G’day guys, I have a 2017 Silverline outback. Can anyone tell me how do I isolate the air conditioning unit from the mains supply. The earth leakage switch keeps tripping and I’ve removed every other appliance from the 240v outlets. I’m assuming it’s the air conditioning unit that is causing the problem.

Sorry Steve unable to assist, sounds like sparky needed. For what it is worth, my previous van would trip switch easily if Waterheater [elec] was on same time as kettle and or toaster. Good luck Bob.

Cheers Bob, much appreciated I thought I isolated everything and then you mentioned hot water service

Nope that wasn’t it, still leaves the air conditioner. I don’t understand why it wouldn’t be plugged into a GP socket to allow for situations like this

I own a 2016 Silverline Outback and the kitchen tap spout comes out (and with it sprays mains pressure water). When re-inserted it remains locked in for a few uses and then blows out again. How can this be fixed.

Hi, we have a 2018 21ft with club lounge, we have had water issues, with the last one in behind the wall, and another water issue in behind the seat by the water tanks, just keep on at them to repair, seems to be silicone problems, they need to evaluate the structures of these caravans, sick of all our issues.....hope you have some luck.

Bob G.
Bob G.

Peter, attached is what I posted about water drainage issues 6 months ago after first trip in new 2022 21653 Silverline Outback. Waste water drainage poor, the design of same is worrying, the issue is masked for those that have a grey water tank. Simple but not inexpensive to rectify. I increased most of the drain pipes to 40mm and also fitted 40mm connections in several places at the rear end where most pipes flow into final outlet. Some changes to flow directions solved the problem. Bob

What are you doing about all the people complaining about cracked windows in the Silverline models
Also what about the drainage systems on these So many complaints
Some people are fortunate enough to be able to fix this problem themselves Others have to pay a plumber

Chrissie, your question seems to be for Jayco themselves. I am a Silverline owner too and had drainage problems which I corrected and Jayco paid those costs. I have not had window breakage. Have you fixed your drainage problem? Bob

How do I clean caravan roof

1 answer
Bob G.
Bob G.

It will depend on the materials used on the roof, so the cleaning product you use needs to be compatible with the materials, Ali or composite? Silicon will be used in and around joins and fitted roof parts so cleaner must be suited to it. Your Jayco manual will offer cleaning product advice based on roof materials used on your Van. A ladder will be necessary and safety must be a priority of course. I rinse off all roof surfaces well, then use a long handled brush/broom with bucket of appropriate mix of cleaning product avoiding the clear perspex hatches. I use a soft sponge on those after rinsing residual dirt/bird poo, sap etc away first. I do not pressure wash the roof.

I have a dometic fridge RMD 8555 and when connected to the car the fridge is not working correctly, the 12 volt flashes for a while then stops flashing but when I close the doors it starts again.
I have checked my car anderson plug and all good, check caravan fuses all good, cannot find a fuse in the fridge?? But if the fuse was blown then the 12 volt would not flash I assume.

Is it the relay??? or element or am I missing something???

I have done a video check out the link below

Hi, we have a jayco silverline 21.6ft. 2018 model. Our fridge goes from ceiling to floor. My question is when it rains there is water coming in from under the fridge. The awning is constantly out. It drips onto the wheel arch. There's not a lot but if you leave it without a cloth under it you can see it pooling up and running out of the cupboard. Has anyone else had this problem.. my husband has been up on roof and done some silicone treatment but still leaking.

Sorry unable to assist with the water leak issue, it could be coming from anywhere - roof seems likely. Take pictures and refer to selling Dealer or if away search for local Jayco Dealer. Warrants careful inspection.

How do you remove the fridge vent?

1 answer

On the left hand side you will see two securing lugs -one at the top side one at the bottom. Push them upwards, they are tight but will slide upwards. then ease out the left side towards front of van and the locating lug on the right side will come out of it,s slot.

When we empty our tanks and use water via a hose, the tanks seem to fill up and then overflow and flood the van. Is there and off switch we should be flicking so that the tanks do not fill?

