Hi Snap, the Hansa C7 is fitted with a Honda GX200 6.5hp engine. The chipper is equipped with a very heavy fly wheel which holds momentum and inertia, and adds to the power of the cutting action.

how do you replace the belts - it looks like a major job?

I have not had to do this yet, however I do know you need to remove/move the engine. This may seem like a major task, but it actually looks pretty easy. Once I get to that I intend on making a video and putting it up on YouTube.

I've found it easy to do with my machine. It's an older design which has the clutch lever (I believe the newer ones use a jack screw). Remove the two bolts holding the belt guard. Remove the four bolts holding the engine to the engine mount and move the engine out of the way. Then the belts can be pulled off the bottom pulley. It's the reverse procedure to put belts back on.
Tips: Marking the position of the engine on the mount before undoing anything so you can get it back to the same position. Once everything is back together, use a paint pen to mark the orientation of the nut/bolt head in relation to what it's securing so it's easy to see if they're coming loose - I've never had this problem, but I see it as cheap insurance (just like grease, oil and filters).

Hi there. I am trying to find the best mulched to make compost out of the waste from a huge vegie Garden. It has to be able to handle long corn stalks with roots, brassica and silverbeet plants with big roots in high numbers. This material is quiet wide in diameter and also stringy. Is the Hansa C7 ideal for this job?

Hi Tim, I would have no problem feeding all of that and more into my Hansa C7. As long as it is no wider than the chute (about 70mm) then shove it in and chomp it up.

If the material is too stringy I find it can clog the machine, however if you simply feed it slower and less in each bundle then it shouldn't be an issue.

Good Luck :)

Will it do loose leaves, and coarsely chipped mulch?

Hi Michael K. Firstly, can I say that after 8 months of using the Hansa C7 I'm still very impressed in all respects with it. I have mulched leaves in it but it needs woody material to help feed the leaves through. Remember this machine is a 'chipper' mulcher not a 'shredder'. The mulch it produces is course not fine. Sometimes when mulching gum tree branches some of the gum leaves come out in one piece but the branch and twigs get mulched. If you are wanting fine mulch for your garden you might need to keep looking for a different machine. If you are after a chipper that starts easy and eats through large branches (up to 60mm) and produces course garden mulch then you won't be disappointed with the C7. I hope this helps.

Hi Michael, as Deedub correctly described, the Hansa C7 will process loose leaves, but the output will be irregular. Some leaves will be finely mulched, but others may pass through untouched. Please feel free to contact us here, or direct if you have any other queries.

As far as I'm concerned belts are an consumable iteam, I get my belts from car places like Bursons, I'm on our 3rd set, one per year for us.

I've had to replace the belts only once in two years of fairly regular workload, and I think they wore out because I had overtightened the tension. In any cae, I agree with the other submitter - they are are designed to be serviceable items, and replacing 'em from time to time is expected rather than a design flaw.

You want the Gates 6823 Powerated belt. It's 2-sided kevlar v-belt, 23" x 1/2". There are two of these in the machine and I recommend replacing them at the same time.

What size diameter and length branch will the C7 chip comfortably? Green or dry? Can it do 70mm branches all day long or will it stall out on say a 3m branch? If so can you stop a 3m branch half way and let the rpm recover before continuing? Thanks you.

When I'm using the C7 I have varied diameters to chip, I use mostly green, but I'm unable to answer your testing question with the accuracy you are asking for, I use the C7 heavily on our property for domestic use, and it doesn't disappoint.

Depends. Softer green wood is easily handled at 7cm without stopping, older dry hardwood takes a bit more time, and you may have to "feed" a 3m long branch a bit at a time to keep the rpm's up.

I've gently fed in 10cm branches, and the chipper will handle it. In that sense, you're doing what the hydraulic rollers do on the huge tree-chomping chippiers :)

Has anyone used it for shredding leaves? We have huge quantities of gum leaves to deal with.

My Hansa will basically spit wet leaves out untouched... at best it will bust them in half. It will obliterate dry leaves though

regarding the Hansa C7 does it have any problems dealing with fresh green stuff as opposed to branches?

No problems with leafy greens, although *very* watery weeds can occasionally form a gooey mush which needs to be scrapped out from the outlet shoot. I now just let these sit a few days prior to shredding.

No problems with sloshy stuff. We were operating for over an hour in moderate rain, shredding a mixture of fully grown yuccas and wet hedge clippings. Water started streaming back down the outside of the chute but the machine never blinked. With heavy stuff you may have to control the feed in rate so that the disc keeps the momentum it needs to chop the wood.
