Hello Craig, Bought a 3.5kW sine wave generator from Trade Tools Direct in Brisbane for under $1000. It pushes out 15 Amps of current, which is as much as you can get from a Caravan Park. Can run everything in the van at once! Cheers, John

new jayco journey 17.55.9 single bed model, very happy with it, but has anyone come up with a modification to access the centre robe whilst the roof is in the down position ?

I replaced the fixed hinge pins on the roof mount with 6mm lynch pins, when you want to access the robe pull out the pins and lift the mechanism up above door height and open door, after accessing close robe door and reinstall lynch pins ready to lift roof at next campsite.

Interested in hearing how travellers pack their Jayco Journey. Wondering how much weight the top cupboards above the dining table will tolerate. ie; for canned food etc. Don't want to over do it.

We generally put all that stuff in the cupboard under the sink and put the lightweight crockery, tea, coffee in the top cabinets. Bearing in mind we have a pop top so overheads aren't very big.

Has anyone experienced the lights flashing while not connected to car....making a clicking sound at front left side. Only way to stop lights flashing was to disconnect the battery in the van. Havent even used it, it is a Jayco Journey 17.5 poptop.

Anyone can help?

I am not a specialist here. I can only give info with respect to our Jayco Journey. As you probably know, interior fit-outs do differ. On our Jayco, the Solar wiring enters from the front right top corner, passes down into (inside) the rhs wardrobe to almost floor level, where it combines with other wiring and runs aft to the Solar Controller, returns through the same rhs floor level wiring tunnel to the wardrobe lower storage, around by the water pump under the bed and connects to the Batteries. In our wardrobe a terminal block is fitted where a cable join is installed. By the way, our solar wiring detached from the panel terminals due to pliers being used to crimp the cable instead of the proper crimping tool.Hope this helps.

Hi Thommo if you dont necessarily need green then Bunnings have a pressure pack called Machinery Grey which I have used with great effect on my previous van ( Halls Jayco Mildura use it )- maybe there is a green available unless you are trying to match something Chooka Mildura

Journey OB roof issues.
Has anyone with the OB Journey experienced pooling of water on their poptop roof during heavy rain?
We have had the van at Aireys inlet Caravan Park for the last 6 weeks, coming down on the weekends. Couldn't lift the roof and after rechecking I had released all of the clamps, got up on a ladder and the the roof looked like it had a swimming pool in it. Had to lower the front jockey wheel to let it pour off. Again last night, torrential rain and when it stopped this morning lifted the legs and lowered the jockey wheel and it poured off. Wondering is the aircon, etc. on the roof too heavy and is buckling or bowing roof.

Let me know if you have experienced the same thing.

Hi Brian, good points you raised. Our air conditioning unit is not on the roof. It is on the side of the van. In torrential rain we dont have the issue you experienced. Given the number of pop tops and vans with air conditioning units on their roof, sounds more like structural issue. Local service technician would give you an informed opinion. Cheers, John

My jayco journey 2014 has cracked around the bottom lip of the boot were the rubber is attached. How can this be repaired?

Hi Norm,
First of all, I'm no expert in caravan repairs, but I'm happpy to put in 2 cents worth. Have you tried a boat or caravan repair workshop? They should be able to repair the fibreglass and put a piece of reinforcement fibreglass on the inside of the crack & polish up the outside of the crack. Alternatively, you can buy fibreglass repair kits from Bunnings etc and do it yourself - it's very easy to do if you follow the instructions on the kit and could save you a fair bit.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Ed

Hi Norm, good suggestion from Mr Ed. it seems to be a design weakness in these models as my Journey has the same issue. It is obvious that the bottom lip of the boot will not take the normal useage associated with the boot. My Journey is due for service soon and intend on asking the service technician for their advice or even see if they will repair under warranty. Failing that will probably do a DIY as Mr Ed suggested. Cheers Yannaki

i put aluminum angle inside the bottom edge of boot with big size pop rivets, solved the problem, now i can lean on it when i get stuff out of the boot without it falling apart

