechanical repairs will be and sends paperwork to WORV within a day. By law it’s 7 days. They took their time to assess the car one week to get towed another week to see the car . But a day to get the form to WORV. A car is not their property . We get an independent quote and the car comes in at $1200 less than the car is valued at . But it’s already at WORV. A small accident and an 8 week battle with Gio and still have no car.

My car was stolen and GIO were very good
When my car was stolen and then found by the police absolutely trashed GIO took excellent care of it. They took it to the most excellent crash repair, who fixed up the car so beautifully, the paint work was higher quality than at purchase. I had a good quality replace ment car for the whole 3 month period that it took. There were a few issues, it took ages for if to be assessed and I had to keep on calling them to extend my release every two weeks a few days before the next dead line was up so that i didn't have to take the car up to be renewed, this part was a hassle, and having to retell my hole saga, and deal with some less than helpful phone staff every 2 weeks was a pain, and not very professional.

GIO, rude, obnoxious, unprofessional - waste of money, avoid!
Avoid at all costs. The most unprofessional company I've ever had the 'privilege' of dealing with. Their customer service representative literally yelled at me on the phone when I tried to use a service I've been paying for, years on end. Unbelievable. Stick with credible, professional and competent insurance companies like the NRMA.

Car insurance quotes vary wildly from house to house
After inadvertently entering the wrong street number into an online quote for comprehensive car insurance I realised that my neighbour can get a quote $170 cheaper than me for the same car with the same details. I don't know about my neighbours claims history but I have not made a claim for car insurance. Clearly, there are other factors at play here that do not relate to the car or the driver. GIO's justification for pricing car insurance based on individual houses is spurious at best and a rort at worst. I might have understood the higher pri...Read more
ce had I actually made a claim. Sounds like it is a case of how much they think the customer can afford to pay rather than any perception of value. I would suggest that others use their online quoting to see how much the quotes can vary.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