4 answers
Bob G.
Bob G.

When you say use a hose, do you mean to fill the water tanks or to supply water to the van - mains pressure? If the latter then water should not be directed to the water tanks. If filling water tanks with the hose, then yes water will overflow at the tanks top overflow vent, but that should be external overflow not in the van.

Joan C
Joan C

Mains pressure to supply water to the van.

Bob G.
Bob G.

Sorry, I am unable to identify the problem. My understanding is water to Van [not tank] from mains will not fill the tanks at all. Where in the Van [inside] is the flooding?

I have just purchased a 2022 Silverline, what is the fix to improve waste water discharge rate. Most noticeable in shower

3 answers
Bob G.
Bob G.

Fletch, the problem is the design of the waste water system, it is completely wrong and I shared my findings with Jayco on first trip away. My shower base ponded up. To fix you need to change/redesign the system [I had to do that for my 2022 21.653 Silverline OB]. Many owners of new Jayco Vans have had same issue, some have rectified themselves and at their own cost. When I was on shake down trip at Lakes Entrance, the problem showed up,I inspected and found the problem, everything about the pipe size and routing of the water flow is wrong. Jayco said bring it back to MELB, I said no I have set up and am here for a week, they agreed to me getting a quote locally to resolve. I had my plumber increase pipe diameter to 40 mm from 25mm. and we rerouted so flow resistance eliminated. The only ones that would not realise the problem is those with a Grey water tank. Hop underneath the Van and you will see marrow black plastic tubing going up hill and with T junctions that are part of the problem.

Fletch
Fletch

Thank you, yes my van has the same black tubing, will look to see if I can also rerun with 40mm pipe.

Nelson
Nelson

You are right Bob. I had a 25' Heritage and changed the pipe size. Have a 25' Silverline and did the same thing using 40 mm pipe. I fitted a non return valve to the pipe so water from the washing machine couldn't be forced up the other pipes and have water coming out the shower tray. I also increased the size of the shower waste pipe. Also the size of the sink waste. All works well.

Have a 2018 Jayco Silverline 21.65-3 Outback which has very slow, low volume and pressure when connected to caravan park water supply.
If the pump is left on it is adequate but empties the tanks in preference to using the pressurised wayer supply.
Any ideas on quick fixes?

1 answer
Bob G.
Bob G.

Many Vans have a water pressure control valve to protect the system - it is a brass item bigger than a hose fitting, often near where yo connect the inlet hose, they have a mesh filter inside and they can become blocked. Simple to dismantle and clean. Good luck. Bob

Is Jayco replacing cracked windows on their vans at no costs to clients??
My van has travelled less than 4000klms and has 3 o/s cracked windows. Surely Jayco realises they have a component fault and should be pursuing their supplier for compensation . My van is as new, even though it is 5 yrs old!

On mine, the left-hand switch controls power to the Winegard wireless router on the roof. The right-hand switch I understand controls wind sensors that automatically retract the awning in windy conditions, but I believe that Jayco do not fit the sensors so this feature doesn't operate. The switches should have been labelled.

Hi, my gas oven does not heat up to more than 150c. Cooking pies or sausage rolls with pastry takes approx 2 hrs to cook and brown. Had to throw scones out last week, doughy after being cooked for 1.5 hrs and not even brown.
I bought a thermometer and placed it in the oven and it only heats 150c. The flame remains the same height during every use. The flame does not reduce at all, even though Manuel says it is supposed to, and still only reaches 150c
For the first year we cooked outside as we only did short trips. Now we are on the road permanently I require a reliable oven.
Any ideas as what may be the problem?

I understand that the Gas Regulators [between gas bottle and appliances] are prone to failure. It would be one possibility causing poor gas flow? There are some inferior quality ones available so if you were to replace get a better quality one. Of course there are safety issues when installing gas fittings so the rule book says you should use a licensed plumber/gas fitter.