Hi Robyn,
Our experience with Camperland has been very good. We had purchased a Jayco with a build date a year earlier and any items we asked them to fix, they replaced through warranty. Equally small issues when servicing the van were also replaced through warranty. If I had a criticism, it would be the length of time it takes between booking a van in for a service, normally three months. so need to bear that in mind. But the services seem thorough enough. Cheers John

Yannaki

Hi, in the Jayco Journey, once you lift the bed, there are 2 black straps connected to the underside of the bed. The straps are connected by two self tapping screws in each strap. These need to be removed before the bed will extend. Whether or not it is a similar system to the 2008 Jayco discovery I don't know. However either a Jayco service centre cannot help you or you can find Jayco technicians by Google search. Good luck Yannaki

How old is the van and was the roof up or down when the damage occurred?

Chook Fowler
Chook Fowler

holy mackerel, never heard of this happening before, assuming a pop;top the only thing I can think of is it was in the up position and you did not have the raising mechanism locked in position, or there was a mechanical failure with either end lifting systems, allowing the roof to be twisted. Also did you have the awning erected at the same time as this will put tremendous forces on the roof in high winds [we always pull awning in with strong winds about] . hope this may provide a possibility of what went wrong, regards Chooka

RobynB
RobynB

Nope! The roof was down and locked! The awning was rolled up. The winds were so strong I thought the van was going to roll! It was attached the vehicle. The only thing was the door was open! I was inside the van and it was pretty scarey!

The lid on the cook top has to be totally upright as it has a cut off switch in case the lid falls down - please check this & see if the lid is fully open. If it is maybe the cut off switch is "on" and stopping gas flow

Chook Fowler
Chook Fowler

if you have the new safety valve fitted to the cylinder then you have to press the knurled knob down 3 times (slowly) to set up system then bingo

I Have the same problem, checked lid is fully up, do not have a safety valve that I can find, where would I look for a safety switch as I can’t find one of those either? Gas tap under boot is on.Gas bottles are full. Instruction book does not talk about a valve or switch. Any advice would be appreciated. Band new Jayco Journey. Thanks

pick a reputable dealer who will give good followup service,:make sure u give the van a good first trip and photo any (all) problems u may find (mobile phone is great as I have videoed water running down an inside wall on our replacement van), read your manual to ensure you use the van within its stated capabilities especially conditions relating to offroaders.Look for problems with drawers as they are held together with wall plugs which are not designed for the work Jayco expect from them.Laminex edges around tables and bed areas have sharp edges which clothes catch on and may break. Our new replacement van has let water in thru the Dometic windows (or seals) and saturated the bedding and lounge area (even after the Dubbo agent claimed he had repaired the fault) Most of all if you buy a van ($$$$$$) then stick to your guns and ensure the manufacture upholds his part of the deal Hope I don't sound too pessimistic but its your money Ralph happy motoring

have had a discovery (2008) which had a water ingress problem which was easily solved then bought a new journey which after 4 months on the road ended up with 32 defectes from drawers falling apart (common fault) to a window falling out 1st time opened and very poor material material used in upholstery plus many more, then Jayco replaced van and just back from 4 month trip and major problem was water pouring into van thru windows after dealer in dubbo claimed he had repaired fault, had to sleep on floor to evade water.,material on seating disintegrating on corners, handbasin has numerous cracks in it, ensuite tap and base is corroding, wheel arch mouldings are coming adrift from body, deep cycle battery failed (replaced warranty), drawers still falling apart (used No More Nails to solve problem), thankfully this was not as distressing as last year and the van goes in for repairs tomorrow 24)8)16)

hi, I have no idea and as I said in my post I suspect I will also need to replace plastic things on the van as they all seem to be made of brittle plastic (must be expensive to make durable plastic). You say you are going to replace it so I would purchase a new one first and that will give you a clue as how it is fitted. good luck. cheers Jeff.

Journeys don't have tunnel boots so I don't know. It appears new van as you mention 1st svc. I would think they should fix or ask their svc department head as it may be a issue they have rectified before. Good luck .
